Every time I watch the scene where Holly lost it over the roses, it breaks my heart. Her spirit is so broken. Luckily, she had a strong support system. She probably would've lost her mind.
Michael Zaslow should have won a basketful of Emmys for his brilliant portrayal of Roger Thorpe (though he did win one). He should have won one for the 79-80 season.
In a way he did. Supposedly, GL's 1980 best Daytime Drama Emmy was largely due to the "Hall of Mirrors" segment with Roger and Rita, so while neither he nor Lenore won acting Emmys, their performances in those scenes won an Emmy for the show.
Yes, they look like typical homes that people would actually live in. The sets of soaps today look like Barbie's Dream House, or a house in The SIMS. Very unrealistic.
I'd never seen any of this with Philip in the hospital. Poor Jackie. I'd never seen Ed's kitchen from around this time. I prefer it to the one in his "larger" house that we saw in the early '80s episodes. Everything with Floyd and Katie is such fun. They really were the only light relief on the show at this point. Of course comedy was pretty new to soaps like GL to begin with.
Ken George Jones Though the Spanish style and decor of the kitchen is different, the layout is almost exactly the same from the double ovens to the island and over to the position of the patio door. It seems as though it was the one set (the whole Bauer house in fact) that was kept the same the longest...especially the back patio.
Michael Zaslow and Maureen Garrett were both in their 30s when they filmed these scenes, but they looked like teenagers with their round faces and untamed hair. They both should have won Emmys for 1979, which was a powerhouse of stories what with Alan and Hope on the island, and Ed and Rita’s bedroom issue. I was 13 and that’s how I learned about that particular issue...from Rita complaining in her head. LOL
Holly's reaction to the roses being sent to her was very heartbreaking. It was her Birthday and instead of being happy, she broke down and ran away at the sight of them. The thought of them being sent by the very same man who violated her completely gutted her at that moment. Very sad to watch.
You need to watch the episode from November 1977. M.Z. wasn't in the episode, but Maureen was. She was so young in that episode. She looked like one of my old Barbie dolls with her pretty paisley ensemble.
So happy to see you back posting videos, I never got the chance to fully view your previous early 80s Guiding Light uploads, any chance you might take the time to reupload them one day? I'd really love to see then once I get the time.
Thanks for the welcome back. :-) Yes, I definitely plan to re-upload all those other GL episodes I had here before (originally airing between 1980 and 1982). It shouldn't be too terribly long till they're back up, so keep a lookout for them....
Tom Nielsen (Floyd) may have been different in real life.......but I could NEVER SEE what Lisa Brown (Nola) saw in him! I ALWAYS thought she and Michael Tylo (Quinton) had deep feelings for each other in real life!
Actress Cindy Pickett was great in the role of Jackie. Her scenes were always top notch! I loved GL!

Love these old soaps too bad most of them were erased not saved etc...
Barbara's home looks so warm and cozy. It probably smells like apples and cinnamon.
I love the yellow clothes dryer in that ad for GAIN during the opening commercial bumper. Would look great in my bumblebee/sunflower themed kitchen.
Great episode... I've never seen this before.

castlist44 Christopher Bernau should have won at least one

Loved the Hall of Mirrors episode.
@@kelvinblack9530 Hell Yeah!!!
ZAS'!
Thanks for the upload !!
You're welcome
Love Rita great actress
I prefer these sets to the newer ones. They looked a lot more realistic.

IKR? Lol. I found out from Rita talking about pretending with Ed that she was "Faking It."

Axlelives1 Me, too! Thanks. :-) This is fun.

I thought Floyd was sweet and cute.
(Record Scratch effect) Hold up?!, Where is Alan while Philip is lying in the Hospital?
odd to see Roger and Ross getting along
That is exactly what I thought it's amazing to see
What happened to Philip? Why is he in the hospital?
Phillip had a heart condition, which was hereditary on his mother's side of the family.
@@shawnvilla9912 thank you!
Rita is actually being domestic in the kitchen. Great.
I wish they wouldn't have dressed "Jackie" in such frumpy clothes! She's such a pretty woman.
I can't believe Floyd would later go nuts and kill someone? that was not a way to impress beth
