    I have the mini 4 along with many other DJI drones. I also was an Air Traffic Controller at the busiest facility in the world. Believe me, this is being blown WAY out of proportion. Fly SAFE, no the RULES, and don’t be stupid. You’ll have no problems. If you think the FAA is monitoring all the drones being flown every day in the USA, you’re nuts. Again, don’t do anything stupid. You will be fine.
    Edit…IF you are approached by an FAA official who wants to proceed with a Ramp. Check, most likely it would happen only if you are flying in CONTROLLED airspace. Controlled meaning, flying within close proximity of a large airport. Now, I don’t know everything about all this mess, and I’m not saying you will never be approached. I’m only saying again…be safe. I’m curious, has ANYBODY out there ever been investigated by the FAA regarding your drone. If so, I, along with everyone else here would love to hear about your experience.

      The reason why police surveillance contractors don't contract with the police in high crime areas is 100% due to RID. Criminal elements will know the location of the contractor and attack, plain and simple. But doing things to REDUCE crime is "stupid" right?

    Here’s a fun fact that you might want to reconsider. The mini 4 pro will NOT broadcast Remote ID if you are using the standard battery that keeps the drone under 250 grams. However the mini 4 pro will broadcast Remote ID only if you are using the intelligent flight battery plus that will make the mini 4 pro over 250 grams. So with that being said if you are a part 107 pilot and need the mini 4 pro to broadcast Remote ID You will have to purchase the extended flight battery plus. Another thing about Remote ID is that RID is broadcasting over blue tooth so depending on what device you are using the blue tooth signal is very limited. How far can you pick up with your headphones when walking away from your phone or tablet? That’s how close you have to be to the drone or drone pilot to use the drone scanner app and detect the location. After testing that out I could not detect my drone when approximately 500 feet away from my drone and controller. So unless the Karen is standing in the same area as you are such as a park then they won’t be able to detect the drone. In which case if they are they probably don’t need the app to find you in the first place 😂 And if Karen wants to come up and be A Karen then they will most likely leave with a black eye and a headache 😂

      There is no way my neighbors are scanning for drones........and flying drones. I'VE NEVER SEEN A DRONE ABOVE MY HOUSE FOR 5+ years.....UNTIL WITHIN 2 WEEKS OF OWNING AND FLYING ONE. My neighbors are all 65+ yrs old.....

    How thoughtful on the part of DJI. If you thought you could get away with flying your sub-250 quad with Plus sized batteries, nope. DJI sends out your ID to let the FAA know what you're doing.
    Coming next year: your DJI drone will automatically call the police to let them know about your naughtiness and where you live, so that you can experience getting swatted at 4:00 am by a swarm of jumping jackboots.

    I read some reviews on the drone scanner app. I was mortified for the drone pilots. It's a massive safety risk. I read one review where the person said ''I couldn't find the pilot but if I did he better have good health insurance''. I know 95% of drone pilots out there are truly recording because they love aerial photography not to spy and create a scene, although that happens as well. Remote ID is an invasion of privacy and is totally unacceptable. I too will only use the normal lightweight batteries to avoid this nonsense. Like you said the last thing I need is a worked-up person trying to fight me, have the cops called on me, or better yet get robbed even killed over a drone. This is supposed to be a fun hobby for me and I've been flying now for 10 years basically and now I find myself being paranoid when flying when I'm doing nothing wrong.

      Any Part 107 Flyer should welcome RID. RID identifies you as a serious flyer on some sort of commercial mission. The general public might think twice about interfering if you look the part. Law enforcement can calm the fears of any Karen that calls. So get the UAS Cert or stay recreational and use sub 250 gram aircraft. Recreational don't mean be stupid, so know the rules anyway.

  • @Hat_Uncle
    @Hat_Uncle 9 місяців тому +6

    The M4P has RID built in, the latest firmware auto broadcasts the info for the heavier battery. You just need to get a FAA TRUST cert($5) and tell the FAA you have it, in you drone list on their site.... nothing else is really needed.
    The percent of "bothersome" people to worry about is super small. And if you ever Do run into one, tell them the FAA considers your drone an aircraft now, "there are a lot of things that can land them in federal trouble" if they mess with you, and leave it at that. I place all my FAA stickers on my drone hard case and wear a fluorescent "FAA drone pilot" vest with my ID/Cert in a clear pocket in case any law enforcement ever approaches me. (You are allowed to wear clothing that says "anything" so long as it is NOT an official uniform, 1st Amendment baby!)
    PLUS, it has Goggles 2 and Motion 2 controller support now, makes it FPV FUN, if you decide to drop the extra $.
    I LOVE the extra flight time the plus batteries give me. 6 plus batteries means flying until my RC 2 battery is dead. heh

    FWW (and as you forecast), the CAA in the UK is planning to change the game within the next year by requiring all camera drones, whatever their weight, to broadcast RID - and that includes my sub-249g M4P. The FAA may go a different route so DYOR. For legacy drones which don't have the capability to be upgraded for RID, the CAA wants to make those add-on modules compulsory. The price of not complying is that your drone won't take off - although hackers will doubtless find a way around that.

