- Fixing BROKEN Special Edition Nintendo 3DS's - Part 2 - I fixed the first 5 Nintendo handhelds in part 1 and now I'm back to try to fix the rest. Issues include liquid damage, ribbon cable damage, screens not turning on, and game slot damage. Plus I'll give you a break down of the potential profit I can make on the ones I repaired.

That ribbon cable repair was magical. Like seriously, an insane amount of precision. Are you sure you weren’t a surgeon in a past life?
Lol, I'm positive of that. Like I said in the video that's the first time I've been successful with that repair. I've tried it once or twice in the past and just gave up. I think I just had more patience the day I did this repair.
@@Tronicsfix I bet your coffee for the day had worn off and you had steadier hands. Incredible job!
Man, +10000 precision skills
They make really thin copper strips for trace repairs like that. Crazy how small some of these repairs can get though with the use of a scope.
That must have taken laser focus. Seriously amazing that you could fix a ribbon cable. @Tronicsfix
Was so sad when you said you weren’t gonna do the ribbon cable fix-then you went ahead and did it. Incredible to watch. I’d breathe too hard and ruin the whole thing.
Ha, ha, glad you enjoyed that part. I was definitely breathing shallow while doing that repair.
I thought those things would melt.
I know I’m late on this but, I used to watch your videos all the time. I had stopped watching due to having kids and life just being crazy. However the other day one of your videos came up on my Facebook page. So I watched it. While watching the video I realized that you were looking a little bit differently than I remembered. Then it came to me that you looked how my mother-in-law looked when she was going through her treatment. Well today another video came up and I watched it. I noticed in that video you were looking much better. So I googled what would cause your appearance change. Then I stumbled across your own post about your battle with cancer and getting treatments. And I was super happy to read that you completed your treatment and were in remission. You’re an incredible person for one going through that and to also share your story along the way. Some people may not understand how someone going through the same process can see that and find hope. So thank you for sharing your story. It hit on a personal level with me having being there for my mother-in-law and my wife. For you to remain stronger and make it through and to also remain posting content is a super encouraging thing. I wish you nothing but the absolute best for you and your family moving forward. Thank you.
That ribbon cable repair at 6:50 was insane, that has to be one of the best repairs you've done on this channel. Thank you for fixing these!
If that’s the easy option it Just shows how difficult replacing the top actually is.
Hey man I'm glad to see you're doing better!
@@bravefastrabbit770 yeah i haven't watched him for a while, happy to see him healthy right here
I wasn’t aware why it was so hyped in the comment sections regarding the cable repair but golly getting to that part and seeing it done meticulously, a work of magic…
Man Steve, that ribbon cable repair tho. You're a beast man!
I've been waiting patiently since part 1! 3DS Consoles Rule!
I pretty much always enjoy working on these. Except for top screen repairs. Those are still not my favorite, lol
@Tronicsfix haha same man, one 3DS XL Top screen and frame took me 4 hours and two top screens later 😂💀
"I don't expect this to work, but we'll try it anyway"
you and me both: WTF it worked? LMAO
Lol
The ribbon cable fix blew my mind, good job!
It hurts so much seeing the zelda ds i sold 😢. Glad to see your doing better man your videos are awesome
Sometimes the liquid damage stickers change colour when you live in a humid country. I recently did a repair for a friend in Spain, and the unit never had seen liquid. Inside was pristine, but all the stickers had changed colour.
One thing I learned about the new 3ds is that disconnecting the camera cable can un-brick a system. It’s weird. Good work my guy, keep it up!
Hey dude although you're a great technician/ youtuber I don't follow you but was aware about your recent health struggle. I'm so glad and happy to see you recover and looking healthy again! Absolutely amazing recovery and hope the best to you. You're an amazing tech and UA-camr! Keep on going strong my guy!! 🙏🙏🙏
that was my zelda 2ds, and yeah, i think i went to remove the volume slider and forgot to disconnect the battery.
oh damn, sorry i replayed the part where he said they were doing the slider and yeah it might wellve been yours and i misheard him the first time.. sorry
Rip lol. That’s good it got a second life though!
