Be clear, Brandy was a young actress on the show just like Countess was. Brandy had absolutely nothing to do with those fat jokes. The Moesha & The Parkers writers were the ones to blame for all of those uncomfortable fat jokes. Not the actors.
I wouldn't blame them either back then time's where so different jokes about people insecurity was in style
Brandy could have said something.. if she stopped the step mom from wearing braids.. she could've spoken up for Countess
@rashawndaholmes2651 Please stop saying that just because Brandy and Will Smith were the title characters on their shows; that they could've said something and exact some power over how the show went. They were kids and new (heck, at first Will was mouthing the lines of his costars as they said them, he was so green). Valerie Harper, a seasoned actress had her show "Valerie" taken from her and was fired, her character was killed off and the show was renamed "The Hogans"; another actress was hired and they kept it moving. If that happened to Valerie Harper, what do you think Brandy could've done? And maybe she did say something, you never know.

I think she means in Moesha, there weren't any fat jokes towards Kim on the Parkers, but Hakeem and others would poke at her weight on Moesha a lot.

Yes the 90s were pretty bad but that was nothing compared to Gimme A Break. They fat shamed Nell Carter relentlessly. I was watching it a few weeks ago and it was so bad on that show it was just ridiculous.

I remember Countess telling a story about Pearl making fun of her on the 227 set..And based on the stories Jackee told about Helen, I believe she had a wicked mouth..
She never revealed who it was, she just said it was an older person but everyone was older than her on 227 so most people assumed it was Helen Martin but it wasn't confirmed with anyone else on that show
All that money she was making and she couldn't eat a better diet, or excercise? Why not? Time after time people complain about being teased years after the fact but where was thi energy back then?

Emotional eating is a huge issue for many..we all gain weight for lots of reasons, and God knows she's been hearing about losing weight since she was a kid.. Hope all is well with them today sometimes the people who give us joy go through so many pain and issues I always thought in my mind that everyone on tv was rich and happy I believed the character was the person themselves . I love the show and still love the show and the people that play the roles blessings to them and prayers.
Everything is so well scripted you just can’t see through the play to figure if everyone is ok in life

My favorite episode is when Kim kept nagging Gary Coleman to say his catchphrase. Especially at the very end, when Gary hung up the phone on her after the umteenth time she poked him with the stick. Nikki finally had enough and intervened:

It’s crazy how u look back at pics and people called you fat, but you were hella skinny compared to where you are currently.. Time does get to people's memories. Im pretty sure she means "MOESHA" I watched the first two episodes and was heated. She looked very good and slim but was constantly berated by fat jokes, when barely having any visible signs of a "pudge". Shit like that will do a woman's self esteem, same happed to shorty on Malcolm and Eddy(getting called ugly when she was beautiful)

How can someone get mad though? Why can't you take care of yourself? If you don't want to be in the business, then do what you feel. But if you know you aren't getting gigs because of weight and you choose not to, who's problem is that?
You make a very valid point. Think about how so many young people go into debt before they even have their first job as an investment into their future career. So a person (especially one with plenty of money) can't get a physical trainer and a nutritionist to help them on their journey to fitness? Why not? If anything it could be a real inspiration to other young women to be healthy and not accept an unhealthy lifestyle anymore. Instead, these folks double down and continue to get bigger and bigger and then complain that people dont want to deal with them.
There was also "skinny shaming" on The Parkers. Body shaming period isn't right though

It’s far from right, but this call to arms that millennials and social media has with older media is odd. They had no business mistreating a person based on their image, and making into an acceptable joke.
