I so badly want a handpan... The PERFECT percussion instrument IMHO just highly doubt I'll be playing one this side of Heaven... I literally do these technique, and have since I was a kid in the 70's, on anything my fingers can find... Never heard of handpan til a couple years ago and it just literally FLOODS my soul. No other instrument moves me like this and I've been making music my entire life in one form or another.
It's interesting how the sound of the instrument just touches/attracts some of us so much (me included). Why do you think you'll never have one, they are becoming more and more affordable.
@@DavidKuckhermann I'm quickly on my way out and haven't been able to work for a few years and refuse a check if we have a roof and food. Some things just aren't meant to be, that's all. Thank you for the response, though! Did not expect that.
I think this the best made music tutorial on the internet (yes I mean best I've seen for all musical instruments, not just for handpan!) Well done, and thank you for your efforts to articulate you knowledge in format that is easy and a pleasure to consume
Thank you for your thoughtful ability to share your experiences with us. It is very inspiring and helpful to have a structured approach to the art of the Handpan. Your videos open up wide vistas for exploration and refinement for those willing to put in the time and energy. Herzlichen Dank.
Hi there! I'm just here because I have been mesmerized by the handpan since the first time I heard one. I'm no musician, so I have no idea what I'm looking at here. You are very talented and I enjoyed your video.
Thanks a lot David. You're just a perfect teacher. I'm on handpandojo and it's amazing. I really love your system and the related structure, where everything builds up on each other. Just logic, and helpful because of that. So I could only recommend it... who likes handpanfriday will love the dojo! Keep on and have a great time!
I'm in love with that Valter drum box too! & how after thinking all the notes were left open (just before about 8:00) and then you held some. Wow. makes me want to vacation in Germany for some tutelage.
This taught me a lot! I used to have a Cajon before I had a handpan but never could get into it. I might get one again and try some of the stuff from this vid!
How can some people dislike this video...? I would never understand... Anyway, great one again. I love those grooves too. I also enjoy Maqsum (I know, quite a classic one! ;) ), Beledi (or "Baladi"), Malfouf, Chiftitelli and others from arabic culture (lots are used in belly dance) but also more "Hip-Hop"-kind rhythms. :)
@@DavidKuckhermann you're more than welcome. ;) That's probably one of the many reasons why I follow and appreciate (and sometimes support) your work (and music) since quite a while. :)
Yes! Love these grooves so much!! I've learnt this beautiful instrument for a year now and long way to go. After watching and listening to your music and lessons here, you have gained a new student of HPD. Love your style. 🙏
Thank you so much through this video now i have an idea how (my love enstrument) hang has playing :) i hope when i buy a handpan i'll say you're my first teacher
Hey Wilmar, nimm dir erst mal einen groove vor und fang langsam an. Du kannst das Video auf 50% langsamer anschauen. Hast du ein Instrument mit der gleichen Stimmung?
Love your work and thank you for sharing your knowledge. I have started my hand pan journey with you and could not switch to anyone else. I’m buying your courses soon want to see how you teach step by step. ❤
Sorry Georgia, I don’t understand what you mean. For each of the sequences I recorded one round of handpan solo before the drums enter, so that you can hear it by itself.
great lessons! for my part I learn on a Hand Kurd 7 with two notes of disharmony ... suddenly I play his exercise with 5 notes! So complicated, but possible ... Thanks David!
Yes :) Awesome tutorials David!! You can tell you really put a lot of love in making these, they are clear and entertaining. Thanks for sharing your great rhythmic skills, I can't wait to try out some of these rhythms. You might want to consider doing tutorials on odd time signatures. Especially with the notation you use for handpan, these will become understandable for more people. Keep it up!!
Great videos! I have already started to wait for them :) and I waited to arrive home to look at this new one when I saw the new release on my phone :) My favourite from the video is the Khaligi... From my personal favourit I use on handpan is tha Malfuf rythm... keep going please :)
Awesome! Yea, such a groovy and useful rhythm. The closely related Malfuf is great as well, very flexible. The 3-3-2 pattern pps up in almost every music tradition for a reason. :)
Yea, that’s confusing at first. But once you have a few different hand pattern combinations in your repertoire, it will give you a whole new level of flexibility!
T and K stand for the same stroke "Tak", which can also be called Ta or Ka. Both letters stand for exactly the same stroke. There is a link in the video description to an explanation video for the notation.
Really good rhythms, especially the last one. But sadly enough, it is in fact not possible to get a hang. Could you recommend a "substitute" ? What Do you think of the Caisa from Dortmund, if you know. Are the tones organised the same?
Very beautiful your videos, I would like to ask you a question, I would like to know where can I buy a Handpan and choose the right scale for me? Thank you
You're welcome :). I usually publish my courses on www.handpandojo.com, but David C. and myself are considering a collaboration of some kind for the future.
