Saw this last night. Never experienced a show like it. Loved the interactive elements. Pretty much the entire cast played an instrument at one time or another, and all had good voices (as you can tell from this video). Brilliant choreography and stage design. Would highly recommend. Echoing the other comments here, please release a dvd/cd!
I never thought a musical about Lord of the Rings would emotionally move me... but it has. The mix of Celtic/Irish music really fits within the world of Middle-Earth. I really hope I see this show if it ever tours one day.
I'm so glad you produced this play when you did, as I was lucky enough to have booked a weekend in London during that period. We found out about this play, made room to go see it and ended up being the highlight of that weekend! Samwise, you still owe me some Old Toby for my pipe!

I'm not generally a big musical theatre fan, but honestly this was one of the best stage productions I've ever seen. An incredible cast (accomplished musicians too - amazing), an incredible score, and an incredible vision bringing it to a small stage and making it utterly captivating. And in my view, faithful to Tolkien's work in a way that I didn't imagine possible. I wept in the closing scenes. Had it not been the third from last performance I would have gladly seen it again. Completely wonderful.
We went to see this show yesterday, and oh my goodness, never in my life have I been so utterly *enthralled* by piece of live theatre. We were lucky enough to have been able to secure front row seats, so we were able to absorb the performance in all its glory. I am by no means a professional theatre critic (I am just a very passionate fan), so I do apologise if I am incorrect in my usage of certain terminology, but there are just so many things about this show that blew me away, so I kindly ask you to indulge me for a moment or two. First of all, every cast member brought something special to their portrayals of our most beloved Tolkien characters; standout performances for me were Saruman and Gollum (that choreography was darn impressive!). The chemistry and camaraderie between our leads Frodo and Sam was also something to behold... The music/score in this show is what enraptured me most of all, and is still my favourite aspect of it in retrospect. Hearing the songs being played directly in front of us, especially ‘Now And For Always’ (it was so soft and tender and perfect), was beyond enchanting. It was so cool to see almost every member of the cast playing an instrument during each musical number; it was a true testament to their talent! Standout vocal performances for me were the Lady of Lórien herself and the elven choir. Simply gorgeous. The superb lighting and theatrical techniques also made this experience all the more immersive; the ethereal setting of Lothlórien and the battle scenes being some of my favourite sequences in the show for this very reason. It is evident to me that so much passion and enthusiasm went into the making of this production, and that resulted in it being one of the most epic, creative, lovingly crafted and profound pieces of theatre to have been produced in the last few years, at least in my opinion. it was a wonderful experience, and a memory that I will cherish for the rest of my life. I could not help but shed several tears throughout… Thank you so, so much, from the bottom of my heart, to everyone who was involved in the making of this production for reviving this much-beloved musical, and for bringing the magic of Middle-Earth to life once more. Bravo!
I can't get over how incredible this experience was, a core memory I will look back on fondly for the rest of my life! Very talented cast, Sam has an amazing voice, to reiterate what others are saying I would love to hear the full song and recorded soundtrack! Looking forward to more from the Watermill Theatre ❤
My bf and I are seeing this next week for his birthday and I'm so hyped! I've wanted to see LOTR on stage since I knew it existed. I've been obsessed with the songs from the musical for years and I cant wait to finally hear them live. This was perfect.
I saw this yesterday and it was totally wonderful in absolutely every possible respect. It's incredible that such a small (but insanely talented) cast and excellent production crew, were able to completely immersively tell the whole story. One of the best productions I've ever seen. Simply magical.
I would absolutely buy a cast album. I prefer the music from this production to the West End one. The music has a more intimate feel and works much better.
I really wonder how many of the views on this vid are just from me 😂😂 I can't fly across the Atlantic to see it in person, but I'm so thankful you guys put up my favorite song in the show (favorite song of all time actually)! I don't think I'll ever get tired of watching it 🥰

But It is amazing what I have read and the small amounts I have seen of it in photos on your site. I do hope you will release a album or even just the new score somewhere for sale once the production has finished. So those of us who cannot make it to your performance still can experience in a very small way the wonderful version you have created.
This show was absolutely incredible. So immersive with unbelievable performances. The talent on display with everyone singing and playing multiple instruments whilst acting was unlike anything I've ever experienced. I just want to say thank you for the experience, this will truly stick with me forever and congratulations to everyone involved. I was so impressed by everyone and in particular I was so impressed by Smeagol/Gollum. Not wanting to give too much away, the section with battling with himself whilst singing, rapping, being happym being evil whilst hanging from the wall all in the space of 3 minutes was next level. Thank you for an amazing experience :)
Beyond gorgeous. I'm from the US but I'm moving over to get my MFA from Royal Central, I will 100% be there to see this! Last outing before my Dad goes back to the US and I learn to survive in London!

This is certainly going to be playing during the final of "The One Ring" Table Top RPG I'm in. Gathering around a final fire near the black gates. Some of us, aged. At this point, many of our parties original characters would have passed away due to the passage of time. As the adventure takes place over 80 years, from right after Bilbo's adventures in Erebor.. to the battle at the black gate. Eredin (Me), Ranger of the North, nearing the end of his prime. right hand to the newly crowned King Aragorn II Elessar, husband of Rodwen(another player) , the Unbroken Elf maiden and great smith, conqueror of the dark. Athenir, the Lantern Maker of Mirkwood, veteran of the five armies. And the children of Ranhar Legendmaker the finest healer in the lands of free people, Farald The Bulwark of Dale, builder of bridges and merchant of hope, and Wilfred the Mad Swan Knight and favored of Beorn. Remembering the old days, the good, the bad, but all of them precious. We may not have been the one to slay the witch king, nor did we bear the ring to it's final end. But we held back the shadows in our own ways. In between the lines of The Lord Of The Rings. In the shadows of Angmar, and the darkened shade of the Mirkwood. In the ruins of Eriador, and the fields of Gondor. In the place were shadows thrive, we walked, hands a light with lanterns. The Company of Lantern Light, a family born of kinship. Now and For Always.
It sounds like it would be wonderful to see and hear. But, I am currently living in Kentucky, so I can't get there to see/hear the performance at this time.
I love this! I'm confused on one thing - is this song original to this production, or is this part of the 2008 Lord of the Rings musical? Or are all of the songs for this production adaptations of that shows music? This is not a question of judgement, it is just me trying to clarify my own confusion.
