The part where Forrest asks if little Forrest was smart always gets me.
Tom Hanks delivery of that line is perfection. You'd have to be a sociopath to not cry at that moment.

It's the moment in the movie where Forrest really shows how conscious he is about his intelligence. And it's so powerful.
That line always gets me too, along with Bubba's "I wanna go home". Both moments just break my heart every time.
It's an absolute gut punch
According to Tom Hanks what Forrest said in his speech when his mic was cut was
“Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don’t go home at all. That’s a bad thing. That’s all I have to say about that.”
I just realized that that can be interpreted as him echoing how he tried to cheer up Lt. Dan because he was lucky to come back from Vietnam at all. It's neat that the speech is very much in character for Forrest even though it was never meant to be heard on camera.
In Spanish, you can here him say "your best fr..." and then the mic is cut.

I was a Pulp Fiction fanboy and pissed that Forrest Gump won so many Oscars in 1994. It wasn't until 1996 when I saw the movie that I thought: yeah it's another masterpiece.
I completely agree. Such an innocent remark over someone's grief/trauma that rings so true.
That scene (and my own experiences with trauma) was so powerful, and it sets up Forrest's tearing down of the house. My only wish was that Jenny could've seen him do it.
When he looks at Little Forrest and says, "Is he smart or is he..." and then gestures towards himself, my heart and soul fall through the floor. It makes me weep every single time I see it. Forrest is quite aware of his limitations.
Exactly! As a Dad now, I can understand his concern. And relief.
You can see all of Forrest's compassion and fears in that moment. He does not want his son to be like him. The relief on his face when she says he's so very smart.
This film never fails to make me cry, it's an absolutely phenomenal performance by Tom Hanks.

It's Gary Sinise who always gets me to cry. Lt Dan is just the best.
What makes me almost cry is how much a simp Forrest is. Forrest is an All American College Football star, a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, an International Ping Pong Champion, and millionaire business owner. Forrest should have found him a young sexy girl and not waste his time with a woman who has a high body count that would put Kim Kardashian to shame.
I honestly cried again this night watching this reaction. I forgot how sad and beautiful this movie was. As a kid losing my dad, it was quite heart breaking. It so beautiful. One of the best movies I’ve ever seen as a kid.
This aftermath of this film changed Gary Sinise's life forever. Lt. Dan became an icon for veterans and it prompted Gary to start the Gary Sinise Foundation--which helps disabled veterans with whatever they need--they've built houses, retrofitted others, physical/mental therapy, etc. As if that wasn't enough, Gary also started "The Lt. Dan Band" which has been a seemingly permanent addition to the USO Tour for troops overseas. There's a really good and heartwarming video somewhere here in the UA-cams where a bunch of veterans (and celebrities) made a thank you video for all he's done for the military and its veterans.
Gary Sinise is a living legend for the Veteran Community and such an amazing human being

The way his momma taught him to just accept himself was a very powerful thing. A whole lot of people would benefit to learn that these days. It's hard though, for lots of us, took me a long time.
Lt. Dan said, "If you're ever a shrimp boat captain, that's the day I'm an astronaut!" and he kept his word on that, too: Gary Sinise went on to play an astronaut in Apollo 13, alongside Tom Hanks. Another strongly recommended movie that will make you cry.
In the book, Forrest became an astronaut.

Fun fact Tom Hanks was a captain in both of those movies. Also a captain in Captain Phillips and Saving Private Ryan. And News of the World, and Sully and Greyhound. Have I named them all?
The ironic part is that Jenny tells Forrest that he doesn't know what love is, but eventually it is she who learns how to love from him.
@brad.....did she though? She only wrote Forrest after she got sick. Did she love him more than platonic or did she want her son to be raised by his father if she died?
It's likely her getting sick and realizing how limited her time was made her finally realize how much time she had lost with the only man that's ever cared for and loved her by pushing him away. I think having her son made her realize what real love for someone is supposed to be like and how Forrest had given that to her all along.
Jenny didn't think Forrest knew what Love is, because she didn't believe someone as pure as him could actually love someone like her. The damage from her past made her feel like she was trash and someone like Forrest couldn't love her, so when he said he loved her, she had to believe he didn't really know what love is. Having a child made her feel what real unconditional love is.

