  • The Rover 75 is SO UNDERRATED
    In this video I drive my Rover 75 (R40) Connoisseur and discuss some of its qualities; why I feel it is worth the investment to keep it on the road and what future plans do we have with "Reggie."

    Great video thank you, my bog standard 75 has now done 140,000 from new, and still runs like new, amazing car the best car I ever had, and not just an "old farts" car, although I drive a 75 and will be 75 this year!

    Used to deliver to Longbridge for R.D.S all body kits for Mg's and Rover 75 V8 complete front end all painted in stillages wrapped in hesian.
    They were very fussy then with finish specially with the V8 model 75. I've had 6 in total now driving a remapped Rover 75 diesel BMW engine contemporary . Great cars so underated.

    I own one. It is a gem in all these "looking the same " cars in todays world. A classic! Leather, cruise controll, electric power seats, Android Unit, with microphone for phone. What do you want more? Gentlemens car. I take my time. Best car I have ever had so far. greeting from Germany!

      Totally. They are a very low price as well in the UK with ‘good’ examples only around £1000-£1500.
      Such a wonderful car.

    As mentioned in another video. I bought a one (1) British Racing Green 2.0 M47R connoisseur automatic, just over 3 years ago. Its my every day driver. BRG leather interior and carpets, rear sun blind, heated seats, heated headlamp washers etc. I truly enjoy driving this car, short or long journeys. Previous cars all purchased new but never found them comfortable or on 3 occasion unreliable. Often now wonder why! I never purchase a Rover 75 previously. An amazing car.

    Great car. I also bought a 75 2.0 V6 in silver last year with only 95000 km and with a bit of work Miles (full name Sir Miles Sterling) drives and looks like new. Great quality and beautiful design. Greetings from Munich!

    I love that car!
    As a former AutoSmart van sales (not for long admittedly) I'd agree Autoglym not a bad choice.
    Nowadays a mix of Jennychem and Meguairs products keeps me happy.
    Still scouting around for a nice 75 or MGZT but with current costs of living stretching finances am not committing.

    I don't mind if people underrate my 75 , I just smile every time the big K is nicely warmed up , and I pass them with 140 km an hour silent and confident , seeing them become litle dots in the mirror .
    Oh yaeh , I am a 60 year old farth .

    The Rover 75 gets pilloried because everything produced by Rover Group or BL gets pilloried. It is a national sport. People who show disproportionate hatred of this company regret that the then Labour Government nationalised BL in 1975 and the Conservatives abstained. Nationalisation is not of itself controversial for them (Rolls Royce was nationalised in 1971) but the fact that a Labour Government protected the jobs of a group of Communists when they could have punished the Communists and their striking colleagues by closing the plant. I think that reviews of BL cars are just politics by proxy. Whilst I have no love of the Morris Marina I knew others who owned them and were happy with them.

    • @LivetoDriveUK
      @LivetoDriveUK  Рік тому

      I also think we are good at trying to put ourselves down. Back in the day of strikes and “Red Robo” I cannot believe any cars were produced. The 75 is a solid, well built and comfortable machine and the prices of them today are so low (even for a good one) that they make for a great car. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

    Whilst growing up, I used to think of Rover as an old fart's car, then come 16 yrs old, they went bust, they were the brunt of a few jokes as I recall. Now I'm 32 and a tad wiser, I've come to realise how understated these 75s are, I can't help but feel a little sad about the whole thing. These were/are great cars, just too late for poor old Rover (or maybe I've just become overly nostalgic? 😂)

    • @LivetoDriveUK
      @LivetoDriveUK  2 роки тому +1

      Ah yes, getting nostalgic. You just wait until you’re 54 😂 The 75 was the only Rover that was properly funded (by BMW) but unfortunately on launch day they chose to use the day to moan that the UK government weren’t going to help fund a very overdue investment at Longbridge. That was the beginning of an end that saw Rover sold for £10. Yes I absolutely love the 75. Great build quality, tight shut lines, double bulk head and thicker side glass makes it a very comfortable and quiet place. Thanks for watching.

    I bought a 1.8T tourer a couple of years ago which had an unknown history apart from a recent head gasket change . I had fitted a engine watchdog coolant alarm .The display sits above the radio and shows the temperature and alarms at coolant loss which a few month later alerted me to coolant loss . I noticed over pressure in the coolant expansion tank and concluded that the exhaust gas was most likely entering the combustion chamber .Another head gasket failure or cracked block? I decided to buy an 2014 MG 6 engine from a scrap yard and had this fitted . This has worked out brilliantly .I now have a smooth driving car that is just a pleasure to own and drive. So many of these cars were scrapped but with a little digging around in the forums and online research these cars can be kept on the road.

    • @LivetoDriveUK
      @LivetoDriveUK  Рік тому

      The head gasket is a negative to an otherwise great engine. I agree many cars, too many cars, are scrapped which is such a shame. I know people have different levels of funding but others sometimes just buy them with an MOT and drive them until it fails. All the best with your MG 6 powered 75. Love them. I really do think the tourer is one of the best looking cars.

    I love your enthusiasm, completely justified. That is a great car beautifully presented. One of the last proper British production cars. As the years go by, there is no doubt, it will be in ever greater demand. As a South coaster, I greatly enjoyed your laconic Brummy delivery. BTW, I just bought a 2003 75 Connoisseur 1950 auto tourer... picking it up next week. I would like to think I could bring it up to the standard of Reggie.

    • @LivetoDriveUK
      @LivetoDriveUK  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks. I also believe it is one of the last proper Rover Group cars and it should have had a better launch rather than the [then] owners BMW who used it as a way to complain to the government about needing cash to invest. Reggie is in good order now but I think the camera always makes cars look even better 😁 Hope you enjoy your 75. All the best. Paul.