I don't know how you can have such a steady hand, and that precision! And a whole lot of patience. I feel like i would give up right away and do a tantrum. Great job on that ribbon cable
Maybe I did have a tantrum. I choose what I show, lol
Steve should have been a surgeon.
@@Tronicsfix Hahaha, it all makes sense now
That ribbon cable repair was so impressive and repairing it is always worth more than replacing the whole screen
Ive never had a channel make me wanna do something as much as yours. I watch every video. Sweet channel.
I usually just watch videos and don't comment or even read the video's description, but I'm really glad to see that you're apparently beating cancer my dude. Kudos.
That custom firmware was something else. Feels like mid aughties Linux launchers.
Yeah that Zelda 3DS definitely had CFW.
CFW and the PSP joystick for C Stick Nub mod, someone had a solid setup
Not going to lie I've been waiting for part 2 of this. I just reshelled a dual ips New 3DS LL last night and certainly wish I would have just spent the extra cash on a better condition one. Between replacement shell quality and the ribbon cables snaking through the hinge I thought I was going to lose it. Much respect for sharing these videos with the community.
21:02 maybe taking a look under a thermal camera might show you some hints? I know it isn't shorted so there wouldn't be much to see, but might be worth checking out before giving up on it
Well done on fixing all of the 3DS's especially the thin wire repair, love your little Spyderco knife for box opening.💯👌🏻✌🏻
I know a ton of people commented on it, but that ribbon cable repair was impressive!
It makes me so happy beyond comprehension that you are looking so well now. 😢
Omg princess Midna in true form screen saver!! This Zelda one would be a dream! Such nice Hyrule edition
That pikachu 3DS is one I need to save up for the Pokémon collection. You've done a great job Steve! As always. Your also looking great as well!
man of culture owned number 12
I just fixed a DSiXL Bordeaux Red that I had bought in March and totally forgotten about. The bottom screen wasn't working (at all, bottom screen didn't turn on) and for some reason the seller had added three new digitizers. Opened it up, put the ribbon cable for the bottom screen back in, works perfectly. It's missing one of it's rubber feet, otherwise it's in very nice condition. Still don't know what I'm going to do with the three digitizers.
Also unpacked another DSiXL Bordeaux Red that I had bought around the same time, but this one is pretty much dead. The water indicator is pink-ish, but I don't see any water damage on the board itself. The case is pretty much ready for the recycling bag, it's broken in multiple places. I won't bother with the screens, the ribbon cables for the upper screen are torn anyways (half of the cable was still attached to the board, the screen itself wasn't). It also came with a bag of parts, rubbers (sadly not the rubber feet) and screws, and for some reason a lone coil, that was marked "01". I suppose it was knocked off the board, but I can't find where. I've looked at multiple photos I found online, but I can't find any missing components on my board and I also can't find any place where it should go on the board. I found a coil on the board that's marked "02", so I guess the "01" should go somewhere, but no idea where. The charging port on the board is also shot. If I ever get another defective one with a dead board I might get the charging port from that board and check if this board still works, but I won't bet on it.
Ribbon cable repair was amazing! TronicsFix is the GOAT
I'm happy to see that you're healthier and doing alot better now!
I think the Nintendo fixes are probably my favourite to watch. They're all so nice and colourful and the electronics are still fixable. They always make me think I should buy one! (a working one ;) )
Thank you for putting more of these systems out there! Keep up the great work!
That's ribbon repair was an amazing job, I usually do some soldering with cheap headphones coil wire.
amazing video again. im so impressed on that work u did with the ribbon cable. wow.. i wouldn't be able to do that myself! good job!
That ribbon cable work with that tiny cable was actually impressive
it's really weird for me to see the screens in a bad condition, that was common in old days but at least here in Brazil, whenever we buy something, the first thing we do is to put a screen protector, anyway good to se you in good health, i LOVE YOU CHANNEL and it help me a lot to learn about eletronics
I just love your videos. Plain, love em. Not cos i do repair or smth, they just have this therapeutic vibe. 👏☺
I love watching your videos, and I'm so sorry I wasn't subbed before, but I definitely am now! When you were leading up to the Pikachu 3DS XL I kept saying to myself 'oh no, I hope it's not a Pikachu one...' and lo and behold lol.
