So sorry that this took forever to get out to you guys! My grandma was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer & I took a bit of an unplanned break. Apologies if I am ever noticeably low energy in my videos - things are a bit touch and go at the moment. But I did reallllly enjoy this album & I think the only songs I have an urge to skip at the moment are the bottom 3 of my ranking. Side note - I was reading A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway the day after I listened to the album and my jaw dropped when I saw the line "you're my religion" in it - I adore literary Lana. Wishing you all health & happiness :)
just saw the notification and came here! I'm so sorry for what you and your family are going through. wishing you all so much love, health and patience
Honeymoon is deff somehow darker and more personal than ultraviolence. It’s kind of a fan joke, that Lana hates honeymoon but also weirdly loves it the most. She dedicated a whole Instagram account to it, which is the one she still uses now. With the bio saying “honeymoon is alive and breathing” But besides that she barely ever acknowledges it’s existence. I think honeymoon was the first time she made an album for herself. It wasn’t for us or for the label, but for her. I think Honeymoon, Blue Banisters & Ocean Blvd are probably the work that “Lizzy Grant” is the most proud of having out in the world. I think she ignores it most of the time because it’s so personal. The same way she kind of ignores blue banisters.
@@burnt.norton She also replied to someone last year saying what her favourite non-spoken word album of hers is ( cause she said her poetry album is ) she replied with " norman and Honeymoon :) " 😭
Fun little Lana trivia: during the bridge in High By The Beach she sings "Lights, camera, acción/I'll do it on my own". That's a direct reference to one of her unreleased songs, Put Me In a Movie, where she goes "Lights, camera, acción/You know I can't make it on my own".
I'm Italian and I LOVE salvatore! I think you can feel a lot of the atmosphere of the 40s and 50s. there are very romantic sounds that remind me of old Italian movies "cacciatore" is not a meal but means huntersman and in my opinion it is related to this sentence in the bridge "catch me if you can". curious is also the fact that "salvatore" is not only a name but also means savior
In honeymoon when she says “we both know it’s not fashionable to love me” I kinda get some “my reputation’s never been worse, so you must like me for me” vibes
I saw Lana in italy this year in the middle of summer and we made her sing Salvatore, best moment in my entire life and I will never forget it, my favourite song forever
terrence loves you is a song on the perspective of david bowie's brother (terrence)! that's why in the bridge she says "ground control to major tom" :)
I want to give sum more little facts cuz Terrence Loves You is literally one of my favorite songs. I started crying while watching the reaction... as a little Bowie fan and just music enjoyer in general, this song is so important to me. So Terrence had paranoid schizophrenia and brought David into jazz actually (adding to the chorus). Terry was in the Cane Hill Hospital (a psychiatric hospital), in 1982 he tried to end his life, he survived but ,,succeeded'' on January 16th 1985. There's so much to say and feel. I can't describe my love for this song (this whole album in general). ps. i wrote thaf for Cass, not to idk discredit u Jeni! :]
@@minehiner918 no problem!! i wanted to keep it simple since I'm really bad at explaining complex stuff but this is one of my favorites from lana!! i get emotional every time
@@minehiner918 also, correct me if im wrong, but wasn't lana's ex boyfriend barry also suffering from schizophrenia? that's why she calls out for bowie, cuz she feels connection
@@moreofveraWell, I actually don't know if he has schizophrenia, but if that song is not actually about Bowie and his brother, I'll lose all my happiness and hope for life. I just want to live in my delusion yk🥰🥰 Also, I just read that comment about the Ave Maria-Interlude, and it makes a lot of sense. So yea, my world is falling apart a bit right now, but I just- idk, I'll cry now ig☺️💞
in one of her firsts posts on Instagram she said that Terrence loves you and God knows I tried are her favorites, that Honeymoon is the most beautiful one and that Freak is very sexy
YES. By far her most cohesive with NFR coming in second. Ultraviolence & Honeymoon are my favorite albums of all time. UV for the nostalgia and because it was so fresh and different at the time of its release. Honeymoon for the pure art and cohesiveness. I’m so excited for you to get to Ocean Blvd. it’s like a perfect time capsule of all her eras, but better than ever.
