@@AskDaddyjoe I also own an 08 standard. I bought it from new ten years ago. It's a fabulous guitar which is sounding better with age. It has been kept in it's case which has preserved it well. I hope you continue to enjoy your guitars.

Hello, belt buckles and buttons on shirts can scratch the back of the guitar for sure but don't you just hate when it happens LOL. Keep on playing and Thanks for Watching
If it's not to deep and just light surface damage you can take 1000 grit to start and very lightly sand until smooth, then use 2000 grit before polishing. Use Mequire's Scratch X and polish it out with a microfiber towel. After you get the area smooth and to it's original luster you can hit it with the spray wax. I just bought a 2021 Gibson Les Paul Standard 50s that had it and I took it out with that method. From all angles of light, you can't tell it was ever there 😉👍

Keeping them in the case isn't really going to protect them from humidity or ambient room temperature changes is it?
For me I just use a dry microfibre soft rag on my Les Paul because of nitro finish !