@@stevep2380 Real love is selfless love. She knew that she would forever be a burden to him. She could have called him at any time and she would have had all her bills paid, everything she needed just for the asking, rather than struggling as a single mother, but Forest was the one pure thing in her life and she didn't want to corrupt it... until she had another pure thing in her life, and the last thing she could do for both of them before she died was bring them together.
Addie, you are so precious when you remembered that Jenny prayed to be a bird at the movie's end. After we see the birds fly away by her grave site. She found the peace that she always wanted and Forrest gave her that unconditional love that was robbed from her as a child and she could never find. AWesome reaction.
YOu should watch "Apollo 13" and "Castaway" both have Tom Hanks in them. You'll love it for sure.
When she was younger, Robin Wright starred in a movie that should also definitely be on your list: The Princess Bride (1987). I'm sure you'll love it!

We need more people like Forrest Gump.
Perhaps the most devastating part of this film is when Forrest sees his son and he looks at Jenny and asks "Is he smart or is he like me?" Because up until that point we're lead to believe that he's just this happy go lucky person who falls into all these great things and has no idea how stunted he is (in the eyes of others) right up *until he says those words* and then all of that, that he's know the *entire time* that he's not smart is just absolutely crushing.
In my opinion, possibly the greatest single moment in movie history.
Yeah you didn't pay attention to the movie then. It's clear with lines like "I guess Lieutenant Dan figured there's some things you just can't change. He didn't want to be called crippled, just like I didn't want to be called stupid. " and that he literally got bullied for being slow.

@@MikkiManson13 To me, I think it still brings out something that was hidden up until that moment; Insecurity. It makes perfect sense for anyone to be upset with people calling them stupid their whole life, but to be called stupid so much that you internalize it and are haunted by it… that’s just so sad that I can’t help but cry.
Watching you cry is one of the most heartbreaking things I've seen.
Forrest Gump was mostly filmed in my hometown of Savannah Georgia. At that time my family and I lived east of Savannah just ten minutes from the beach. My late wife worked at a nearby seafood restaurant called Snappers. One day Tom Hanks, Robin Wright Penn and Haley Joel Osment came to eat at the restaurant. My wife was hostess and sat them. She ga

One of the greatest movies ever made, at the start most people in the movie thought he would not mount up to much but how wrong they were, life is what you make it.
A masterpiece of a movie

Forrest, in his SIMPLICITY, represents everything we COULD be if we just make the best of everything life gives us. Obviously, he's so good-natured that he's almost too good to be true. What makes this movie amazing is its ability to make you laugh, be scared, cry, cheer, and be angry all in the space of 3-4 minutes. "Forrest Gump is one of the only movies I've seen ever to pull this feat off so successfully.
Forrest had an awesome mother, however he needed a father in his life to teach him about hoes and the games they play. Forrest, with a father’s mentoring, wouldn’t have quickly accepted Jenny’s kid as his with her hoe background.
A father would’ve advised Forrest, dude you are a college football all American, a congressional Medal of Honor recipient, international ping pong champion, and a millionaire company owner. Forrest forget that hoe Jenny and utilize your high value male status to get a fine young woman with less of a body count.
this was the movie that introduced me to actor Gary Sinise. the adorable little boy was Haley Joel-Osment, who went on to be in the movie "The 6th Sense" with Bruce Willis, and then the movie "A.I." then there are 2 other Tom Hanks movies that can also make you cry: "Saving Private Ryan", and then "Cast Away".

My favorite movie of all time. It has everything, humor, action, suspense, tragedy, triumph, war scenes, tear jerking. Tom Hanks's performance was phenomenal. I cant imagine anyone else in this role.

