Made my night to watch this again. This is something you will never see in today’s soaps, the true meaning of Christmas and the story. What a great GL episode.
It's not your imagination. The writing was definitely better, for one. In my opinion, the latter 70s/early 80s was the heydey for soaps in regards to quality (writing/casting/directing). It was more "real" and not so plot-driven.
@@soapsnthings4182 Yeah the storylines were more about the lives of the people in Springfield. Soaps lost their focus I would say by the mid 80’s with glitz and glamour and trying to keep up with night time soaps like Dallas and Dynasty and then started going into crime/mystery.
@@millfred123 oh yes sir unreal for today, the end of Ed's speech brought tears to my eyes, and perfect timing since his estranged wide was carrying his son afterall as it was proven whilr Rita was kidnapped by Roger. unfortunately she lost the baby before she was told, a little food for thought u can also see the lead characters such as Lenore Kasdorf and Michael Zaslow in there earlier years on Barnaby Jones tv series entitled Gold record for murder where Roger's part was short being that he was the victim and Rita was his girlfriend, the parent's hired Barnaby as a private i ..to investigate there son's murder in hopes of also clearing his name, u can also see Mart Hulswit aka Ed Bauer on Mannix tv series entitled night out of time where he plays the young son of an aircraft magnate who awakens from a drunken night with a bandage on his hand , blood on his shirt and fragments of memories of a fight with his girlfriend believing he may have killed her, his father uses his authority to try and cover for his son almost screwing him over trying to keep him out of jail for something he truly didnt do. wonderful performances from them all. simply type in the title youtube search.

Nowadays, everyone would be on their phones (even the kids) half-half-listening to Ed's Tale of Christmas.
Truly graceful and authentic. God Bless us everyone. ❤✌🇺🇸🇺🇸❤✌❤🇺🇸✌❤🇺🇸✌❤🇺🇸
Is it my imagination, but was the dialogue and acting better in those days? It seems to me that people dressed better back than too.

@@soapsnthings4182 Oh YES. You're so damn right about that.
Wow, that was back when we were allowed to say, "Merry Christmas!"
And never stop saying it! :-)
That's nothing ... how about Ed's lengthy Jesus Joseph and Mary story .. that wouldn't happen even in the 90s ...
@@millfred123 H.B. Lewis pulled it off in 1992! ua-cam.com/video/3UTw4HiQ9_0/v-deo.html

It's a shame that writers never acknowledged that Rick, Blake, and Phillip knew each other since they were children.
The did Rick Phillips always were friends and tell each other every episode and Blake was raised by by in out of town are you for real
