I am the one human who actually kinda likes False Super Saiyan? Something that is erratic and short-lived, not really dependable for a fight. Does that make any kind of sense? ...It's like Gohan's rage boost made into a more formal and "refined' thing, sort of? But not really.
DelCaptain I actually quite liked it as well, it seems like a form of super saiyan with not the full power of normal ssj and the rage part takes over more than usual, that makes for the no pupils and violent ki that sticks to lord slugs hand after goku crushed it
Ssj2 and ssj4 will always be my personal favorites. Ssj4 just had all that primal Saiyan power encarnated in one form. I only wish it had either stayed shades of golden yellow or all red. No black hair
But Masako, what about: Future Goku? Xeno Goku? Super Saiyan Grade 2 Goku? Super Saiyan Grade 3 Goku? Full Power Super Saiyan Goku? Great Ape Goku? Kaioken Goku? False Super Saiyan Goku? Masako Nozawa Goku? Sean Schemmel Goku? Abridged Goku? Dragon Ball Evolution Goku? Ok, I'll stop there.:P
I really enjoyed the UI transformation, it isn't used as often, yet..., and the original transformation wasn't just a 'Boop, I can do that now', with no buildup...
@@fruitfarmfactory7901 Well he has a point, UI is the only new transformation that didn't become commonly used and useless right after it showed up (unlike ssjg and ssjb).
I'm personally not a fan of UI . Apart from the mushin stuff,it doesn't translate as something new on screen. You basically just have to imagine it in your head because they have TOLD you what it does . And neither does the animation nor choreography compliment it either. We've had crazy scenes with characters dodging at insane speeds since Z and even OG DB days like Goku vs Cell etc. Now just because they animate it in slow motion , play loud music in the background and tell you he's moving before thinking, I'm supposed to pretend something really impressive is going on on screen. Nah, It just doesn't pull me in .
7:53 Thank you, Masako. That always bugged me a bit that whenever characters switch bodies, their voices go with them. Like it'd be impossible to remember there was a body swap otherwise.
My favorites were Super Saiyan God and Ultra Instinct. How Goku got SSG was very interesting, he was actually troubled in how he had to rely on his friends and family in order to achieve it. That was very fascinating for me. Plus it has that weird healing power that never got shown again in the series. Ultra Instinct was really interesting in how Goku achieved it. He first achieved an incomplete version of it by accident then just completed it later. I love how he acts while in UI, quiet and focused. Only speaking when he needs to.
Well, Vegeta got his new form which is basically more pride than calmness and Goku got his kaioken, which is like a flame on top of a leaf. Pretty strong but it destroys the leaf like Gokus body. Without the calm before their new found and evolved powers of blue, they wouldn't be able to control it tho.
@@Excalis3344 God Forms are joke now, they are no diffrent from normal ssj forms except for the fact that they are stronger (but so are the opponents so it doesn't change anything, they still get their ass whooped even as ssjb most of the time) and have diffrent hair and aura color, it's just a super sayian with a hairdye. In Battle of Gods ssjg was a big deal, a new level of power we have never seen before but later they got asspull ssjb so ssjg is useless now and all enemies caught up or surpassed those god forms so nothing really changed.
@@fly672 True. I always say that they should have sticked with ssjg. I think they did ssjb because blue was a more godly and calm color (edit: and for kaioken), but then they should have made ssjg in blue color in the first place, which they regret not doing.
This may come as a surprise, but I love the Great Ape (Oozaru) transformation. It was as unsettling, as it was impactful. Toriyama managed to achieve, and exceed the terror brought on by werewolves in the first place. It was a terrible secret that was kept away from him, primarily to spare him from grief. And keep in mind, Kami probably witnessed the destruction of Garlic Junior's castle, and what happened to Grandpa Gohan. Makes you wonder if he agreed to take Goku on out of remorse.
Well it makes more sense. It's breaking down the barriers between the ozaru and sayain forms. Even the red coloring is representing of the primal sayain bloodlust.
I moreso refer to ssj4 and 5 as primal forms, but neither individually as such. But it's got a good ring, maybe if ssj4 becomes cannon that's what theyll call it
*Random question:* Would you play a game that was based on Saiyan's early history and you had to take control of the planet from the Tuffle's and Plantians people; travel the universe 'colonising' planets all the while your character rises up the ranks to become the Leader/King of the Saiyan race?
