  • Here is the hydroponic sweet corn I grew this year in a flood and drain system. The bed is 5 mm (1/4”) gravel, 125mm (5”) deep.
I planted some seed direct into the bed November 21 2020 and some into a seed raising mix. The plants from the seed raising mix I transplanted into the gravel bed.
Initially I was flooding the bed three times a day (every 8 hours). It takes 7 minutes to flood the bed. Then after the plants were growing and the weather was getting hot I upped the flooding to every six hours (4 times a day) then upped to 8 times a day ( every 3 hours).
The sweet corn grew really well and is ready eat at 68 days.

Great results! Corn typically requires a lot of nitrogen so you're probably not using the usual Master Blend + Epsom Salts + Calcium Citrate nutrient mixture. Care to share some details? Thanks!

@@tovikaberlinasari6525 I can’t share my fertiliser recipe sorry. I employed a scientist to design it. Then we spent time developing it. It’s called Strawberry Perfect.

Thank you, I got a really great result in growing corn this way. I’m looking forward to growing corn again this summer, once the current winter crops I have in the flood and drain system are done. Happy growing.

Thank you, I spaced the plants at 12” centres. 1/4” granite stones as media. 5” deep bed. Floods every three hours , takes 7 minutes to about 1/4” from the top. That’s the top level, otherwise if the top gets wet algae develops.
