We feel we have some pretty good opinions to share about these amazing off-road vehicles. in the end, who is the 4x4 king? who is the pavement princess? what one would you own?

Great review. As a Defender owner, I can't dismiss the off-road capability of the Bronco right out of the box with the 35s, but the Defender just hits different - it's the perfect mix of business and party. I owned a 2020 110 P400 for three years with zero major issues and I'm taking delivery on my 2024 110 P400 in just a few days from JLR Richfield, MN! Love that you guys are local. If you ever want another Defender for a comparison, hit me up!

Just confirming what others have said. I originally had a 2 door bad lands on order, this going back to the initial arrivals. My 2 door came in but had to be kept at the dealer due to a faulty airbag sensor. I was, though, able to take it out for an extended test drive. I did this by myself for almost 1 hour. It looked cool, but wow, it sure felt cheap. After that drive, I stopped at a Land Rover dealership and checked out the 90. What a difference. Just leaps and bounds better build quality, materials, feel, looks. I was sold. I never picked up the Bronco and I immediately ordered a defender 90. Took like 8 months to get... but it was so worth it.

TLDR: No matter how much trim you add to a Bronco it's still a Ford Bronco. And no matter how much trim you omit from Defender, its still a Land Rover Defender.

    Great video guys.
Very fair feedback & review of both vehicles.
As u say, they are both SUV with off road capability etc, but, they are very different vehicles.
If u can afford the price difference, the Defender with P400 engine is much better v the P300.
P400 is six cylinder with excellent power.
A 90 model with this motor, is actually a pretty fast car.
P400 manages the weight of Defender with no problem.
P300 is a great engine, but it struggles with weight of Defender.
P300 uses more fuel than the 6 cylinder P400..
If your Defender 90, had P400 motor, u would have enjoyed it a lot more..

As I stated in another review of yours recently, I test drove the Bronco and the Defender in the past few weeks. I've had several LR products and I can say from experience, nothing makes you feel love and hate for a car like LR. You just keep coming back, love wins. The Bronco felt detached. You don't drive it thinking it's caressing you, you drive it thinking ok, this is cool, next. The feeling is short lived and I know that after about 6 months in a Bronco I would feel like the cool factor is worn off. When I had my LR RR Evoque I was excited to drive it every single time I got in it. Never ever bored of driving it, even though it was NOT reliable. However, that was 8 years ago. Everyone I ask in my area that has a Defender loves it and no-one complained about reliability. Long and short , I'm likely to buy a Defender in the next couple of weeks. Nothing else massages your 5 maybe 6 senses like a LR or RR.

Just love the Defender.

Well done on the objectivity but for many LR owners (me included), it’s not about the look, the cost or even the performance on or off-road - it’s all about the colour of the oval. I wouldn’t drive anything else. Also safety. Watching the crash test videos - the Bronco collapses like a tin can in a crash. The Defender is fairly indestructible.

Of course Bronco inferior to Defender in safety performance being body on frame open top vehicle with removable doors.
That said, while safer than Bronco, Defender is hardly indestructible.

As a Land Rover fan for decades, I am disappointed with what Land Rover have done to the Defender. All they have done is build another family car and not a utility vehicle with anything remotely like the spirit of the outgoing Defender. The Bronco on the other hand, YES! I like the Bronco and would buy one over the new Defender every day. Sadly, it will never be sold in the UK because Ford refuse to make a Right hand drive version.

This is honestly a weird comparison. I think it was good and through, but still weird. If called upon, the Bronco Wildtrack you are standing next to could literally do the Rubicon Trail. The Landrover, not so much. Aftermarket support and modification ability. For 2000 bucks you can add new adjustable coil Overs on the Bronco and get 3" of suspension lift, slap on some 37s and go have some real fun and look good doing it. Lifting a Landrover is almost impossible and definently not a weekend warrior project. As far as breaking tie rods, the stuff you got to be doing to do that is crazy. I have watched guys rock crawling the Rubicon trail and not break a tie rod, but some did, but dang, the crap they were in, something had to give. Nice review, but they are not really that comparable beyond the fact that they are both SUVs that are 4 wheel drive and come in both 2 and 4 door configuration. But I watched it, so there is that.

@PerformanceOnWheels actually I am a fan of both also, I just think they are just to different to compare, one being unapologetically rugged (and can be available in very basic and less expensive trims) and one more refined. Both great in their own worlds, but can occasionally mingle with the same crowd. I do believe Landrover made an error in making it to difficult to modify the suspension to give it a chance at the really hard stuff.

Basic Defender looks by far more cheap inside than low level Broncos.
Of course Defender is quieter - does not have convertible top! And it cannot be modified much. So pretty much it’s nothing more than hyped up SUV.

It makes me laugh seeing some people called your review - honest.
Your statement that D90 as big as 4dr. Bronco is total nonsense! Not just it is way smaller, it’s hardly any bigger than 2dr. Bronco.
I wanted to replace 2018 JL Rubicon since I was tired of poor freeway handling of solid axle, with either Defender or Bronco. It took me over a year just to pick between them. After driving at least a dozen of each (both 2 and 4 dr), I can easily say that Defender is nothing more than status symbol. You don’t have to be 4x4 except to realize that Defender lost it’s rugged heritage and never became Range Rover in terms of luxury.
True, Bronco interior is not as quality built as Defender. But Defender with nicer interior is dramatically more expensive. Basic Defender interior interior look cheap at best! While I don’t like Bronco tachometer, I don’t find Defender’s climate control, steering wheel etc.. superior. As you said: it’s matter of opinion. Granted, Defender dashboard storage space is way better than Bronco’s. Option seat ventilation is another advantage.
What really discouraged me from Defender - feeling instability at freeway speed, which is odd considering independent suspension on all cornered, unibody and all electronics. Bronco with larger tires and solid rear axle feels BY FAR more stable on the road! And it’s hardly classified that Defender is inferior to Bronco off-road with all that beefy suspension components. Your options of modifying Defender are very limited in comparison to Bronco.
I also not sure how did you figure that Wrangler showed up in 2018 is on the way out?
So as I said, new Defender is nothing more than status symbol for people who can’t afford G-wagon… Friend of mine has brand new D-90 (over $90K) He didn’t know he has air suspension and never heard of locking differential. Not like he can go off-road with his 22’s.

@@PerformanceOnWheels You contradicted yourself with the specs. How can 173 be much shorter than 180, yet 180 be about the same as 189? I was not arguing length - just said that you don’t feel Defender being larger while driving it. It’s interior is not bigger than Bronco’s. The difference in the engine compartment. Neither it’s wider internally - Defender doors much thicker than Bronco doors. Definitely an advantage over Bronco from safety perspective.
Just because I chose to replace Wrangler with Bronco hardly means Jeeps loosing popularity. True, some of us tired from live front axle. But overwhelming majority buy vehicle because they like it, no matter it’s Bronco, Jeep, Land Rover or whatever. As I said, my colleague drives 2023 D90 and he doesn’t have slight clue about it’s design features. He simply doesn’t see himself in Ford or Jeep after driving Bentley convertible… My wife’s girlfriend drives G-wagon. You seriously believe she knows anything about front suspension, low range etc..?