I honestly would get that in a heartbeat, that game sounds interesting and so long as you get to choose what you look like, what gender you are, and can choose who you side with once frieza shows up, it'd make for a pretty great game to play. Maybe even make it so that way at a certain part, you can save the planet/escape and have your own adventures in space, maybe even get to take part in the events of the story, but without the main cast of characters from the show so that way you dont have to compete with goku (that or make it so you can either eliminate them or befriend them and the story would change according to the choices you make)
Base: 3/5 Great Ape: 2/5 Kaioken: 3.5/5 Super Saiyan: 5/5 Super Kaioken: 3/5 Super Saiyan 2: 2.5/5 (Looks almost no different from 1) Super Saiyan 3: 5/5 Golden Ape: 5/5 Super Saiyan 4: 5/5 Super Saiyan God: 4/5 Super Saiyan Blue: 3.5/5 Blue Kaioken: 5/5 Mastered Blue: 4/5? Ultra Instinct: 4/5 Complete Ultra Instinct: 10/5
My list would be... {Without base forms} 1- SSJ, SSJ4 and UIO 2- SSJ3, SSJG, MUI {Manga} 3- SSJ2, SSJB 4- MUI {anime}, ASSJ I had to put MUI twice because how was archived in the anime and manga is different, for me had more meaning in the manga regardless of the results, and feels more "Balanced" tho i like UIO more despite all.
You're right. I'm not 100% sure about the Masako Nozawa's performances, but Sean Schemmel gives each transformation a different voice. This is normally to represent a behavioral and/ or physical change in Goku.
Off the top of my head my favorite Saiyan transformations are: Oozaru, Fruit of the Tree of Might, rage Broly, LSSJ, mystic gohan, kaioken, SSJ, super Vegeta, and SSJ4. they seem more unique to me and some have drawbacks. Better than palette swaps and just raw power boosts
Kid Goku is my favorite. It’s A classic, introduces us to the pure heart of the character, is a joy to watch on an adventure, innocence and I can go on and onward.
Great video dude, brought up a lot of interesting points about each form. For me my favourites are SSJ1, Kid Goku, SSJG and SSJ3. Yeah I said it, I didn't know that form was hated so much. Maybe it's just the nostalgia talking but I like the distinctive and bizarre look with the long hair, lightning and ridiculous power output. And at least with Goku's first use of it his demeanour was calm, assertive and serious with a lower tone of voice.
I actually love how UI Goku has 3D effects over a 2D image, and it actually looks artistically intentional. It's like an actual, otherworldly power that can't fully be comprehended. Also I love super saiyan 3's design, even if it's completely storyline irrelevant. I think it looks kewl and I do not care to hear otherwise.
Basic God is my fav. It's very relaxed and the crimson red is just beautiful. Not to mention, I am not a big fan of the super Saiyan hair and super bulky muscles and the edgy eyes.
my personal top 3 - 3. Base Goku, first half of Z. its just a good character design and all around iconic 2. Super Saiyan 4/GT adult. Seeing kid goku again, but also him being more mature than ever and demonstrating a genuine concern for the wellbeing of others that was absent in other gokus is great, while keeping his usual attitude. 1. Super Saiyan god. Its so good that they showed a conflict within Goku about wanting to be stronger but only wanting it in an ethical way. It adds a neat level of depth to what was prior just a flat character.
I’d lean toward Kid/Teen Goku simply because (probably a terrible reason but) Dragon Ball is my favourite part of the story. Also my favourite Goku fights mostly consist of Kid/Teen Goku (specifically Goku vs Tenshinhan in the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai, which is my favourite fight in the entire franchise). As for Super Saiyan forms for Goku, I can’t decide between Super Saiyan, 4 & God since they’re all absolutely amazing.
Symbiote Veil exactly that actually. The white hair kinda throws the whole thing off for me. Just the silver eyes and aura makes it seem more divine i guess you can say with the way they were hyping it up leading up to it being mastered.
Wait... SSJ4 is multiplier on top of Golden Ape Golden Ape multiples on top of SSJ3 so... SSJ4 >> Golden Ape >> SSJ3 But people say SSJ4 = 10x SSJ3 ???
Uh, what? Golden Great Ape has nothing to do with Super Saiyan 3. It's just the Super Saiyan version of the Great Ape form. Don't forget Vegeta used Golden Great Ape too and he never unlocked Super Saiyan 3.
@@danixmax9159 Right... I don't think anyone would argue with that based on what happened in GT. If your point is that people say Super Saiyan 4 has the same multiplier as Golden Great Ape, ignore them. Super Saiyan 4 has never had an official multiplier and multipliers haven't made sense in Dragon Ball for years anyway.
@@CaptainScarLeg It does have the same multiplier as Golden great ape, but ssj3 has nothing to do with it. It’s just Golden great ape condensed down into a human form, like Brolys wrathful form, but super saiyan
