I've seen multiple comments about Magneton's typing asking if I should've given it the Steel-typing too. I want the backport runs to be comparable with the regular Yellow runs. If I change the enemy Pokemon typings, then the runs are no longer comparable. So Magneton will remain a Mono-electric type when controlled by the game. Not mentioning this was a oversight by me, I'll include a message about it in the next video that has a backported type. Hint: it's going to be a Dark-type.

Perhaps someone has already asked or suggested this, but what are Scott's thoughts on running a Steel type Magneton for this series? Double the fun on the Champion's Sandslash!
Although now that I've thought about it, I suppose a future Magnezone backport will explore this well enough!
      Great work as always!

Fun fact, that type of color blending you called "cross-hatching" has its own name in pixel graphics. It's called dithering, and it was a common technique in early computer graphics.

I found you mistakenly, actually. A good while ago, I went to find RBY Challenge videos as I was really into his super minimal battles stuff at the time, and idk Scott. Your voice and his voice were similar enough to me at the time, auto play can be fickle like that for me, and you two do similar runs. I got confused when your runs ticked over into Mons I'd already seen on his channel, and I finally noticed I'd found a new solo channel. I'm glad he ticked me over to you eventually. You've become a staple channel for me, man. Here's to a long road of solo challenges ahead, Scott. You're awesome.

Lol, nice. The main differences are RBY Challenges makes a lot of jokes that he laughs at himself and he uses 0 dvs/ivs and Scott does max dvs/ivs. I love the diversity of players and rulesets there are in these communities. Scott and RBY Challenges make for a very well rounded pair if you have to pick just 2, I feel like

@@Chronoflation actually, I'm well aware now. Through watching them both in my off hours, I can clearly tell who is who. Let me tell you though, when you're new to the solo scene, at work with a phone in your pocket, and only using the runs as background noise to get through the day, they do sound very similar.
RBY is one of the funniest guys in my common YT rotation. Scott's undeniable enthusiasm and thirst for knowledge for this makes him so unique to this. Love em both. I too love that both of them offer such unique takes on this style of playing Pokemon.

Thanks for four years of amazing content. As with many, I got into watching Pokemon solo challenges through Jrose and, while I love his content (particularly his storytelling), it always niggled away in the back of my mind that multiple playthroughs would make the format far more meaningful. Eventually the algorithm pointed me in your direction and, while I still enjoy his content, your style very much feels like my comfortable challenge-run "home".
While I'm commenting, I do want to mention an idea that I had recently that you may or may find usable. I've finally been catching up on the streams from the beginning of the year, and heard you talking about the issues with the community race videoes and their prospects in the future even if the software issues such as Gamehook access can be resolved. I've loved the community races so far, especially Smeargle (the wide array of options it has to choose from making it perfect for a format where a lot of people try running it), so the idea that they may not return for a while saddens me. I'd also love to participate in one at some point.
So, pondering what you've said so far on the topic, I was wondering whether there might be a two-stage version of the process that keeps the best aspects while addressing the problems. Stage 1 entails you picking a Pokemon and game for the next race, and then just starting to run it yourself. This Stage goes for as long as you want it to - you're only competing with yourself to get the best time possible for that Pokemon in that game. The only catch is that you keep it a secret. You indulge your love of doing the same thing over and over in your spare time trying to give this Pokemon its best possible run. Eventually, you decide that you have the run of runs, the gold standard of what you can achieve.
Then, Stage 2 begins. In Stage 2, you announce the race much like how you have in the past. There's going to be a defined period, such as a single weekend. You distribute the software to let everyone get ready, but the Pokemon is kept under wraps. The difference this time around is that, when you announce the Pokemon, you also announce your time. That becomes the goal for the community to beat - can the community, working together in a single weekend (or other defined period of time), come up with one or more runs that are able to best your time? If they can, then there's still the race to be the person who submits the absolute best time.
This changes your participation so that you're not burning yourself out grinding hundreds of runs in an unreasonably short period of time, while still keeping you involved with running the Pokemon. It also gives you an interesting angle for your analysis in the video at the end of the process, reflecting on what the community found that you missed and vice versa. It does mean you don't get to participate in the collaboration to find the best strategy, but instead you get to observe it after the fact, comparing and contrasting what you learned during your attempts.
Of course, I'm just one voice on the internet, and you have to do what's right for you. Just wanted to share the idea in case it does in fact solve the main issues, or possibly causes a lightbulb moment for the development of an altogether different solution. Whatever decision you make, I'm probably going to keep watching the content you make because of the aforementioned reasons.

Congrats on the huge accomplishment, Scott!
One totally optional suggestion: if you backport in a type, like steel, I think it makes sense to bring it for all the Pokémon that should have it, like the magneton. In your first play through where you had psychic and thunderbolt, both would only have been not very effective, making it harder.
Still a great playthrough but something to consider if you do play throughs like how much better would jigglypuff/clefairy be jf they had the fairy type in gen 1.
Thank you again for 4 years of great content!

Happy 4 year anniversary scott, I remember finding you while i was looking for a video to play in the background while i studied for college exams. Luckily for me i found your gen 1 starter versus video. I was floored by your overlay and how in depth you went in your videos especially the multiple playthroughs. I became a member by accident too during one of your streams, but I decided to keep supporting your work because its one of the few videos/ streams I look forward to during the week. I know you enjoy it but thank you for giving us so much enjoyable and analytical content as well. Cheers to many more years ahead! .

Love the evil Magneton and Sandslash art. The future moves get much cooler in later gens, when they get BP boosts and actually apply their respective typings. I really like the flavor of them, especially Doom Desire being the most metal thing ever as has been mentioned.

Excellent Work! I’ve been considering Jirachi for a while now (and some other critters that really ought to have Future Sight) but I could tell Doom Desire was going to be quite a tricky one to implement so it’s been sat on my list 🦆 congrats on 4 years!

I'm not sure when I discovered your channel, but it was roughly a year before I moved to Japan in October 2021 on my old channel. I was obsessed with solo runs, and you just popped up in the sidebar as recommended, and I loved the format. I'm one of those guys who routinely would swap into bulbapedia for relevant info as I watched, so I'm a huge fan of the overlay. I can't overstate that enough 🤣

Interestingly enough, that checkerboard style graphics to get more colors (dithering), was used in many older games to create create gradients and more colors. It was specifically adopted for use with CRT displays due to the way the technology worked. Which is why many older games that were meant for a CRT have an extra pixelated and lower quality look to them that many of us don't remember when viewed on a modern display. We don't remember of course because we couldn't see it

now I'm curious how Manaphy would do. you'd probably need to give it Amnesia at level 1 because it has Tail Glow at the very beginning of its moveset even in Gen IV. which is definitely busted, but not having Amnesia there in Tail Glow's place would remove Manaphy's flavor. Manaphy was designed to be kind of busted with its easy access to Tail Glow. for level up moveset you'd go something like Amnesia, Bubble, Splash in place of Water Sport, Growl to replace Charm, Supersonic, Bubblebeam, Acid Armor, maybe Clamp in the place of Whirlpool, Recover in the place of Aqua Ring, and then put in Hydro Pump somewhere as its last level up move.
it gets Ice Beam, Blizzard, Psychic, Swift, Reflect, Surf, Flash.

In gen1 I've made all the sprites myself. In the gen2 backport streams I did use publicly available sprites that others had made. I personally find it really relaxing making the sprites, it's a good way to end my day after doing like 6 Seadra playthroughs...
