hello Dan my name Willy i'm brazilian and i'm a fan here in brazil we have no conditions of material terms like yours or similar everything here is quite expensive i would like to know if you can make available the tromel construction plans and concentrating rail washing plant I thank you from the bottom of my heart my email is willyfonseca3@gmail.com my mobile phone +5521991197992.
As you are panning out the cons I was like WOW!! LOOK AT ALL THAT BLACK SAND!! I would have given anything to have had your course available in my school in my time...
Dan, this is so cool I can hardly express my gratitude to you for teaching the youth simple powerful principles. Great work. The kids are the real gold.
Just picturing you going in front of the school committee with the proposal for this class. Great way to teach future prospectors the correct way to mine gold as well as the laws surrounding mining.
I think it's really great the work your doing Mr Hurd I wish I'd had a teacher like you when I was in school. oh well your actually teaching us on your Utube site thanks Mr Hurd
thanks for sharing with all .watched almost all your videos taught this old rockhound about this micro blaster should have checked this out way before as I have been feather and wedging for thirty years
I would’ve loved to be in Dans class. That classic teacher just the head shake and look of disappointment at the kids doing something dumb 🤣🤣🤣 patience of a saint that man lol
great video damn I didn't know you were a teacher but that makes you more awesome! you must be in Canada because I've never seen a high school with the course of gold mining and prospecting
Love your videos. Its awesome there is someone out there teaching this stiff to the younger generation and also cool you get to go out with your family and share tgat with them. I am down in Washington and have multiple sluices/highbankers dredges and so on and wanted to know what you thoughts were on the le trap sluice. I currently am using it as a highbanker cause the gold im getting is all 1/8" minus seems to work well. Just curious though. Thanks for the awesome and informative vids!!
Hi Dan i think you should do demos using a bought bucket of dirt or salt it with some of your gold to find a few specs and little nuggets after all the work may be putting off a novice we know thats not how it is in the wild, i was also trying to see what was turning the trommel i would like to see one stripped down .under the noisy conditions it was a great video ,thank you,.
How you said the gold is red cuz its "coated in rust".what makes it do that iron or a alloy?just wondering cuz I'm wanting to learn about the gold from everywhere not just my neck of the woods
Galena is the primary ore of lead...so, yeah probably don't crush it up with a mortar and pestle. Cool trommel, looks efficient. I need one of those things.
The 'Franken Trommel' actually works! Lol! Practice lessons were always the best and most fun at school(ancient history for me). Dan, i can't help but wonder. The kid's must have all sorts of nicknames for you. Or would you rather not talk about it? Just teasing ya! :) I really DIG your vlog's!
What kind of school is this you teach at? Never seen a high school with a mining course. Seen location at the end of the video. Very cool, wish I had this course offered 25yrs ago when I was in school
+Axeman02 Usually I use a metal detector over the tailings pile. A 1/2" nugget would set off the detector from a long ways off. Unfortunately this did not work here at school. We found after the fact, that the asphalt I spread the tailing over, was loaded with metal. even with iron discrimination on I could not get a clean signal. After thinking about it, I realized they must have run many electrical conduits under that section.
+Dan Hurd dan i am interested in buying the pulse concentrator jig you mad i like how you mad it with the 3d printer is in for sal can you make me one kenk191@yahoo.com
This is off subject to your vid. But I need some help on step by step in how to stake my own cliam. Uv tried very hard to figure it out using the blm info and going to the county office but I just keep getting the run around. Can you tell me the very first thing I should do. I know what area I want to cliam but I not sure what to do now. The county tells me to contact blm. Blm tells me to start at county office. Plz help. :) thank you.
Yes, but no. Unless your are ultra careful and do it in stages, a magnet pulls a lot of gold with the black sands. Not that the gold is magnetic. Just that as the black sand is being pulled out it mechanically grabs some of the gold and takes it with it.
Way to go!! What a great way to ensure another generation of prospecting. Those boys have to have the gold bug now! They should watch in their free time on utube Bill Barlees' show. It's an excellent way to learn B.C. history, and I must confess gave me the bug 25 years ago. Keep it up teach
Your panning technique seemed very aggressive when you were down to the final stage but it looked like you were in a hurry for the students so I understood but your comment on rust being attached to the gold caught me off guard because gold does not rust. What’s up with that?
been watchin your vids, and you are doing some wonderful work with the kids, and the outdoor vids are awesome also, I gave ya a Sub, if ya get a chance plz return one, take care out there and stay safe
+Rob Aldridge Ya, but the old guy that taught me much of what I know complained when ever I pronounced it that way. He insisted it I was saying it wrong and it was pronounced more like the gun "rifle, and not like the sniffle riffle. He also companied I said adit wrong. He did have a bit of an accent so who knows.
+Dan Hurd if he was from Alabama, they pronounce both as RAFFLE... LOL, up your way, should be a-riffle-EH......LOL Merry Christmas n stay warm.... ;-)
+Dan Hurd Now you're going to have a whole class that will repeat the error and they'll say they learned it from you. The only difference is you're supposed to be a teacher not some old guy with a weird accent.