Hey Masako, can you do a character ranking of ALL the characters, perhaps in how deep a character is? For example, old Broly and Goku basically having no personality, but Vegeta being a super dynamic character.
i like Ginyu Goku because it represents Goku's power is a culmination of what he learned through all the years. Also sine we're talking about Grandpriest Goku Xeno Goku is a 5/5
Yeah, Phil Vazquez is a talented upcoming artist who has contributed a lot of art for myself and other Dragon Ball communities. He provided this artwork during the art challenge for the Super finale last year; felt it was good to wheel this gem out again.
The other cool thing about the red god form is that it gives Goku the pallet usually associated with Son Wu Kong, the divinely superpowered monkey he is loosely based off of.
@@pinolyzerproductionsinc.1062 But Turles was designed to show the "evil" side of Goku . Like if he didn't became a gentle kid, he will become a Turles like guy
super saiyan and ultra instinct is my favourite forms, they show the serious side of goku which is rare to see but when seen it really is a treat, overall they both give you the reminder of why it's good that goku's good.
I always loved SSJ2 Goku. It may be because it isn't used often, but I think the things I like the most are that it is fairly simple design-wise and it adds the little lightnings going around, which look badass.
8:48 Hot take, it's because Goku's VA isn't that good (dubed specifically, haven't watched subbed). I'm sorry, I know it's nostalgic to a lot of you, but they're really just not that good.
I know it's a bone of contention, but I have to agree with the opinion that SS2 Goku (and SS2 Vegeta) is quite possibly Goku's most boring and pointless iteration. Yes I know SS2 has it's fans, but it was really only ever special for Gohan, and only when he very first achieved it while fighting Cell. Heck, it wasn't even really a distinct transformation back then, just Gohan finally going all out, releasing the full potential of both SS combined with his own innate rage boost. To me that's why Goku and Vegeta obtaining SS2 was always irrelevant. They never held back in the first place back like Gohan did, and so for them SS2 was just an unremarkable power up that added little no affect on either their personality or appearance. I think it's also rather telling that SS2 was never even really named as such until Goku was giving his speech about transformations to Babidi and Buu. It only ever really became the definitive second tier to set up the nomenclature for the soon to follow reveal of SS3. Speaking of SS3, I'll also stand by the contentious opinion that it is one of the best "evolutions" out of all the SS variations. Whereas almost every other variation of SS is just a straight upgrade improving all of the saiyan's abelites and rendering all previous variations obsolete, SS3 has drawbacks and so can't just be used with reckless abandon. This is a trait it really only shares with Trunks' ultra power weighted variation of SS.
I'm gonna be that guy and say that SS4 is IMO one of the worst designed transformation for both Vegeta and Goku. And I am talking specifically how they are designed, not how thematically they work. The maroon fur on it's own really looks silly and in conjunction with the eye liner and longer hair, it just does way too much, not to mention is basically makes Goku unrecognizable. Then there is the color choices with the rest of the look, the piss colored pants just completely clashes with the fur. The blues of the waist band, wrist bands and ankle bands are two different shades of blue. It just lacks any real unity and feels like someone just slapped some color on it. Vegeta's design isn't any better, mainly because of they opted to have his brown hair be more pronounced, and in conjunction with his red fur, navy blue jeans and lavender gloves it again feels like a hodgepodge of colors. Vegeta's design in GT in general was a major step down, regular clothing works as a one off thing, but Vegeta looks best in his regular Saiyan attire or the one that Bulma made for him. Xeno Goku fixes the color problem by having a more unified color pallet, but that doesn't help that SS4 as whole just feels like an over designed mess. Vegeta really can't be saved though, even his Xeno version just looks silly in SS4.
Hey cool vid, but my thing about ssjb is that yes it is tranquil on its own but goku and almost every other saiyan has trained to maintain ssj without any loss in stamina. Fpssj more like it. So we just never saw a change in the two because goku and vegeta aren’t angry in ssj like they were when they first transformed.
@MasakoX, what do you think of Super Saiyan Rage, Enraged SSJ2, Berserker, Legendary Super Saiyan even though it's pretty much the same thing, Wrathful Form, False Super Saiyan, Saiyan Beyond God which you forgot to put in this video unless I missed it, Evolution Blue, Ultimate Gohan, Spirit Bomb Absorbed Goku, and Sword of Hope Trunks? You should make a video on those. You also forgot Ultra Full Power Super Saiyan 4 unless you just decided not to count it.
