Keep in mind that whether or not you will be able to salvage it all depends on its condition. If the cable is not in too bad of shape and not too stretched, you could get a few more years out of it. In my case, it was in rough shape, but I did get 7 more months out of it without a problem, until last week when the cable got bound up inside and almost broke. So, I ended up having to replace my regulator anyway, and I did record it. That video is still in the editing stage, and I hope to have it uploaded soon!
@@lonelyryder7441 i’ve tried it this afternoon. I didn’t meed to release the door latch neither block the window. In my I could shatter the blue plastic with a pair of pliers. But unfortunately my cable was waaay to damaged and even after applying some grease it keeps making the same noise. So I guess I need to change the whole assembly. Waiting for that next vídeo. Thanks once again :)
thank you for this fantastic and detailed video. i believe this is one of very few videos that shows the complete disassembly of the motor and cable system. thank you! my window is stuck in the up position and i suspect i will need to do a similar disassembly.
Great video! Mine just started making the grinding noise this morning. BTW, I like your presentation perspective of using both hands from the individual's position.
After this fix, mine worked fine for seven months, but then something in it broke and I had to replace it anyway. I made a video on how to replace it as well. ua-cam.com/video/vHWyCb2v_xQ/v-deo.html
In my case, there was enough of the blue knob intact that it was still holding the sheath, so I simply removed the part that broke off, put the cable back into the right track on the pully, and reassembled everything. It has been working fine since. If you need to replace yours with something, I have heard of people using a zip tie around the cable between the spring and sheath to create a makeshift retainer. You could try something like that. Hope that helps!
I was Lucky to have two hidden fasteners, one screw behind a plastic cover with airbag logo and one plastic retainer behind the cover of the doorpocket
This video is brilliant! I have the same exact noise so I am trying it now :P. Thanks

I'm working on that video now!
Very helpful, thanks. Not only that the sound is gone but the window goes all the way up, it didn't before.👌🏽
Insane how helpful this was. Never seen such an insightful car video on UA-cam before. Thank you very much
Holy crap this is exactly what I needed (to the letter) to fix my crunchy window on my 996 C4S. Thank you so much for posting.
You bet!

You're welcome!
Hey how do you retain the cable sheath that the blue piece and spring was retaining?

Can i just leave it and not fix it?
Yes, but it will eventually break.
I was Lucky to have two hidden fasteners, one screw behind a plastic cover with airbag logo and one plastic retainer behind the cover of the doorpocket
How did you take out the one behind the airbag logo? Did you pop out the logo? I had to bend the metal and reach into
I don't know it anymore. And I sold my Porsche :-( so cannot help. As far as I know I popped out the logo.
