Thumbs up for the authentic looking playing cards used those days.
Wow.
Wait what?! lmaoooooo
He beat me.... straight up, pay that man, pay him his money
Great comment wrong movie!!! : )
@@HaulingAsh it applies in more situations than one.was the overall point that should be taken away from my original comment, just didnt want to have to go into such great detail to fill in the tiny fraction of people who couldn't figure it out.

@@tonynelligan1930 it kind of applied here too, was the overall point I was making, a gentleman loses and with winning come the spoils.
He deserves the utmost courtesy,it goes with winning, stone class, helluva movie, sportsmanship has nothing to do with winning or losing, just fair play, like he said another time
Colonel Decker was alot more graceful in losing in a game of poker, than in getting defeated repeatedly by the A-Team
Which is why he was forced to go after the A-Team😉
Mr. Stobridge: It's my money.
Hawks: Nope, it's my money. ❤️❤️❤️
Of all the poker movies I have seen, I like this one the best. The opponents have respect for each other and don't gloat over their winning. A good clip thank you.
Yup. Not like real life at all.

I think that Lance was an underrated actor. I loved him as Col. Decker.
He was good on Werewolf as Alamo Joe who was trying to catch, John J. York, the Werewolf, while the Werewolf was trying to cure himself of his curse.
@@55Quirll He was also in the 1978 Battlestar Galactica as one of the 3 alien prisoners that broke out and rescued Baltar.
@@jasonbourneistreadstone Correct, a Borellian Nomen, who were supposed to be great warriors. Makes one wonder how the Cylons beat them. 👍
I was told he invested that pot in the first roasted chicken franchise
And Stobridge forced Col. Decker to go after The A-Team
Yeah, just ask Karamer...Cosmo Kramer
It’s the wood that makes it good!!! 😂😂😂
kenny Rodgers roasters
I remember seeing one
Are Kenny Rogers restaurants still around? In Canada, I know they closed most of them. They were great. I miss them.
You don't know what it's like in there, all night long things are creaking and cracking, and that red light is burning my brain!
After a failed life of cards, doc went on to try to catch the A Team...another failed endeavor
in all fairness he did double for The King.....
I see your shinebox and raise you shineboxes
I have a reprint of that exact deck of cards! Highlanders 1864 Poker Deck, absolutely recommend picking it up. You'll feel like you're living in this scene lol
Good players act this way with each other. Best lesson of all
It has been soooo long since I've seen this movie, that I just realized, when I saw the 'thumbnail', that Kenny Rogers' opponent is...Col. Decker from the tv series 'The A-Team'. (damn I'm old)
Excellent pre-“Frozen” use of “let it go”. 😎
This is the first and only movie I've ever watched featuring period accurate playing cards without numbers or letters. Most have either period inaccurate cards, or (even worse), blatant Bikes. As much as people like to claim this scene is "unrealistic", they sure made up for the gameplay with the props.
Hey it’s Kid Twist from The Sting!!
That's why they call it gambling!
"Pay de nan his money."

Great movie and gambling scene. The lady - right side shown at the 3:00 min. mark is Marianne Gordon from Hee Haw - Kenny Roger's wife at one time. I like the way Kenny throws down that last heart!
Oh man. Hee Haw women in short shorts, big bosoms. That show today would come under soo much criticism. But it's okay for a president to lie, cheat, and steal. What's the world come to.
I don’t know the odds of getting a straight flush, but I’ve never had one ! Best gambling scene I ever saw ! 👍🏻
What a great scene. With 2 great actors.. gotta know when to hold em .know when to fold em!!!
haha best part when he moves all in with a flush draw and the backer starts talking... :-)
Loved it, and his opponent was courteous as a true gambler should be. Very good movie, the others were ok, but this was the best.
I believe this is one of the few times Lance LeGault wasn't the villain
I would have checked a full house looking at Kenny Rogers face a 3:13!
Honey, he called my raise with jack high!
modern poker players could learn something from this, nothing about strategy or anything like that, but courtesy and how to lose with class.