Lana on Swan Song: The singer revealed that her Honeymoon track “Swan Song” gets her misty-eyed. “Put your white tennis shoes on and follow me / Why work so hard when you could just be free? / You got your moment now, you got your legacy / Let’s leave the world for the ones who change everything,” she sings in the opening verse of the 2015 song. “It’s the antithesis of hopefulness,” Del Rey told Michele. “It’s about trying to find beauty in giving up. If I had my way, I would continue to persist in all areas of my life, but it can be quite challenging because I can be too trusting too soon. The burn that can come from that really can incinerate your whole thinking life and your daily processes. At the end of every album, I say goodbye and thank you-very Old Hollywood style-and yet I cannot help but just continue to write.”
I think you’re exactly right when you said “she’s always a little delusional” and it’ll be interesting how that mindset slowly crumbles away throughout the next albums. In Lust For Life she’ll start talking about love and again this idealistic approach and then there’s a song where she’s like “you’re wasting my time, fuck it I’m out” and the rest of the album is songs about the state of the world and politics. Then starting with NFR! she’s very matter of fact and realistic about things that are happening and her relationships, even reminiscing how hopeful she used to be.
By the time you finish her latest album I'd definitely recommend listening to some of her unreleased work!! Not only cause they slap hard but there's some earlier references to released songs: -Tired of singing the blues -Flipside -Velvet crowbar -She's not me -Your girl -Pink champagne -Ave maria (interlude) -Jealous girl -You can be the boss -Hit it and run -Go go dancer Songs I'd recommend from her pre-Born to Die era album called "Lana Del Ray aka Lizzy Grant": -Smarty -Put me in a movie -Queen of the Gas Station -Yayo -Kill kill -For K Part 2
great list! Flipside isn't unreleased tho, and cass reacted to it in the UV deluxe tracks video. i'd personally add: - Fine China - The Good Life (Frank Sinatra cover) - Beautiful People (Demo) - Thunder [Mix 1] (*better* production than the released version) - Wayamaya - The Man I Love (it's actually a fan edit/version of one of her old demos that i forget the title of but it's so good) also Pawn Shop Blues is a *spectacular* track on AKA.
Terrence has actually been mentioned before in an unreleased song that was supoosed to be on Ultraviolence as an interlude, it was called "Ave Maria-Interlude". I suppose she answered her question in the song when she sings "Hey Terrence, do you love me? Do you want me?" and now on Honeymoon's "Terrence Loves You".
29:10 you’re 100% right, she was in the darkest period of her life during honeymoon, she can’t even stand performing some songs of it. The last we had in years was Salvatore in Italy some weeks ago
I'm sorry to hear about your grandma, take the time you need we will be here when you have the strength to upload the videos. You just uploaded the honeymoon reaction when I needed the most, thank you so much ❤ I will comment again with my thoughts about your reaction 😊
"Honeymoon" is Lana's heaviest and darkest album, and my favorite. About "Swang Song", the song talks about death and suicide, this whole album revolves around the feeling of death and the hopelessness of continuing. A curiosity in "Salvatore": "ice cream" can be read as "i scream".
Me watching this reaction is basically the way really *really* enthusiastic sports people get when their team scores I'm basically beating my chest like a chimpanzee and shouting happily everytime you like a song lmao. Favourite Lana album for me, the creepy/sad/angry/weirdly elegant vibes are off the charts. It came out while I was going through a breakup after a 7 year relationship and felt like I was gonna die so the irony of "Honeymoon" legitimately felt like a gift.
@@astridtheterrible we’re like the most equally dreamy yet grounded, emotional yet detached, and rough yet soft ppl in the entire LCU (lana cinematic universe)
This is honestly her best album, Honeymoon is fucking Art. It feels like a 50's Italian record, that oppressed housewives put on during summer while picking up citrus fruit and reminisce about their past lover who they left for a rich director or film actor.
Casssssssssss regardless of how big of a Lana stan I am, the only reason I watch the entirety of these videos is your really comfortable and relaxed and such friendly energy. usually commentaries get sooo boring but you are so enjoyable to watch idk why. maybe its cause when you talk its like talking to a friend on a very relaxed day. no jumpy excitement no over the top yelling, just casual chill and peacefully happy vibes :D so excited for the next album!!! sending truckloads of love!!
