Kentucky has a very good Homestead Exemption of about 40% for those that are disabled or low income bracket or age 65. North Carolina is another nice state but here again, a lot depends on where you live. A best friend of mine lives Southport and it is rather expensive in that area. So the best thing for everyone to do is to look at their own needs. Age, retirement, savings, type of home, etc, all come into play. I really can't get behind most of what is being said here. Jobs seem very plentiful for those that want to work, school and education seems to be more subjective than objective in the last 10 years. Year 2024. I was born and raised on the same "creek," that my ancestors came through the Cumberland Gap. I raised my now adult children on the same property. We're country people. I've traveled to other places. I wouldn't live in Louisville or any city. I'm a retired nurse. I like Keenland in Lexington more than Churchill Downs. My son and his children 's favorite fun times is riding 4-wheelers (quqds) on trails in the mountains. If I didn't live here I'd want to live at the beach. One grandson has went to the local Community college. He graduated to be a diesel mechanic. He didn't want to go to college. He worked nights at the Coca -Cola bottling plant while he went to school. There's people that retire from that place. He had a class in high school to prepare him. He should be able to get good pay. He understands that he'll eventually have to be trained for the electric engine. I have another grandson that's going to school to be an electrician. His twin sister is doing her 2nd year of college at a state school. They didn't want a big college debt.
My great aunt Annie taught a one room school and they turned out to be engineers and lawyers and farmers. You don't need more money and technology, you need one room schools.
I was the president of our school board here in California. There are so many ways to bring your schools around. Some involve your state and Governor. It is so vital for these children to get a proper education. What did the district get for Covid. Each child should have received a computer.
I recently moved to Kentucky, and all I see is job openings everywhere. So much so that a good amount of immigrants are getting work extremely quick and the pay is very good $20+. I have seen a lot of poverty and this might sound uneducated but how the hell is there this much poverty when the cost of living is low compared to the rate of pay? I see tons and tons of apartments at $800 or less. I come from Miami where a 1/1 is no less than $1800 in almost any location and the pay is $12-$15. Yes people live paycheck to paycheck but I guess the hustle in Miami is different than this whole state.
What jobs are you finding in Kentucky that are $20+ and entry level? I live in Louisville but I have seen nothing but $10-15 hour jobs and some of them even require a bachelors degree 😂. agree with the low cost of living. Rent is hella cheap here. However, it balances out because the pay here is shit and we have a high income tax.
@@Ashbash14 Kentucky is a major player in the manufacturing business, and warehousing jobs. I’m near the okolona area and I constantly see work where the starting paying is $21 or $24. I contacted the HR department’s in these companies (like 6-8 months ago) and there is no college Education required and no prior training either. Granted it’s not the best of the best work since it’s labor intensive and it’s working in manufacturing like Ford, however the work is there. Yes there will be more lower paying jobs that outweigh the higher ones BUT the jobs are there. It’s more of a do you want to do that type of job question. I know someone working in a slaughter house (yup I know that sucks) and he makes on OT $51 the hour. Again the jobs are there, however do you want to work in those type of warehousing jobs? In Miami the only way you can possibly get $15+ is if you work in management
the immigrants need to learn the language and assimilate - also the number of these folks who have never had a drivers licence but who disregard is over the top

I moved to rural Western Kentucky from the suburbs of Denver 2 1/2 years ago. I guess the thing I dislike most about Kentucky is the high number of trashy, run down properties I see. What is it here that makes people turn their properties into junk yards? One can drive down any country road and see beautiful, well kept homes and property. Then a quarter mile down the road, find a falling apart single wide with half a dozen junk cars and untold amounts of rubbish haphazardly strewn about. People here seem to accept it as the norm. I personally find it disgusting.
It's that way in some areas of South. Tn is the same way. I moved from West Ky to West Tn this year. I live in a very small town and you can see two or three really nice homes and then you'll see one that looks like a hoarder lives there and then a couple more fair homes and another with their sofa on the front porch and then another really really nice home and then another with their fridge, washer, dryer in the front yard with lawn mowers all over their front porch that is caving in. There should be ordinances about those things but for the most part there isn't. It's one thing to be poor and it's another to be down right nasty.
This is silly. The population grows every year, and the house prices in Louisville are insanely high. Shotgun house in Germantown is $300k. We recently moved back from Florida. KY state income tax sucks, and so does the weather Jan-April. Schools are very good in many areas. Statewide, not so much. Not sure how they rank them anyway meaning what is a good school. We live in horse country, and it is stunning.