A great scene in television history. Excellent character choice for Kenny. He was perfect as The Gambler Brady Hawks.
Remenacent of the ending of The Cincinnati Kid
Not quite. Hawkes would have lost in that scenario
Would love to see the Gambler again : )
"It's my money. No, it's MY money"
I dont think anyone in this scene has ever played poker before this movie
Prob. not --- 'cuz they weren't playing poker IN this movie.
Scumbags like you ruin movies for people with yer bullshit.. this isn't the Discovery channel ya POS
Don't splash the pot Kenny!😂
This is pretty accurate for how long one poker hand takes in today's poker.
Lol sorry that idiots like you don't even know what you should be thinking about in different situations
@@Moj999_ I bet you get Time called on you in bed.
"Honey he just...."
"Will you STFU?"
Don Schiltz, who wrote the song, 'The Gambler' retired after Kenny Rodgers picked it up. He won a Grammy, so did Rodgers. Then came the movies.
When they pitched the movie they used The Gambler Album cover
the dealer seems more stressed than the players lol, Great Scene, All about respect to the winner ,
donked his way through entirely. I mean honey, he took 3 backdoor draws to finish.
Highly debatable. Definitely depends on who you ask and preferred styles of play.
It's not debatable at all. He played like a complete donkey. It's mathematics.
A Hollywood finish to be sure, only a degenerate gambler or a dumb ass chaser would have played KR,s cards like that. 4 to 1 on catching a flush I think about 21 to one a strait flush and the flush may not have helped because the other guy had a about a 7 to 1 chance of having a full house,
LOl Kenny Roger's character would be the worst poker player who ever lived. Obviously the story writer knew very little about poker. Still a fun scene. The Doc acted his part great.
I would have loved to listen to Phil's rant after losing that hand.
WOW! He won enough for a face lift.
Here's a hint for all you wanna-be poker players: When playing 5-card Stud, if your opponents start catching straight flushes more than once every 30 years, you're being cheated.
Haha! 😂
That’s why they call it “gambling”. 😎
I won $800 in a 8 handed cash game (1st to win 5 games in 5 card draw took the cash) Held 5-7 Spade, flopped 8-6 spade and a King of Heart i think, turned the 9 Spade nuts and took it down. Wife of host accused me of cheating but her husband dealt lol. I was paid !
not true I'm getting one every 2 years, and I'm not cheating!
@@danlee8486 i've had 3 in the last 12 months andsaw 3 others at the tables i was playing at including 2 royals in less than 6 weeks last year. i'm still looking for my first royal in a live game. might be the year for it already hit quads twice and 2 straight flushes of course thisis hold'em not what ever this is called
Hey, its the original Mr. Cunningham from Happy Days on Love American Style.
I wish I could lose that gracefully...
The actual player did NOT loose. The SPONSER did. He wasn't going to call. Mr.Jackass called! The actually player KNEW it was over.
Too bad politicians can't play that well or loose that graciously, now that would be something to watch!
Col. Decker from The A-Team :) Lance Legault man he playing with :)
Borellian Noman From Battlestar Galactica
As soon as I heard that voice that's exactly what I thought but it's a very young Colonel deca
Thank you for telling me Doc's name. He was chasing the A-Team and a Werewolf. Good actor with a good voice.
Lance Legault, was thinking of Lance Hendrickson from Millinium TV.
In this scene, the "gambler" was soundly outplayed at every step of the way.
Except the part where the other guy didn't re-raise before the last card.
@Nick Not a very good one, apparently. He got lucky and sucked out, then got lucky again when the stakeholder made his guy go all in. Over the long haul, that's losing poker.
What no smoking guns? I was waiting for a great shoot out! Guns always won the day in westerns.
Lance LeGault always a classy actor.
Kenny Rogers...... "The man makes a pretty strong bird"
@Uhhh It's a Seinfeld thing...
Rest in Peace Kenny!
Kenny didnt necessarily have to have the straight flush to win the hand. The odds of Kenny making his flush were better than the odds of Doc filling up. Any heart would have most likely got it done.
unless the 4th ace was in the hole of the opponent.
