Anyone who thinks he paid him out of honor isn't a businessman. He paid him because if he hadn't, he would clear out his poker joint faster than the cops ever could. If people realize there's no winning at Teddy's, only losing, they are gone. Teddy paid him because it would cost more money not to.
Must disagree. I think the Mad Russian sees him as having equal poker skills. When Teddy was asked “Why don’t you take it back? He replied “Not tonight” Teddy had honor. Nobody will be able to convince me otherwise. Such a great scene. Malkovich, such a master of his craft. Brilliant.

Wait, I originally thought Mike was playing against a time limit (morning). But then again, KGB said explicitly that they can't stop until one of them has it all.
Eh, you can see some tired guys get a little cocky and blunder, but generally, you are right, they would not tickle in that manner unless there's more players in the pot
The only thing about this scene that confused me was that Teddy seemed like he would get more satisfaction out of killing Mike than collecting the money Mike owed. In Teddy’s shoes, I would much rather collect a bunch of money than endanger myself by killing Mike and risking getting caught for his murder.
I doubt anyone connected to the movie ever thought that " pay him, pay that man his money" would become one of the most repeated lines from any movie ever.
After watching this movie no less than 75 times, my only question is how the fuck did mike or nobody else ever spot the cookie tell before the final heads up game?
Nothing to do with honor. It's business. He's running a gambling club. If word got around that he doesn't pay people that beat him fair and square, his business would be done.
No. Because Mike already had the money to pay him off after the first match plus keep a little. KGB goaded him into a rematch to try and win it all back away from him., essentially putting what Mike owed them up for grabs. Mike won it all. So Gramma and KGB got nothing. KGB basically paid Mike off with the money Mike paid Gramma. I suppose Gramma could try and get it from KGB after, but I doubt it.
They cut the line when mike discovers his tell but mike says, " i discovered his tell, ordinarilly i would let him go on eating cookies all night long but i dont have time". Don,t have time!? U discover his tell but u dont have time? I never understood this part.
Because with the short amount of time he had to win back what he owed, it worked better to have KGB rattled (on tilt) than to think that Mike "just got lucky" on a big hand. In an extended session (20+ hours) it's a different story.
Instead of using the tell in a more opportune time later in the night he gave up the fact that he knew his tell with an obvious head scratcher of a call.
Mike only had til morning, as he said ynder normal circumstances hed probably sit at that table for days chipping away at KGB stack with the tell on his oreos But he didnt have the time
The cookie thing bothered me a lot. Matt’s character even takes about all the easy tells he could find, some that are subconscious. I’m sure an obvious one like that would be noticed by any good player
I think it was exaggerated on purpose for non-serious poker players to pick up on it. If not then I agree, that man would never win a single hand in his life with that obvious of a tell xD
In poker there’s not many tells, it’s not really a thing. Maybe back in the day or something, but in general most people don’t do anything like that as far as “tells” go