I managed to pre-order one of those Pikachu 3DS XLs, and I guess all the owners of these babies definitely made sure to keep those plates in tip top shape, it's too beautiful not to.
I've seen 2 channels use trace repair kits. It's basically a trace that you can attach and trim as needed. I've seen it used to repair high end geforce 4090's and even SSDs. You could do something like that on this ribbon cable. It would be super thin.
don't get me wrong, that was madly impressive, but I think the trace repair kit option would be more likely to work in the future.
Looking good Steve! Been watching for years and love your vids. Stay healthy!
Ribbon cable fix - pure art
That ribbon cable repair was so satisfying I have one ds lite with a small rip on the top screen ribbon cable and I really want to fix it like that as well, but I do not have a microscope, it would be a nightmare
These longer format videos just hit the spot for me!
That ribbon cable was insane, i cant believe you nailed that lol. Bet it felt amazing
Keep up with the awesome content Steve! I watch them every Friday!
So happy to see you got better man
Learning how to solder a ribbon cable is a good skill to have. I fixed my Ricoh GR II and I camera using jumper wire.
Really loves the # 7 repair you should try more often when possible!!
Number 7 was a crazy fix! good stuff man!
Nice job on that ribbon cable! I remember trying to fix connectors like that on a membrane keyboard before... Let me tell you, even with specialised conductive paint to replace those kinds of things, it's some job (paint was my only option as the traces were conductive filament). I sat there with a tooth pick for a good 4 hours while it dried carefully picking out bridges, unfortunately, the keyboard was toast, it still didn't register specific keys along the trace's path.
That Hyrule Edition is awesome. I have one I bought on eBay 4 years ago for $120. It’s like new. Love it.
Well done on the ribbon cable repair, was well worth the risk. ❤
For extremely small trace repairs, like the one on that DS screen ribbon cable, I've actually just teased out a single strand of wire from solder wick and used that. But excellent fix! The Zelda New 3DS looks like it may have been hacked. I saw SNES9X on it, which is an SNES emulator.
I want your entire channel to become New3DSXL repairs😂 these videos were such a joy to watch, and makes me treasure my new3dsxl, gonna keep it extra minty in your honor
You're looking and sounding great!
Steve once again showing he is amazing by fixing that ribbon cable.
You are a magician! Thank you for being there
Wow wow 😊more fix part 2???
Hope you enjoy!
Motherboard i think will be fix not much damge think reball chip there or replace some where.
Your repair technique is amazing keep it up!
Hi there, ever thought about an ultrasonic cleaner? I've managed to save quite a lot of water damaged PCBs with it and isopropyl alcohol. Have a look on some UA-cam shorts/videos. That way you can clean all the hard to reach spots or even flux after a reflow. And as always, thumbs up for your video 👍
Some of those repairs are voodoo magic
Ha, ha, there were some difficult ones for sure!
I can't imagine what the number 11 previous owner is going to feel when he see the easy fix on that one.
He does revive them from the dead so they are ...
When every comment is talking about the ribbon cable repair, well i just have to watch and see now!
that ribbon cable repair was crazy
You should do another big videos for Nintendo game cartridges again or maybe a bunch of special edition controllers. Love these big collection videos
Damn bro, that Zelda 3ds looks amazing.
Ohh yeah. I wish I had the money and skills to really dive in to repairs like this. Until then, I just refurbish controllers. Much lower stakes there. Thanks for another video!
That's a great place to start. Once you start getting bored with it and have some extra money maybe you can start buying some of these to try to fix.
This video has "the perfect amount of ribbon repair"
It’s so glad your made it through chemo congratulations brother great video
I just had to fix the fact that i was only subscribed to your other channel. I deeply apologize to your awesomeness 😛
Lol, how dare you! Luckily you apologized
3:18 - Just throwing this out there. I've done it before and it worked. Set your electric oven to the lowest setting and put the screen in as it preheats. Then take it out after about 5 minutes. If there's any water still in there, it'll dry out.