Honeymoon was the first Lana Del Rey I heard as a pre order and I was hooked, it was so impressive... her music was so incredible, I am over 60 now but people question my choices in music, and the more I listen to Lana I just love her journey... she is incredible, I am glad you have your album reaction here too ... this makes is fun for me too, thank you
hot take but in the lana 'cult', ultraviolence is definitely recognised as the darkest of her albums, which lyrically I agree with but sonically and thematically, i think honeymoon is the darkest.
FREAK IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE LANA SONG AND MY MOST LISTENED SONG ON SPOTIFY EVER, I THINK IT IS SO UNDERRATED SO SEEING YOU PICK IT AS YOUR SECOND FAVORITE HAS MADE ME SO HAPPY AHHHHH🩵🩵
Hope your family is ok during this difficult time! Salvatore is definitely loved by Italian fans; they requested that song during Lana’s Tuscany concert in July.
Religion is about a her music. she devotes the most penetrating words to her creation. So she sings, "it never was about the money or the drugs. For you there's only love." Indeed, for music there is only love, аnd Lana never wrote music for money, drugs and fame. and Lana bows before music, no matter how much she wants to - she will not be able to get away from music, this is her burden and legacy.
Lana was dating Francesco Corrozzini during the honeymoon era. He filmed the unofficial music video for the title track. Google them together and the photos along with that video will never leave your head anytime you listen to the album lol
when she said "When I'm down on my knees, you're how I pray" its really cool for me. she always playing with double meaning lyrics, and somehow i like how she expressed (it could reference to) sexual act that way. i love her😂
So for me, Swan Song isn't about all that, it's actually about wanting to give up her life and wanting someone to die with her. "You got your money now you got your legacy," i interpret as her speaking to herself, because now shes made it, in god knows i tried she said theres nothing to live for ever since she found her fame. "Why work so hard when you could just be free" when you're dead you don't have to worry about money or become tired. And wanting to give up her singing, for an artist I think there's a saying that that's their first death, when they lose their passion. Also diving into the blue, could be the way she wants to die, drowning in her favorite color and tone of song. "Say goodnight to the life and the world you knew" also hints the darkness of sleeping that's similar to death.
Just finished watching it :) i love how u interpreted her lyricism in the context of an album! honeymoon is a somewhat ponderous album that demands many listens to absorb some of its best songs(like THE BLACKEST DAY!!!! The production & delivery are so good that i never realized it was a 6-minute song) This is also a highly jazz-influenced album in contrast to the previous rock-based UV, and Lana said that her fav Song off Honeymoon was Terrence Loves You bc it was "jazzy". As You dive into her later works she plays with different genres. (Lfl is basically pop/trap, somewhat similar to bed and nfr is more of folk and rock influence) The topics of her albums change profoundly as well. The first three albums are mostly about her own story, The next two(lol & nfr) are where she tried to incorporate politics and culture into her artistry and her final three are her preparing to unload her family stories. Anyways I've always loved ur reaction!!! And best wishes for your grandmother ❤️
I'm so excited for Lust for Life!! It's a pretty underrated album in the fandom, but it's my absolute most favourite! The vibes are very 2017, very much sitting on the roof, looking at the night sky and the shining lights of the city. The first half represents the Lust and the second half represents the Life, which is why some feel it's a bit disjointed, but I feel like the production really ties them together. She named the album Lust for Life, because at this moment in her life, she wanted this to be a sort of full round moment from Born to Die [Born to DIE to Lust for LIFE] which I think is really nice. Songs to look out for, and which are loved by most of the fandom are: Cherry, White Mustang and Get Free. But I really love Groupie Love, and Coachella :D Honestly, this whole albums such a masterpiece. k thats it, love your content
About "Terrence Loves You": Terrence was David Bowie's half-brother. Unfortunately he had schizophrenia and spent much of his life in institutions. Eventually he committed suicide. David was really close to him and loved him very much while Terry first introduced David to jazz (hence the lyric: "But I still got jazz when I've got those blues"). Lana wrote this song from David's perspective. About "Art Deco": Lana has said that she wrote this song about young people and teenagers that frequently party. About "Salvatore": "Salvatore" means "savior" in Italian and "cacciatore" means "hunter". Also the lyric "soft ice cream" can also be heard as "soft I scream". Lana frequently likes to play with words 🥰 (she also did it in "Ultraviolence"! Where violins can also be heard as violence) About "24": Most of the fans think that Lana wrote this song for the twenty-fourth Bond movie "Spectre" (that's why this song has a Bond vibe). Nevertheless, Lana has rebuked this rumor, saying that no one approached her to write a Bond theme song. About "Swan Song": Let me tell you that fans PANICKED when they heard this song because they thought that Lana really meant it when she sang "I will never sing again". Fortunately, that wasn't the case. Also, in an interview Lana said that this song makes her cry. Because it has a sense of finality. I'm soo happy you loved this album! It is my favorite. Looking forward for you to react to Lust for Life! Many fans don't like it but its sound is more diverse. I know you're gonna love it! ❤️
@@laincoubert7236 Here's an excerpt from the NME magazine: “I would’ve done it if I was asked but I wasn’t asked,” she said. “I love all of the Bond music that’s been put out over the years and I love soundtracks in general. There are a couple of songs on this record that have a Bond feel like ‘24’ and ‘Swan Song’.”