SSJ3, SSJG, and Ultra Instinct (Omen and mastered) are my personal favorite forms. Hope you're ready to read lol. I like SSJ because it's iconic but it turned from a legendary transformation to a very common one. Basically the first step of new strength. SSJ2 is alright. I mean it is pretty cool with Gohan, but he got older (Same for Goku and the others) it almost too similar to SSJ. It's a bit spikier, and has lighting effects. Probably because of the hair being short. Caulifla with SSJ2 looked pretty cool though. Probably because her long hair with her sharpen eyes helps distinguish the differences. SSJ3 was the go to form for me back before Super. I know it's definitely considered useless now, but I looked at it as a risked factor. To me it was like the Kaioken of SSJ transformation. Also he only uses it when push comes to shove and treats the form as the last resort. (unlike a certain blue form). Also this form had me curious on how would it be like if he mastered this form. Ok, SSJ4. *sigh* This form is boring to me. Yes yes I know it's "cool" because of how it looks and the concept...but that's all there is to it. Just looks... A powerup with a different look. My take is, if it looks really different why can't the form do something unique that truly makes it stands out from the previous transformations beside looks? How about make the form Magic based since the design is so close of being Sun Wukong? And give him the power pole back along with it? Potential Wasted. SSJG was so cool when it was first shown in theater. I liked the method of achieving this form which brought some lore of the Sayians, Goku's reaction to the form was also great. Him had to adjust the new type of strength and speed he gain. (Unlike SSJ4 where he just used to right off the back). SSJB...Well I can give it props that both Goku and Vegeta did trained to achieve this form and I liked how Goku could stack Kaioken along with it. But here comes the problems I have with the form. (Something other than the design) It didn't leave a good first impression. This form was supposed to be stronger than SSJG which hold it's own against Beerus at his 70% power (Plus the fact being trained by Whis), was getting beaten by Frieza's new form who only trained for 6 months. Not only that, Blue has been used so frequently in the show that it doesn't seem be special anymore. It's been commonly used too much.I don't exactly hate the form, I'm just disappointed on the direction they did with it. Ultra Instinct both Omen and Mastered are my new absolute favorites. It's not exclusive to only Saiyans, but anyone can use. In fact I don't think it's considered a transformation but rather the state of being. It's something that is not easily achieve through normal means. I love the idea about the body moving on it's own without thinking. Also the fact that, just like SSJ3 except useful, it's more like a last resort type deal. As in, in a critical moment there might be chances of him being able to use the form. So this is my take on the forms so far.
Curious on your thoughts Masako, but could you do a what if super lead into Gt? It’d be neat to see a better story line of gt from your perspective, and if you actually are interested might I suggest having Goku try to teach Oob ultra instinct? It’d be weird considering he’s never been trained to fight yet, but maybe Goku realizes the key to ultra instinct is to not have a preset fighting style. Thanks in advance!
visually I really like ultra instinct's look when it was just mastered with goku completely obscured by light. it gave the form an indescribable feeling that the gods kept stressing. but then the veil came off and left him with the silver aura he had the first time.
I really liked SS2 as well. It seemed so under-appreciated and under-utilized, but I can understand why even Toriyama forgot about it. The most oddly interesting thing about it is also the thing that makes it forgettable: It looks so similar to the first super saiyan form. One of the reasons I recall hearing that more characters, namely Vegeta, were never shown achieving SS3 form was because Toriyama was afraid of making the characters' faces look too similar in that form. I'm not sure that was something that was as big a problem as he seemed to believe, but SS2 is very hard to see in characters like Vegeta. His hair looks the same in base form and SS form, though with blonde hair. SS2 though? Not distinct enough to really be noticeable for Vegeta, you need to look really carefully and just kinda let the story happen without thinking too much at other times.
My fav is Super saiyan 4 Goku, he looks so badass and Goku is more serious when being in that form. Remainds me of the days when Goku became first super saiyan towards Frieza being all serious.
I'm glad to see you guys cover SSJ2. Not many people talk about it, which sucks IMO. I do like SSJ2, so much in fact that despite him being able to use other Super Saiyan forms, I made SSJ2 the primary/main form of my saiyan OC.

