In Colorado, I found that using a couple of strong magnets off old speakers, one on the bottom of the input side of the sluice and then use another small one in the pan one to separate black magnetite, or we also use one in our wash bucket to grab iron. It really helps a lot. Reduces the amount of non gold material real easy. Using one to separate the fine black from the gold by rubbing it on the bottom of the plastic pan to pull the magnetic particles away from the gold.
I've now seen everyone of your videos and all I can say is great job Dan! I've been an amateur prospector for 25 years and I still learned a few things I didn't know from your videos. I really hope our paths cross one day. Jason, Abbotsford, BC
I use a sheet metal trough to funnel the sand/gravel as it exits the cube. It gets funneled into a second 5 gal. bucket in the water. Empty the bucket once in a while, and no problems with pump issues. I use it for beach mining on WA beaches. Nice looking gold!
@Dan Hurd I had an idea, you should put a piece of rubber matting on the exit where the tailings fall so that it quiets the machine. It would help save your ears. Awesome video
Nicely done Dan An easy way to keep the pump clean is to not only using a good filter screen but if you use two bins and either fix an over flow drain to it or when you do your set up see if you can set up the first bin to over flow into the second one containing the pump. I know you know this technique for setting up recirculating systems, this is just a simple bush craft type fix. Hope to talk soon.
A day on the Frazer with a few friends is a wonderful day indeed , by the looks of it . The only river out here in Ontario that is simular to the Frazer , is the Ottawa river , I'm not entirely sure how to research the gold history of Ottawa river . I was hoping you could educate me on the how's and where I would get any information concerning gold history in my Area . I have found Green Tourmaline and a few Flourite crystals in the area , so I'm going back up to the river this summer . Thank you for posting your new video , I've waited quite a while since your last video and I'm hoping to see more now that winter is on its way out . Best reguards from Lloyd , out east .
Do you check the spill pile with a metal detector before you leave? Use two tubs one to catch off the cube and let that spill water over to another with the pump slightly raised off the bottom, might help it to last longer.
Good Vids. I've just purchased a Trommel for my Gold Cube. Will I need to upscale my 12v Bilge Pump from the 1100GPH to something like a 2000GPH? And also, what's the benefit of recycling, or pumping from same container and catching material coming out (do you rework it)?
Hi Dan, great video! Try putting a intake screen (small mesh) over the pump then hang the pump 1/2 way or so from the bottom of the bin, this will keep your intake water cleaner. I had to do this with mine--good luck.