@@nicoletalamprou oh i recall this quote, but it doesn't imply lana didn't on her side of things intend the track for 007. she wasn't asked but she was prepared! -- at least that's what my delusional mind settled on at the time 😂
Swan Song I think is the saddest Song lana has written. On the surface it may seem to be about one thing but actually is about commiting suicide and finding beauty in giving up. It’s the antithesis of hope. It s the darkest subject Lana has ever touched.
omg yes i see most ppl saying it’s about retiring but they don’t look past the surface level. i always thought that the “honeymoon” concept was a metaphor for eternal death and rest
Where would your honeymoon be if your first love passed away young? Swan Song always felt like Lana pleading with a lover to come back in her life and like she’s willing to give up on her career and possibly her life for her reunion with him in paradise where they can “just be free” and I think that’s a recurring comfort to Lana ever since her bf passed away and maybe a way that she finds strength to continue is by reminding herself that there’s someone right on the other side waiting for her and ultimately she will be free with him.
it could've been in the narrative of the album.. but lana has confirmed that swan song was literally by give up her career because of critics about your work
I love these videos!!!! I have to give you some credit, after your first Lana video I started getting back to her music after not listening to her properly in years after my initial hard core Lana phase haha. I hadn’t really listened to her newer albums but now I’m absolutely in love with so many of the songs and I need to thank you and these videos for sparking my love for her again
A lot of the context for "High by the beach" in its interpretation is present in its music video. It’s a dig at the paparazzi, the critics, audiences and media in general.
I like to say that btd, uv, and honeymoon are a trio. I feel like they tell a full on story. However, lust for life is like a fresh breath of air (she reinvents herself)and its the first time we see lana smile on the album cover.
This is her masterpiece in my opinion. Definitely darker and much more emotional than Ultraviolence. That album is incredible, but this album is transcendent. Music this good only comes along once in a lifetime.
For me, The Blackest Day comes full circle when you learn more about her and her life when you hear Fingertips (which in my opinion is her most heartbreaking, dark, and anxiety-inducing song) from her newest album. With every album she releases the more she opens up with us and shares what she says is not easy for her to talk about. The best song writer. I love these videos so much and how in depth you go! Im so excited to hear your thoughts on Lust for Life - it used to be my favorite lana album of all time. It truly can’t be compared to anything she’s done before and it’s FUN! 💙
The blackest day has been my top 1 since the first time I heard it. And I think it's about two relationships as well.. the verses kinda explains how broken/ depressed she was after her last relationship ended , then how she's looking for love in the wrong places suck as meaningless flings which could be this new boyfriend, and the bridge she explains she's just playing with this new guy as she's emotionally unavailable, because she's not over the past relationship. Probably my favourite bridge ever ❤
as an italian i LOVE salvatore, it makes me feel nostalgic about times ive never lived in some way and as you said it captures the italian dream so well. Also, cacciatore is not only a name for a meal but its mainly the name attributed to a hunter, but there is some confusion as maybe apple music didnt put the right lyrics and maybe lana said “ calciatore” which instead means soccer player 🫶 love ur videos btw!!