Nice this showed up just as I’m on my break at work 👍🏼
Perfect! Gotta be careful about having a job. It really cuts into your free time, lol
@@Tronicsfix hahaha ain’t that the truth 😆
Looking alot healthier 🎉
I really like the 3ds fix vídeos. Almost make me believe i could buy a broken one and fix It.
Love these! informative and helps pass the down time at work!
Those easy fixes were your retribution after the hard ones I swear that’s nuts
you're looking good buddy, keep it up
Well done Steve, you are the 3ds maestro 😁
thank you for educating us more into the tech world
That PMIC is not working (most likely the liquid damage got under the chip and corroded the solder balls connections)
What you could do though, is take some voltage measurements (console is turned on) and the resistance to ground of each inductor coils (console is turned off, battery is removed) on the working board that you swapped in, for future references, so that the next time you come across the same type of console and it's also not working, you know exactly what to look for when you open it up.
I wish i had that sort of luck with my electronics.. hahaha just a few ribbon cables lol man that's too funny
I was actually pretty lucky with this lot
Sometimes ebay is funny, especially when the sellers have no idea what they're selling or just don't care. I got an Xbox 360 Slim two days ago that had a really wonky description and bad photos. It was sold as defective, PSU having a red light, with two controllers, one of which was supposed to be a chrome red one. That one was missing from the photos and also spelled really off. It was 20 Euros + 7 Euros shipping (30ish USD or something like that), so I bought it, just for the chrome edition controller alone. And it indeed came with an original Chrome Red controller in pretty decent shape. Both controllers also had batteries in them, all with a best before-date of 2020, luckily they hadn't leaked yet. The console turned on with another PSU, the PSU was indeed defective, but the console itself acted kinda weird during it's first boot up. And when I booted it up for the second time, I understood why, when I got greeted by the Freestyle 3 logo. I had wanted to get a RGH Xbox 360 for some time now, so I was super happy to get one for that price.
I have a browser tab open with ebay listings for defective consoles and buy it now options, sorted by newest added and I check it every now and then. Made some really good bargains that way, really easy fixes or consoles with games that were worth way more than what the seller was asking.
That Midna Background was nice.
Was that thing homebrewed? Seemed like a lot of extra stuff on it that isn’t normally there.
Epic ribbon repair Steve!
I remember doing a ribbon cable repair on a switch backlight connector - it was a pain but got it going
I just want to say. I am new here but i bought the bw 100 with your link because i have 2 xbox one controllers both had stick drift. Fixed the older one surprisingly but i think the one that came with my series x was bad from factory as it got stick drift just out of warranty. Bw100 did make it a little better but it keeps uncontrollably scrolling lol
Hey, the real part 2 is here. Cheers.
there was a fake part 2?
To light up the game slots get a small like a small wide spread led you can sticka down along one of the edges and power with a adjustable power supply or battery or something.
Love that art Pikachu 3ds, i still use mine :D
I had fun watching you repairing, also I have learned a lot

Minus 15 percent for eBay fees, minus 28 percent for income taxes (can't duck them anymore because eBay reports to IRS), and minus your time. You probably will make more off the ad revenue for this video in the long run. 😅
My advice for the ribbon cables is to use more kapton tape to hold the cable down and to cover the rest of the pins from getting residual solder. Works pretty well. I don't like reworking ribbon cables but sometimes you don't have another choice.
Great video lad keep up the good work 👍👍
@bitcoinbull6564 I'm being polite
Some people just know it's gonna be good, lol!
@Tronicsfix agree
24:25 "Some people swear it will' ... Welcome to the club :P
Great work whit 7th console! You are a surgeon 😲
Amazing job on the ribbon
Awesome Repairs and Video! Thank you.
a little help for you ; Waterdamage from sweet Liquid ( Cola ) clean first with destilated Water and after that ISO Propanol . Your Damage here seems to be Water like the green Stuff corroded coming out . ISO Propanol doesnt clean sweet liquid !.
I love your mini spyderco knife
Love the gaming repair videos. 👍
That ribbon cable repair is so difficult 😮
