What I think I see immediately is that the graphical aesthetic feels different. I feel it is less saturated and therefore less mobile game looking. And I like that change.
I wouldn't say it's a glitch. Bias means higher chance to spawn next to certain type of land, but nothing is guarenteed. You have a chance (but low ofc) to spawn nowhere near what your civ might be happy with.
Hockey is something you do on a green (or blue) field using a stick and a ball. Unless you are Canadian, then you do it on ice. The rest of the world plays along because we feel sorry for them :-)
@@RoseSolane Apart from the brutality in the sport, isn't it more fun to ice-skate your way across the field, instead of running? Ahhh, I was waiting for this ...finally we have Canada! Sorry, I do apologise for my excitement here but I've been playing Civ since the original release in '91 and Canada was always on my mind. I hope Halifax will show up at some point.
Honestly I'm actually really happy you got a no tundra start, since this will actually show how good Canada is in a less than ideal situation, which in my opinion is more valuable than seeing how the civ fairs in optimal conditions.
Just picked up Civ VI thanks to the Steam Summer Sale. I absolutely love the idea of a Diplomacy Victory and that made me jump on Canada. Made me wonder who Wilfrid Laurier was. "If it were in my power, and if I had the responsibility, I would try the sunny way." I don't have context for a lot of what he did, but just uniting English and French Canada is an amazing accomplishment. And his whole attitude is exactly what I want in a world leader. I wonder if I'll ever play Civ as anyone else again.
Imagine if rivers changed course as the game went on. For example that big bend to the south of your capitol could suddenly change to going straight and create an oxbow lake, while areas that were previously straight could start bending. It would be a really interesting feature, but at the same time it would be hard to balance. Either you would constantly annoy the player by ruining their layouts or it would be so rare that players probably wouldn't notice when it happens.
The tundra farms thing still feels off to me. I think you'll agree with me quill, Canada's tundra is pretty uninhabited and we definitely don't farm it. Even with farms, a tundra city is gonna have less food or production than a non-tundra city (equal to the population in fact, a 10-pop tundra city is 10 less food than a 10-pop grassland city and 10 less production than a 10-pop plains city). They made a big deal out of the fact that it means no one else will try to compete for your land, but really, that's not a huge deal, is it? A Canadian tundra city still ends up weaker than a Canadian grassland or plains city. The fact that we can't have surprise wars declared against us sort of rules out the possibility of any unexpected aggression over our land to begin with, so I feel a bit like we've been given the scraps that no one else wants.
I fully agree that it's a bit of an underwhelming bonus, but I think it also kind of works for Canada. You settle in the warmer areas first, which accurately reflects population distribution in Canada, and then you slowly expand northward in bits and pieces. You'll probably still be primarily in warmer locales, but you'll be able to live and thrive in the north as well. Most people aren't going to focus on those lands, so as a result you'll be able to grow into them, and more easily become one of the larger nations in the world, which also suits Canada. I'd have preferred another bonus, but I see the logic behind it.
@@Abyssionknight I get the point, and that might be what Firaxis was going for, but it doesn't change the fact that Tundra cities are still bad. The only advantage that provide is the ability to build a hockey rink at the end of the game and the potential that someone else might not settle that area. If you could choose between tundra and grassland or plains, avoiding tundra is still probably your best bet. Blizzards have no benefits to Canada and can only pillage tiles and damage cities and units, which sucks. Tundra cities should be mostly avoided as Canada unless you're close to or can build hockey rinks AND there are no other spots left. Subjecting your city to hundreds of turns of poor food or production is not worth +6 culture at the end of the game.
They’re like the cold climate version of Australia, geared thematically towards peaceful expansion into unappealing terrain (desert or tundra). Makes sense, but maybe they should have got ‘fur trapping company’ or something that acted like the Outback Station which would be a bit stronger but for camps on tundra/snow, instead of pastures on desert/grassland.
I don't know why but I found it really funny in the beginning with those barb encampments "This as gotten very dangerous all of a sudden... very dangerous."

Stone on a hill should always be removed anyway. There are other ways to get food, and not enough ways to get production. The mine will be more valuable later. Plus you get some production out of it from removing it so it's kind of a no-brainer to remove it and place a campus there.