I love your reaction! About The Blackest Day meaning, quoting Genius '''The Blackest Day” takes us through Lana’s emotional whirlwind throughout a devastating breakup. She works through the five stages of grief - denial and isolation in the first verse, anger in the bridge, bargaining in the second verse, depression in the chorus, and acceptance in the outro.''
For me, the growth between Honeymoon, Lust for Life, and Norman Fucking Rockwell is an incredible evolution both emotionally and artistically for Lana. Excited to see that you have arrived to this point of her discography. Looking forward for what’s next
i've been waiting for this one!!!! this is my fav lana album!!!! also you're so lucky to experience it for the first time right now in the summer!!! this is such a hot, humid summer day album!!!
So, I discovered an almost perfectly brilliant transition between Burnt Norton and Swan Song! If you make a single playlist, with just Burnt Norton and Swan Song, and if you set your crossfade to 2 seconds, the two songs flow brilliantly into each other! 😭. It’s beyond words ❤
Totally agree, I think this album is just as dark as ultraviolence (if not more). I think the difference is sonically honeymoon sounds much lighter, but the themes are very deep when you listen to the actual lyrics
I hope that swan song grows on you, when I’m having a bad day it makes me feel more free when I’m not working and just listening to her voice telling me that that’s okay as I’m very focused on working overall and worry about it a lot. I hope it grows on you it’s so relaxing :)
I have such a strong admiration for her (like my favourite person on earth) so to hear her tell me it’s okay to relax do once and not care what people think is just so nice tbh. I love Lana del rey so much.
@@707_erin I really hope so too. Swan Song has been one of my favourites since first hearing it. I also used to listen to it when I was overwhelmed or stresses out about anything. Made me feel free or like I was floating.
okay i wish you would react to every album i love 😂 you're so good at reading into the lyrics and putting the story together, it's amazing! you've connected dots i never even knew existed despite listening to this album since it released! i love these videos/reactions soooo much!!!!
@@officialcassreacts i would be over the moon if you ever decided to dive into gabbie hanna’s music! her first two ep’s, 2WAYMIRROR and Bad Karma, and her first official album, Trauma Queen, are truly some of my favorite music to exist. trauma queen is one of my all time favorite albums 🖤 she has some absolute bangers like rewired, broken girls, butterflies, pillowcase, bad karma, i sold my soul, trouble, warning shots…. just to name a few 🤌🏻
This is definitely my favourite Lana album. It’s so beautiful sonically and cohesive. The songs could have different overall vibes and tones but they’re drawn together even by the little sounds present between them. Every detail feels so meticulous and thought-out and it’s a true world. It’s also like you said sadder than a more obvious dark album like Ultraviolence but written and played out in a way that I feel like encapsulates so many different feelings in one - bringing such beauty to the tragedy. The Blackest Day is the first Lana song I became obsessed with which really properly introduced me to her discography and it remains my favourite song amongst a lot of this album. Looking forward to seeing if you do any of the videos as Music to Watch Boys to is one of my favourites - so beautiful! Freak is also great for the underwater scenes alone 💙
I think in The Blackest Day she progresses through the breakup, at first trying to accept it, then denying it, then trying to convince herself she’s fine (“I got you where I want you”, “you’re deader than ever” - it’s his loss, not hers) and finally acceptance at the end.
i think something that comes up even more recently in her art is “Aaron” in Fingertips, it could be tied to this song somehow as it happened when she was younger, and only shows how impactful and tied together every art-piece lana has created, is
Cass, im so so so happy you could see the beauty of this album. This album changed my life, it talks with my soul. I literaly made a tattoo about it. You are such an angel, so deeply into this journey. Im so happy to be here. Also, i hope your grandma gets better, and you and your family can stay strong during such a hard time. Sending much love.
Honeymoon definitely feels like the most forgotten Lana album. Fans tend to talk about it less than most other albums, it's lacking in any massive fan favorite songs, and even Lana seems to have abandoned playing anything from it live over the years. It's a great album though. I particularly love Music to Watch Boys To and Terrence Loves You.
