I just did a gigantic house of those flush base and one thing I'm concerned with is the mdf....a lot of the base had to either get ripped or scribed, leaving raw mdf touching the floor.... better hope water never gets near the bottom of the base
Speaking as a UK architect, I was really impressed with the care and patience displayed in this video. I wish some of the joiners over here would be as careful and accurate with their detailing! Nice work guys.
This video is incredibly well done, professional from start to finish. The information given was very useful and to the point. Keep up the great work and I look forward to watching more of your videos.
Looks very neat. Going to be doing this on my upcoming self build project. This is not very common here in the UK, and I don't understand why, as it looks so slick.
You guys are amazing. I've been looking how to do trimless in our remodel and your detailed description is amazing. Does the metal piece need to go on before the top drywall is down or can you do the trip around and already sheetrocked wall?
Hi Brian - Can I ask what where you guys bought the alumimun reglet and the size installed? Does it get instaled before the sheetrock? I looked up alumimun reglet and there seems to be many shapes and I am interested in trying this and hope you can help. Thank you.
Most houses with the modern flush base would be entirely spray foamed, therefore not requiring poly. Flush base is labour intensive, both for the drywaller and joiner, and is upwards of 3 times the costs of the traditional method
What did y’all get done today ? Well you see this piece of base board right here ! That! Ohhhh and don’t forget the others 2 foot square on one end return piece installed that one also ! Ahahahaha
This much money into this house and you go with MDF for the baseboard? It's the one part of the wall that is being permanently installed with construction adhesive and is intended to get bumped and dinged by vacuum cleaners, cords, etc. I must be missing something here.
No, it's too much faffing - worse than skirting! We don't have time for stuff like this. Much better to use a D trim with the 'skirting' already there before the plasterer. Much quicker.
Good point, in some scenarios you can get away with adhesive alone, but i would say most pieces longer than 2 feet need nailing which will keep them in place until the adhesive hardens. You definitely need nails near joints to maintain pressure
Nicely done. My concern is the fire rating on this assembly. Removing the drywall at the base and then installing MDF or wood will enable flames to get into the wall assembly. Didn't the architect understand this concern? Didn't the building inspector call it out? (Looks great, BTW. But, safety first.)
Fire rating on what? Interior walls don’t require fire rating only fire blocking from floor to floor and fire rated partitions if multi unit. Did you see any Roxul or double drywall? If interior walls needed to be fire rated then interior doors would need to be 20mins self closing doors. Looks like you are a newbie that learned in school and not in real world.
Million dollar mansion. , is using MDF. WTF. The corner is. Like pls don’t look 👀 at me or I will chip. At list. You should user backin all along the base. So you can glue your t all
John Rivera there are a number of reasons for MDF but one of the main ones is due to the desert climate. Its also a painted detail so wood or not, you really arent able to tell what the material is.
one of the worst designer / commerce / fabricated 'aspiration' driven elements in new home construction. Not practical, robust, maintainable, cost effective blah blah blah. if you see it on a set, double your price and make it hurt cuz if the framing isn't perfect, if you didn't have hangers butt strip every wall flat everywhere you will be buying a rich person's sad little brag about their boring corporate office park flush base.

Yup agreed I would use plywood
I was just thinking about that.
Pre paint before install?
I use pvc
densglass is a better choice.
The back cut on the base blew my mind! It makes so much sense!

I’m attempting this on my personal home. Thanks for the tips! Awesome video. Turned out great.
Love the screw shims. That's my favorite way to shim
great video. you helped me make an important decisions at a crucial point in my attic renovation project. much appreciated.
sick video, great info from finish carpenter
So much learning in 5 a mnt video. Thank you!
I really appreciate that
Incredible video. Amazing detail! Also, awesome work @elitecarpentryinc!
Gery Teague really appreciate that!

Brian Way thank you! I appreciate the support!!!
Excellent video! Good information, well explained, good balance of info and visual. Nice editing and production. Hope to see more from you!
Nice explanation. Thank you!
Exactly what i was looking for! Do you think there is enough of a gas to insert an LED light into the channel?