Seeing Lt. Dan at the wedding very happy and successful and seeing Jenny so happy to see Forrest standing outside her door are some of my fav moments that isn't mentioned as much as some iconic scenes.

Saw this movie in the theaters with my mom when it first came out. I was an extremely young kid, so I didn’t get everything, but I became obsessed with the concept of living through history and history itself upon watching it.

Finally ! Finally someone who understands Jenny and doesn't blame her for being mean to Forrest (which she wasn't). So many reactors are angry against her, think she puts him through so much misery.
My take on Jenny is very different : The horrific experience she went through when she was just a little girl damaged her so deep she always though she was worth nothing. Thats why she choosed such a self-destructive path. And the reason why she never let Forrest be part of her life is because she knew that her lifestyle would destroy him, that she would drag him down with her. The first time she returned, to me she had decided to put that away, she wanted to start a new life and she needed a place to rest before that so she went to Forrest. But after they had spend the night tgether, she realised it was too soon for that, that she wasn't ready yet to let him in so she ran away. As Forrest is doing his running, we can see her working as a waitress so we know she's stetting a path for herself to a new life. And when she was sure that she had her life stabilised, that she had put her self-destructive path behind her, she invited him to join her. And that's important : When she needed a place to crash, she WENT to him. Now that she's good, she INVITES him. Unfortunately her passed caugh up with her. The last part seems to be set in the late '80 - early '90 and the disease she got is AIDS (the movie doesn't say it but when you read between the lines, it become obvious)
She didn't have AIDS. The author of the book this is based on said it was Hepatitis C. At the time the movie takes place, AIDS wasn't unknown, but Hep C was. Makes her line "The doctors - they don't know what it is and there isn't anything they can do about it," make a lot more sense. If she'd had AIDS at that time period, the doctors would've been able to identify it.

It's always shocking to me how many people seem to hate Jenny. That's clearly not what the filmmakers were going for.

Love this movie. It might be the perfect movie. Writing, acting, soundtrack are all amazing. Emotional roller coaster. I still cry every time I watch a reaction to it.

This is one of my favorite performances by Tom Hanks. This, 'Saving Private Ryan' and 'Apollo 13' are all phenomenal performances. I think this one in particular was his best work because it's a character driven story. And I don't think it's possible for anyone to not tear up when he asks if little Forrest is smart or...like him...that hits deep. What a phenomenal movie that can be watched many times and still hit you right in the feels.
It's amazing to me at times how much of the story is told through the lense within a short moment. When Forrest is at Jenny's grave and presents the letter, you are presented with Forrest's integrity that he did not read the letter, keeping his promise to his heart-broken son. When the camera zooms in on the folded piece of paper as he is placing it down you see the word "Mom" closeup and all of the emotion hits you. Understanding the sadness of a little boy who lost his mom forever, feeling the anguish without having to know what was written within.
And Jenny throwing the stones... she didn't need to say a word for us to understand what she was feeling and how her experience impacted her life. Such a good movie.
Everyone hates Jenny and how she treated a sweet, nice guy like Forrest and how she gave him up so many times, and yes, Forrest didn't deserve that. But people need to understand that Jenny was sexually molested and physically abused by her father as a toddler. When her father abused and molested her, he not only made her feel bad, but made her BELIEVE in it too (Children, especially toddlers, are like sponges and they can easily be manipulated) and it forever damaged Jenny's innocence. In other words, the abuse made her believe for the rest of her life that that's how she should be treated and that she's worthless and doesn't deserve love or help. It sent her down a path where, instead of accepting sweet, real love and guys like Forrest, she instead went for hard, tough love and guys like her father or boyfriends who take advantage of her, because she never learned to love herself, so she couldn't let anybody else, like Forrest, love her back. That's why when Forrest proposed to her, she replied, "You don't want to marry me." And that's why she ran away from Forrest after hanging out with him, that's why she never wrote back to Forrest when he was deployed in Vietnam, and that's why she rejected Forrest's help whenever she was harassed or assaulted, because she believes she doesn't deserve any love or help at all. On the outside, she looks like a messed-up, abused, drug-addict woman, but in the inside, she's a sweet, young woman whose innocence was damaged, mind was messed up, and never deserved to get abused in the first place. All Jenny needed was time to adapt to Forrest's sweet love and optimism and getting pregnant with Forrest's son and contracting a sexually-transmitted disease that made her a changed person. Sadly, in this world we live in, there are real-life victims of child abuse and domestic violence out there that are easily manipulated or deluded by the abuse and aggressor that will make them keep going back to the abuse over and over again no matter what.
So before you guys judge or berate and make fun of Jenny, i just want y'all to understand this and realize why she's like that. Alright? Love you guys so much! Peace! :)👍🙏💙💖❤💙💖❤
It sux being sexually abuse. Let alone it being your own father. Normally it is stepparents who do this but birth parents could do this too.