I appreciate that you read our comments and really take it in so much! I was so scared you wouldn’t get the freak art deco transition!! Thankful you did lol
i absolutely love how analytical you are and how you read SO deep into the lyrics. it’s amazing. i can’t wait for you to get to NFR and Ocean blv. Also other music as well, not just from lana :D
For me, this IS her last álbum of a trilogy born to die and paradise - ultraviolence - honeymoon are about the same, lust for Life IS an inflexión point on her discography and after that we have a new trilogy nfr- chemtrails- blue banisters and ocean
Honeymoon is so underappreciated. I know lately it's gotten its praise, but when it first released the consensus seemed to be that it wasn't all that. Freak, and Terrence Loves You are probably my top 2 favorite Lana songs, so I've always loved this record.
i look forward to your album reactions everytime! love hearing you analyze and notice every detail in the song, you never fail to point out parts i haven’t heard before. so excited for your reaction to the rest of her discography 🩶🩶
Fun fact about the promotion of this album is, when the cover was released ppl could actually call the number that is written on the truck and sometimes Lana herself answered. About my favourites from this album I would say for now it's Honeymoon, Terrence Loves You and Salvatore. You said the Honeymoon production reiminded you of Jaws xd but for me it's Sirens who allure erring sailors, like in the scene from Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
I’m so sorry about your grandma cass ☹️. I’m loving ur Lana reactions and I’m happy that I’ve found someone who maybe enjoys her music and working her songs out as much as me. Also lust for life is my second favourite album and I love get free in it sm. looking forward to ur reaction ahhh
This is my favorite album and I have been waiting for your response! I actually just checked if you posted it right around 12 so I was early by an hour 😢. I LOVE your interpretation of the music. I’ve been a listener since 2012 & some of the things you say make so much sense it amazes me that you go in blind and get it so right sometimes. I am sorry to hear about your grandmother, I am unfortunately going through something similar. I hope things get easier. Now I await your NFR and DYKTTATUOB the most (:
I highly recommend watching the Lust for Life album trailer before starting listening to Lust for Life. Lana released it before releasing the album. It doesn't have any snippets of songs, so no spoilers. It's just a little monologue and some visuals that really help immersing yourself into the album and will help you understand the cohesion/her intentions with that album too in my opinion! It's titled "Lana Del Rey - Lust For Life Album Trailer". It's only 2 minutes long. thanks for the great content always and I'm sending my best wishes to your family! :)
Not sure if you know by now, but the last song on the album Don't let me be misunderstood is actually a cover of a song by the Animals. Just a thought as to why it may feel out of place. Love your commentary :)
omg i knew you'd love this one girlie!!!!!!!! this one is probably my favorite lana album!!! and thank you for giving 'honeymoon' (the song) appreciation!!!! bc it's from my fav songs from lana and nobody seems to understand!
The birdge from "The blackest day" is the bestest bridge of all Lana's bridges, and "Why you work so hard when you could just be free?" is one of Lana's best line ever. Love this album.
Love your reaction!! Btw i think that the line from high by the beach 'lights, camera acción' is a refference to her unreleased song 'put me in a movie'. Can't wait for another video❤❤
oh you ate as always. i'll admit that i don't dig in THAT deep into the narratives of the LDR universe, so it's really cool to hear your input! i'm also really glad you loved this album on the first listen, it was the only thing keeping me sane as a teenager living abroad and alone for several months (my first time living in a warmer and coastal town as well so makes sense). sometimes i would play the title track on piano and cry-sing when that beautiful outro comes up.
I never thought of "cruise to the blues" as being about being in the ocean .. i only ever had the visual of "driving around listening to blues" i love your added interpretations. They're always so good !!
