These tutorials are wonderful!!! Thank You Malte for going slow enough for us beginners to be able to follow along. It’s so exciting to be able to learn these beautiful melodies and play them with you.
Thank you so much, Malte. I am really starting to feel the true possibilities of my handpan. And it’s very relaxing and a true pleasure to learn with your videos. Peace. Best, Jose (PORTUGAL)
It really and truly does not matter how many times I watch & listen to you play, I am forever in awe and totally hypnotised by your skill and flow. Thank you so much for these handpan tasters, I am improving all the time and loving my instrument more each day ✨🙏🏽
Thanks so much for all these tutorials Malte ! I am really enjoying them having just recently found them . I am also doing your Masterclass at the same time...slowly but surely. It too is great to be experiencing. There is so much to learn , and even what seems to be relatively simple , not always the case for me. These basic patterns are wonderful as a foundation for learning more easily your MTH course. Wow !! Thanks again for sharing your knowledge, and certainly enjoy your obvious love for this instrument.
Este Tutorial, vale oro!!! Tengo el handpan hace 1 semana, y con este tutorial estoy aprendiendo mis primeras melodías, del mejor!!! Muchas Gracias Genio! Saludos desde 🇦🇷

thank you so much, dear malte! this is a beautiful pattern, quite simple but amazing relaxing and dreaming away. very good explanations in a good tempo 🙏. go on please💙
thanks for your effort and your mood. I don't have a handpan, but I am waiting for more...Ever since this instrument was revealed, I have aspired to own one and learn how to play it... I guess I'm waiting for myself to drag me into my real hungers.
wonderfull what you teach me! very comfortable, because explained slowly - as i like it. no stress. i can do it at once and do not feel like a bloody handpan-greenhorn..........
Hi, Malte. First of all thank you for the great support and lovely music you bless the world with. I am struggling with the slap technique. Do you have any video on this so I could practice? Lots of good vibes from Brazil!
Thank you so much for this! I am a beginner and struggle to figure out what to do with my handpan. These patterns are beautiful and you clearly showed us how to create them on our own. Now I can make something that resembles music and keep myself inspired to keep trying. BTW, I learned music on the piano and think in terms of notes on the scale. Do you have a tutorial that helps us understand the numbering system for the notes on the handpan?
Malte your videos are a great help in learning so many Technics to make the hand pan come alive... Thank You. ... I am not sure whether to stay with a 10 note or go to a 9 note or 12 note.? . . I broke both my wrists and my left thumb and find it hard to get a sound from the note circles with middle finger tap or thumb tap. I am right handed but my left wrist has more damage and find it hard to play notes on the left side of the pan . I am using my right hand as the main dominant hand. Any one have any suggestions how I can play with my injuries and get some decent sound.?? I played the cello for 54 years and just gave it up because of my left wrist fracture , I could not be in tune any more. I had to also give up the guitar for same reason. .. I have played the pan flute too.. ...... So I have come over to the handpan now and will try my best to learn everything about playing this wonderful instrument and master it's voices and sound .... .................................... I am following Malte Marten's videos on chords and patterns .. Malte I have read you full biography, from when younger composing orchestra music , movie scores and hip hop beats to 2014 discovering the handpan to present day. Well done .
Hi malte!
Hey Malte, what key/scale/mode is your handpan in? I got one of my own recently in a major key, but I love your sound and would like to adjust my own. I tried minor but on second listen it sounds a bit like Locrian.
Thank you for these. I have watched literally hours of your content including your meditative jams in nature collaborations. A couple of things. Could you please make sure that we can hear your voice? You are talking very quietly and with your soft accent as well you are hard to hear. Second thing, can you try to make a point to stress especially in every beginner video, not just one, the importance of warming up the muscles before touching the handpan? Some people have shoulder elbow wrist hand injuries etcetera and would develop tendonitis and bursitis from these repetitive movements which must be avoided with soft tissue injuries. Please try to think about physical therapy and suggest that people go through entire range of motion ROM, with their shoulders and arms, before spending hours locking muscles into a limited motion, which will lead to a higher rate of injuries. Yes, technically we should all know this anyway. Few actually do it in practice, but would with a reminder. Or maybe they would learn after doing these exercises and having to recover for 3 weeks?? Or maybe they would give up and get rid of the handpan when they could have had a lifetime of fun had it not been too physical for them. Also, for people with disabilities or older people, or just generally not in the best fitness, holding this heavy pan in our laps to do a simple exercise with four or five notes is also too fatiguing and too much for not actually playing and jamming. Please keep in mind that you have already been doing this for 10 years, starting from a young age and before your body was broken down for working for a lifetime until you were in your 60s and beyond. You have developed the muscles to make it look effortless, but now you need to put in the effort if you are going to teach others to teach them properly and remind them before every single lesson to warm up. I know you are too busy to do these videos like you said. I also know the reason you are too busy is because you are trying to make a lot of money with this now instead of for the love and fun of it. The master handpan class tutorials with multiple instructors telling each person to play a different way is very confusing, and overkill.. Each instructor already has your own UA-cam channels, but now you are trying to get rich quick with your academy and trying to sell lessons and sell the most expensive instruments and saying comments about "imported Asian drums" that are in a negative light. Do you not realize your drums are imported European drums??? For thousands of dollars what you can get for hundreds of dollars. You are all clearly getting your multiple handpans for free from the manufacturer to do these extended commercials and somehow call it academy that we are supposed to pay for. You guys are taking this in the wrong direction. You should be working on your own careers and your own playing. You can share your talents with others but making people pay you for it now is ruining the very vibe that is supposed to be shared by all in your "An Hour by the creek, lake, woods, etc videos. I realize this is your career, but you do not realize this is not everybody else's career. Especially if you are going to charge people for teaching them, you should teach them properly. It should I'll be done for the gain of others, but your agenda is clearly for the gain of you and your "MASTER COHORTS' I guess you got bored of playing with your friends, and bored of playing for an hour by yourself which shows on your face in your videos, and I guess you have found every note and cord combination and every technique by now, and have played every handpan in every key and every scale and every size, so in 10 years you have become bored of what you did with handpans. So you've gone commercialism and that is what is destroying handpans way more than anything that was ever "imported from China". Please also watch for the racist kind of comments putting down imports from countries that are not your own especially when talking to other countries that are not your own. Clearly, this is not all related to this one video and tutorial, but your complete online social media presence, and self-promotion. You are being more harmful than helpful to beginners. I know you are too busy to read this or respond to it or actually learn and make any changes, but perhaps other beginners will see this and become aware they need to look out for quality and VALUE in hand pan players not just in handpans. Just because they are slapping big price tickets on their hand pans and charging huge fees for their so-called academy and then huge fees for their courses from their so-called Masters and then huge fees for selling their what they are referring to as racially Superior handpans, literally saying European handpans are worth thousands and Chinese handpans are junk. That is not too cool and goes against the entire handpan personality one should have to be touching such an instrument and leaves a bad taste in the mouth when you are over exposing yourself and your goals and ambitions have changed from good and authentic to shallow and taking advantage people. End of PSA. For now.
This makes my heart very sad to read. You don’t know how much of my lifeforce and love flowed and still flows into all what I do. I respect your opinion tho and wish that you’ll seek for your own peace rather than projecting your issues on others. I won’t reply another time, because yes I have plenty of other things to do. Still wishing you and your loved ones just the best - health, confidence and abundance. And thank you for taking the time to share your honest opinion. I hope one day we sit together and you get to know my story and my true intentions. Take care 💛
Please keep posting tutorial videos from time to time, even if they don't get a lot of views you are a real treasure for beginners