But a straight flush and a run of 4 aces in the same hand? Doubtful.
@@tomregan6979 So unlikely they could make a movie about it...
Lance Legault was a regular on the original Magnum PI, and if I remember correctly, was Elvis Presley's stunt double in a few movies. Quite a resume", huh?
You got to know when to hold them and know when...to fold them. The wealthy backer should have heeded the wise words to a Kenny Rogers song .
You gotta know when to hold em - anytime you’re gonna catch running cards! Lmao such a silly pretend hand
No way the raise made sense....5th card miracle..
If he would have just called i think it would have made it more obvious that he wasnt bluffing. Thats just my 2 cents though
Real easy way to know what to do in these situations: Call timeout and ask the director what the name of the movie is. If your name is in the title, you should call the bet.
Runner,runner,runner!
The Cincinnati kid did this thing almost exactly the same but it was more epic
Let’s go brandon 🍦🍦🍦
That movie is a CLASSIC!!
"Every gambler knows that the secret to surviving, is knowing what to throw away and knowing what to keep." Apparently not.
Never take gambling advice from a guy who can't afford his own whiskey and cigarettes.
@@biggawinnacrapsa3870 I thought that was the advice the gambler was giving: that if you don't made smart decisions with your life, you'll end up like him.
“That’s a fool bet, Mr. Stobridge.” 🤑
It is a daft hand, but it's not about the cards. It's about honour.
A pair of aces on five card is very strong.
I was once at a poker game in a small room without windows. One of the players passed wind, smelling of rotten eggs, and the game was postponed as the players had to leave the room. What people didn’t know was the player that passed the gas had also followed through, and the expensive red velvet on his chair was soiled by his diarrhoea. This caused a commotion and fists were thrown.
one of the few times lance legault played gentleman insead of a heel
They got the caption wrong: I believe Classy was the adjective they were looking for…
As Martin Estrada Contreras used to say, "for me gambling debts are always honor debts"
Kenny's splashing the pot!
Once in a lifetime river card, you’ll end up on the streets if you always played like that - or worst (mental hospital or dead)
worse
Of course, when you get BEAT by that....especially if you're Phil Hellmuth
It's not once in a lifetime in the movies. It's the norm.
You got to know when to hold them. Know when to fold them. Know when to walk away. And know when to run. You never count your money, when you're sitting at the table. There'll be time enough for counting, when the dealings done.
And the best that you can hope for, is dyin' in your sleep.

Asking a pro gambler "do you know what the odds are". Classic..
kenny loggins was the best, his song "freebird" remains a classic!

Guy in suit: Don’t splash the pot!
Kenny Rogers: On my train u will splash the pot whenever the fvck I please.
“Possible Flush” after 4 cards lol
Lance Legault had the icy stare down cold.
Kenny Roger's chicken. It's the wood that makes it good.
Matches your wooden head
Bagels cooked in a wood oven, best I've ever tasted.
So much rail talk and so much chat from the dealer.
Yep..donkey all the way. Even with three suited cards, the chances of the next one was 10 in 47, followed by 9 in 46. I'm no going to do the math, but a flush is about 4%. HEE HAW!
Has anyone ever considered that him, Doc and the dealer chopped up the winnings back by the caboose while drinking a beer and having a cigar?
Nope; he was drawing to a straight-flush with odds about 60% of getting there.
and the dealer would be promoted to head Babylon 5
errrr don't you mean Billy Montana?
@Ribeye Robert D He is The One Who Is
Because Valen is 'The One' who was and Delenn is 'The One' who shall be.
I really liked that movie...
Who knew Captain Sheridan started out like this!
I be sure those two hands being dealt out at random the odds would be in the 20 millions to one shot
One player per hand, please.
All movie poker games are ridiculous. Yes, even the one you're thinking of.
You haven't seen The Rounders then.