All throughout the album Lana's been playing head games and basically being crazy. I mean she used that word so many times in Ultraviolence so she wasn't lying lmao. But I do think the album takes a dark turn with her obsession with love once we get to Freak, and it gets stronger with Religion. I took Swan Song as like a literal invitation to suicide between Lana and her man as a means to escape fame (her being a singer, and him clearly being involved in illegal activities, remember his "bullet car" from the title track, the man clearly has enemies lol and then in the final song she comes to her senses and basically tells her man, and the listener to not misunderstand her. Great video btw😁 Lust For Life is divided into two parts by fans. The "Lust" side and the "Life" side. You'll know it when you listen to it :)
Thanks for the reaction. The second half is way more enjoyable. They are growers, and no matter how many times i listen to them, cant get tired of them. Cant get enough of them lol
'Burnt Norton' is an excerpt from Four Quarters, a poem by TS Eliot. If you care for poetry at all, I highly recommend it! There's a recording of it read by Alec Guinness (og Obi-Wan) here on YT. Eliot is considered probably the greatest poet of the 20th century. His poetry is the kind of thing you can spend a lifetime pondering, trying to unravel the meanings, but kudos for giving it a go here lol.
Terrence loves you is about David Bowies brother, Terrence (in the bridge where it goes “ground control to major Tom” is a line from David Bowies “space oddity”)
Please, im assuming you're already planning to but, please listen to every one of her albums im enjoying watching you go through them all for the first time so much :) Your commentary is very thoughtful
I love your reaction! Lana did this album after her relation with Francesco ended up. She really wanted some stability in her life and wanted to marry him, but he wasn't in the same "vibe", but a time after that he got married with another woman (this explains the lyrics of 24). That's why the album is called Honeymoon, and why Salvatore has a Italian reference. When she sings Music to watch boys to live, she changed the lyrics to "lies can buy a diamond ring". You really need to watch High by the beach and Freak music video to really understand what they're about! Fun fact is that Freak music video was supposed to be for Ultraviolence song, but they changed it last minute because it would be "too much". Btw, you'll see the relation with her lyrics in all her discography, for example "let there'll be light" with her last album. She's just brilliant!

Not an unreleased song. That’s a track from her first studio album "Lana Del Ray" which was released digitally but removed by Lana.

SAMEMW I SCREAMED

I'm Italian and I LOVE salvatore! I think you can feel a lot of the atmosphere of the 40s and 50s. there are very romantic sounds that remind me of old Italian movies
"cacciatore" is not a meal but means huntersman and in my opinion it is related to this sentence in the bridge "catch me if you can".
curious is also the fact that "salvatore" is not only a name but also means savior
In honeymoon when she says “we both know it’s not fashionable to love me” I kinda get some “my reputation’s never been worse, so you must like me for me” vibes
Yes omg
you nailed it
ahhh yess
YES! Thankyou so much for pointing it out!
It's giving me more vibe "I'm old soul, so it is not FASHIONABLE to love me"
I saw Lana in italy this year in the middle of summer and we made her sing Salvatore, best moment in my entire life and I will never forget it, my favourite song forever
I saw videos of that. Honeymoon is my favourite album and I am so jealous!
ero lì anche io!!!😭😭😭😭
Salvatore in Italy is such a combination
I was there too! It was the best moment of my life 🥹🙏🏻
terrence loves you is a song on the perspective of david bowie's brother (terrence)! that's why in the bridge she says "ground control to major tom" :)

Also, I just read that comment about the Ave Maria-Interlude, and it makes a lot of sense. So yea, my world is falling apart a bit right now, but I just- idk, I'll cry now ig☺️💞
OMG how did I not get that bowie reference, I literally know that song 😭😭
Honeymoon is so underrated. And lana said in an interview that Terrence loves you is her favourite song of the album
She’s also said that Swan Song is that one song of hers that makes her cry

I was quite worried about her state of mind when I heard the song. Thankfully, I guess I was was 'taking her sadness out of context'.
This is maybe my favorite Lana album and I feel like it’s quite underrated. The album was to be titled Music to Watch Boys To at one point.
Not only cause they slap hard but there's some earlier references to released songs:
-Tired of singing the blues
-Flipside
-Velvet crowbar
-She's not me
-Your girl
-Pink champagne
-Ave maria (interlude)
-Jealous girl
-You can be the boss
-Hit it and run
-Go go dancer
Songs I'd recommend from her pre-Born to Die era album called "Lana Del Ray aka Lizzy Grant":
-Smarty
-Put me in a movie
-Queen of the Gas Station
-Yayo
-Kill kill
-For K Part 2
Your recommendations are so good they are all my faves
great list! Flipside isn't unreleased tho, and cass reacted to it in the UV deluxe tracks video.
i'd personally add:
- Fine China
- The Good Life (Frank Sinatra cover)
- Beautiful People (Demo)
- Thunder [Mix 1] (*better* production than the released version)
- Wayamaya
- The Man I Love (it's actually a fan edit/version of one of her old demos that i forget the title of but it's so good)
also Pawn Shop Blues is a *spectacular* track on AKA.
