      Hey Derek! I just tried to apply the code and it says it’s not available right now. Of course I’d love the discount but I also want to make sure you get credit for it too. Let me know if you have any details. Thanks

    The edit here is absurdly good, that 3-drink shot is just beautiful

    I had a carajillo at a cocktail bar in Mexico City called Tokyo Music Bar a couple of weeks ago. It was made with espresso and a house made coffee liqueur and it was wonderful.

    If you are in NYC you should definitely check out Dead Rabbit. Best coffee cocktails I have ever had. They also use nice craft coffee

    My family is mostly Spanish, by way of Territorial New Mexico, and I’ve never heard of this drink. It sounds like something I’d enjoy. I love espresso martinis and coffee liqueur based drinks like White Russians. The purist in me wants to try the first one made here.

    Derek, I don’t drink coffee and you keep making me want to drink coffee ☕️ I’d say that means you’re doing a great job. Cheers!

    I had to look up Licor 43. And because obsession is getting the better of me, I also had to look back to see when you upgraded from the ivory DrinkMaster to the slick green one you're sporting recently. Looks like a Model 30. Very nice. The 70 watt motor and single plastic blade mixer on the new ones would seem under powered compared to the 185 watt motor and the all metal double blade mixer on the Model 30. Can you compare the two? Is it worth hunting down an old one?

    Great episode! Definitely going to try this during Christmas. Honestly I think licor
    43 is one of the tastiest liqueurs I know. I usually replace vanilla syrup with it in some cocktails since it tastes the same and saves me a bunch of time!

    My Carajillo:
    1 oz Licor 43
    1 oz Ancho Reyes
    1 oz Espresso
    4 drops Molé bitters
    4 drops Saline
    Shake and serve in a Nick n Nora. Dust with cinnamon powder and express an orange peel over the top
    Y’all are welcome

      @@eyespy3001 sounds dope but that much ancho reyes? 😬 and which one do you go with?

    • @eyespy3001
      @eyespy3001 8 днів тому

      @ Personally, I don’t find Ancho Reyes to be that spicy, if that’s what you’re concerned about. Plus, the bitterness of the coffee plays well with the spice, as does the Licor 43.
      As for the type, I usually use the red, but the verde would work just as well. I don’t find too much of a difference between the two.

      @@eyespy3001 I have the green one. I think 1oz would be too spicy for me bc I have that hiccup reflex. I’d try it though

    • @eyespy3001
      @eyespy3001 7 днів тому

      @ Give it a try. If it’s too spicy, cut it back to 3/4-1/2 oz. If you’re cutting it back to 1/2 oz, add a quarter ounce of agave or simple syrup

    Hello @makeanddrink, what would you use to replace a freshly brewed espresso if you had to?

    • @makeanddrink
      @makeanddrink  7 днів тому +1

      I would buy espresso directly from a coffee shop or find a quality instant espresso like Blue Bottle. Just isn’t the same with regular coffee IMO

    "Training" so that's how you're referring to it these day. I'll see if my wife lets me get away with it next time I'm mixing up a drink on a Tuesday.

    And yeah coraje=courage, corajillo would be the diminutive form in Spanish. carajillo would be more of like a swear word. Guess it somehow got distorted. I had also heard about Cuba supposedly being the origin of the carajillo btw not sure if you had encountered/debunked that. When I was in Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain I ordered a carajillo hoping for something like the ones I’d had in Mexico but it was not cold it was served hot and was just coffee and brandy. It sucked.

    Whoa Derek…. Those are not Tiki! LoL…. I’ve been making the flaming Portland Oregon version. Since its kinda a pain, kinda hard on glassware, and not fun in the summer, I think I’ll give one of these simplified versions a go….

    Why didn’t you try any recipes with coffee liqueur?
    I like to make my carajillo as such:
    3/4oz cacao infused rum
    3/4oz coffee liqueur
    3/4oz espresso
    3/4oz liquor 43

    Essentially, you have just come back to the espresso martini format: spirit, liquor, sugar, and coffee.
