If you're hard to the CORE about games, get one with a 120Hz panel. It's a massive difference in visual performance. Thanks for the support as always 2D fam!
Dave Lee lol don't know about the laptop but the video was awesome.. Short nd clean still fully detailed.. PS. The newer kaby lake updated alienwares don't have heating problems..
Barry Chapman 1 mouse, 1 keyboard takes up two, a USB headphone could take up another. So you are left with 1 to 2 USB ports left. There is a lot more use for USB ports like the Firefly mouse pad, for charging your phone, external hard drives, USBs (Obviously) and much more. For that expensive of a laptop, I think they should have had more USB ports.

watching this after I bought the PC after I watched it 17 times... Does that make sense? let me put it like this: -Watched the video long time ago -watched it again -watched it 15 more times in different times -Bought the laptop -watching it again just to see where I began LOL
You're going to regret it, I owned 2 Alienware laptops and both of them encountered major problems within a year and a half. I strongly encourage anyone not to buy them.
I have the Alienware 17 R4 with the GTX 1080, 16 GB of RAM, Intel i7 7820hk 4.4 GHz, 256 SSD 1 TB, and a 2560 X 1440 TN Panel display with 120Hz inside and I love it. 😀👍🏻
He didn't so much complain as warn the handful of users that must have more that this isn't their laptop. It's an important and useful disclaimer for those people to know up top, and it's not getting in the way for anyone else. Don't imagine that just because none of your use cases are close to using up to 32GB, that's true of 100% of all computer users.
Finally! Thank you Dav, I've been waiting for the AW17 review since you made the 13&15' units 6 months ago. It was helpful that you addressed the TN panel over IPS. It was my biggest dilemma about getting this laptop, whether to choose QHD over UHD or TN over IPS or 120Hz w/ GSync vs 60Hz also 400nits vs 300nits though this isn't a big difference as they are mostly used indoors. It would have been awesome if you have gone over these features too for us specsheet nerds. Because choosing the screen is still holding me back, there's no good video showing the difference between the two panels. Great work with video Dav! I kinda wished it wouldn't end so quick..
Ummmmmm, I buy all my PCs at Dell.com and checked Amazon and the premium on Amazon is usually over 100 dollars. Most of the Dells on Amazon are 3rd party resellers, which need to make money. They WON'T be cheaper than Dell. Lol
It's not overpriced at all. For portability and having power at the same time it is worth it for people that game and move around a lot. For you it probably is since you like cheaper gaming laptops or PCs but this is still very worth it for those that have the money. Saying it is overpriced means you are saying it isn't worth it for the price but it IS worth it. Of course just my opinion.
i agree. 1080 with 1440p for 2400 is not bad plus awesome build quality. 1440p external monitors arent cheap, running anywhere from 400-800 dollars. i did a build on pc partpicker with similar specs and it runs around the same price granted i added h100i and gaming mobo. Still not bad seeing as how you can have the same specs and still be able to take it with you to your friends or school.
Here are some facts about Alienware Laptops 1. Power brick, it is always heavy (has been for past 5 years!) 2. Weight - they're heavy ass laptops, don't expect to run around with it in your backpack, you'll get serious back pains. 3. Design - not for everyone but the lighting effects are super cool 4. Price - Alienware is spendy, but will last a very long time 5. Specs - they have solid specs which usually beat the competition in performance. Look at this way, do you want a Ferrari or a Toyota Camry?!
Imo best teach youtuber. Doesn't waste any time, says only what needs to be said, gives his opinions often but states that its his opinion, Very straight forward, and dam those edits at the end. I just love how you draw the laptop in After Effects and it comes out so sick. Keep doing what you do dude :D
+JPOG7 TV I don't think it's even about Alienware tbh. I've been looking for a few weeks now, and I can't find any gaming laptop with these kinds of specs for this low a price.
Just slipping in to say... The audio and particularly the music in these videos is top notch. The animations are also flawless and just detailed enough. Bloody good show.
desktop, and chromebook. I'm in high school and I have an amazing desktop that can play all the games I wan't at highest graphics and then I have a really nice $250 chromebook that does all my school work well and wasting your money on a shitty gaming laptop that will only play on like medium to high at 40-60 fps is kinda a waste when you can have a much better and more immersive experience on a desktop.
Excellent video. A couple weeks ago I was debating between this machine and the Clevo P870KM1 and settled on the Clevo but I was genuinely surprised to see the performance and cooling you demonstrated here. Keep up the good work! You've earned a sub from me.
Hey Dave! I'm thinking about buying a laptop, and I'm looking around the alienware family. I'm between the gtx 1060 models of the 15 and the 17 inch model. Is the bigger screen of the 17 worth the thicker body, and the lesser battery life of it? Or do you think the 15 inch is better package for the gtx 1060 configuration? I'll probably buy it on eBay from Europe, to save some money.
Anestis Christidis Although it has been 11 months since you posted this comment please tell me you didn’t buy the 1060 config as the price to performance with the 1070 is a much better deal
Richard it’s your choice of course and the 1060 will run most games in 1080p with max settings max settings at 60+ FPS but the 1070 will ensure better frame rates and the ability to play with good performance at 1440p
Richard if that’s your budget then that’s the best way you could go for price to performance unless you go for another manufacturer but then you don’t get the build quality of Alienware
I always puzzled by the music you use in every of your video Dave. Yes, I read the description, this video is credited with "Fili - Dollar For My Thoughts" But the search result always turns NOTHING, yes, NOTHING, like it never existed. Other video is the same. I really want that music! ; __ ;
Guys, im planning on buying a Alienware 15 r3. I looked at Dells website and its $1600 but on Amazon its $1300 (the config i want). Should I get it from amazon? I dont want the old one with the heat problem.

