    At one point Jenny tells Forrest that he doesn't know what love is. I believe that SHE didn't know what love is because of her horrible childhood. She didn't believe she deserved Forrest and that is the reason she kept running away. Toni, don't ever apologize for or hide your emotions. It just shows how good of a heart you have.

    • @the98themperoroftheholybri33
      @the98themperoroftheholybri33 Рік тому +9

      Jenny doesn't know what love is, everyone in her youth who should've shown her love was abusive towards her, so she thought being abused was them showing love.
      It's a very twisted way of thinking which abused people suffer, you think it's normal growing up like that

      Jenny went through so much and having Forrest Jr is probably how she got her life together. She didn’t ask Forrest to marry her until she finally felt like she was WORTHY of him, which is so common for survivors of abuse. She was self destructive and in abusive relationships and it wasn’t until she learned to forgive herself that she finally let Forrest in. What always got me about Forrest as a character is with his innocence and pure heart, he loved Jenny so unconditionally was never angry or bitter. His love for Jenny really was unconditional.😭

    • @MegaForrestgump
      @MegaForrestgump Рік тому +2

      @@fangirlalliecat Exactly. Jenny was abused, that is implied. And throughout her life, she went from abusive relationship to abusive relationship. Forrest was her rock, although she didn't realize it until she had Forrest Jr. She needed to learn how to love someone before she could realize that she deserved that same type of love. I hate when people get mad at Jenny for running off. She had her demons to fight off.

  • @jmhaces
    @jmhaces Рік тому +72

    Jenny did love Forrest. It's just that since she suffered abuse as a child she kept dating abusive men and didn't think she deserved a good man like Forrest. That's why she told him that he didn't really want to marry her when he asked. She felt she wasn't good enough for Forrest. That's also why her only coping mechanism was running away, and she did it over and over again, not only from Forrest but from every other thing in her life, and it's also the advice she gave Forrest about what he should do whenever something bad happened, regardless of whether it was being chased by bullies or running into danger in Vietnam.

      Nearly ANY girl who is friends with a mentally challenged boy still rules them out as a romantic prospect. Someone to challenge her intellectually, someone with whom to share and give wise council, to be a life partner
      Jenny was also beauty of playboy model caliber and likely had her choice in men. (often chose poorly).

I honestly think it's refreshing and restores a little bit of humanity in this crazy, sometimes ugly and horrible world. I also like to experience a movie with someone that hasn't seen it before because it reminds me of when I first saw it and it brings back those emotions just as you felt them. That's why I watch reaction channels anyways. I do truly think that emotions and crying is a beautiful thing, and I love films that inspire and move people on a deeper level. "Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get."
    Fun Fact: The girl in the school bus with the red hair is Tom Hanks's daughter, Elizabeth Hanks.
    Music Enthusiast Fact: Inspired by Lieutenant Dan Taylor, the military veteran character he played in this movie, Gary Sinise co-founded a rock and roll cover band called "The Lt. Dan Band" during the mid-2000s. The band often goes on USO tours to play for U.S. military personnel stationed around the world and also plays various benefits for veteran-related causes. Sinise was awarded the Presidential Citizen Medal in 2008 for his charity efforts.
    Double Duty Fact: In the movie there are four actors/actresses who play multiple roles. Gary Sinise plays Lieutenant Dan as well as all of his ancestors. Mykelti Williamson plays Benjamin Beaufort "Bubba" Blue, as well as the waiter opening Dr. Pepper bottles when Forrest meets JFK as an All-American. Sally Field plays Forrest's mom, as well as a male reporter during Forrest's run across America. Tom Hanks plays both Forrest and his Confederate ancestor.

    i feel like people love this movie so much because we've all had a "Jenny" in our lives. Someone we were fond of, hoped the best for, and think about for a considerable part of our lives that we'd hope to be with eventually but it doesn't pan out the way we hope. This story was tragic, but with many silver linings along the ride.

    People are way too harsh on Jenny. She is a character that was sexually assaulted by the person who was supposed to protect her, her father, at what age? 8 or 9 Well before puberty even. That is massive childhood trauma. She could NOT form attachments. She's never felt actual love. All she'd known was abuse. I don't think you can expect people who suffer real trauma of any to behave like those that haven't. Forest is an exception. He faced war and didnt' change. Lt. Dan faced war and it broke him. Lt. Dan faced trauma. To me that's the underlying narrative of Jenny's story. That she can't love until maybe the end, when she has a child, and is settled, and cares for a child the way she was never cared for. And that's the only point when she can love and that's when she contacts Forest, and only at that point can her behavior comport with what the person that has never been an abuse victim, a victim of childhood trauma, thinks she should act. To me she is one of the best characters in the story.

    • @tbirdparis
      @tbirdparis Рік тому +1

      She is definitely one of the most complex characters in the film, perhaps _the_ most complex. Another thing a lot of people don't seem to realise is that throughout all those years apart, Jenny isn't trying to hurt Forrest by coming back and leaving again. Deep down she knows she's broken, she knows she's going through all kinds of self-destructive behaviour with no idea where it's taking her nor how to stop it. So even though she needs Forrest in her life and keeps coming back, the last thing she wanted to do was drag him down with her. She even outright tells him as much when she says "you don't want to be with someone like me", or whatever that line is exactly.
      In the end all her years of unfortunately doing all the worst things possible to run away from facing and dealing with her childhood abuse finally do catch up with her. As is implied by the drug use she got into, including needles, without directly saying it the film nevertheless makes it clear that she ended up being HIV+. Those short lines of dialogue about the doctors not knowing what she had and not being able to do anything about it (also the timeline of this part of the film being now up to the early 80s), it's clear that she developed full blown AIDS well before there was any kind of treatment available. So in its own way, Jenny's character arc also tracks many significant events that happened throughout those same decades as Forrest's arc does, but sadly hers are very much the darker side of things. It really is a pity that many people leave this film with such a negative view on her, they're really missing out on a lot.

    I go back and forth on how much I like the story and how much it just strains credulity too much for me. The really interesting things, I think, though are the behind-the-scenes things. This movie pioneered so many things that would become standard in CGI work. The relationship Tom Hanks had with both boys, the one who played young Forrest and the one who played Forrest Junior, was fun and friendly. Then the surprisingly-intricate work with the feather--I've always found how they made this movie more fascinating than the movie itself. It _is_ a good story, of course, but for me the real magic was in the making of it.

    Tom based his speech pattern on the kid who played him as a kid.
    Back in the 50's parents with kids like Forrest would have been encouraged to send them to a psychiatric facility or some school to learn a simple trade which is why his mom fought so hard for him.
    There was going to be a sequel where Forrest was raising his son who contracted aids from Jenny and they were going to meet Princess Diana and be near the Oklahoma bombing and other 90's events but the script showed up either the day before or day after 9/11 and Tom and the director decided the movie had no meaning anymore so they didn't make it.