This scene is funny because Hollywood assumed most people didn't understand poker so they had to constantly remind the viewers as to who had what, whose was stronger, and even explained the odds during play. Plus they would say pair of Deuces betting x dollars. Super funny movie because play is all wrong and the costume designers should all be shot for dressing these guys in 1970s/1980s clothing & hairstyles. PS: Even in the 1800s a dealer would be shot for explaining whose hand was stronger in the middle of play!
Actually you must not know about 5card stud! The dealer is supposed to call out the cards and hands when dealing. Do your research if you don’t believe me, it’s one of my favorite games.
Goofy all the way around... Better than Casino Royale though. 😂
That was Colonial Decker from the A Team
The guy that lost is the better player, other than he should have made huge bet on 2nd or 3rd ace. Anyone can card Chase and get lucky. Don't try this at home folks.
Railcar should have been shaking.
Has anyone noticed the continuity error in this poker scene from the Kenny Rogers movie "The Gambler"? The spot on the poker table where the wagered chips are placed keeps changing throughout the scene. One moment they are to the right of Hawkes' cards, and then the next moment they are to the left of his cards! And there also are one or two moments in the scene when the camera angle to the right of Hawkes shows the entire poker table and the wagered chips appear to be in two separate piles as if the two players are placing the chips they bet in separate piles which would not occur in a real poker game, because in a real poker game all wagered chips are placed in one pile in the center of the table.
I bet your fun at parties
Ridiculous hand...
You gotta know when to holdem...
The dealer looks like Fred Armisen
On 4th street he knew he was on a flush draw, so when Kenney raised he should have moved all in or at the very least re-raised to make the odds of calling the raise a bad call. Then he bets under a third of the pot on 5th street when the flush and the straight come in. Unless he had a boat or 4 of kind then what the hell was the point of that?
It wouldn't have mattered. Such a goofy hand. 😂
A 4-card open ended straight flush draw against a Pair of Aces, is a 17 out hand. When he catches the Jh, he must atleast have a flush. You better have aces full or 4 aces to call.
@ GARY Gwin. You're right that when Hawkes gets his 4th face-up card the Jack of Hearts, unless Palmer has the 4th Ace as his face-down card , and therefore 4 of a kind, he would be a damned fool to make another wager of $2500 as he did in the poker scene from the Kenny Rogers' "The Gambler" movie since a straight flush or just a flush beats 3 of a kind! If Palmer had the 4th Ace card as his face-down card , then his final wager of $2500 makes sense since the odds of Hawkes having the 8 of Hearts as his face-down card would be astronomically against in a 2-player game (although more likely than in a 4 or 5 player game). The makers of that movie should have had Palmer turn over his face-down card to reveal to the audience if he had the 4th Ace card which if he had the 4th Ace card would have made his final bet of $2500 logical. If he did not have the 4th Ace card as his face-down card , then his final wager of $2500 was idiotically stupid! The audience therefore has to assume that Palmer did have the 4th Ace card as his face-down card.
@@michaelbarlow6610 not necessarily. He could of had a full house which would beat everything the gambler was representing in just a 5 flush. With the exception being a straight flush. So its conceivable he has the full house or 4 aces. I'd wager he had the full house here. His demeanor and the table talk between the players and backer, exudes it.
@@Eadweard76 . Correct. The odds that Doc Palmer has, as his face-down card, one of the three remaining 5s (i.e., 5 of hearts, diamonds or spades) in the deck to make a "full house" are better than the odds that Hawkes has the 8 of hearts as his face-down card. But another flaw in that excellent poker scene in "The Gambler" movie, is when Hawkes after receiving his second face-up heart card, makes a facial gesture reaction to that card, which clearly indicates that he is thinking "interesting", which is an absolute giveaway to an observant professional gambler like Doc Palmer that Hawkes' face-down card is a heart card! Hawkes should have made no facial expression upon receiving that second face-up heart card! That facial expression/reaction by Hawkes was a blunder in his demeanor during the poker game! His facial reaction to the second face-up heart card would only make sense if he was trying to bluff Palmer into thinking that he had a heart card as his face-down card if he really didn't.
Kenny just dropped in to see what condition his condition was in