We own one of Alienware laptop with i5 cpu and gtx 1050 ti video card and im very happy with it. It has overclocked to 3.5Ghz with the lowest temp of 29c, very impressed. Thank you I will buy and recommend Alienware again.
I have an m15x from 2010 that's still running. So when I decided to upgrade last year I purchased one of these. Aside from issues finding a backpack it would fit into, I'm looking forward to another 8 years with this one as well.
BugsyDan Hope you got this laptop cause i have it for almost a year and never regretted it. The aluminum and carbon fiber on it makes me feel like i got a gaming series macbook pro.
The most solid laptop I've ever owned. Both structurally and performance wise. The thing doesn't flex on the keyboard, screen hinge has just the right amount of tension and the aluminum casing is just solid. Oh and the cooling system is probably the coolest (haha) one I've seen, pure copper inline the earlier models aluminum heat pipes. Awesome review :)
I really liked the video, but I was just getting into it and then it ended. I personally prefer slightly longer format videos. Maybe others prefer the tighter editing. I loved the animation at 3:43
I don't know why I keep watching your videos if I seriously can't understand most of the things you say, but somehow I keep binge watching all of your videos, lmao.

Why do you always link to Amazon for Dell laptops? The cheapest place to buy a Dell is usually from the Dell website itself.
Aaron Johnson nope. My XPS 15 was far cheaper for the same config on amazon. Even with th 10percent discount dell was offering.
Yeah you're completely wrong. Amazon almost always comes in 300-500 dollars cheaper than dell.

Yes, I was surprised when I saw the $2400. That is a fair price when you look at its specs.

I like the way you review gaming laptop . give all the details I need and say the words clearly
love your videos. specially the end graphics hardware overview..

I gave up on you making a vid about the 17 r4.... this is such a surprise for me and im interested in buying it soo... i guess perfect timing Dave. it's gonna be ether this or the Aero 15.

Watching a laptop review 4 years later is fun 😂😂
That intro animation is sooo satisfying. 😍😍😍
Wow Dave, such a great review man! Definitely one of my favorite tech youtubers!
Just ordered the 17. I wanted a laptop that I could also run VR on, and this was the best I could find. Can't wait until it arrives next week!
hi, just wanted to say how great your video animation skills are, you really know what you're doing.
Most genuine and down to earth laptop reviewer out, awesome videos, convinced me to purchase my current laptop
We own one of Alienware laptop with i5 cpu and gtx 1050 ti video card and im very happy with it. It has overclocked to 3.5Ghz with the lowest temp of 29c, very impressed. Thank you I will buy and recommend Alienware again.
quality video editing as always, kepp it up 😀
Damn what a nice review man!! This guy is so underrated!!
I love your videos so much, it's always so well presented, like a pro. You will always have my like :3
Very informative and Great Editing!! Thanks :)
Can I ask what's the sketch animation made from? It looks super cool and I really want something like that for my project.
I have an m15x from 2010 that's still running. So when I decided to upgrade last year I purchased one of these.
Aside from issues finding a backpack it would fit into, I'm looking forward to another 8 years with this one as well.
Thank you for making this video. I was looking for a great gaming laptop and this is the one thanks to you.
BugsyDan Hope you got this laptop cause i have it for almost a year and never regretted it. The aluminum and carbon fiber on it makes me feel like i got a gaming series macbook pro.
wake up this morning and see dave's youtube notification.. im like yesss! aw17!
Great review Dave!
i have an older alienware 17, the quality of the case feels extremely cool and i absolutely love their keyboards.
Wow that overwatch part at 3:10, is that you that was playing? Thats awsome
Really like your new intro!!
The timing for this review is perfect for an alienware 17. I have one also, but it's 4th gen Intel i7 and a 860m. has done me well.
Sir, graphics you created are top notch. Kudos👍🙌
Where are your 1M subscribers, you are one of the best
What is with this crisp anatomy of the laptop?
Keep up the good work dude.
Great video as always!
I have a m14x r1 using it 24/7 for 6 years as desktop, still going strong. Alienware really built to last
I really liked the video, but I was just getting into it and then it ended. I personally prefer slightly longer format videos. Maybe others prefer the tighter editing. I loved the animation at 3:43
love ur explanation & animation!
I don't know why I keep watching your videos if I seriously can't understand most of the things you say, but somehow I keep binge watching all of your videos, lmao.
