Hey! I hope some of the points mentioned in this video can be of use to you. Time flies so try and live in the moment as well as plan for a strong future. On a side note, I'm hoping to release an in-depth 'Asset Management 101' course in the next few days on Skillshare so here’s a FREE trial of Skillshare Premium Membership for those of you that see this comment: skl.sh/afzalhussein01211. I've already got a few banking/career related courses on Skillshare that you can check out too.
I'm 21 years old Applied Mathematics junior, transferring to UCLA or UCB. I'm equally interested in Investment Banking and Tech, which means mainly GOOD SALARY. But struggling to pick my minor as Finance or CS. Could you give any advice or recommendation?
Thank you for this Afzal, i recently applied to study Law at UCL and Oxford- Got rejected from both, but got amazing offers from exeter and Warwick. Through this video you have reminded me to seize opportunities and make the most of what life gives you. Thank you
Love your videos bro. I graduated from UCL in 2019 and didn’t do any internships or serious thinking about my career until it was all over, kicking myself now as I had no idea how precious that time was when I was there. I would add the point that you shouldn’t just jump into a job for the sake of having one, as that’s what I did straight after graduation to avoid moving home. Spent a year and a half working as a BDM in a lead generation company and hating it, so handed in my notice last week and got my final assessment to join the Army as an officer coming up in March. 🤙
Happy birthday! My husband won't stop watching your videos so I thought I might just pop up in the comments to surprise him lol. Hope you have a great birthday and another beautiful year ahead. Loads of love and admiration for your work from the two of us ❤️
Just Turned 23 and am working in wealth management at Barclays, just finished up my degree apprenticeship, I love your videos and the motivation point was great, with a high workload sometimes I have low motivation but I do feel my positive habits always keep me on track.
I am turning 20 by the end of this year and I am in my 2nd year of BM. I really love this video because it is very accurate that Banking is an overrated sector at the moment (it is by no means bad and take your chances there if you can) but I really find that it is very important if not more important to look into different options.
Just graduated in 2020 and began working in front office banking in September in a rotational program. Loving it, albeit virtually and uniquely challenging, but missing in person interactions greatly. Been binge watching your content for 2 weeks or so, loving it! If I had advice to myself at beginning of Uni, it would be to put more money in the stock market, but not more than I could afford to lose. Great learning opportunity
Assalomu aleykum I always regretted that I didn’t have brother who would have given me track and advice. But I have stopped to grumble since I “met” you. Now I have brother in the UK. Thank you a lot!
really like you video. I am 36 this year joined a top hedge fund two years ago. I really envy young ppl like you can have chance to work for top companies in the industry. I remember when was like your age I was struggling with 9-5 job in a mom-pop company just barely make a living. For me to get access to big firms is something can only happen in mid 30s but for ppl like you, you can do it right after getting out of school. I have to admit there are big differences between ppl. When I joined this big firm I am currently in right now, almost ppl at my level are all 30 below like around 25 but with more or better skill and experience than I do. I learnt a lot for the past two years working here but always with sadness and a little bit of discouragement. I sometimes think if I were given this job when I was 25 years old when I was just single and have no other side hassles, I would have focused more on the job and grew faster.
Great video Afzal. I like the idea of zooming out like this! Though there's a bias with things tending to make more sense when viewed in hindsight, there's always a tad few nuggets you would've hoped to have heard earlier on and I think you nailed them. Keep it up!
I’m a second year studying Real Estate, hoping to go into property development and investment so not necessarily banking/finance. Alongside uni work I’m trying to build an automotive Instagram page as a side hustle as cars are my other big passion. I’m also educating myself about the stock market and making a few investments. Cheers for the video it was very helpful!

I have a clear idea of what I want to achieve, but who knows what might happen down the road. So it'll be fascinating to stumble across this comment in the future and see how my goals changed and what I have achieved.
Just discovered your channel! As a 19 yr old this came at the perfect time as I’ve been a little anxious about the future. Thanks for the advice, excited to discover your other vids !
Your videos are soo applicable to life. Please do videos on money management and also housing. Two key areas which many 20-30 years stumble through life with.
Currently i am hospitality professional, and this fall I am starting my journey into world of finance by getting admitted into a top masters program. I am really impressed by overall quality videos that you post. Keep the good work going and happy birthday a month late🎉
Right now I am a Grade 12 student and planning to apply commerce schools in Canada~ Your advises are super inspirational and helpful, thank you for sharing these with us~
Happy belated birthday! Your videos are methodological and very informative (I love it). You are definitely the older finance mentor I never had lol. I graduated uni in 2018 and started my professional career at a big PE firm. The transition was brutal but I gained a lot of knowledge. I recently moved on to a finance govt consultant position and the work life balance is much better. I’m still trying to figure out what’s next for me and what are my long term career goals. I might put some energy into some of my passion projects since I have more time on my hands.
Actually 19 im going on my 3rd uni year in foreign language I will apply your advice and come here each year to see the evolution thx a lot for your video
Top-tier video Afzal! Currently a student, fortunate to have couple internships under my belt with one more to complete this summer before Uni finishes
Happy birthday, mate! Last year finance undergrad here, on the grind for that juicy internship, rejection after rejection, but keeping the head up nonetheless and staying focused. :P
I love your contents always. I had experience in operation management, marketing and financial services. However, I'm graduating in spring 2021. I haven't got anything yet. Now I'm so scared to graduate and not having roles in my fields 😢
Hi Afzal, I'm a penultimate student in HK and I just want to say thank you so much for sharing these videos with us. Your videos undoubtedly help me secure my internship and also enable me to explain the finance industry to my juniors. I'm sincerely obliged for your sharing and I hope for your success in your work and this channel.
Great video and happy birthday to you too! 🥳 The point about investing in your health whilst you’re young is definitely important. Learn to cook 👨🍳🍽👩🍳 and take the time to do physical activities you enjoy🏋️⛹️♂️ The corporate world will hit you fast and your health will definitely take a toll, so ensure you are placing yourself in the best position to avoid these issues further down the line.
Thanks for taking the time sharing us these Golden tips, I'm 19 yo, I'm gonna say that your tips are usefull and I didn't notice about some of them before, thanks to you for sharing. HBD
Wooh I was just scrolling through the finance and banking videos and you guy my guy are such a vibe and good advice I'm watching this at 19 and hope your advice will work .thanks a lot
Happy 29th Afzal. Been subbed for a couple of months now. Thank you for always keeping it real in your videos. The fact that you can look back and see the flaws in your younger self shows the growth you've made. Hopefully you can look back in ten years and have another set of lessons for your 29 year old self.
I followed You since 2 years ago!! Probably one of the best and most genuine video that You published! I have taken a quite similar approach during my academic path. It definitely works

I love this. Thank you for sharing your advice - super helpful :) I graduated 2.5 years ago and recently joined a grad scheme in FMCG, but share some interests in the world of banking and your other life advice videos. Keep up the great content!
You've talked about have a side hustle to talk about in interviews. I have a Healthtech business on the side, would mentioning that in interviews be seen as a possible distraction by my potential employers
Absolutely not!!! Actually it’s these side projects that ultimately get you the job because of the skills and driven vision you show. My banking/tech interviews only focused on my side projects which got me the gig
Apologies, I receive tons of DMs and hence find it hard to carve out time to reply to each and every one. As such, I respond by making videos given it'd just take too long to respond individually. Hope you understand. What was the question?