hey Dan, i'm still working my way through all your videos (starting with the oldest) and i just made it to here so far, so i'm not sure if you've done anything about the pump issue yet or not...but i figured i'd share a little trick that could help save your pumps from early death. when you recirculate like that, if you put the pump into its own smaller container (but somewhat tall, preferably near the top of the other container), which itself sits inside the discharge container (but out of the path of the falling material), the solids can't get in, but the water can still spill over the top of it, which will keep the pump from getting buried and keep it running for you....basically like a sump within a sump. you could pretty easily make your own "inner-sump" out of some larger diameter PVC pipe (4"+) with a cap attached onto the bottom of it, then cut the length so that it's just about 2" - 3" shorter than the top wall of the main container, which should work pretty well as long as you keep the water level up enough that it can flow over the top of the sump.
Nice Gold guys, now I want a trommel for my gold cube. I attached a plastic pop bottle to my bilge pump and it floats to a certain degree but it keeps it off the bottom....just an idea. Keep the vids coming.
My Mum and I just got a gold cube, any tips and tricks we live down in Oregon and are really excited to have some awesome adventures, we have been huge into rockhounding since I was a kid and are now just getting into gold prospecting! Awesome video!! I wanna try and make a trommel for ours!
Wow nice haul of course stuff behind that boulder Dan! I really wish I could talk my son into taking your course at MBSS. Poor Pete looked like he had a load and a half. I'd love to come out with you guys if you need an extra hand. :)
+Southpaws gold prospecting and adventures Battery should last all day on that. It was a big battery. We only ran for about 2 hours before we burned it out tho.
Thanks Dan. Oh man only two hours and and all that gold result. Do you need someone to help carry the battery ;-) I have a spare pump Lol. Your other videos in class are great I found them very useful in my search for the shiny stuff. Thank you Sir.
Hey Dan. I love this set up. I am going to be running this come spring. I am afraid of losing any nuggets I may come across so I'm probably going to spring for the Nugget Zone. Have you heard anything about them good or bad? Also they say if you run into flat gold then a 4th tray is a must for the cube but I've heard everyone say that even the 2nd tray barely ever sees any gold. Thanks buddy...keep er' golden.
How long does the water last before you have to refill? Looks like you’re losing a lot of water out the back. I live in desert and need every drop of water lol. Is there a better way?
Could you make video showing how you transport all your equipment? Ive got the same setup but getting my gold cube, battery, stand, pump etc to any decent spot requires hiking in a ways.
For a first time beginner (and hobby on the weekends) with a few acres of untouched river space in Georgia, USA - I have $1,500 I’d like to spend on equipment. What would you recommend?
Do you like the gold cube better than a high banker? I suppose you need to classify a lot more to use the gold cube, but with that trommel is there any advantage to a high banker over your setup in this vid?
+Jordan Carroll I can recirculate the cube easy. In this situation the highbanker would discharge into the river which is a no-no. I much prefer the Highbaker when I can use it.
Hi Dan. What high-banker do you suggest for a dingle man operation but still wants to shovel nonstop? Can you explain why you much prefer highbanker over gctrommel? Is gctrommel just slower less material processed? Thanks for all the great content.
Hey dan happy Monday I drove out to lilooet on Saturday the claim unfortunately is to far and not really suitable for my kids and grandkids as a family spot to bad I sure love that gravel bar if you have any decent producers around Princeton coalmont area or between yale and as far out as around lytton thanks keith and I'll look on kijiji is this the only place you advertise
+John Behmer We are not permitted to have water flow back into the river, if I pump fresh water from the river, it would overflow the catch bucket, or just flow back onto the ground and back I into the river. Which is a No-No.
I've been thinking of getting a cube in the next day or 2 I have a spot I'm finding flower gold in my sluice and was thinking I'd have better results with it I'm in north eastern pa around the glacier boundary what do you think
If I did my math correctly, three men with special equipment did a full day of heavy labor to get around one gram, $60 worth of gold at today’s price. That’s around $2.50 per hour, not counting the need to replace the pump that was destroyed, and not counting the effort required to actually sell the gold for cash and any other overhead like taxes. It would literally be more profitable to gather the river stones and sell those. I guess this is interesting from a historical larping perspective but as a business it looks like a devastating failure. To earn $15 per hour each would require finding 6 grams of gold in the day, again with no allowance for any cost or expenses, and a sustainable business taking home $15/hour would probably require double that output. That seems exceedingly unlikely to happen, especially at a sustained level.
Hey Dan it's keith I messaged you about the claim on fraser south lilooet for 1500 two cells I'm still interested extremely I just have to work on the wife if things work out I'll purchase before summer but if possible would like to meet at the claim to check it out maybe do some tests and maybe pick your brain a little seeing as I'm still fairly green only my second season but I got the fever
+Keith Powley Too bad, I just got back from a trip up there. We worked a claim above Lillooet, and one down by lytton. Had a blast for three days, and came out with some nice gold, including 3 nuggets. You are very welcome to go have a look and test the claim, I would recommend you do it in the next two weeks as the Fraser could start it's spring run-off and time now. I won't be back up that way again until after spring run-off.
That is some amazing gold. Definitely more like this please!

Dan, great video and it's 3 yrs old.
I still go back and watch it.
Have a great gold spring.
Thanks!
Thank you for sharing Dan. I was just looking at this and I am thinking of buying it...
Can't beat gold cube and trommel combo.Mike you're the best.Great day is right DAN ,I must get the trommel to complete my gold cube.
I love my trommel too! They're Great.
Wow, definitely going to be getting this
@Dan Hurd I had an idea, you should put a piece of rubber matting on the exit where the tailings fall so that it quiets the machine. It would help save your ears. Awesome video
That's really nice gold too considering the Frasier is known for its fine gold! Keep up the great work!
Nicely done Dan

+chris anderson I use the bin in bin system. Works great if you remember to empty the first bin in time. We just got over zealous with our feeding.
Very nice gold Dan, the gold cube does a nice job especially with that trommel.
Looks like a great set up Dan super excited to get mine this spring :)
Cool vid Dan. Really interested in the cube work.
great video!
Wish I could have been there with
My son looks like fun

nice gold Dan.ceep digging.
That's some really good gold, good score

Very nice gold thanks for showing it. How long will the battery last on that? Shame about the pump. Looked more than a gram though I hope it was.

