I tried the Chanel CC cream when it first came out. I recall it was 50 spf, heavily scented (as Chanel products are), emphasized my texture slightly, had light to medium coverage, was slightly drying, had a bit too much pink for my liking, and wore well for about 6 hrs. It wasn't horrible but it wasn't worth the $85 I paid for it. I can get just as good a performance for half that price from IT Cosmetics CC cream or Missha Perfect Cover BB cream.

Hi Michelle! I have a note on SPF, I see some other comments about this as well: I would be careful about depending on a base product to give you the protection you need. Companies are not "lying" when they put the SPF / PA ratings on their packaging, but it is confusing to consumers because that is a regulated claim for how much protection a product gives when applied 2 mg per 1 cm2 and not a "the protection we get for the usual amount we would use for this product's function." (e.g. if a foundation says SPF 50 but we only use a pea size for nice coverage, we're not getting the SPF 50 protection). The general rule of thumb is that to get the stated SPF protection on a product we need to apply around 1/4 measuring teaspoon which we basically would never do with a foundation! And as a side note, an SPF 50 foundation, sunscreen or moisturizer all mean when the same amount of those different types of products are applied, the protection is the same. (Same testing for the regulated labeling.)
For a fun but science based beauty info I highly recommend Lab Muffin Beauty Science! E.g. How Much Sunscreen Do You Need For Your Face? ua-cam.com/video/NKS5kMbZBlk/v-deo.html
Also I really appreciate your review, Michelle! Especially how you don't add concealers etc. so we see just how the product wears is fantastic. Thanks for your dedication to showing us! ♡

I looked it up online at apparently, the old CC cream only contained titanium dioxide as a sunscreen ingredient. The new one has that plus zinc oxide which is an amazing UVA filter and octinoxate. So while it's still SPF 50, the ingredients in it to filter the UV light are better.

This is the newest version of Chanel's CC cream and I just tried it and I like it a lot. I also have dry skin this also can be worn with foundation on top of it; this formula is much lighter in texture and more translucent then the original so it can be worn mixed with your regular foundation. I also like the spf 50.

This is a really good review ! I actually agree , it sits in the lines and infact enhances them , from a distance looks good but up close definitely sits in the lines .... it’s also kind of thick and greasy feels like I’m applying loads of thick sunscreen on my face

Long time fan, but first time commenter! Your look is verrrryyyyy CHANEL, the blouse is lovely! We have the same preferences/aesthetics in the appearance/feel of the skin, and all this time I watch I am always shouting at the damn screen recommending one of my favorite bases for you! That being said you MUST try the Dr Hauschka Tinted Day Cream darling. GORGEOUS finish, feel, and ingredient list. I’ve tried EVERYTHING on the market advertised towards us scaly eczema ridden gals, and although it has LIGHT coverage, it is hands down the most plumping, hydrating, and nourishing I’ve tried of the bunch (INCLUDING clea de peu’s “foundation”)! You’re welcome 😘

I feel like i have to do a review on the original now because i absolutely love it. I think that your skin looks very nice on camera after the 4.5 hour mark.. I just read the ingredient deck on the box and it has peach extract for line reducing effect and hyaluronic acid. The new version is deffo runnier whereas old one is thicker. My older formula wears medium to heavy coverage and is very dewy also. Covers every bit of redness and blemish and no real need for concealer. I wore it everyday when i did a 2.5 week tour of the West Coast USA and i never got one bit of colour on my face. It was and is fanatstic, Its a little heavy for normal every day wear. It is SPF50 also. Hope this helps Michelle, xxx

I remember the original CC Cream looked very patchy and opaque on my dry skin. So I had my mom try it since she has a normal to oily skin and she loved it. ( She is a dedicated Chanel user. She never gets bored of the loose powder, lipsticks, and their perfumes. ) After watching your video, I get a feeling this new one is going to be too dry on me 🤔🤔🤔. You just save me $$$ and a trip to the store.lol. Thank you for that! Love the fresh lip color on you today! It goes so well with your eye makeup. Very chic and urban!

I contacted Chanel and was told "The new CC Cream is very similar to the previous formula and we have expanded our color range." In other words it seems it hasn't changed much at all. There used to be 3 shades and now there are 5. I am using the old formula (also SPF 50) and it does take some time to dry down. I definitely wait longer than I would with most foundations before powdering and find I need less powder in fewer areas this way.

i love the chanel fragrance 😃 the older version is more « pastey » in texture, resulting in a higher coverage, and came in spf30. the current formula is more runny and blends better into the skin. i like it on weekends when i’ve only errands to run while looking put together without having to be too va va voom. it looks great on you ! i’m inspired to wear it more often now hahah - paired with the chanel loose powder of course, which has been a favourite of mine for more than 10years ! x

I had the old version of this, the spf was always 50, also the packaging looks the same to me. I absolutely loved the old formula. It had very decent coverage, was heavily fragranced ( which can be a big problem for some but not for me), the finish was dewy and beautiful on me. I actually hope it wasn't changed too much. 😫

I don't get the purpose of BB/CC creams in higher end companies. It seems like most luxury brands tout skin care ingredients in their foundations anyway so how are CC creams different?

