    Every time we take off its a calculated risk. At a safety seminar I recently attended a speaker mentioned playing Russian Roulette, and every time we make a good decision towards safety we take a bullet out of the chamber. Aka proper W&B, the extra steps during preflight! Thank you so much for highlighting Safety every year with these 31 day challenges!

    25 for 25, Love the videos. They are a constant reminder of the things we should do every time. Its easy to get complacent with something that is done on a regular basis. Kind of like going to church when the pastor reminds us of what we should be doing even though we really already know!! Its just a matter of choices we make that have conveniences.

    25 for 25. Although I’m just a student pilot, I recognize early on you need to listen to what the aircraft is trying to tell you. At the first sign that jet didn’t want to lift off, the takeoff should’ve aborted. someone on the flight deck had to of known something was wrong, but yet they tried to make it happen. Understanding the nuances is just as important as understanding Difficult concepts. There’s lots of valuable insight here. Thank you my friend for sharing this story.

      At rotation speed (V1), that is the no abort speed. First sign was too late.

    25 for 25. Jason, I’ve been watching your videos for a couple of years now. I’m working on my commercial license. I got a 92% on my written exam. But I’m glad you put this video out. I do SLACK on doing my weight and balance because I fly the same aircraft everyday. That is one thing all pilots neglect is weight and balance. I’m not ashamed to admit it. I’m guilty for not checking my weight and balance. When I go on long trips, with baggage, I do my weight and balance. On small or local flights, I don’t. I’m about to be a commercial pilot soon, and I do need to get in the habit of checking my weight and balance. Thanks for this lesson. I’m going to make sure I share this to ALL my friends and fellow pilots. Like you always say, “just remember, that a good pilot is always learning.”

    25 for 25 here.
    Having been a commercial flight attendant for 20 years I’ve had to move passengers to fix the CG on EMB-120 Brasilias, CRJ200, 700s, and 900s, and occasionally in ERJs.
    Having been working on my flying, I now know more about how important CG is in relation to the aircraft’s performance.

      Is this a rough calculation or is there some measurement of load at each gear leg for help with CG in this sense?

      @@joesacher3729 the plane is divided into several zones. The pilots tell us X passengers from Zone 5. So it’s not as easy as moving 1 from the back to the front. It may have to be 2 passengers from the back to about the second or 3rd zone. We also have to consider keeping passengers within their class of service, but can sometimes deviate from that due to the captains authority.
      On wide body, it’s a lot easier because cargo can be loaded to compensate for the CG imbalance by the way passengers are seated.
      It’s more a forward/aft CG calculation rather than an aircraft left/right

    25 for 25. During my mock check ride, I was asked about not only take off W&B, but landing W&B. I do both on every flight now. It only takes a couple of minutes, and it maintains a high level of profinciency.

    25 for 25. Great job. Don't do an official weight and balance each flight. But I do think about it each flight considering what or whom is in the airplane with me. Since I own the airplane and am the only pilot I am aware of the edges of the envelope. Thanks for doing this. Its been fun and a good refresher and learning experience.

    25/25. Aircraft Weight & Balance cannot be over emphasized. I was dispatching a Q300 a few month ago and was horrified when I saw the CG moved forward beyond what I was expecting. An extra 5-7 minutes of cross checking helped me figure out where the problem was. The weights I was given was in KG while the aircraft was calibrated in LBS. Thankfully, I corrected it and everything checked out and of course, the flight departed and returned safely.

    25 for 25. I love that the Cirrus has the W&B embedded in the G1000 checklist items! But I also use Foreflight W&B every time. As a quick check, I always compute the empty weight and add my loads and write it down as a percentage of the MTOW, so I know right away if I am at 85, 90, 95 or 100% and expect the plane to behave differently during takeoff.

    25/25. Unlike being on land or sea, there are serious consequences when you lightly skip through planning for a flight. It can be a "grave error." Yes, 2024 will be my safest year yet, thanks to Jason's inspirations.