DelCaptain I actually quite liked it as well, it seems like a form of super saiyan with not the full power of normal ssj and the rage part takes over more than usual, that makes for the no pupils and violent ki that sticks to lord slugs hand after goku crushed it

@@fruitfarmfactory7901 Well he has a point, UI is the only new transformation that didn't become commonly used and useless right after it showed up (unlike ssjg and ssjb).

UI is a technique, not a transformation
I'm personally not a fan of UI . Apart from the mushin stuff,it doesn't translate as something new on screen. You basically just have to imagine it in your head because they have TOLD you what it does . And neither does the animation nor choreography compliment it either. We've had crazy scenes with characters dodging at insane speeds since Z and even OG DB days like Goku vs Cell etc. Now just because they animate it in slow motion , play loud music in the background and tell you he's moving before thinking, I'm supposed to pretend something really impressive is going on on screen. Thank you, Masako.
Ginyu: I like dat body of yours!
*Two decades later*
Zamasu: Hm.. I'm intrigued by the body of this mortal.
ss blue should have had a calm collected fighting style since to go there you had to calm your mind but they dropped that
Well, Vegeta got his new form which is basically more pride than calmness and Goku got his kaioken, which is like a flame on top of a leaf.

@@Excalis3344 Well, the form is a dissappointment.

After all this time, I absolutely agree. Next week's discussion will be geared towards thinking of ways to fix SSB. :)
Because it's first appearance makes sense. What would come after God? God with SSJ. And who better to use it on then the very man who felt SSJs wrath.

*Random question:* Would you play a game that was based on Saiyan's early history and you had to take control of the planet from the Tuffle's and Plantians people; travel the universe 'colonising' planets all the while your character rises up the ranks to become the Leader/King of the Saiyan race?
Hell yeah
Project Z DLC:
Salad Saga with King Vegeta father as the main character.

Not to mention, I am not a big fan of the super Saiyan hair and super bulky muscles and the edgy eyes.

my personal top 3 -
3. Base Goku, first half of Z. its just a good character design and all around iconic

I always loved SSJ2 Goku. It may be because it isn't used often, but I think the things I like the most are that it is fairly simple design-wise and it adds the little lightnings going around, which look badass.
"So many gokus,so through muffin"
Completely agree with you on everything
Am I making stuff up or are ssj3 and ssg the only forms that have never gotten a win?
Ssjb gogeta
What if Goku beat cell in the cell games
When I seen Goku ssj3 in Dbz Janemba movie for the first time during my childhood days. I went crazy hype jumping all over my room.
Vegeta really can't be saved though, even his Xeno version just looks silly in SS4.
finally, that guy.
Goku's fur isn't maroon, though. It's pinkish-red. Were you thinking of magenta?
But why be that guy?
That Goku Black segment was brilliant and the best.

This practically identical to mine.
I can see this.
Well, SSJ4 is obviously at -100/10, the other forms are between 7/10 and 10/10...
12:11 so did Masako get it wrong or where the visuals incorrect?
Nice to see Ssj4 at top and doing the Akuma Critical Raging Demon pose.
The SSB colors in Broly were a MAAAAJOR upgrade! I loved it.
My favourite one is definently ssj 3. It still gives me chills watching the dub voice actor scream. And the design is so cool to lool at.
My fav is Super saiyan 4 Goku, he looks so badass and Goku is more serious when being in that form. Remainds me of the days when Goku became first super saiyan towards Frieza being all serious.
