    It's always nice to hear proper rally English! 😁 Great setup and I really like how persistent you you have been with the diesel. Many would have been given up already and change to typical petrol and 2jz. I have been following your team almost all the years and seen struggle in the pass. Keep going! Btw. These technical insight are interesting so make more them!

    I always wonder why dont every seriously highly tuned engine use compound charging. On gasoline engines too, I know this guy who has 2JZ with HX40 Super and HX60 on compound, running ~3bar of boost, absolutely insane setup and its a street car too. 😅

    Have You thought about using electrically driven wastegate? With air preassure there are some delays between it opening and doing it's work. With electric - more precise and immediate control. Karel Piiroja is implementing that to his 350z and dyno should be soon, will see the results before and after.
    Great video guys!

      We really thinked that, but leave using them because of needed water cooling for them. Am not sure if peaks are always bad thing.

    Nice setup guys ! Have you considered cooling the intake air between the stages and how do you intent to control the heat from the exhaust since there is also intake piping very close by ?

  • @lamazver
    @lamazver Місяць тому

    Sir i love your build, but you need to explain this differently.
    Turbos dont care about pressure, they care about pressure difference and density.
    Big turbo(LP turbo) is density multiplyer for small turbo. And if you want hp turbo flow as much as LP turbo you need to raise density. Both of those turbos have more than 3:1 pressure ratio in their compressor maps and you can run 9bar of boost pressure easily just as tractor pulling guys.
    As soonas your small turbo starts doing some boost, it will activate big turbo even sooner than big turbo would run alone.
    If holset compressor maps would be easily obtained you could size them turbos perfectly, that why I love borg warner and garrett for such builds.

  • @pajaman8614

    Maybe another intercooler between turbos?

  • @nesmio7378
    @nesmio7378 5 місяців тому +1

    Very nice and cool video. Very interesting. Please make more.
    To Lasse - Why are you not running a bypass for the compressor of the big turbo to bypass the compressor of the small turbo so the air can go directly into the intercooler once the big turbo is ready and spooled? This is what the manufacturers do. This way the air isn't choked so much when the big turbo has to push and force the air through the small turbo and instead can bypass directly to intercooler, or is this because you need the compound pressure and it's difficult to make the high pressure you need from the big alone or do you need the response always from the small turbo so you have to keep it fully online and working always?
    Another question - have you thought about running an intercooler between the two turbos and stages? What do you think about this?

    • @turbodieselbuilds
      @turbodieselbuilds  5 місяців тому +4

      Thanks!
      About first question, yes, we need have compound effect all the time, is not worth to make 4bar with one. And another things is to keep small turbo speed as you said.
      About intercooler between turbos, compressor difference is calculated to be not too big, so we can run without. If need go to bigger low pressure turbo, then intercooler is needed between those two. Thing is to be lighter and more simple.
      -Lasse

    • @nesmio7378
      @nesmio7378 5 місяців тому

      @turbodieselbuilds Thanks Lasse, good answer.
      One follow up question - why do you only need intercooler between the stages if there is a bigger difference in turbo size between LP and HP? Is it because of HP working harder to compensate for lazier LP and you need maximum efficiency or because the HP turbo is choking the LP turbo too much so again you need all efficiency you can get?
      What is roughly the difference % you need for intercooling between stages to be worth it and what do you use to measure it and decide? Pressure ratio, flow, wheel size, back pressure to boost ratio?

    • @lassekalliokoski8775
      @lassekalliokoski8775 3 місяці тому +1

      Good questions. We are in calculated area, if turbo size different is bigger than this, then cooler is needed between those. But now small can handle all, nad heat is enough controlled. System must be simple and light.
      One simple way to fast calculate is compressor area difference 1,72. If difference is bigger, then intercooler is needed between.

    1.Onko teillä ollut harkinassa vnt hp ahmiten käyttö, sanotaan vaikka volvosta saisi hp puolen tuoton alkamaan vielä alempaa, eikö vaan siivikko yms liikkuvat kestä lämpökuormaa
    2.Onko tuolla hukkisten pakopaine ohjauksella hyötyjä vs ahtopaine ohjaus jossa pikkuahtimen ohitusta ohjaa kokonaisahtopaine ja ison ahtimen ohitusta interstage ahtopaine

      Vnt on käyny vaihtoehtona paperilla, mutta se hyötysuhe alue ei kuitenkaan oo ihan halutulla alueella kun joudutaan pakottamaan liikaa kiinni. Lämpökuorma myös ongelma.
      On sillä joo. Ahtopaine ohjauksella ongelmaksi tulee pikkuahtimen hyötysuheen putoaminen ylärekisterissä, aiheuttaa valtavan lämpökuorman jos tehdään "väkisin ahtopainetta". Pakopuolen ohjauksella saadaan tämä ilmiö pidettyä kurissa.

    How does pressure behaves on intake side between turbos?
    Isn't smaller produce backwards flow to bigger one during small revs and bigger to smaller during high revs?

    • @RoisinT2
      @RoisinT2 5 місяців тому +1

      🤔 Not quite sure what you mean?
      -big turbo sucks air outside
      -small turbo sucks air trough it at low rpm
      -big turbo pushes air trough small one to the engine on high rpm
      Imo there aint any backward flow. Air is going always trough both to the engine same way, no matter which turbo "works" more.
      Small turbo is there kinda just to get things going earlier and faster. Though it provides the boost also - meaning if another turbo gets already boosted air in and pressure it more, more boost.

    How that little turbo like big turbo generated intake air that is already 3bar? Does it speed up spinning of little turbo? Is there in little turbo some bypass mechanism or is it just normal turbo?

    • @turbodieselbuilds
      @turbodieselbuilds  5 місяців тому +2

      Quite well. No, it does not speed it up, small turbo revs come down if we dont control exhaust flow also to small turbine. Thats why we need improve that from last season.

    If other turbo makes 2,5 bar and other 0,5 bar, so it is really 3 bar together? I am not sure but I think it is not that straight forward. For me it would sounds like that 0,5 bar can not do anything because there is bigger pressure ahead. It would work backwards?

    • @lovelizards2474

      The small turbo compresses the big turbos air 3 to 1. So just like two different turbos could have the same psi (HX35 vs stock hybrid), the HX35 will flow more are thus creating more power.