The part where Forrest finds out little Forrest is his and he says, "Is he smart or is he-..." gets me EVERY time. Hands down my favorite line delivery in all of film history. Not only is the delivery great, but the meaning behind asking that; Is he smart or?... or what? seen as "different". Because Forrest knows if his son is seen as stupid or different like him he will have similar issues that he had and that BREAKS me every time he says the line; the way Tom's voice cracks during the delivery as well. Phenomenal
Tom Hanks deservedly gets a lot of credit for this movie, but I learned a little while back that he didn’t create the voice of Forrest. He was imitating the young actor who played young Forrest, Michael Conner Humphreys, who had a southern accent. He said it was easier than inventing a drawl and having Michael imitate him. A lovely film that elicits all the emotions, Hanks and director Robert Zemeckis would later make another great movie together, Cast Away.
i watched this movie for the first time when i was a kid. bubba saying "i wanna go home" always struck me.
Jenny's problem is how she was used and abused, 1st by her father, then by every man she met except Forrest. She felt like she was worth nothing and was never going to be worth anything and would just bring Forrest down with her , she had no idea how to love anyone. It wasn't until she had little Forrest and was given one pure good thing in her life she was able to find her self worth to a point and then accepted that she loved Forrest and always had and it was OK to love someone and not expect them to hurt her. It is very complicated and you get snippets of it in every scene she is in. The first thing you see is all she knows how to do is run from anything as she keeps telling Forrest to do , she doesn't know any other way to deal with the pain and bad and it takes her so long to finally figure it out ( unfortunately this is true for too many and some never get to figure anything out) , Jenny deserves pity not hate , she didn't know how to love until it was too late but she gave Forrest 2 gifts before she left, true love and what it feels like , and someone to love and give his life meaning in Forrest Jr. . Forrest might not be a genius but I would lay any bet he is an incredibly loving and good father.
Very few people, and almost none of the reactors I've seen on youtube, seem to get that.

We have the luxury of watching Jenny's life and seeing all the things around her, the character of her, like many people in real life, don't have that luxury.

I don't know why Jenny gets so much crap for being a bit of a klutz at worst, while characters like Walter White and you could write a big list of antagonists, mostly male and female, are 'misunderstood'.
One of the most beautiful movies ever made and the performance of a lifetime by Tom Hanks.
I probably bawled through at least half of this reaction video. The actor Gary Sinise, who played Lieutenant Dan helps raise a lot of money for disabled veterans. In DAV magazine, I often read about some tribute concert or event that he appears in with his band. Speaking of music, when I used the GI Bill to put myself through music school, I had to take a class called Aural Perception, in which I had to identify the intervals between notes. For a perfect fifth, I remembered by the beginning piano part in the Forrest Gump Suite.
What always touches me is that when Forrest is running everyone is looking for some reason as to why he is doing it. He just says “I felt like running!”. Forrest does not need to consider why something happens or why someone behaves the way they do, and this is why he is a great friend. He does not judge anyone, and he is always there when people need him, regardless of how they treat him. And even when Jenny has died he still says “if there is anything you need, I won’t be far away.”
When he first falls down with his braces and his mom has that little pause of shock before reaction is so great and believable. And when Bubba said "I wanna go home" my heart breaks every time I see that.
The last half hour of this movie I cry every time it never fails. This is such a classic.
There are only a handful of movies where I cry every time I watch them; I’d say this is the only one where for reasons I can’t explain I cry HARDER every time I watch it. Just watching you react to it just wrecked me for the rest of the day.
When he ran across the ball field, the coach, in the "houndstooth" hat is supposed to be Bear Bryant, the iconic coach of the University of Alabama. So many great historic footnotes in this movie!
“Lieutenant Daaaan, ice creeeeeam!” …we used to quote that all time in my house growing up. Especially when ice cream was around.

