How $1.5 Billion Was Allegedly Stolen In Pakistan | The Big Steal
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 чер 2022
- The Bhuttos are amongst a few hundred feudal families, mostly large landowners, that have dominated politics and business in Pakistan since its creation in 1947. In the eyes of the west, Pakistan’s Benazir Bhutto was a beacon of democracy and a staunch foe of Muslim extremism, but at home, the slain opposition leader was a controversial figure, mired in allegations of corruption and accused of acquiring wealth, worth over 1.5 billion dollars.

My grandmother remembered when she came into power twice. She told me that she did nothing for women. Instead she made corruption mainstream in Pakistan. Her only achievement according to my grandmother was bring Cable/Satellite TV.
💯
No ones perfect!
The main problem in asia is worship of personalities hailing from big families until this changes and we have leaders from grass root nothing can change.
Don't make it whole Asia's problem. There may be few instances but there are countries like india, Singapore that dont follow this.
China doesn’t have this big family problem, current India too doesn’t have this problem. So it’s not a asia problem but a Pakistan problem. Former pm Imran Khan doesn’t belong to a big family so why did you kick him out
Thats changing now. Look at how much support IK has. Next election is easily his unless they manage to jail him or remove him by other means
As usual a Pakistani thinks whole world is as illiterate as they are :). Pakistan is worse than Sri lanka. They are selling there daughters to China to make money but news is being suppressed.
@@palboy3565 even india does not have this problem now..
It was great of VICE to get Atom Araullo aboard the team. I may have some bias for famous Filipino figures in journalism, I just love seeing Filipino representation in VICE.
So basically you want it to be gayer....great😂
This isn't even 'casual' corruption. This is 'making my great, great, great, great, great, great, great, grandchildren' billionaires level corruption.
Some people really have no shame.
What's so jarring is that the first time I heard about Mrs Bhutto was through a BBC podcast on 'great figures' in history and they were so glowing and almost sickly. But I bought into it hard *sigh* 😔
She did what they all do at least she added some positive reform ideas to mainstream politics as she did it... I'm not saying it's ok just that it seems to be the norm in these places and honestly in the west to a lesser degree but they are no less selfish and doing wealth gaining from their political career
Same.
Peasants are born to provide for their betters. It is the greatest honor.
This country is a mess
Story could be told without the weird, pandering slow motion shots of the reporter walking up stairs...
Reporters who still realise that it's actually about the story and not them is a very rare breed.

@0:55 - Shah Nawaz Bhutto was not Prime Minister of Sindh (there was no PM on Sindh). He was however the Dewan of Junagadh for a very short time.

This is why I love Vice--the willingness to tell the story of mass corruption when every other news outlet is busy telling the same narrative.

You are underestimated our corrupt leaders 😛. They are more corrupt than your's.😝😝😝
I'm Pakistani and this video is really well presented. I'd like to point out that unfortunately, we as a nation have failed and are 'corrupt' individually and while its easy to blame the government and leadership, we repudiate reforms and objective policies that shape each one of us.
Illiteracy and paucity of quality education is still the biggest issue we face today and it'd now require at least decades of work by honest and loyal politicians to make us stand on our feet again!
May Allah guide us all! Amen.
Glad to see someone from Pakistan who has a hold on reality, most I came across blame everything on India, hope things change and everyone in Pakistan thinks like you brother

Me too! Especially in our country! Why isn’t Vice focused on the mounting corp and political corruption in the US?
Note to the editor: We need more footage of the narrator walking and still shots of statues, please.
Her party is fully 200% corrupted now her son is exterior minister
What about the role of the army in all this? While corruption exists in the civil government - I wonder what the relationship is like between the government and army.
Since yesterday was the anniversary of the nepali royal massacre,I think a video looking at it and the mystery surrounding it would be great and revitalize questions surrounding it.
Thank you for these article pieces
I think her legacy and story would make a fascinating musical: Benazir!
Don't cry for me, Pakistan!
There's a great law and order criminal intent episode on these real life public figures. I just saw it 2 days ago..
I think I saw this doc. a month ago.
Is it de ja vu?
My family was close friends with hers before we cut ties due to political differences (over Karachi). We've lived in Dubai for over 40 years and visited them at least twice in the 90s. I can confidently say that $1.5 billion is a nearly negligible fraction of what they actually plundered from Pakistan. At first, I didn't think she deserved to die the way she did, but after seeing the deprived state of interior Sindh on a trip there a few years ago, I changed my mind.
If this comment of yours is true I thank you for your info. Do you still visit Pakistan time to time?
Pakistani expat in Dubai living comfortably? Your family must have been involved in some level of corruption to be able to achieve that.
The vice is one of the best news channels out there which gives an unbiased opinion.
Benazir was a very sick woman. Not the saint that most people make her out to be.

Oh God a corrupt politician, same old thing greed, greed n more greed when ur peeps r poor as hell 😳
What people call corruption here is literally legal in almost everywhere in the world, except for the money laundering thing. And even that is done by far more people per country abroad.
We have made a stupid problem an existential problem.

We are fed up with these bhutto and sharif names….
Now our last hope is IMRAN KHAN
The real joke here is "Democratcially Elected"
There can be no true democracy in a theocracy, religion simply wouldn't allow it and is too arrogant and fascistic by nature to allow the people to choose their own representatives. It's Islam that does for Pakistan.
so, she's almost like the Pakistani version of margaret thatcher... it all makes sense lmao
I really like this journalist
Her husband had her done to get the party and seat ...... Everyone knows that.
Why suddenly international media is interested in benazir bhutto?

this is why imran khan is a legend hes been telling us for 20 years
Is this what inspired that episode of Law and order: criminal intent ...
Only $1.5 billion? By Pakistani standards, that's not much. The Bhuttos were too lazy to steal even more.
i am disappointed in this video, it lacks the understanding about the politics of pakistan and what role army plays in it. he is saying her govt has dismissed but saying always for corruption..poor and shoddy journalism
Her government was dismissed by the President not the Army Chief.
Regardless of why her government was dismissed, she was a corrupt politician

They have grape pilot and children who would sacrifice their life for Pakistan so ofcourse they can beat USA.

It's because she's a woman and in both countries🇮🇳 India and Pakistan🇵🇰 the law , police , society , Media always focuses and will focus on The Men indulged in crimes, corruption, murders and all that but when women take the charge whether it's Benazir , Mariyam Nawaz or any other powerful female . Every watchful eye suddenly turns into a blind eye as if it doesn't understand.
The thing you'll hear from everyone is "hamare ghar me bhi maye behne hai"