  • @Rosa7388
    @Rosa7388 6 років тому

I'm just speculating, but I think the differing regulations on sunscreens around the world have contributed to there being differing SPF options. Perhaps there have also been different reformulations for the product over the years for different markets according to various climates and regulations so they can achieve a similar standard of effectiveness in the product.

I really like your makeup in this video! The blusher and the lipstick are to die for and they suit you so well! I remember I got the original one when it first launched. It only launched in Japan and Taiwan first and I happened to be in Taiwan at that time and I got it. I really loved it and one of the rare makeup product that I actually finished off. When the product come to the U.K. and US, I heard it was not the same formula than the one I got in Taiwan. I actually never tried it so I can not compare. I have dry skin and I did not find the Chanel CC drying at all (again, I never tried the versions that were sold in the U.K. and US). I hate most BB and CC creams since they are usually too drying for my skin (I must be the only one who hates the IT Cosmetics CC cream - I look a 100 years old when I’m wearing it and it dries out my skin so badly), but I loved the Chanel. My other favorite is the Estée Lauder DD cream - besides of the ridiculous name, it is beautiful, dewy and moisturising.

I believe that prior to 2015, there was an SPF 30 version. It contained parabens. The version from 2015 with SPF 50 doesn't look that different from the current version. They are using the same sunscreen chemicals, only reducing the percentage of one of these, but not upping the other two sunscreen ingredients. It looks like they switched from one moisturizing fruit extract to another one. I had the 2015 version and returned it. It was too drying, but I will probably pass on this one as unless I am in a super hurry, I prefer to use a separate European sunscreen and then a light foundation without sunscreen. Here's the 2015 ingredient list:
2015 SPF 50: Active Ingredients: Octinoxate 7.5, Titanium dioxide 3.2 Zinc oxide 15.2 Inactive Ingredients: water • caprylyl methicone • PEG-10 dimethicone • dimethicone • glycerin • phenyl trimethicone • alcohol • methyl trimethicone • butylene glycol • prunus persica (peach) leaf extract • plankton extract • glycyrrhiza glabra (licorice) root extract • prunus persica (peach) fruit extract • hydrogenated polyisobutene • triethoxycaprylylsilane • phenoxyethanol • dimethicone/PEG-10/15 crosspolymer • sodium chloride • stearic acid • potassium sorbate •alumina • fragrance • aluminum hydroxide • dimethicone crosspolymer • disteardimonium hectorite • sodium lauroyl glutamate • sodium hyaluronate • lysine • propylene carbonate • silica • propylene glycol • magnesium chloride • dipropylene glycol • BHT • ethylhexylglycerin • tocopherol • citric acid • sorbic acid (may contain) ultramarines • iron oxides • titanium dioxide • mica

Wayne Goss has an interesting vlog regarding SPF. You can get to it by putting Wayne Goss SPF in the UA-cam search bar or the name of is 'the biggest lie makeup companies say'. He demonstrates how much of the product you would need to apply inorder to get the sun protection benfits claimed on the product. It is MUCH more than any of us would ever use which he demonstrates in a Wanye Goss amusing way. Thoughts? I am addicted to your channel! Thank you.

I appreciated this review of the Chanel CC cream. I received a sample of it when I purchased the Les Beiges Moisturizing tint. I used it a few times to compare and while I found it had more coverage than the tint, I had hard time getting past the fragrance which doesn' t seem to be an issue with the tint. I thought it was hydrating as I have extremely dry skin. While the higher SPF is a great perk, I don't really need it now going into the Fall out East. I spend most of my time in an office and have a short commute from home to work and back. I also found that it irritated my skin a bit, but I always seem to have issues with products with higher SPFs. Between the two Chanel products and the NARS Radiant Tinted Moisturizer, I think I prefer NARS over both of them. I also think you get a bit more product with NARS even if it is a few dollars more. I will finish using the tint, however. I will say, I love how the Obscur Clair shadows look on you and I am still on the fence about whether to purchase it or not. Maybe an early birthday present. Thanks again for a your thoughts about the CC cream.

I wish luxury brands would step up and start listing ingredients. I don’t want to go to a counter to check an ingredients list. Especially since so many people are sensitive to chemical sunscreens.

I think I’ll add a few drops of face oil when I apply this.

Again; nice and thorough review ( so we expect you to be nothing less than hypercritical lol) . I have older and combination skin .
Usually i use vitalumiere aqua . The last couple of days i tried the CC Cream over crème huile reparatrice as moisturizer
I had to re- apply powder once during the day and shade 30 instead of my usual 20
Otherwise no problem whatsoever after it dried down . I can only recommend it.

I guess I'm the only one that liked the old formula. I liked that it was matte which was perfect for humid NYC weather. The old one did have spf 50 as well. I just looked at my old tube.