I was born and raised in western Kentucky and decided I had to leave as the state became unreasonably red and crazy. I have to say jobs are available but they don’t pay well. There are many factors affecting education but I’m surprised that parental lack of involvement in schools and supporting their students wasn’t mentioned.

Sorry Miss Katie about venting my opinion. Are people leaving, BECAUSE. The Healthcare SUCKS, school system SUCKS, people are LAZY ( there is plenty of employment), people have no common sense and what little sense they have, they dont know how to excersise it, weather SUCKS, food SUCKS, a bunch of clueless "GOOD OL BOYS" are the political system. SO MUCH MONEY and EMPLOYMENT in KY, its the senseless and lazy who are the ones claiming poverty. She in correct, no funds for parks, specifically local and County. The parks are overgrown and unmaintained. However, even being landlocked, it is an outdoor haven. Plenty of small man made lakes and the Ohio to the Mississippi. BUT, as ive learned from living in over eight States, the grass isnt always greener on the other side. KY is a nice place to VISIT.
You are in Louisville, What percentage of thugs and terminally unemployed are there? Those companies that came to southern states, how many came for low wages and smaller benefits? And globalization, keep handing our jobs to the not as cheap foreign wage. Yeh when All the good paying jobs are gone, then what are we going to do. All states go thru a certain amount of move now its cheaper here. Illinois and California, and New Jersey know about high taxes and get out quick era. There is a certain amount of peace and quiet in Kentucky. Just my take .
And that's why you should move to a Democratic state. Kentucky might be #36 in education, but Indiana is worse. They are now trying to pass a law to make it where teachers can be proscuted for having "inapporiate books" in class. They have a severe teacher shortage in IN because the Republicans won't get off of the 5 Billion in revenue to give them a raise, not they want to put them in jail.
Any adult giving inappropriate books to kids behind the parents back should be prosecuted, teachers are no exception. Stop giving "Democratic" a bad name.
@@katieskeen Clean air and water, low cost of living, conservative values. Kentucky really should work on making Kentucky a haven for retirees. Retirees in general are good citizens, have pensions or 401k's and health insurance. Anytime you move to a state and become a taxpayer, not a tax taker and create jobs instead of taking a job, it's a big win for the state.
I think the number one reason people are leaving KY me included is the cost of living vs quality of life. Kentucky just really isnt a good place to live you could do everything there is to do here in less than a year. Not to mention that all those rolling pastures of beauty are fenced off all the way up to the road. Not much room for enjoyment there. Those same land owners refuse to sell more than 1/2acre so really wants the point. As a renter ky landlords are absolutely price gouging rent here. And that in itself is a huge problem that no one wants to talk about, like how about all those houses for rent for over $1600 a month in a neighborhood that is known for shootings and breakins. Like really the landlords here are very parasitic
Talk about high rents try colorado. Starts at 2500 -6000 just for a two bedroom. There are other states that are just as high. scalping is what I call it. Same old piece of junk and no up grades on the properties.
I worked in Kentucky at a high-level position in a woke-progressive company. Being from Texas, I let their friendly southern accents fool me. I assumed their values were the same as in the South. They are not. And don't let anybody tell you this is a state it is considered Southern. It's closer to Washington DC thinking and you might expect.

