    What makes the addition of that steal even better is that they are telling us what it is. I appreciate when companies are transparent and was getting tired of companies being secretive about the materials used. I get that occasionally they need to keep proprietary alloys a secret from competition, but most of the time its not necessary. It seemed like it was just to hide that they were cutting corners

      respectfully, there's very little chance that would pass the average joe TSA agent comfortability test. doesn't matter if you demonstrate you've removed the blade and that scissors don't count if it gives them a bad feeling. of course, there are probably a lot of agents who would let it pass, as they should, but all it takes is one critical thinking challenged individual and it's gone. for me it's not worth losing the money to someone's stupidity, or creating an unnecessary situation

    A few weeks ago I had zero multitools. I bought the Bibury pro based off your recomendation, and I knew I was in trouble. Today in the post arrived a SOG PowerLitre, a Nextool Mini Sailor, and a Daicamping DL1. The SOG was slightly dissapointing based on the toolset and how fidly it is to access them, but I've been blown away with the quality of the rest. The Bibury is now a permanent resident in my work bag, and I don't see the Nextool leaving my 5th pocket anytime soon. Thanks a lot! I feel like I've got superpowers now haha

      I've been enjoying the Nextool Mini Sailor (pliers version). That said, just yesterday I needed to tighten the screws on my basement stairs railing and the flathead was too narrow, the reach was a little short, and I feared it was going to bend. So I went upstairs and got my Victorinox, which worked better with its large flathead. Also, it annoys me that to deploy the scissors it breaks my thumbnail every time, and then doesn't have a file to fix that. lol But I do like the tool overall.

      But well roxon is stepping up their game and this is a very good sign.
      If I have a complaint or more a minor issue it's about the glass breaker. I don't like the fact multitool manufacturers put those in almost every tool while a tiny hammer would be more useful. It sure won't replace a good hammer but as an improvised striking device this would be more useful and still be useable to break glass.

    After watching this, I picked up a KS2E to add to my pile. Nice little tool, a bit awkward in the hand due to the pretty harsh angles, could be a little more rounded, but nothing terrible. One issue I found though was the detent on the knife blade. It was so tight I could barely get the knife open one handed. I ended up taking the scales off and filing the thing down slightly (basically simulating wear). Easy enough to do, just three torx screws (one 6 and two 8s) and it was the first thing under the blade. Still, a bit annoying that I had to do it. But, for $38.00, a very good little tool.

    5cr15 is roughly in the same ball park as 1.4116, around 0.5%C and 15%Cr, I know 4116 sounds fancier but let's be real, it comes down to heat treats. and highly chances multitool company outsources their heat treatment, I wouldn't be surprise if 5cr from Chinese brands out-performed 4116 from the same brand, after all more common and familiar a steel is to the heat treatment factory, more consistent the quality. Whoever they are, they probably cook tons and tons of 5cr every day and get pretty good at it.
    that's just my knife nerd talk.

Unfortunately up here in Canada you cannot buy any of the new folding knife models that use interchangeable blades (and this has been going on for the last year or more) or other newer models, but to our friends in the south and elsewhere; congratulations 👍. P.S. I have been told that many and I mean many folding knives of all kinds are no longer available on Amazon Canada, so maybe that is the reason as our knife laws are rather like those in Europe now; not as strict but getting there 🤔.

    These look excellent, particularly the first one. I find knife and scissors are my most commonly used items, followed by something for prying-poking. Having a bunch of random tools I don’t often need is not really the point of an edc tool like this (at that point, may as well carry a full-size multitool, which is not much larger). But having big scissors along with a knife that has easy blade change is extremely practical.

    I am getting the Roxon KS2 elite soon. D2 steel on the blade is great to see, superior steel on tools, and of course the scissors look great in all the reviews, along with the extra bit kit. As for them lacking pliers, I don't care. I just got the Knipex Cobra XS (4 inch / 10 cm) pliers, and also plan on 4 inch Irwin vise grip pliers ($16). They (Irwin) also have 5 1/2" needle nose vise grips on Amazon if anyone interested. I'll be getting 4 inch carbon steel file (around 6 inches with handle) soon. So I'm making my own little tool kit to carry, since no company makes multitool with carbon steel files... YET? 🤔

      @maxlvledc  5 місяців тому +1

      hmm, like your ideas.

    • @blade9292
      @blade9292 5 місяців тому +1

      This is a thing I've been considering since a while because multitools tend to have electrician pliers but without insulation which make them not that great.
      I mean they are somewhat good at pinching but not that great, they are terrible with nuts but better than nothing and for cutting and stripping wires, they work but you can find something better. So yeah aside of a few multitools most of them suck in general and the few multitools with those very interesting pliers have either a lack of features or you have a tool set that somewhat suck. So you end up to either get a somewhat good pliers based with a good tool set and make a kit around it but you have to add anyways pliers. Or you have to consider a pliers less MT but sometimes it's better having 2 One with the blades and the other with the drivers.

