Hey friends, Diana here, from the first question about advertising illustration. I want to thank you very much for taking up my question and for all the great insights you provided! I got a long list of ToDo's now hehe. I will figure out my place in this industry and come back to you to keep you updated about my progress !

"The statement "the magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding" carries a profound meaning that encourages personal growth and transformation. It suggests that the key to finding fulfillment, success, and a sense of enchantment lies in facing and embracing the tasks or challenges that we tend to avoid." -- Microsoft Bing
^^^ This set me free from much of my procrastination.

The "Bucket List" idea is worth thinking about. I make budgeting software (not going to link to it because that's not what this is for) and in helping people with their budgets have come to the conclusion: All money is spent, eventually. The goal is to *use* it rather than feel like you *lose* it. In the game of chess I used to protect pieces to my detriment, now I’m learning to spend my pieces to buy a better position. Chess pieces aren’t meant to be saved, they’re meant to be used to accomplish your goal. Same with money.

Hey Guys, I've been working in illustration for advertising for about 20 years now. It's true that AI has made things a bit more challenging in recent years, but illustration is still going strong, especially for packaging, events, and holiday-related communication. You're absolutely right that having a distinctive style is crucial for getting noticed. Also, you don't need to work with an agency to land advertising jobs-I work directly with clients as well. Anything is possible! =)

I find this comment really inspiring as an illustrator starting my own freelance journey. Do you have any tips?

Diana here, I found Will's advice to go deeper into a specific distinctive style so valuable and will get rid of the illustrations in my portfolio that pander towards editorial rather than advertising. Instead I will do even more Illustrations for packaging and product ads.

@dianalazaru I've been finding myself wanting to do it all: children's book illustrations (and even in that I find that I have 2 styles, one more plain and lineart oriented and the other more round with more shadows and details), editorial black and white, more realistic rather than round and children's oriented. I like doing it all but want to be realistic and try to appeal for work. I guess I either do separate portfolios or, as you said, focus on one distinctive style (and that a whole other path on its own)

As always excellent podcast! I love the nuggets that you guys are always dropping. Lee, that was a dope breakdown the new adventure of having studio space again. Lol I love how you guys don’t shy from the procrastination post. It’s an ever going issue in the community, let alone any community. I had to take note on Lee White’s three phases of the project, daydreaming - deciding to do it - viability. I’m taking those with me! Great one guys! 🖊️ 🐇

Is the print on Lee’s shirt really backwards or does he have his camera on a mirror setting?

Perhaps a solution for Andren is using a different medium? Or switching up for a little bit ? where the process of creating is more fun than the daydream of a finished project