North Carolina is another nice state but here again, a lot depends on where you live. A best friend of mine lives Southport and it is rather expensive in that area. So the best thing for everyone to do is to look at their own needs. Age, retirement, savings, type of home, etc, all come into play. In regards to the ark, it is an attraction just like any other attraction and just like everyone, you choose to go or not. Oh, one more thing, Tn health care is horrible and ranks 40 in the country. Kentucky health care is pretty good and it ranks 20 in the country.
I left hellhole Philly to move back to KY after 25 years. KY is kind, wholesome, and beautiful. Be careful if you leave because people aren’t as kind in most of the US.
Welcome back to Kentucky! Thanks for watching.
the Eastern part of Kentucky people are still using outdoor toilets. In the Western part of Kentucky, people just goes to the woods and hide behind a tree.
Lol. Thank for sharing!
We want to move out of Florida and are considering Kentucky.
Awesome! What’s drawing you to Kentucky?
It is rural, natural, and the cost of living is lower. I like trail running, hiking and horses. It seems Kentucky has all of that.
I really can't get behind most of what is being said here. Jobs seem very plentiful for those that want to work, school and education seems to be more subjective than objective in the last 10 years. I lived in illinios for 18 years, Talk to someone from there and you won't think KY is so bad anymore.
I live in Kentucky. And while I like living here, these are a few reasons people leave the state. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing. I agree, Keenland is better than Churchill downs!
I was gonna come. I’m not leaving a red state for a blue state. I want nothing to do with a rat state. What a shame
Thanks for watching!
My great aunt Annie taught a one room school and they turned out to be engineers and lawyers and farmers. You don't need more money and technology, you need one room schools.
Thanks for sharing your perspective.
If you don't want to be wealthy move to Kentucky.
There is a drone video of a farm in your video at the 5:48 mark. Where is that in Kentucky?
Great question. I’ll reach out to my editor!
Taxes are killing me here
Thanks for watching!
I was the president of our school board here in California. There are so many ways to bring your schools around. Some involve your state and Governor. It is so vital for these children to get a proper education. What did the district get for Covid. Each child should have received a computer.
Thanks for watching! I can't speak for every school system, but JCPS students did received chromebooks during covid.
Thanks for sharing your experiences with us.
Agree there are no $20 our jobs here
@@Ashbash14 Kentucky is a major player in the manufacturing business, and warehousing jobs.
My son and me are considering moving to Kentucky, to be exact Louisville but I heard that crime when double in one of your videos, I wonder what part of town of Louisville the crime rate is high or if this is a state wide, is any smaller town attached or next to Louisville that would be more comfortable and safe to live than Louisville, in case is not? Thank you.
Greet questions! I think crimegrade.org is a good resource for you to investigate crime. Besides louisville, oldham county, Shelby county, and Bullitt county are good to investigate.
2 minutes of excitement first weekend in May. That’s it. Ky is depressing
Aw! What do you find most depressing?
The weather, the crime, backwardness of people. Maybe it was just my upbringing, I don’t know. Couldn’t wait to leave.
Cost more for water going down the drain that it does for the water that comes out of your faucet even though you're drinking sewer water in herpes Vill USA
Trouble finding jobs? Jobs are EVERYWHERE here.
Thanks for sharing. I've got a video about jobs coming soon! Make sure to subscribe and ring the bell, so you'll be notified. I'll link it here once it's complete.
School choice would be a great thing if the governor would pass it.
Schools can definitely be a challenge. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing about your experiences!
As a WestKy resident my whole 47yrs, if you cant deal with the lifestyle then feel free to move. We wont stop you.
Was this made by the JCTA?
Nope
This is silly. The population grows every year, and the house prices in Louisville are insanely high. Shotgun house in Germantown is $300k.
We recently moved back from Florida. KY state income tax sucks, and so does the weather Jan-April. Schools are very good in many areas. Statewide, not so much. Not sure how they rank them anyway meaning what is a good school.
We live in horse country, and it is stunning.
Thanks for sharing your perspective!
Kentucky is better than New Jersey.
Thanks for watching!
No its not lol
I got divorced end of last year and I am looking to move away from Minnesota. Kentucky is on my radar, perhaps greater Lexington area or further east. I need a new start.
I went to Kentucky a week ago and absolutely loved it! I've lived in Minnesota all my life and I just fell in love with Kentucky. There are still mosquitoes there though lol.
How did Kentucky get on your radar? What are your top considerations for a place to live?
Yes, the mosquitos are terrible here. I'm glad you had a good visit!
@katieskeen I went and saw the Ark Encounter, it was cool.
People from Louisville look down on others.
Just bought a farm in KY love it
That’s fantastic. Congrats!!
Congrats!!!! I'm in Illinois and that is my dream to do what you did. Take road trips to KY a handful of times and I love it.
I was born and raised in western Kentucky and decided I had to leave as the state became unreasonably red and crazy.
I have to say jobs are available but they don’t pay well. There are many factors affecting education but I’m surprised that parental lack of involvement in schools and supporting their students wasn’t mentioned.
Thanks for watching and sharing your opinion.
Employers play poker with new hires ,they disregard where you come from and start you out low ,because you need it ,well from experience find nation company with foreign headquarters and travel until rich ,then find local job
Thanks for sharing your insights.
I know at least 20 families I cannot make this up they moved out of Kentucky for a variety of reasons number one of the schools are just horrible. The roads are really bad they build things but they don’t build a road so then you have traffic. Not very good planning there in Ky. I here for whatever it’s worth it if you’re not from Kentucky, you don’t want to move to Kentucky
Thanks for watching. It's unfortunate that people are leaving, but many people are moving here as well.
Oh gosh. Kentucky has some of the best highways and byways in the USA. That is where they sink the tax money, in the highways.
I've been traveling here and there for 22 years now. I have been to every single state except Hawaii. I am going THERE soon. I will never go back to Kentucky though. I will make a nice Magazine article of "Top 10 Best States To Move to," and "Top 10 Worst States That You Would Never Want To Move To," There are a few states that are tied for #1 Worst States. Kentucky is absolutely at the very top of the list of worst States in the U.S!........................................................................................
........................................................I CANNOT STAND KENTUCKY, dude!!!!!!
Thanks for watching! What is hardest for you about Kentucky?
I retired to Kentucky in 2020 and kiss my $240 property tax bill every year when it comes in.
Nice!
JCPS gets over 2 billion a year. Thats 1 school district!
What do you think would help JCPS?
Do you have the lottery
There is a KY lottery!
Leaving Kentucky.... to go where? You didn't say.
Check out the redfin migration data! It will tell you the top 10 cities people are relocating to from Louisville.

