Although The Cincinnati Kid is often compared to The Hustler, much as I love Paul Newman's and Jackie Gleason's performances in the latter, I've always found Steve McQueen's and Edward G. Robinson said of Steve McQueen, "He comes out of the tradition of Gable, Bogie, Cagney, and even me--but he's added his own dimension. He is a stunner..." And Steve McQueen had idolized Robinson while growing up and opted for him to play Lancey Howard when Spencer Tracy insisted on top billing for the same role.
Andrew Whitman It means he's betting on his hand. The Man's 1st face-up card was an Ace and he bet $25 on it. In stud poker, person with the best upcards bets first.
+Andrew Whitman In 5 card stud, the player with the best cards showing bets first on each round. At the beginning Lancey had an ace, so he opened the betting. But then on 3rd street, The Kid was showing a pair of 9s, so he bet first. 7 card stud is a bit different in that the player with the worst card showing must bet first at the beginning (this is called the "bring in" bet). But after that, the player with the highest hand bets first the rest of the way.

Robinson's performances in the former to be much more interesting and complex when they interacted. The two actors thought highly of one another. Edward G. Robinson said of Steve McQueen, "He comes out of the tradition of Gable, Bogie, Cagney, and even me--but he's added his own dimension. He is a stunner..." And Steve McQueen had idolized Robinson while growing up and opted for him to play Lancey Howard when Spencer Tracy insisted on top billing for the same role.
is that duke ellington at that table? GOD DAMN!
What does he mean by _____ (card) bets x amount, for example: ace bets $25?
Andrew Whitman It means he's betting on his hand. The Man's 1st face-up card was an Ace and he bet $25 on it. In stud poker, person with the best upcards bets first.
+Andrew Whitman In 5 card stud, the player with the best cards showing bets first on each round. At the beginning Lancey had an ace, so he opened the betting. But then on 3rd street, The Kid was showing a pair of 9s, so he bet first.
7 card stud is a bit different in that the player with the worst card showing must bet first at the beginning (this is called the "bring in" bet). But after that, the player with the highest hand bets first the rest of the way.
what about Edward G. Robinson ?
What about him?