This is said a lot in a Forrest Gump reaction videos but Jenny didn't think she was in love with Forrest because she thought she was taking advantage of him the same way her father molested her hence why she kept running away from him because she thinks that no one will be able to love her unconditionally. Something that Forrest does.
This is why she kept running from one bad relationship to the next because she normalizes the abuse she received and could never understand the pure affection that Forrest have for her. It is only at the end when she understood what unconditional love is, by being a mother, that she can understand Forrest's love for her hence why she send him the letter. People give her a lot of flak for what she did, yes she is not an angel by any means, but they fail to understand why she did them.
Way to many people rag on Jenny as if she is some nasty person... you have to look at her actions through the lens of a small child who'd been systematically abused for years. That sort of thing has a permanent effect on your adult life (especially in a time when counseling wasn't really available).
My daughter went to college in Savannah, GA. When I visited her once, she showed me the shooting location of the bench on which Forrest sits during the film's framing story. The city naturally has a plaque and tourists ofen sit there for selfies.

So glad that you did get Jenny. I think Jenny was the second most important person in the movie. The movie showed her life from basically the same time as it started with Forest. She truly loved Forest and had the same deep down kind nature as he. She was the only one to befriend him on the bus at the very start to show her good nature. [and continued to be his good friend through high school, imagine how hard that was with all the bullies still on Forrest's case, so to speak] The trauma she had to deal with was an obviously very deep wounding of her. I won't go into that, just point out that they [as the two main subjects of the plot] were basically two kindhearted and worthy people from two different upbringings. She talks of how their lives are so different. [recognizing her flaws] She repeatedly lets Forrest know she Does Love Him [always in a sad tone, knowing she could hurt the one true constant good in her life if she let him into hers then] And not wanting to hurt the only true one she did love would say "You don't want to marry me" [imagine how it must have hurt her to have to tell him that!]. She had to fix herself [with no help from anyone in those days -totally on her own to heal herself] before worthiness could take place. Forrest helped everyone! And the way he helped her was finally to let her find the first true lovemaking she had ever done after she recovered at his house. [her choice finally to see it's OK to have a good man watch over her as she obviously made the best decision of her life to "clean up" -with all the sleeping that was needed] When she agreed with Forrest that he would make a good husband on those stairs it led to the final "fix" that happened when she would have felt so badly when he thought she didn't love him. She finally allowed herself to express to him [and herself] the lovemaking she had never known and was always afraid to accept. It was real. It was good. [for both of them] And it was time to leave [yes, once again] but this time Not Running. It was time to make herself a good clean life without his help to be sure she wouldn't hurt him to be with him. [remember she was really new to the clean life, with just those few weeks or so clean so far] She proved it to herself and It isn't clear in the movie but she may well have written the letter for him to come before she found out her condition [he was running for years] and either way I believe she would have contacted Forrest about his child even if she had not come down with Hepatitis C [a not defined or understood illness back then -it wasn't aids as the author has said it was Hep C] Remember when she left the last time she would not have known she was pregnant yet, just that she needed to be sure she was worthy to live up to the love she felt for him that night of her first true loving. Two deep down Good People, with very different lives who none the less helped each other throughout their life's even as differently as it went for them. One finding it very easy to let the deep-down good person show, the other struggling greatly to let that nature show. Together it showed in both of them easily. It was a true love story from beginning to end. That's all I got to say about that. Loved the reaction and have subscribed. I love that you understood Jenny.
Forrest Gump is one of the best if not the best philosophical movies I have ever seen. A lot of people didn't even notice the feather, but the first and last five minutes of the movie showed the whole essence of the movie. For me, it was an interplay between freewill, fate and destiny, which was spelled out during numerous events throughout the movie. However, I was so engrossed with this interplay that I completely missed another major theme, and one to me that actually overrode this interplay which was the true meaning of 'love', again played out right throughout the movie.
Hey Ralph Butcher! I think Forrest Gump does a fantastic job at balancing many genres of film (Drama, Comedy, Romance, "Coming-Of-Age", War Film, etc...) altogether in 1 movie! The performances are also VERY good, especially from Tom Hanks (and Gary Sinise as Lt. Dan is another personal favorite for me). Overall, I just find Forrest Gump to be very inspirational. Personally, I often connect with the movie because my brother actually has Autism (And even though Forrest may not have had Autism, him and my brother can relate a bit in that they are both disabled).
I also just wanted to mention that Last Year, I actually posted a video on my UA-cam channel that was almost like a tribute video to Forrest Gump (though I called it a Mashup). You see, there's a band named Family Of The Year, and they used their hit song "Hero" for Richard Linklater's 2014 movie called Boyhood. For my video, I used "Hero" as background music while showing various scenes from Forrest Gump. Aside from matching song lyrics with movie scenes, my intention with the video was to try and create something unique.