New good thing about Kentucky and why I'm now interested. They are first to pass the Anti-trans bill. Now I feel comfortable moving my money up there to invest. Let people move. Plus it has 4 seasons. I like that!
That's only if you can make it through a whole season. People are You're getting killed left and right here for no reason. They're hijacking cars home invasion. The the Rob you in fast food restaurant drive through. So come on down, I'm sure you'll be next on their list.
No relief in sight. If you like the Wild Wild West, you'll love Kentucky.

I call them hills or the Knows. Head down to Western North Carolina and you'll see them. Mt Mitchell in particular

Im leaving Kentucky, because the TV's are eating me alive. When i say TV's, i mean the flying critters. Nats, ect... tonight is my very last day in Kentucky. Good riddance. Burn the whole state to get rid of the TV's eating people
Thanks for watching and for sharing your thoughts!
Wow!!! That sounds like horror movie material! Where in Ky were you living at?
Thanks for sharing your experiences!
Vote Trump to help with unemployment. Harris is going to give you more if the same of the last 4 years
You are in Louisville, What percentage of thugs and terminally unemployed are there? Those companies that came to southern states, how many came for low wages and smaller benefits? And globalization, keep handing our jobs to the not as cheap foreign wage. Yeh when All the good paying jobs are gone, then what are we going to do. All states go thru a certain amount of move now its cheaper here. Illinois and California, and New Jersey know about high taxes and get out quick era. There is a certain amount of peace and quiet in Kentucky. Just my take

If you want a killer job in Kentucky, learn PLC
Thanks for the tip.
Kentucky has one of the highest cancer rates in the US. Dont know why.
I’ve never heard that. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching and for your feedback!
Any adult giving inappropriate books to kids behind the parents back should be prosecuted, teachers are no exception. Stop giving "Democratic" a bad name.
So this is a good thing.
Pedophiles should be in jail.
Lol no
We have a great gov. I love Andy but they treat him like shit anytime he tries to do good.

Its not just Ky it's all over the US TRUMP 2024❤❤❤❤❤
Screw you and the orange blob..
Sounds like a good place to retire.
What aspects of Kentucky sound the most appealing?
Thanks for watching and for sharing your experiences.
Plenty of great outdoor areas throughout the state 😂
Kentucky sucks been here not even 3 years and I can't wait to leave
@@cmd1776why, what's wrong?
Talk about high rents try colorado. Starts at 2500 -6000 just for a two bedroom. There are other states that are just as high. scalping is what I call it. Same old piece of junk and no up grades on the properties.
HEY! Buh-bye! Don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya!