Great video Kiefer
BRO THAT JUST SO AMAZING
Wow, fantastic work! Thank you for sharing!
@0:03 - looks like a community college campus with a Star Bucks - opening soon!
I love the blue carpet
Jigs make life so much easy 👍👍👍
Is there a video showing the installation and finishing on the metal reglet? I’ve heard it’s a nightmare for the drywallers.
Great video!
Stunning work.. very inspiring.
Someone please help! I really like the flooring in this video, do anyone know what flooring that is?
Great video. just in time. I am doing this to my townhouse renovation. Then ceiling also gets a reglet.
Thanks.
Great video . Thank you.
Why not install the baseboard before the construction of the wall to begin with?
Not sure if I like the wood base or the cement board base (mudded over). I guess it depends on the room…
Who wrecked that corner?
What is the trim at the bottom of the drywall is made from? Aluminium?
I believe it's call Z Shadow bead
You mentioned MDF base board. WHY ?
Hungry landlords use that in nyc.
Stability in desert climate

Install Sheetrock, cut bottom, then z reveal (what you call metal piece is aluminium). After that you mud over the z reveal to conceal it.
Quality vid! Thank you
What about the holes from the nail gun left on the trim?
Ever heard of caulk?
Really cool dude👊🏽
I still don’t understand how to base was shimmed. Was it shimmed with screws or glue(?). And the reglet was shimmed too??
Shimmed with screws, and the glue is a buffer that also bonds.

Nice work, hope you develop your channel
Nice place for spiders to get in and out of walls. Or it’s gonna get caulked between aluminum and mdf??
What about outside walls with poly on them.
Most houses with the modern flush base would be entirely spray foamed, therefore not requiring poly.

HI, Do you need to remove the baseboards (I have flush baseboards), if we need to change the flooring ?
well, of course.
Money. Nice work!!
This has trended out already.
No it hasn’t
The KMan does it again
Wouldn't it be easier to leave the bottom 2 feet of drywall install after you put the baseboard and flooring in.
That's wild.
All that time spent will go to shit after a few mopping sessions. That MDF will be destroyed. Should have used wood.

Don’t get me wrong guys, you’re very good at what you do , but how come a fabulous mansion like that, uses MDF??? 🤔It’s just question!
flame. Mainly due to climate! Also the materials are spec’ed.
Yep my thought exactly would never use mdf...
Why use nails at all at this point since you used all of that glue? Just something else to fill and paint.

Your in a fabulous mansion and installing mdf ahahagagag that’s a oxymoron if I ever heard one bruv lol
Most stable material for a desert climate. Typical wood trim dries out and moves/cracks. Mdf is far more resistant to movement.
Lol MDF baseboard in a mansion wtf.
Exactly 😂 utterly priceless garbage
MDF if a mansion? The cheapest material in a multi million dollar home. Builders just don’t care anymore it’s really sad. I’m shocked by this..
🙂👍
Love everything except the use of MDF in this location.
Thats fair, not my call (or his either) but no issues from what i heard.
Million dollar mansion. Built with OSB. What the flying fuck.
Million dollar mansion. , is using MDF. WTF.
The corner is. Like pls don’t look 👀 at me or I will chip.
At list. You should user backin all along the base. So you can glue your t all
This is stupid. What is the point? So much more labor involved.
I prefer my normal 8 in baseboards in my old house. Would never change it.
Why would a home owner with a home that nice choose MDF🤦♂️🤦♂️
John Rivera there are a number of reasons for MDF but one of the main ones is due to the desert climate. Its also a painted detail so wood or not, you really arent able to tell what the material is.
@@Toolaholic Ya, as far as cost goes MDF is the way to go.
Also stability. Get a little cup in a pine board and your whole reveal is ruined.
True...True...
haha, using MDF for baseboards. epic fails.
Just looks like more work more money and really dosen't look that much better just saying
It definitely does look a lot better.