One of my favorite parts is the bus driver, Dorothy Harris at the beginning and the end of the movie. I always love when reactors leave that part in with Forest's son at the end, and she give him a nice smile when he says they aren't strangers anymore. I just feel like rather than being a jerk (as characters like this frequently are), Dorothy's one of the good ones out there, you know?
I like how she is smoking in the beginning and at the end is chewing gum!
Dorothy even has a story arc. Lol.

This is one of his first movies after which people started to take Tom Hanks seriously as a actor/movie star! And there is a difference between being an actor and being a movie star!

The scene where Forest is at the capital and Jenny runs through the water and the PA (mic) get unplugged. Forest said "in Vietnam, you might just lose your best good friend".
Every single scene with Jenny is so heartbreaking in the film, especially once you already know how it ends. There's a lot of that in the film, but the Jenny stuff more than anything.
Most heartbreaking scene imo is bubba dying, saying he wants to go home

Best reaction to this movie that I've seen. I taught special needs children, from emotionally disturbed to severely autistic. The character, Forrest would be diagnosed as a high level autistic child with slightly below normal I.Q. Tom Hanks played the role perfectly. Addie, your responses to this and other movies are well balanced in that you combine analysis with appropriate emotion. You did cry a lot 😢 in this movie but then again so did I 😢. GREAT JOB😊
Fun fact. When they were trying to decide on adult Forrest's voice they could crack it. Then the kid who plays young walked in they heard him. As soon as they heard his real voice that was it. I think I learned that from The Movies That Made Us on Netflix. People that turned down the role of Forrest were Bill Murray, John Travolta, Chevy Chase, Bill Paxton and John Goodman. They inserted Forrest Gump's story in so many pivotal moments, I'm surprised he didn't meet Neil Armstrong before his Apollo Xi flight. Or even better, James Lovell before his Apollo XIII flight.

