I have the sweetest (and probably strangest) memory of this game.....we'd been learning it before my 'simple surgery' in Feb of '21 and then I wound up almost dying, rushed to ER and in tachycardia with a high fever. After....I-have-no-idea-how-many antibiotics and days of being unable to move or barely able to move, I was finally able to return home. I hadn't seen my husband almost the whole time, because I could have only one visitor a day, and I needed my mom. (Goes without sayin', right?!?) A few days later it was Saturday, and my hub & I decided to play Pendulum. I was asleep at least 75% of the time, but I badly wanted to play! XD I remember I kept nodding off and coming to and Ben would be gently telling me, "....Teegy, it's your turn whenever you want." It must have taken us 4x as long to play, but it was such a victory....being back home was just super special. And having a sweet husband is super special, too!!!
If only all of us had that kind of patience at the game table. Ben sets a good example!
Rodney Smith is awesome.
"Watch It Flipped"
mesmerizing. Is it possible to learn this power?
This video gets the Legendary Achievement! Thanks so much to Rodney and the Watch it Played crew! Pendulum needed this walkthrough! 👍🏼❤️🙌🏼
Thanks Alex - glad you enjoyed!
Thanks for another great one, boss! I always watch your videos first whenever I get a new game. Helps me put it all into context before I dive into the rulebook for the particulars.
Very kind of you to say Chris - glad you're enjoying!
Thank you. Your explanation is great, your voice is pleasant and your smile is infectious. What do we want more?
By watching the video we learn the board game in a very pleasant and fast way. Thank you, Rodney.
Very kind of you to say Bie - so glad it was helpful!
He always takes out the board game's box from the same section.
What great timing for this video, cannot wait to preorder.
Glad you enjoyed!
Those box flipping skills, they are mad!
Excited to get this now for the solo mode! - Also worth pointing out that if Rodney can’t make me understand a game then nothing else will. Thank you for the fantastic video!
Very kind of you to say :)
Thanks for this - so clear :) Game arrived yesterday, just got to convince the wife to play it now!
Have fun playing!
Thanks, Rodney! I'm off to discover the solo play rules on my own. 😄 Excited to give this game a try!
Have a great time playing!
Finally! Thank you Rodney.
I am a simple man when watch it played uploads i like
Very appreciated!
This is an example of a game I would have NEVER played before finding these video walk-throughs! I have always loved board games, but about a year ago my husband and I decided we were really going to start playing them more. There is so much variety and I have noticed it helps me a lot with my mental sharpness that sometimes gets fuzzy with my fibromyalgia. Anyway, I never thought I could handle such a complex game, but I watched through this video a couple times with my husband. We decided to give it a try. What is really outstanding about it to us is that it's so dang different than other games we've come across. I would have never picked something like that out on my own, but it was honestly a lot of fun!!! Who'd have thought?!? Thanks for previewing such a complex and unusual game!!!
With over 3,000 games releasing each year, there are still so many new design spaces to uncover. Who knows what will be next!
Is it just me, or do the grande workers and common workers look like Rick and Morty meeples? I might buy the game solely because of this!
I’ll never unsee that now :)
As usual I'm always anxious to get the Watch it played video before ordering a game. The problem to me is that no matter what game you explain... It is soo clear that I want to play it so then my wallet gets the hit 🤦🏼♂️.
As always thank you for your amazing work Rodney. Missing the Vlog now to see whats going on in PEI during the pandemic.
Cheers Rodney!
We are loooong overdue for a vlog. As soon as things slow down a little with Watch It Played, you can expect one!
'Watch It Played' is just a scam by Big Boardgame to sell more boardgames :o
Superb effort Rodney! And thanks to you, it's sitting in my shelf as I type this. It was a breeze going through the rulebook after watching this video. Can't wait to play it!
I hope you have a great time with it Vysakh !
@@WatchItPlayed 4 games down, I am absolutely loving it!
One doubt...can more than one of my own workers take the same action at the same time? For example, if a timer has locked two of my workers in the green area with the 2 Popularity VP icons, can both my workers occupy this action space as long as I can afford the cost of 4 gold?
@@vysakhs9700 Just so I'm clear, you do mean a "different" space, just the same outcome, right? Like, if one worker is on one row, and locked, can another worker go to "the same space" on a different row? If so - yes!
@@WatchItPlayed Not exactly. At 14:53, you showed how a worker pays the cost and moves down to an action space to get the reward. My doubt is whether two of your own workers on the SAME row can take that same action.