I would have loved to have a shop teacher like you. It would have made all the difference in school, having a teacher with passion for what they do
Just picturing you going in front of the school committee with the proposal for this class. Great way to teach future prospectors the correct way to mine gold as well as the laws surrounding mining.

+Digger Dave The plastic moulded sluices do a great job as long as you don't overload them.
Nice trommel, class must have loved to use that beast..nice gold..bet you wish you had a basin like that back home in the garage 👍
Thank you for the video Dan!

"Don't be that guy, Tom" ROFL I wish I had a class and a teacher like that.
Love it! just finished the hunt

How are you guys doing with all the rain and flooding??
The 'Franken Trommel' actually works! Lol! Practice lessons were always the best and most fun at school(ancient history for me).
Dan, i can't help but wonder. The kid's must have all sorts of nicknames for you. Or would you rather not talk about it? Just teasing ya! :) I really DIG your vlog's!
No nicknames that they'll tell me...

Niffty did you fabricate it be nice to gave after finding good gold pocket😁
How often do you use one of these or a highbanker compared to just a pan? Do you typically only pan when you are assessing a claim?
My friend you wouldnt happen to have a PDF or sumthin like that laying around of this build would ya?
Those kids arent remotely inerested. 😂 but they are soo lucky to have a class like this.
Good teacher.
Hey there Dan, are there any plans on how to build a trommel like that one?
Red
Imagine how much gold is still on the floor in your old classroom Dan!
what was weight of nuggets and then total? nice vid thanks
Dan do you let your students keep any gold,it would be a great start for the future prospectors
Of course!
One question, how do you catch nuggets with this? Or are the so rare it would be pointless making a nugget trap?
+Axeman02 Usually I use a metal detector over the tailings pile. A 1/2" nugget would set off the detector from a long ways off. Unfortunately this did not work here at school. We found after the fact, that the asphalt I spread the tailing over, was loaded with metal. even with iron discrimination on I could not get a clean signal. Hey Dan.Good course.Luck Mcbain.
Thanks.
It's 23 Jan 2020. Have any of your students become prospectors because of your class?
Awesome machine

Can't you get rid of the black sand using a big magnet?
Yes, but no. Unless your are ultra careful and do it in stages, a magnet pulls a lot of gold with the black sands. Not that the gold is magnetic. Just that as the black sand is being pulled out it mechanically grabs some of the gold and takes it with it.
how come this one wasn't a reverse helix trommel?
Hi Dan, would you mind making some and selling them. Am interested to buy one if possible.
Looks like someone needs a panning class!!!!!
Sadly, I can't use anything mechanical to move dirt into the sluice box in Alberta, or I'd make something like this.
At least a few of them won't spend their weekends and summer break glued to social media and video games.
Dan there is your source for good shovelers hahahha wear em out feed em and thier parents will love you haha
Don’t be that guy Tom! Lol
What turns Trommel ?
8 hp gas engine
Where's all the fine gold?
Probably ran out

Way to go!!

really like your videos, and the work your teaching those kids, BUT.... its NOT a gun (RIFLE) its a RIFFLE rif-ful, rhymes with SNIFFLE...... ;-)

AJ Alander
his accent is not weird to W.Canada
+Rob Aldridge
I live in BC. Nobody says "rifle" around here.

Surprise.
Trommel is the german word for drum
