I used to compete with Ellington Darden back in the 1970's. Sadly Interesting that Rod Koontz, who is on the cover and Casey Viator have both passed away. I was lucky enough to visit El over at Lake Helen, Florida several years back at the Nautilus factory before it closed.

Nautilus helped evolve and drive the standards among gym equipment manufacturers so we have much better choice and selection compared to back in the 80's

Nick you should do video to show how effective working out with your own body weight is if there is no gym..10 sets of 10 with dips by grabbing two chairs..up side down shoulder press..hand stand press on a door..one leg squats.. Chin ups on a door thats open. I cannot criticize just mabey an idea for future video. As always great videos n the books are really interesting amd inspiring too. Keep lifting young man your ripped to the bone.

Ellington Darden, Ph.D is a solid resource on exercise physiology and bodybuilding. I also have some of his books, and one called "New High Intensity Bodybuilding" from 1990 has some really interesting routines based on the Arthur Jones, Mentzer, and Yates type of training. One important thing that always stuck in my head was to look for ways to make the exercise(s) more difficult and intense and not easier or just going through the motions/using poor form.

never said that, i'm just saying that if bb can afford to do 100 set an still recover its becoz of the steroids they are taking... you could do 100set aswell as a beginer and still see progress coz u wouldnt stress ur body enough to bring him into a place where he just cannot repair the dmg you did by the training coz your training would still be 'light'. but as u progress, your loads go up, but nervous system remains the same, so, if u dont take steroids, u'd lack of progress, or even regress... bbuilders can afford to go further coz they got that extra help and STILL its not the best way either, few sets to real muscle faileur is far enough to stimulate growth ( which is their goal ) you gotta stimulate growth, not destroy the muscle..

Absolutely brilliant. love the old stuff i was 15 in 1982 so all these was the era i grew up in.
in fact in the early 80s Roger dawtry from the who imported the range of nautilus equipment to Brighton uk and he had gym ther i trained ther but was told only to do 1 set per excercise but was still into the many sets approach and didnt realy understand the concept at the time.

Hey brother if you ever do a podcast topic on Nautilus, Arthur Jones, HIT, or even just different training methodologies I'd love to guest on it and talk about the Nautilus principles compared to others. I'm no famous bodybuilder but I have access to and studied most of Arthur's and Dr
Dardens writings and I haven't found many on UA-cam who have a clear understanding of it. Just a thought and figured I'd throw my name in the hat, keep up the good material.

I think Nautilus may have introduced cams, they differed from a pulley alone in that they altered the relative resistance throughout the motion. Pulleys have a consistent resistance where as cams were supposed to manipulate resistance for specific emphasis to increase development. The original Nautilus equipment used chains, like a bike chain and made the motion rather binding/not smooth, later iterations used belts and now the brand may have gone out of business. Now you have plate loaded ie Hammer Strength or Cybex etc, which I prefer contingent upon functional design of course, some equipment is so poorly designed it's completely useless.

Hey Nick do you like Bruce Lee? Might be interesting for you to do a video on him. He had a crazy physique and he used to build some of his own equipment. Plus his book The Tao of Jeet Kune Do might work in your library sequence of videos.

Hey Nick, what do you think of natural builders. Like Jason Gallant? (Natural Gallant Bodybuilding - UA-cam) I think it's good to see what's actually achievable compared to using roids.

I love your book videos. Two suggestions for books: "Arnold Schwarzenegger, a portrait" by George Butler. And "Mr. Olympia" by Joe Weider.