@@vysakhs9700 Yes, as long as you respect the rules for common and grande workers explained here: ua-cam.com/video/fVO8TQSyTSs/v-deo.html
I've made it to clear. Ok.
I've never wanted to hug you more lol. You're a genius at what you do. Never think differently.
Ha, glad you're enjoying!
Nice box art + shirt color coordination.
*takes a subtle bow*
Very clean and clear!
Thank you!
Common workers looks like Morty and grand workers looks like Rick, from “Rick and Morty”😅😅😅
Every game I get, I come here to check to see how it's played. So glad someone did this.
Have a great time playing!
Bring back the 70's retro moustache. Thanks for another clear demo
Take care
lol, the stache is staying away for now!
Always the best, Rodney 👍👍👍👍👍😃😃😃😃
Thank you kindly Stefano!
I think the most impressive thing about Watch it Played is how Rodney has managed to avoid the dreaded “box fart” noise when putting lids back on. I imagine there have been some retakes in past videos...
Lots of practice has paid off!
Great video! I’m interested to watch a group play this game just to see the actual pace of it. Regardless, looks good.
Every group will likely play differently in terms of pace, but here's a video from the great channel: Before you Play: ua-cam.com/video/VFUTxGoT_aA/v-deo.html
Watch It Played thanks
These box flips are getting out of hand.
EDIT: And yet, I rewinded and watched it again.
They won't get out of hand if Rodney is doing it ;)
@@peterkorinek9881 Touche good sir
Super concise and easy to follow
Thanks Ben - glad you liked it!
@@WatchItPlayed We really enjoyed playing the game, too. We rarely don't like playing a game, but this one has special memory. I got my wife back from the hospital (she almost died from a surgical complication) and this was one of the ones we'd bought but not tried yet. Even though she was still fatigued and dozing off, she wanted to play, and we just had one of the best times together. Memories are the best part of gaming!
Neat concept
Thanks for checking it out!
I really don’t know how I would get kickstarted in a game without Rodney.
So glad they've been helpful Kartika!
Hello there!! Awesome explaining!! The only thing I didn’t understand is this: why we flip the timers all the time, since we don’t care about time? Why isn’t there a token instead of the timers? Thank you
This is a bit tricky to answer, as I don't know what mode you are playing in. The timers are for when you "do" use time, but if you're playing without using time, then yes, you could use tokens or something else, if you'd prefer.
Stonemeier has been hit or miss lately for me since scythe. Ill give this a shot
Well thanks for checking it out either way!
When do the get-the-box-out-of-the-closet-and-twirl-it-like-a-master lessons start again?
Nice video as always!
Glad you enjoyed :)
Epic opening :)
Can I ask Rodney? Have you persuaded anyone to play it with you yet and if so what did you particularly enjoy about it (or otherwise)? Thanks
Didn’t take much persuading :) That said I avoid reviewing, so I can’t help there. I’d rather show the game and let you apply your own biases and personal tastes to it. Thanks for checking the video out though. Hope it helped give some insight into how the game works!
Ah ok! What makes you think my own biases are foremost Mr Smith (and how do you know me sooooo well)?? 👏👏🤣🤣🤣 🎲 🎲 🤹♀️🎠🃏🃏
Rodney... Between you and me... How many times did you toss the box until you got it right? :-D Great intro!
Are you suggesting it's not the first time, every time? :)
I'm kinda curious how the solo play works in a game like this. Just using the untimed board in guessing? Interesting game for sure... Might have to pick it up
Thanks for checking it out!
You are great
You're very kind!
Interesting, but oh boy, it seems like the kind of game where you need the perfect group of player. You know a rule is crucial when Rodney has to repeat it twice ! Love the audacity and creativity it takes to publish a mid-level complexity game in real time, but not so sure I'm sold about the theme and overall design of the board.
It’ll be interesting to see how people take to it! Thanks for checking out the video.
Found this game unused at a thrift store and trying it out with some friends in the near future. You did great at explaining the complex rules, but I'm curious what you think of the actual game play
Hi Kaelyn, I don’t review on the channel, just not something I’ve felt comfortable doing. There are games I enjoy that other detest and games others adore that didn’t work for me. I prefer to just show how the game is played and help in that way.
@@WatchItPlayed Makes sense! I'm just so curious how it stacks up against other games for you
Would be great to see more of these games with single player options (for those of with no gaming friends 😄). Maybe include reviews for how well the one player option works.
