Best liver is from grass fed animal! Little tip: when you put liver in the pan, fry it just a little bit on each side and don't put a salt on it. After is done, I put salt and pepper on it and diced onions with salt and pepper. On top of it I put another batch of liver and so on. If you don't salt liver while preparing it, it will hold juices and taste much better.
In Greece liver, especially beef liver, is widely eaten either fried in extra virgin olive oil liberally sprinkled with oregano, or grilled, again sprinkled with oregano and/or accompanied with sautéed onions. In either case it is delicious and we eat it from a very early age, thus we are not adverse to its taste and/or texture; on the contrary we love it! I am glad to hear you say that it is a superfood! One of my (many) culinary surprises when I migrated to the States in the late 60s had to do with my discovery, to my dismay, that liver was not...loved (to put it mildly!) but, dare I say...reviled? I love it!
Marjana Didi my wife's son-in-law is from Albania and has been in Greece for almost twenty five years; he loves it, too! And has introduced us to many of your dishes...scrumptious!
The best shape I’ve ever been on my life was when I ate liver 2 times a week. I would cook it with spices and onions. I would feel so full that sometimes I’d skip dinner end just drink a smoothie. Love it!
Same here. I previously coated the liver with flour and sautéed in butter to develop a nice crust. Since wheat flour is off the menu, I might try alternates almond and coconut flour.

I would give up the beef liver supplements because of the potentially ultra high copper content (which YOUR liver does not need to deal with). Instead switch to liver of lamb, duck or chicken in it's whole food form - and only once a week.

I started carnivore due to you and in 50 years of life I don’t believe that I ever had liver but I did look up some recipes and I love it now I don’t see what all the fuss is about. It’s really good. Thank you
We always ate liver growing up. Liver, heart, gizzards and the occasional pork brain. My Mom always called the chicken (or turkey) liver the "cook's piece" and she and I would "fight" over it. LOL! She would split it with me in the end. My husband won't eat it but I try to have some at least once a week. Going to try Neisha's pate recipe soon! Edited to add: A friend of mine makes some of the BEST Liver and onions. She has the butcher cut the liver 1/2 to 1 inch thick. Cook in bacon grease with a bit of pink in center yet and she cooks the onions separate.
I just bought beef liver. Cut a few thin slices, fried in bacon fat for 10 minutes, put some salt and ate it. Tastes great, even without soaking in milk or frying with onlions. The rest of it I will boil, then ground with some bacon, to make a 100% carnivore paste, with zero vegetable oils, sugar ir additives, unlike grocery store version.
Liver is high in vitamin A, folic acid, iron, and zinc. Liver is the most nutrient dense organ meat, and it is a powerful source of vitamin A. Vitamin A is beneficial for eye health and for reducing diseases that cause inflammation, including everything from Alzheimer's disease to arthritis.👍
Since watching one of your earlier videos on liver, I've become a true convert! I now have it 2-3 times per week and I just have to look in the mirror to know it's doing me good. Many thanks, Dr. B!
No food has blown my mind more than liver. I have felt the euphoria from eating a good steak, but I am not exaggerating when I say that liver has probably saved my life. My depression, complete with suicidal thoughts, lifted almost immediately. I encourage everyone on the carnivore diet to give it a go.
@@akinibitoye7908 my blood tests, for the past two years, some tests every three months, shows right levels in every vitamin checked and minerals. I eat 50 grams three times a week. After adding it to my already strict diet I have noticed a bump in energy and endorphins. It’s doing something. I do not eat anything different (EVER), I’m very disciplined. So when I added the liver I noticed the benefits.
I just ate liver for the first time in a couple of years and I swear I could feel the nutrients enter my body before I was finished chewing my first bite. Like a kind of energy entered my brain and body at the same time. I felt the same way when I ate freshly killed elk heart a few years back. There is no pill you can take to replicate that.