@@laincoubert7236 omfg I completely forgot she reacted to Flipside lmfao, also love yours recs 💞💞
It came out while I was going through a breakup after a 7 year relationship and felt like I was gonna die so the irony of "Honeymoon" legitimately felt like a gift.
i love my fellow honeymoon stans we’re really like no other
@@burnt.norton we may be the endangered species of the lana cinematic universe but we're resilient and why? Because we have excellent taste lmao

Its her best album, her most conceptual and original as sound, the jazz trap space sound is original and amazing
Religion is one of the most underrated songs from Lana’s discography. Glad you appreciate it
it is not underrated
Actually, "don't let me be misunderstood", and "the other woman" from ultraviolence are a nina simone covers, lana loves her work!! Hope you read it!
Miss Art Deco is always so underappreciated, it would probably be one of my favorite songs ever
Very well put!!
The way you drank pretty much the exact same drink while listening to Freak as Lana does in the Freak music video gave me LIFE
Just finished watching it :) i love how u interpreted her lyricism in the context of an album! honeymoon is a somewhat ponderous album that demands many listens to absorb some of its best songs(like THE BLACKEST DAY!!!!
Where violins can also be heard as violence)
About "24": Most of the fans think that Lana wrote this song for the twenty-fourth Bond movie "Spectre" (that's why this song has a Bond vibe).
wait when did lana shut down the fan theory about 24? i feel like there's too many coincidences there 😭
@@laincoubert7236 Here's an excerpt from the NME magazine:
“I would’ve done it if I was asked but I wasn’t asked,” she said.

Lana now confirmed 24 is for Spectre! ❤❤
I'm so happy that you liked it, coz it's my favourite Lana's album. Honeymoon is so underrated 🥲❤️🔥
Swan Song always felt like Lana pleading with a lover to come back in her life and like she’s willing to give up on her career and possibly her life for her reunion with him in paradise where they can “just be free” and I think that’s a recurring comfort to Lana ever since her bf passed away and maybe a way that she finds strength to continue is by reminding herself that there’s someone right on the other side waiting for her and ultimately she will be free with him.
it could've been in the narrative of the album.. but lana has confirmed that swan song was literally by give up her career because of critics about your work
even through, it's really unhopeful
I love these videos!!!! I have to give you some credit, after your first Lana video I started getting back to her music after not listening to her properly in years after my initial hard core Lana phase haha. I hadn’t really listened to her newer albums but now I’m absolutely in love with so many of the songs and I need to thank you and these videos for sparking my love for her again
omg this is incredible to hear!!! happy you’re enjoying her music again!!
Only God knows how fast I clicked
I love your reaction! About The Blackest Day meaning, quoting Genius '''The Blackest Day” takes us through Lana’s emotional whirlwind throughout a devastating breakup. She works through the five stages of grief - denial and isolation in the first verse, anger in the bridge, bargaining in the second verse, depression in the chorus, and acceptance in the outro.''
Exactly!
Burnt Norton transition perfectly with Religion too
Totally agree, I think this album is just as dark as ultraviolence (if not more).

Honeymoon definitely feels like the most forgotten Lana album. Fans tend to talk about it less than most other albums, it's lacking in any massive fan favorite songs, and even Lana seems to have abandoned playing anything from it live over the years. It's only 2 minutes long.

oh you ate as always. i'll admit that i don't dig in THAT deep into the narratives of the LDR universe, so it's really cool to hear your input! i'm also really glad you loved this album on the first listen, it was the only thing keeping me sane as a teenager living abroad and alone for several months (my first time living in a warmer and coastal town as well so makes sense). sometimes i would play the title track on piano and cry-sing when that beautiful outro comes up.
I'VE BEEN CHECKING UR ACC EVERYDAY OMGGGGG