    • @Northanteus
      @Northanteus 5 місяців тому

      @@maxlvledc We can thank the limitations on the multitool I had (cheap $20 bibury) from a couple of years back. 😋 I tried filing down a nail outside in my back shed and the nail won the battle, making my file a bit smoother because it is softer steel than the nail was. 😬 So that made me buy a small carbon steel file on Amazon, but it's 8 inches altogether, and now I want smaller to fit in my pocket organizer. Then I tried loosening a rusted bolt on my old mountain bike with the needle nose pliers, but the handles on pliers were opened too wide and could not get good leverage, on top of the teeth of the pliers not being that great to begin with for that task. I don't fault the multitool, I knew it had limitations and I found them, so now I'm just seeking something else to make up for such limitations. I'm really here to push companies to include a carbine steel file to their multitools. The first one who does it will probably be a big hit. As I've said in other threads, I also wish they'd make a multitool with plier head like the water pump pliers (on Knipex cobra, for example), with good, sharp teeth to grip effectively. Try to contact those companies you know and nudge them a bit with some hints. 😁

    Thanks for another excellent review. I bought the Roxon KS2E a few months ago (largely based on your review, thank you) and I have been carrying it daily since. My impressions? The tool set is excellent and I love the form factor (people do not know it's a tool). The scissors cut through lots of materials (cordage, hard plastic, etc.) no problem. They are also comfortable when applying torque. The blade and reamer / awl are durable and extremely sharp (need to be careful for one-had deployment). Have not used saw. Screwdriver works fine and I have done light prying with can opened tool (probably not recommended). Be aware this tool is thicker than your average small pocket tool and it's not light. However, daily carry lose in my pocket has not been too noticeable (the pocket clip is basically useless being both too tight and short. All in all, very happy with purchase... lots of daily utility for the money, and I like the look.

    About the KS2E, I couldn't agree more. So much so that I bought one to replace my old SAK. The locking tools are a huge selling point for me and because of that I reach for the KS2E way more often than I did with my SAK. Thanks for the reviews. I've been waiting for years for an upgrade to my daily carry, the KS (S501). I bought a spare of the old version despite its flaws because it is still so darn useful!
    Good to see that the new S501U (should have named it the KS2 instead of that boxy tool) has resolved the poor steel, made the scissors pivot with a screw instead of a rivet (so it can be taken apart for sharpening!) and included the changable blades system so we're not stuck with the terrible tanto. However, one of the most enjoyable part of the old KS, was the super smooth blade deployment using the thumbstud, which I dont think is possible with the blade change system 😢
    I wonder if we can add a thumbstud onto the blade and mod in some bearings for some 1 handed fidget action?😅

    Considering how crowded the field is, it's amazing how many niches there still are to fill. I've had the basic Roxon knife/scissors for a few years (a rec from Izzy Swan the woodworker). Aside from not being super refined or ergonomic, my only big complaint has been the softness of the steel. If they fixed that and the ergos are improved, they could have a whole stable of winners. It seems like going (at least) full D2 on everything could be the way to go, but I'm no expert. All of these companies have essentially free market research thanks to guys like you and reviews from customers on thousands of sites, so we should be getting exactly what we want at this point. The knife world has pretty much done it. Now it's looking like multi-tool manufacturers are listening and stepping up. Thanks for vids. Keep up the good work.

    Something not often mentioned in videos, but that I have learned from reading commnets, is that you are often more likely to lose your tool vs using the warranty. Most tradesmen and daily carriers wait for warranty a bit, and end up losing the tool or getting it confiscated before they send it in. Keep this in mind when weighing the warranty. It probably isn't so necessary on anything that isn't hard use.

It actually comes out quite easily if you use one thumb to push down on the the rod end side and the other thumb to pull up on the whistle side. Max, I see Roxon has a 16 in 1 hammer multi tool. I’ve always thought a hammer multi tool was a good idea but I’ve never seen one that didn’t like cheap. Would love a review of the Roxon tool and other good hammer multi tools you could find.
    The first multi-tool I ever discovered was fence pliers… a hammer, pliers, wire cutters and staple claw all in one. I mean come on that’s a lot of utility!

    I'm really interested in the KS2 Elite. I've been fairly unimpressed with Nextool's lineup, despite their cutting performance. They're just not made from reliable materials. Roxon has a 10 year warranty too. Even though I've been burned by these cheap tools before, I think I'm going to give it a shot.

My main knife literally boxcutter for 5$ even i have good folder (zt0566, 940 osborne) i use just boxcutter. And i lack of file now, i lost my previous multitool somewhere.
    So having scissors and file in one pack it’s right just to me.

    i misplaced my original KS2. So i bought the KS2 Elite as replacement. The scissor and the D2 blade are much better - sharper and cut better. I noticed the D2 blade and scissor are a bit more shinny than the older ones. The scissor on the KS2 Elite alone is already a deciding factor way over the T4. Even the scissor on my Arc is inferior when compared to the one on the KS2 E. How i wish roxon also upgrade the steel on the S802s to D2 and Din 1416.
