    tip 1. make sure you communicate properly, professionally and friendly. talk about what you're doing, timelines for completion, make sure you're clear on expectation for any task you're doing. Be precise in your communication, i cant emphasise this enough! Don't say "i'll get that to you asap" that don't mean shit to me...say "i'll get you that to you on friday afternoon".
    tip 2. Ask questions, show interest, keep a note book and write shit down. ask people questions about that shit during the internship
    tip 3. be proactive and ask your boss for a coffee
    tip 4: people just wanna work with people they like. Dont be a prick, and you have a chance.
    source. VP at IB
    ps i've subbed this. he knows what he's talking about. Sponge tip is the best here

    I have been told by my family that I must work overtime unpaid- past my internship hours- to impress my manager. But I feel like this is a pushover move and it is not setting boundaries- otherwise work will always expect me to do this. If one of my goals is a healthy work life balance how would working past work hours help?

    Hi Afzal, would it be okay if you did a specific video on Asset Management? This is a division within finance I am interested in but would appreciate your view as you have worked within Asset Management at Goldman Sachs. Your videos help break through the barrier of understand the real world rather than that of studying finance in lecture theatres.

    Hi Afzal, your videos have been very insightful! I have a question - I graduated with an BsC in Math/Stats in 2012. I took a 7 year break from analysis but have recently reignited my passion and want to move into the field of finance. What is the likelihood I could get an internship given that I have taken such a long break. Do you have any recommendations of what steps I could take to show that I am committed to learning the field - such as masters/CPA/actuarial exams/personal projects to post online?

    Hi buddy, hope you're well
    I'm in year 12, going into year 13 and need to decide what I'm gonna do, always wanted to get into investment banking and am confused about the traditional university route or degree apprenticeship.
    If you could make a vid explaining banking degree apprenticeships, especially the ones that UBS, Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan offers and whether it's front desk or back desk...etc
    Thanks mate

      I did an apprenticeship in a London Investment Bank in the back office (most apprenticeships are within back office) and then after the 18 months moved to a front office role. So apprenticeships definitely offer good opportunities

    Hi Afzal,
    So I’m Interning at BofA in NYC and I’m kinda in a dilemma. So I’m basically working in a middle office role where I’m directly working with Traders at an S&T desk. The issue I have is that I want to be in S&T and I’ve been networking a ton with the people in the S&T division. I just want to know what is the best way to go about switching from the role I’m currently in, into the S&T role I desire. Because although I want the full time offer from this team, I also want an offer from the S&T division. So how should I go about the switch? This is all within BofA btw.

    Hey Afzal, do you know if the tips you are given can apply to other finance / accounting internships? I have an internship at PwC and I was wondering if in other financial services (other than investment / banking) would put as much emphasis on these tips. I ask this because your tips seem very good, but also put a lot of pressure on interns (especially networking with higher ranked individuals in the firm) and the stress on performance.

    • @AfzalHussein
      @AfzalHussein  5 років тому

      Good question. It's a tricky one and really depends on your relationship with your manager. You'll know a mentor when you have a unique mentor/mentee relationship with them that is noticeably different from other working/colleague/managerial relationship. Though I feel I've poorly worded this I hope it helps!

    What type of projects are you required to do in these internships?

    • @AfzalHussein
      @AfzalHussein  5 років тому +2

      They vary and are always team specific. So it really depends on your division and team. They will consist of leveraging the firms resources and your internal networks in order to improve a process, or come up with an interesting idea, etc. They'll 9 times out of 10 require you to present your project towards the end of the internship.