Tom Hanks is such a great actor. If you watch closely during the scene where he meets little Forrest and Jenny tells him “I named him after his daddy”, and Tom hanks says.. “he’s got a daddy named Forrest to?”, you can see how he figures it out before he finishes that sentence.
Crazy thing about Lt Dan's legs are that he said in the bar "maybe they'll make me an astronaut" and his legs were made out of space shuttle material

Wonderful reaction to a wonderful movie. This is one of the best films of al time because it lets you feel all the emotions. So many memorable quotes. My favorite (besides the "Is he smart or is he like me"): "I am not a smart man, but I know what love is."
So many simple lines, nothing poetic or flowery, but all delivered SO perfectly that they impact the soul.
I worked with a guy in DC who was one of the Black Panthers in the movie. I remember when his brother (who also worked there) told me he was going to be a Black Panther in a new movie with Tom Hanks, I asked him what the name of the movie was going to be. He said "It's called, like, Forrest Gump or something." I said "Stupid name. It'll be a flop." Haha.
I love this movie so much. Forrest has such a pure heart and never really changes in the movie, but everyone around him has a character arc.
This movie is much deeper than it first seems, it's about redemption the most beautiful part of hope.
The only person who knew that Forrest is a god damn genius was that Sergeant.

My favorite part is when Forrest is describing his time in Viet Nam and then running across the country. Jenny "I wish I could have been there with you." Forrest "You were." Showed Jenny that she was always in Forrest's mind.

There was going to be a sequel where
Forrest was raising his son who contracted aids from Jenny and he was going to meet Princess Diana and be near the Oklahoma bombing and other 90’s events but the script showed up the day before 9/11 and Tom and the director decided it had no meaning anymore so didn’t make it.
I'm very happy to finally see a reactor not be judgemental about Jenny.
So many people say she's a bad person who is just using Forrest. But you clearly understand the simple and, I would think, obvious truth. That Jenny is deeply traumatized due to childhood abuse and deserves pity and love. Not judgement.

Even though this movie is about Forest Gump, I feel like Lt. Dan's story arc was as good or better than Forrest's. He goes from becoming broken as a man by becoming handicap and not living up to his family's legacy, to going to help Gump with shrimp fishing maybe as a way to get out of the depressing situation he was in, then finding peace with what he was given in life, and finally having hope.
People don't point out that his fiance is Asian. A lot of Vietnam Vets became prejudiced against all Asian people, but Lt. Dan had made his peace with the past. Just another indicator of how he had changed.
Someone also pointed this out and I never really noticed it for years. Dan is in a really dark place and time when he meets Forrest in N.Y. When Forrest writes the letter looking for a first mate that could have literally saved Dan's life.

Magical indeed. All The Feels. Such a beautiful gift of a movie (one of my all-time faves) with Hanks winning his back-to-back 2nd Oscar (richly deserved) and so iconic. The simplicity of a simple man's pure heart and love for his friends and family speaks volumes. Robin Wright's Jenny is such a broken abused woman who can barely get thru her life - heartbreaking - in spite of the one constant - Forrest's love for her. Equally compelling is Gary Sinise's Lt. Dan who at first cannot fathom living past his 'destiny' and instead has renewed hope all thanks to Forrest literally saving his life. The blend of CGI is still remarkable - Robert Zemeckis knew how to employ the tools for this special even film. And yes I cry every time Forrest questions his intelligence only for the first time upon learning of his child w/Jenny *Niagara Falls* First time coming to your channel Addie - so subscribed - you have a very gentle way about you and your emotions were all on target.

It is always an experience to see somebody see this epic movie for the first time. Btw, the John Lennon interview is a great gem.
So I am from Beaufort, SC where a chunk of this was filmed. I was 10 years old when I got to watch the scene being filmed with lt. Dan screaming at god during the thunderstorm on the shrimp boat. ( It was filmed in Port Royal which is a smaller port town off of Beaufort) My wifes cousin was the little girl who snuck in and climbed up to Forest bedroom too. Also, Gary Sinese, who plays Lt. Dan, has a band called the Lt. Dan Band. He comes almost every summer to the Wasterfest to play. The best part is after Gary finished up his set, he hangs out with us locals at the bars chatting and drinking with us. The guy is great. You might even see Tom Hanks snagging a Po' boy from the local shrimp shack. I'm glad you enjoyed this. Always holds a special place in my heart.
