The study found that using Transpara allowed the doctors to find more cases of breast cancer compared to not using AI (0.82% vs 0.70%). It also reduced incorrect positive results from 2.39% to 1.63%.
Importantly, the AI helped detect more small cancers of 1 cm or less (44.93% vs 36.60%). Catching cancers early makes them easier to treat.
Using Transpara also reduced the workload on doctors by over 33%! Doctors had to recall 20% fewer women for additional testing when using the AI.
The researchers say more studies are still needed, but AI assistance could help overworked breast cancer doctors save a lot of time while improving patient care.
