  • This video is a tutorial on how to set the APD Carbs Primary and secondary idle. This video features John Kyle, and Myself. John is the owner of Advanced Product design(APD). We are working together on a series of carb tuning videos. This applies to his APD series of carburetors. The principle of the adjustment is the same. Make sure engine is warmed up, make sure throttle cable unhooked, make sure throttle cable is adjusted correctly, all throttle blade open with throttle pedal to the boards.
The procedure is quite simple, just important to do it the same order.
Warm up car, unhook throttle linkage
    1. Back off the Primary throttle blade adjustment screw, until you have an air gap between the adjusting screw, and throttle bracket.
    2. Back off Secondary throttle blade adjustment screw, until you have an air gap between the adjusting screw, and secondary throttle blade bracket.
    3. Then loosen lock nut, and back off Anti-stick threaded rod
    4. Tighten Primary throttle blade adjustment screw, until it just touches the Primary throttle blade bracket.
    5. Tighten Secondary throttle blade adjustment screw, until it just touches the Secondary throttle blade bracket
    6. Then tighten Primary throttle blade adjustment screw in 2 1/2 turns in (Clockwise), then repeat the procedure to the Secondary throttle blade adjustment screw, 2 1/2 turns in.
    7. Then tighten the Anti-Stick rod in, until it just touches the bracket, then back off 1/2 out, (counterclockwise), and tighten lock nut

Hoping so too don. Not everything is applicable to Holley carbs. Will have in depth discussions on difficult topics too

Short and sweet. The first was poor quality, but lots to hear, so left it up. Not sure what is next, accelerator pump, A/F , idle mixture. I need to text him. Been so busy with my own car. Thanks

People need to realize this is specific to APD carburetors.
    Thanks for sharing Tim.

As always, great vid, Tim. Even though some of the advise given here might be applicable to APD carbs exclusively, the points made in the video can apply to any carburetor. One can end up with a carburetor that seems totally jacked up because too many changes/adjustments were made without understanding cause and effect. I've been guilty of it, myself. Holley claims that most carburetors returned as "defective" were, in fact, quite serviceable once adjusted back factory specs. These carbs are typically resold as "refurbished". I've purchased two refurbished QFT's that functioned flawlessly right out of the box. BTW, these APD carbs appear to be a work of art!!

      @DragBoss351Cleveland  2 місяці тому +1

Thanks Rotorr, I tried to make statements and put in description to clarify, between the two. John has said the same thing, he has seen defective carbs, and it is simply adjustment. When all else fails, go back to factory settings. They are a work of art, no doubt. Someone rec I make videos on Holley carbs, not sure on that yet.

Carbs have always had some difficulty and issues for many. But they are not that technical. At least basic tune, it’s when you get into bleeds and passages where it gets cloudy. More on the way

Great presentation. Very good audio. Easy to view and follow along. Yes, technically applicable to APD carbs but there's info that can translate to 1450 and 4500 series carbs of "that other manufacturer" and others of similar design.

Very interesting on the adjustment of the accelerator pump. I’ve always adjusted them at wot and making sure the diaphragm isn’t bottoming out on the float bowls with 0 gap between the pump arm and cam. That way with the slightest movement of the throttle the engine receives fuel. But I dealing with a standard Holley nothing trick like that bad boy!!😁

I have a 3 circuit carb 1250 cfm each(2x) and I see the carb you have is a 3 circuit and not many people use them but I hope you will touch base on the intermediate circuit adjustment. I have the smallest air bleed.024" and now drilling the jet and discharge jet so far I am at 14.9 afraid so just a little to go.