Is that classified as mechanical requiring a permit?
Would love to see a pan like that..one day maybe
Do like your channel. A lot!❤
I think with that much gold, it might be time to quit the day job. Thanks for the video. I can't believe it hasn't had many views.

I thought that looked quite a nice pan yer your the gold man Dan and friends do it again
Hi! Could you balance the busket before showeling it out? )))
How long does the water last before you have to refill? Looks like you’re losing a lot of water out the back. I live in desert and need every drop of water lol. Is there a better way?
So you burned out the pump by what, . . . Too much dirt in the chute, thereby blocking the outflow?
Could you make video showing how you transport all your equipment? Ive got the same setup but getting my gold cube, battery, stand, pump etc to any decent spot requires hiking in a ways.
@DanHurd , get a lithium deep cycle battery, waaaaaay lighter 😎 faster recharge times. And you can charge as you use it with folding solar panels
Hey Dan love your videos I just bought a 4 stack gold cube I was wondering what mats your using 😀?
For a first time beginner (and hobby on the weekends) with a few acres of untouched river space in Georgia, USA - I have $1,500 I’d like to spend on equipment. What would you recommend?
Gotta watch your position to the T my dude .
Tailings on camera looked like nuggets in it. It's the camera focus.04:39 time on vid.
great reveal.Out of curiosity if you were to sell that claim what would its price be?
I think I sold it for $2500
How do you like the trommel setup? I have a Gold Cube and was thinking about adding a trommel.Looks like you had a great day with friends :)
Hi Dan, for a beginner would you recommend the cube or a high banker? To me the cube looks easier to set up.
High banker
Hey dan nice gold from the new tromel video on the fraser how far up where you it looked really mild and low water
+Keith Powley Lillooet area.
Is that the one for sale on kijiji
+Keith Powley Yes it is. Tenure #1040227
Hi Dan, which do you think is the better unit to buy, the trammel or the high (gold) banker?
Do you like the gold cube better than a high banker? I suppose you need to classify a lot more to use the gold cube, but with that trommel is there any advantage to a high banker over your setup in this vid?

Thanks dan
Cold cube allowed to use only on your claim ?
You always nsay the Fraser is known for its fine gold. Is there a reason we don't see you using this set up more often?
Good gold
looks like you need more snow on the mountians to help with water
Kind of curious why you just didn't put the pump in the freshwater
+John Behmer We are not permitted to have water flow back into the river, if I pump fresh water from the river, it would overflow the catch bucket, or just flow back onto the ground and back I into the river. Which is a No-No.

In my world on muddling about with a pan on a friend's claim, that looks like a lot of gold.
definitely interested just not in the position may get back to you on a long shot 😄
I've been thinking of getting a cube in the next day or 2 I have a spot I'm finding flower gold in my sluice and was thinking I'd have better results with it I'm in north eastern pa around the glacier boundary what do you think
I love the gold cube.
Hey dan it's the lil 3 that I'm interested in thanks keith
what size pump do i need how much does it need to pump? for a cube or normal sluice box
Hey dan keith here I was on your claim site online kanaka2 won't highlight to see pics and specs perhaps sold
Try carrying 1/2 full buckets instead of full buckets.. tyoull last longer
Dan is that not mechanical mining, it is mechanical equipment. Rules state sluice box and shovel with a pump.
Wow
Any garnets in the tailings pile ?
+michael therrien I have not seen anything that big here on the fraser.
Dan is this in canada
Where does one buy the gold cube tromel
Amazon
good boyo pete
Could you connect this to a sluice?
I I buy a claim from you, can I use a sluice at the claim? thanks.
Where do u buy the gold cube and trommel??
+nomercy3000 I got mine from ebay.
Ok thanks
They're now selling on Amazon too
im gonna say that gold cube works quite well if you have a good claim.
Lucky Lucky Lucky
Damn!!!!!!!!!
Carrying two 3 gallon buckets is much easier than one full 5
You need a super stacker from the rivers edge to feed the trammel. LOL.
The old timers would of dropped mercury in the gravity traps.

I bet you're just an absolute delight to have around for parties, holidays etc.
Only way most prospectors are getting rich is to sell their equipment. For most of us, It ain’t about how much it’s worth, it’s about the experience.