    25 for 25! I don't do w&b every time, but I fly 2 seat RV-12's and know my weight so I calculated the max weight I can have for a passenger (CFI only now since I'm a student). The seats are a little further forward than many aircraft so flying solo vs with CFI makes a noticeable difference in how quick the rotation is during take off (POH recommends lifting nosewheel slightly during roll -well before rotation due to no nosewheel steering on RV-12 -better rudder authority)

    25 of 25! Off pavement in Idaho, towing gliders, high density altitude, every flight anyway there is a "before takeoff safety briefing" including "where is the abort point on the runway"? We DO an WnB calculation and post it to the FAA WMIRS web site before being released... FOR EVERY FLIGHT! You can do the same for personal flights. Jer/ Eberhard

    Already doing W&B reports for each flight by fear of and to prevent... "surprises". I vow to continue. My partner had given me the gift of a sought-after luggage scale to help. 25/25, just catching up backlog.

    25 25. I’m committed. As a young CFI I had a close call because I had some very heavy pax show up for a scenic flight. I didn’t make a proper analysis and we made it airborne but barely with a very shallow climb rate. I also elected to take a slight tail wind down hill because of not fully understanding the aerodynamic issues that I was dealing with. So much ignorance can come from inadequate training. Make sure you all study and understand and if you need to- ask questions!

    25 of 25. I can easily see how W&B can sneak up and bite you when you have been flying the same AC for too long and rest on the W&B you've done in the past for one or two people. The same holds true for landing and takeoff performance and abort points on the runway. In these cases you also need to factor in density altitude.

    25\25 I have been working out a W&B for two days for a trip that a buddy and I are going. It’s only 2 hours but I didn’t feel right not having it. I’m only 12 hour into my private but hope to get it done this year. Thank you for these videos MzeroA they are so helpful!!!

    Caught up to 25x25.
    One time as a student W&B revealed that a flight school aircraft was nose heavy, and pretty much would be with any two normal size adults in the front row. The instructor didn't like my idea of a sack of dog food strapped into the back seat. The spreadsheet inputs matched the W&B report, and the math was correct.
    The story was that the battery had been relocated from under the back seat to somewhere forward of the firewall. Comparing the W&B report previous to the move, we came to the conclusion that the new report couldn't possibly be correct - the CG had moved WAAAAAAAY too far.
    This was shortly before I completed training. I only flew that aircraft solo after that.

    25-4-25 🎉🎉. Why most CFIs on flight lesson do not care about W&B? I’ve taken many lessons and they’ve said it’s should be all good. However, It’s a bad impact on a student pilot.

    25/25. Wondering how to handle if 90% of your flights are solo but weight and balance really important. Have to put weight in luggage (tail) to balance 2 big guys up front.

    So Jason: When it's just you and another person up for a flight: do you do a weight and balance check? No way! You already know it's within!
    BUT Peeps the moment (pun) you add Mutiple passengers and or are carrying cargo whether it be baggage, dogs "or anything"... do a weight and balance... do it!

    25 for 25 - CG will always roll or move towards wherever the heaviest weight is located. Too much weight aft and you’ll have an aft CG location. Same if too much weight is forward, then you’ll have a forward CG location.

    at my school, i have yet to perform a WB calc (over a total of 3 training flights)... i'm going to ask, even if i look like a dope
    should i INSIST that a WB be performed prior to each flight?
    In the future, know I will do it before every flight, but just how much leeway/trust should be given to a CFI?

      After you've calculated the WB discuss with your CFI/ Watch the MzeroA video on the affects of forward or aft CG. The Pass Your Private Pilot Checkride book has it nicely explained in a table and that definitely came up during the oral portion of my Checkride. Good luck with the rest of your training!

    25 for 25 With an EFB the task of W&B becomes very simple. no reason not to do it. I own a 182 and over the last 60 years the plane has had changes and each time the new W&B is calculated based on changes made. I had my planed weighed this year and calculated a new Weight and balance and found that the old calculated W&B was off significantly in both weight and center of gravity. So if you own an older plane and changes have been made you should have it checked as it might be in your favor.

    I have a weight and balance Excel file on my phone for each rental airplane that I fly and input any updates. It makes the decision process easier.