I avoid reviewing and giving opinions on the channel. I’d like to be able to feature more of the solo aspects, but the challenge is time. I find it best if I teach the full game and then hopefully that fast tracks your ability to learn the solo rules too.
i'm not a big fan of timed board games, but this looks pretty interesting
Yes, timed games can be hit or miss for some, to be sure!
спасибо, всё понятно
Пожалуйста
How does privilege order react with a stalemate sort of situation? Not just a tied dispute over wanting to go first, but maybe sort of the opposite, like:
Alice and Bob both want to use an already placed worker to conquer a province, however they'd each prefer the *other* goes first (perhaps they want to conquer a province, but would like to see a new one off the top of the deck. They'd also settle for one of the available ones, but maybe not if the other player gets the better choice of seeing the new one off the top of the deck.).
Suppose Alice has higher privilege.
Must Alice exercise her 'privilege' of picking first?
Or can Alice tell Bob 'No, you pick first!', and Bob is then pressured to choose to conquer (or refrain from conquering), thus letting Alice get the best and final choice?
When it comes to a preference, the person with privilege gets their preference... so if the person with privilege wants the other person to go first, the other person goes first.
I’m always curious how many attempts on average it takes to do the spinning box intros :)
Are you suggesting it's not accomplished on the first attempt?!??!?!!? *gasp*
If there are no turns, how does the action begin? It sounds like a rugby game in the making, a scrum over the game board, especially whent he timers are used. I watched Tom Vassal's review, and I am not seeing anything here to convince me that he is wrong. I am not feeling the love on this one. I am a huge Stonemaier game fan, Scythe, Wingspan, Viticulture and Tapestry are in my top ten games, with the first three of those being in the top three of my favorite games. But this one just seems like a hot mess to me. I just don't see the attraction... I was watching the production notes on Facebook and it looked interesting, but the viedeos I have seen now that it is in circulation for reviews has taken it off my list... Thanks for a GREAT explanation (WAY better than Tom's talk a mile a minute explanation...). You are the best!!
The action begins at the last step of the setup, when the 3 timers are flipped
The playthrough on Before You Play has been the best one for me to get a sense of how it doesn’t have to be a hectic game.
I know what starts the action, I just don’t see a smooth transaction between the flip and the scramble for the board. IDK. Just not my cup of tea. But that is why there are 31 flavors at the ice cream store, and about a hundred or more games every month coming out to suit our fancy (a mere guess on my part, I have NO idea how many new games come out every every month. I just know that I watch Watch It Played and get a lot of GREAT guidance on what looks like my wife and I would enjoy it and what looks like WE would not enjoy it. This game, even at the $45 USD price for Champion members, of which I am a member, it is not making the list. But there are plenty of other fish in the sea, and I am not saying that it would not be a good game for others. Just not us. We like highly interactive games, where we can see what each other are doing and enjoy seeing what the other player has done and applaud them when they make a great move, or have a great strategy work out. This game seems like it is a free for all and then at the end, the players all get together after they have been playing in the playground separately and say, “okay, how did you do?’” Not my style. But by all means, if it looks good to you, have fun.
Purple pieces pushed....nice!
Thank you for noticing :)
"In privilage order; so, starting with white". I like when fantastical games depict real life.
But in all seriousness, awesome teach, as always!
Thank you Karam (unintended 'art mirroring life', and all).
Came here just to say I utterly flinched at that point !!!
Can you do How to play Sorry board game?
Thanks for the interest! I talk a bit about that here: ua-cam.com/video/EdtDuvIUa6A/v-deo.html&t=342
Time stands still in AWE when Rodney teaches……
Hope you enjoy!
Any game where part of the game is telling other players to "Check your privilege" is all right in my book.
I see all those icons and think "just no." I understand that some people prefer them (especially if games don't often get published in their language), but honestly, icons are more of a foreign language than foreign languages for some of us and more than a few makes a game feel like work.
Yep, some people really like icons, others don't. I found these were laid out clearly enough that once I was playing it didn't impede game play, but different strokes for different folks!
You would definitely not enjoy Mysthea or Icaion (both great games!).... heavily icon-based boards and cards, but honestly after a few games you get used to the design and appreciate the abbreviation.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but there's a slight editing glitch at 12:00.
Woah - so there is. This was not in the original render. I've noticed a few of these creeping into uploads of late. Not sure what the cause is. Just glad it didn't wipe out a section of the tutorial itself
If no player manages to earn a legendary achievement, the peasants get bored of your aristocratic games and install a democratic government when you're not looking. In a sense, they could be said to have won the game in your place.