Thank you! As an Iranian, who eating liver is in our blood 🙂 I really enjoyed this video! We eat mostly lamb or chicken liver and one of our national foods is lamb liver simply cut, skewered and grilled on charcoal, served just by salt. Me personally love the liver the way I love steaks: medium rare 😋 For chicken liver I recommend you to stir fried it with chopped onions, garlic, any spices you'd like, salt and fresh lemon juice. Bon appétit !
I can attest... I've eaten desiccated liver from Ancestral Supplements for over a year and recently over the last 3 months or so I've been able to eat fresh natural liver always grass fed... and when I say eat I mean swallow but still from not able to handle the taste to craving it raw... I give that progress to the desiccated pills. Definitely give it a try if you want to take in the most nutrient dense superfood available for human consumption. Thanks Dr. Berry! Another great video!
I have been having beef liver smoothies in the morning for the last 2 weeks and feel much better. Been suffering from gut issues for more than 20yrs. I have tried many other alternatives but this was the best. Thank you.
Dr. Berry: many are out of work now and this crisis is going to last for at least the next few years. Organ meats are often a great deal, while being very densely packed with nutrition. Yet another example is chicken hears/gizzards. I hope you can provide more 'low-budget' examples of good choices.
Here's one: ALDI lately has been selling 5 lb. tubes of (unfrozen- not the stuff in the freezer which is kind of lousy) 73/27 ground beef for $8.65, which is like $1.73/lb, and it is as tasty as any hamburger I know of and I've tried it all. When I see it, I back up the truck.
Also: if Dr Berry is recommending a supplement, I'd say it's important. I think this is the first one I've seen in over 100+ of his videos I've watched. Thanks again Doc!
I’d really like a fundamental nutrition 101 from dr Berry. As in, how & when to drink water (It recently occurred to me that downing a bunch at once instead of constant sipping over time is better). The more I learn, the more I realize that even some of my basic conceptual understanding of nutrition is critically flawed (or outright missing). As such, I have zero confidence of things that “I’ve known all my life.” Thanks!!
I eat 3 oz of beef liver every other day. I puree it in a smoothie machine (with a whole egg w/shell and bone broth), mix it in a pan with grass fed ground beef, salt liberally and you don't even taste the liver. It tastes delicious. I feel so freaking good when I eat this.
Omg I want to try this. I’m just a bit confused what you mean by purée in a smoothie machine with whole egg with shell and bone broth... if you could elaborate I would be so honored! I gotta get liver in my diet and I have a feeling you nailed it!! Thanks in advance !!
@@aribernays If you just put a slice of liver in the blender it won't be liquidy enough to mix with the ground beef, so I add an egg and some bone broth. I use the eggshell because it's a great source of calcium and other nutrients, and the blender chops the shell into tiny bits which add just a little crunch to the beef, but you don't have to do this.
I didn't like liver when I started carnivore, but I went on an extended (5 day) fast and broke it with eating some beef liver, and ate it every day for the next week, and now I actually enjoy it! I try to have some a few times a week.

*HELPFUL HINT:* For those of you who can stomach chicken liver but find the taste of beef liver overwhelming. I roast a hen (chicken) in a large covered roasting pan and I put a pound of beef liver in the bottom of the pan and allow it to cook in the chicken fat and drippings. The leftovers will allow the two of us (grummpa and I), to enjoy three meals of roasted chicken and beef liver. (We eat the chicken innards too including the heart and gizzard.) There are many ways to cook liver and this may not be for everyone but beef liver roasted in a pan with organic free range chicken fat is our favorite. And it tastes like chicken liver too. Don't knock it until you try it.

It was amazing and then I wanted to know the nutritional value of it. and of course your channel popped up which was appropriate because I’ve been watching you for years. I LOVE beef liver and onions IF cooked the way I like it. Slice onions, a LOT of onions, more than you think you need, and sauté in large skillet low and slow in butter or bacon grease or beef tallow, ghee or olive oil whatever works for you. Just make sure to do it low and slow until well caramelized. Bring a pot of water to a boil put the liver in boiling water to par boil for 1-3 minutes depending on how thick it is, this take out a lot of the super strong taste. Take out and cut into bite sized pieces. Brown liver on all sides then add to skillet with onions. Cook on medium low 10-20 minutes depending on size of pieces of liver and your personal preference of doneness. This can be for dinner or breakfast. Breakfast either top with fried eggs or you can make a little well in the skillet with the liver and onions and poach your eggs right in there. Just had it for breakfast yesterday and doing the leftovers for breakfast today.
I get my butcher to add mince organs to the beef mince and I spread the mixture thinly on parchment paper n dehydrate it....so delicious...don't forget to sprinkle heaps of Redmond real salt before dehydrating it. I give some to my dogs...better than potato chips 😋

I eat calf liver 2-3x a week now since being Carnivore for over 3 months. I never liked it before, and now I love it. I prefer calf liver due to a higher vitamin A content which is specific to my needs. I highly recommend it. It's easy to mix into meatballs and the flavor is actually quite subtle if cooked right. I use cheese, eggs, and a dash of heavy cream to mix it all in. Sometimes I add bacon too. Love it!

I'd just tried raw ox liver for the first time, diced into very small pieces with some redmond sea salt with a table spoon. It wasn't great, then I tried a second tablespoon and it wasn't as bad, the third time I just chewed lightly and swollowed about 15grams no problem. Lightly salted helped.

Calves liver is much milder in flavor and more tender in my opinion, but you can soak your liver in heavy cream for a few hours in the refrigerator. It helps tenderize it and helps tone down the flavor. Onions and lots of bacon 🥓 help too. And you can fry it in the bacon grease to add more flavor and throw on some salt and pepper 😋😋
Well Dr. Ken, I tried liver for my first time since childhood, and I must say it was way more disgusting than I remember. I cooked it in salt and ghee. I forced it all down despite my gag reflex. I tried it again today (2 weeks later) and used bacon fat instead of butter along with half of a yellow onion. This was much more tolerable, but certainly not good. I very rarely eat veg, but I have to make an exception on liver day because onions are the only thing that makes this palatable to me. Most of your advice ends up coming to fruition in this house so God I hope that my palate evolves over time. Meanwhile, liver is the most difficult thing for me to eat. 😂 You have helped me tremendously. 6 weeks into carnivore, and down one waist size and 13 lbs. Thanks for all the FREE content. It does not go unappreciated!
Kerrygold butter 2T with a little oil for the onions and garlic really works wonderful for me. Kerrygold is expensive but Costco has it for a decent price and is well worth it. I would recommend Costco just for Kerrygold butter. It is the only butter we use in our home. For liver it is a must.

