20 for 20, the only pop-up I've seen is on my computer screen. We're completely grounded here in Chicago due to the freezing temps. Thank you Jason I learn a new thing every time I watch your videos, you're the best.

Pop-up or upgrading to IFR is such a safer alternative than pushing on VFR or Special VFR in bad wx. Did a pop-up last week albeit just for an RNP practice into YMMB in a Cirrus .

Morning! 20 for 20! Not manned today, but I’m using my knowledge to use my part 107 today to help locate the last 2 remaining dogs that were dumped near a jobsite in the high desert all the way out here in eastern San Diego. I’m so glad I was introduced to this program as I’ve always had the aviation bug but haven’t had the means to get into a physical plane but knowing I can get through and be familiar with some of the overlapping knowledge following my part 107 (which I got because of your program) I’ve never felt better or closer and more comfortable with my dream (as well as those around me) and I’m excited to get myself started on my ground school with you as well. I have a lot going on in the next 6 months which may even include literally moving to Florida for my fiance to get her masters and for myself to further my education in GIS. Ha anyways. Long rant. I appreciate you and all that MzeroA has opened up for me and for allowing me to prove to myself that this is indeed obtainable. So thank you for all the safety and hard work you and your team do to keep us as educated and safe as possible. See you in the skies.

20 for 20! Another great video with real life flying. Things don't always go as expected or anticipated and we need to make good, safe decisions even if it could mean turning around and cancel the visit -especially for anyone like me being VFR.

My most memorable pop-up was a few years ago coming home to western Pennsylvania from Sun n Fun. I departed VFR after the afternoon airshow and wasn't even able to get flight following until past Jacksonville because the controllers were too busy. Once over Virginia talking to Washington Center I had to get a clearance to make it the last few hundred miles. The controllers did a great job keeping me well clear of the thunderstorms around Pittsburgh that night, and the ADS-B radar was a big help as well. I've had a few other pop-up clearances as well, always while already on VFR flight following, which makes it pretty easy.

20/20. I had a pop up IFR just happen about two weeks ago. The weather showed VFR at destination in Iowa. When I left Michigan the skies were broken and I was able to get up above the 4,000 base to a clear blue sky. I flew at 16,000 over Lake Michigan but when I got writhing 40 miles of destination the skies became totally overcast. It was not a thick layer but it was definitely overcast. I was on flight following and simply called Minneapolis Center and they cleared me in. Piece of cake. Strangely enough, I’m planning a flight to Leesburg, FL in the next couple weeks, to see my mother.

20 for 20: Ah, the mystical pop-up IFR clearance. I have heard of this dark magic but have never seen it. Since all my IFR time was getting my rating I filed my IFR flight plan in DUATS before every flight. With all the prior chart-and-dart planning done before each training flight the pop-up IFR clearance seemed like such an overwhelming procedure. Thanks for showing what it looks like in a real-world environment. When I will the lottery I'm gonna have to by Jason an M600!!!!

I wonder if the ADS-B info that's now available (or maybe something else) makes it easier for controllers to issue pop-ups -- I don't request them often, but when I do it seems to go a lot smoother recently than it did back in the day. In the olden days I more than once was told to switch frequencies and contact FSS to file, which of course sometimes meant receiving the FSS on a VOR frequency.... 🙄 And then there was the problem of multiple FSSs answering you at the same time. Ah the good old days.

Great content, production value and presentation, as per usual. Some gental pushback however. With my fam on board, an ADSB screen like at 3:58, field reporting IFR, ….. I probably would have diverted nearby, for a short time, to get a clearer picture, see what’s up, and reattempt. Of course though, pilot experience and plane capability are important factors as well, just not sure less capable of either should attempt anything similar.
Just my 2 cents, others may disagree ✈️
