My favorite comedian of all time. I "remember where I was exactly" during crazy bad moments in life. Like 9/11. Remember exactly what I was doing when it happened. When I got the news Carlin died was one of those times. Was at a friends Bday party. Started out being an awesome night and then later I was a mess for the rest of the party after hearing the news. I was lucky enough to see him live twice. RIP George. You were the best.

Good news. Boss called in today and said i dont have to go in to work, thank god cuz i was drinking all weekend. But i couldn't miss it cuz i got bills to pay. Bossman told me dont worry about it, ill get paid for the day. In fact, he said, ill be signed in then just left like that - ill be making cash 24/7 whether i worked or not. But my bossman is a good person, and i dont want to let him down or screw any co-workers over giving them more work. Bossman says its ok, they have someone new to cover my end.
So i dont have to work, but i get paid - possibly more than a days worth, the company doesnt go under and keeps in business, and i get all the benefits? This is awesome.
And thats how people can enslave others.

Carlin was the most influential comedian up to this day, specially because he was as much as comedian as a philosopher. His comedy was always edgy and started becoming more confrontational as the years went by. Most comedians regarded him as their biggest source of influence and inspiration. There are also quite a few other really thought provocative comedians you should check out. Bill Hicks (who unfortunately had a really short career since he died to a cancer in 1994 at age 32) is probably the next you should watch. He's also still viewed by many as one of the best ever. Two others you'll most likely enjoy are Dylan Moran, an Irish comedian also really insightful, but in a totally different style and Tim Minchin an Australian comedian who merges music and comedy in such an unique way like no one else can. All of these will give you a lots of laughs at the same time as they give you things to ponder and think about.

George was fearless! You can hear people occasionally yelling out in protest at certain points not realizing it's a rhetorical interface. George always ignores them and bulldozes ahead. He already anticipated them and his next utterance is designed to neutralize whatever that screaming idiot was saying. He'd been doing this for so long he already had his role and the audiences participation mapped out. Genius!

An interesting aside regarding the Japanese Internment Camps... although clearly discriminatory based on national origin, it was considered lawful because the overriding "concern" was not that they were Japanese, but because detaining them was done for _the safety of the country_ . So as long as the government can argue that it is for the "safety of the country," they can do whatever the hell they want to you...