Is it OK to have a liver meal once a week or are we much better spreading it through the week? It depends on how long our bodies can hold onto the nutrition. I often hear about having x amount per day or 2 servings per week. Just wondering what's optimum and how much your body can absorb from a larger meal (like 200g of liver per time)

Best liver is from grass fed animal! Little tip: when you put liver in the pan, fry it just a little bit on each side and don't put a salt on it. After is done, I put salt and pepper on it and diced onions with salt and pepper. On top of it I put another batch of liver and so on. How long have you done carnivore? And how do you response to the diet?
Had to watch this video to help me get through my beef liver meal. Thank you. It worked. I ate every bite. Im so proud of myself. 😢

Liver is good. You're just a spoiled city boy.
That's right.... you can cook those onions separately, then throw them into the liver to finish up...
Can you take beef liver with warfarin?
I just bought beef liver. Cut a few thin slices, fried in bacon fat for 10 minutes, put some salt and ate it. Tastes great, even without soaking in milk or frying with onlions. The rest of it I will boil, then ground with some bacon, to make a 100% carnivore paste, with zero vegetable oils, sugar ir additives, unlike grocery store version.
I used to have a doctor that told me to eat liver once a week
Liver is high in vitamin A, folic acid, iron, and zinc. Liver is the most nutrient dense organ meat, and it is a powerful source of vitamin A. Vitamin A is beneficial for eye health and for reducing diseases that cause inflammation, including everything from Alzheimer's disease to arthritis.👍
Since watching one of your earlier videos on liver, I've become a true convert! I now have it 2-3 times per week and I just have to look in the mirror to know it's doing me good. Many thanks, Dr. B!
You have mentioned that you eat liver a few times per week. How many ounces of liver in one sitting do you eat ? Thanks
No food has blown my mind more than liver. I have felt the euphoria from eating a good steak, but I am not exaggerating when I say that liver has probably saved my life. My depression, complete with suicidal thoughts, lifted almost immediately. I encourage everyone on the carnivore diet to give it a go.
Same here. I eat 1 kg of beef liver every week and every time my body shouts Thank you!
Here on Guam, I raised 2 feral piglets to 120lbs. "FATADA" is a blood & organ stew that blew my mind!

I eat 50 grams three times a week. After adding it to my already strict diet I have noticed a bump in energy and endorphins. It’s doing something. I do not eat anything different (EVER), I’m very disciplined. So when I added the liver I noticed the benefits.
What's your diet like?
I just ate liver for the first time in a couple of years and I swear I could feel the nutrients enter my body before I was finished chewing my first bite. Like a kind of energy entered my brain and body at the same time. I felt the same way when I ate freshly killed elk heart a few years back. There is no pill you can take to replicate that.
Same thing happened to me! Minus the Elk part.
How did elk heart taste? You’ve piqued my curiosity

Thank you! As an Iranian, who eating liver is in our blood 🙂 I really enjoyed this video! We eat mostly lamb or chicken liver and one of our national foods is lamb liver simply cut, skewered and grilled on charcoal, served just by salt. Me personally love the liver the way I love steaks: medium rare 😋
For chicken liver I recommend you to stir fried it with chopped onions, garlic, any spices you'd like, salt and fresh lemon juice. Bon appétit !
Thank you, Dr. Berry! Still loving you in Shreveport!
Thank you, dear Doctor Berry! Liver is cheaper than stakes and is amazing.

I cop chicken hearts, gizzards and feet by the tons/very cheap and yummy. plus they're just fun to grill up lol.
Chicken liver is inexpensive. Perhaps you can purchase. Many places have for about 2 bucks or so.

2:15 does that mean that Organic liver is not necessary.
As such, I have zero confidence of things that “I’ve known all my life.”
Thanks!!

That liver is WAYYYYYY overcooked, IMHO!!

Homemade pate, after making the pate of liver, kidney, chicken heart, and pigs feet and any beef bones slow cooked then blended up. Then slow cook any beef, rump, brisket and pull it apart mix into the pate to give it chunky meat texture. The pork feet provide the jelly high collagen.

Thank you very much doctor. Does liver preserve all its nutrients after cooking it? I like to make pate and I sometimes buy it at the supermarket.
Pan fried lambs liver, cooked in butter...2 mins a side...served up with scrambled eggs. Bit of salt and pepper
Perfect breakfast ( at 4pm of course)