    Please forgive me for my ignorance. But why not just buy a set of 34 Min batteries instead of going through the motions of returning and repurchasing all over again. Wouldn't the drone itself would detect what kind of a battery we are using no matter which bundle you purchase? If the company DJI need to be compliant for remote ID I would think that they would put it on all drones moving forward then make them so the drone would know when to use it or make changes through firmware update. Buying the bundle just to avoid remote ID seem way to easy (or easy loophole). Plus what if we decide to get the 45Mins afterwards? Would the drone decide to turn ON remote ID when using the 45Mins? Maybe I'm missing something.🤷‍♂

    I myself am not worried about RID. The majority of the people don't even have a clue about what it is. Granted, eventually more will find out about it but unless you know drone rules, etc. you probably wouldn't know about the app. Yes, there may be a few but I think that'll be so few that most people won't be bothered by someone trying to rob you or take out your drone. Also, if the Air 2 you're referring to is a Mavic Air 2, the RID firmware update is already released and FAA approved. I know because I have one also, along with the Mini 4 Pro with 1 standard battery and 3 Plus batteries. Any drone you fly, even if its under 250g needs to obey all FAA rules except for having to be registered and have RID. When I got my Mini 4 Pro, I bought it with standard batteries and registered it anyway since I had registered my Mavic Air 2 and it doesn't cost any more to register more drones as long as you're only a recreational pilot. If you are certified and fly under Part 107, which you must be if you promote a business or generate revenue with your drone, you must register every drone separately with a different registration number whether it's under 250g or not. Personally, I love the Mini 4 Pro and am not concerned much about RID, especially since I'm studying for my Part 107 Cert. There are ways to deal with people who try to find you with the scanner app or just see you flying nearby and have some kind of beef about drones. The latter of which is still going to be the most common occurrence. Check out Russ' videos at www.youtube.com/@51Drones. He has some great advice about dealing with confrontations with drone haters. You might have to do a search to find one but it's worth it. He's a great source of info. Don't let RID dampen your passion for the hobby. It's not the end of the drone world as some seem to portray it. It's been blown out of proportion by many. Yes, it's a bit of a hassle if your drone can't be made RID compatible without a module but it's there and must be complied with to legally fly. Don't give up just for Remote ID.

    It's better to fly RID so that you can be investigated without being bothered. If you have ever seen the RID map it literally shows all the drones in the city airspace, my area is covered by three airports. I fly sub-250 RID with no registration & after someone flew over a county prison they interviewed all flyers in the county with undercover home-security door-to-door salesmen. You put too much thought into it. RID doesn't give your name, address, etc., just the pilot and drone location. If someone comes to give you shit, tell them to wanker off. Really don't understand the problem people have with telling someone to get bent.
    That said, if it bothers you that much, then you have a work around with the sub 250g battery. However, when the FAA runs out of things to do, they'll likely require RID on ALL drones, regardless of weight, and your "Solution" will fail.

  • @hankwojo
    @hankwojo 8 місяців тому +1

    Although you probably have returned the drone by now, I think you were being over cautious and a little paranoid about the RID thing. It will probably come to pass where all drones will have to meet the RID requirement. All batteries are intelligent flight batteries and a firmware update to the lower capacity batteries could enable RID in those as well. Fly by the rules, don't do anything stupid, respect other people and you should be good to go.

    • @RebelByNature
      @RebelByNature 8 місяців тому +1

      This information is incorrect.
      The Mini 4, from the beginning was previously, automatically broadcasting RID whenever is was being operated in the US airspace. Unconditionally, regardless of battery in the drone. The Dec update did not enable broadcast when using the Plus battery. It was already doing this. No, the update did the opposite, it stopped the automatic RID broadcast when using the standard battery. Thus the change of behavior for this firmware update was to no longer broadcast when using the std battery. This is because there is no requirement to broadcast RID in an unregistered, recreationally flown, sub 250g drone. The fact that the Mini 4 is certified Standard Remote ID does not mean it must broadcast RID when it's not legally required. Thus, there is no reason to expect without a change in federal law that RID will start being broadcast, again, for us recreational folks with sub250g, unregistered drones.
      My prediction is that since the vast majority of drone pilots are recreational, not 107, and the vast majority of them will be deliberately choosing sub 250 drones and not registering them, most drones will not be broadcasting RID unless or until there is a change in federal law requiring it.

      😀 I don't so much mind the remote id concept, it's the possibility of the general public being able to access my location and getting up in my business.

      Same reason I stopped using the hiking app, I forget the name of it. Found the damn thing was broadcasting my walks online, including those starting from my house. I don't want my home address or current location broadcast across the net.

      @@bigglyguy8429 Oh man that would suck. The last thing you want is someone thinking, "Oh look! he's about 45 minutes from home! Let's see what sort of TV he has."

    You don't want people to know where you are when flying your drone? Why? 🤔

      @@BrianRouse I am exactly the same way, besides whose business is it anyways. I don't want my car broadcasting info either. Please, no license plate examples, they don't broadcast.
