For those who don't know, the stylised hand is a 'hamsa', a popular amulet in the Middle East, used as protection against the evil eye. Very beautiful take, Uri!
One of the most interesting persons on UA-cam, A breath of fresh air. Nothing boring, nothing standard, self-defined - admirable. Pre-enactment or is it simulation, or rehearsal?
Fantastic, thank you for sharing. Some years ago I made a gearstick knob for my car and spray finished it and it didn't last very long, firstly the varnish wasn't thick enough and secondly living in Croatia I use sunscreen which reacted with the spray varnish and it became very sticky and was horrible. I have since resanded it and used a 2 component polyurethane varnish which is fantastic.
Dear Uri, you´r videos are made with soooo much love. Even tho you dont have the best fancy schmancy equipment at hand, you still make so beautifull pieces. We all can see how much fun you have while working on your projects and also while editing your videos. Thank you for another lovely piece of youtube history.
It's so nice to see you back and making stuff again. As always great work my friend. We missed ya buddy. The open package going up the ramp was funny too lmao.
Nice build and great video mate! I hope you get the time to produce videos more often, as you are by far my favorite UA-camr. Cheers and thanks for sharing.
When I was growing up, my grandparents had a big 70s motorhome they would drive up to a nearby lake every spring and live out of until fall, and that knob would not have looked at all out of place on that old gearstick. Very well done!
@@droppedpastaEngine turning is done on one of several kinds of engine engraving machines. There are straight line engravers, circular engravers, and rose engines. Uri, I found something I want to see you make. Its called a Two Legged Parser. Its a brass inlay tool. You can make a steel pattern and then make a Two Legged Parser drill and it will cut out your shape and then you can inlay brass in to your projects. Let me know if you see this message. I seen a video about it on some other channels and thought that it would be something that you can make your dove with and a few other things. Look in to it as I think you can use this and it would be a super cool project that you could do. Its up your alley of weird tools.
One great move is roll a strip of Scotch-brite and shove it through a large washer (which stops it from unrolling) and then you can use that in a drill press or hand drill to make quick work of taking sanding marks out of aluminum
Hello Uri, The requirement was vintagey and orangey... You met the requirement on both counts... As always an enjoyable video, thank you. Take care. Paul,,
"Pre-enactment"... It's a word now! You just invented it (or "coined it", to use the English term for inventing new words)! And an excellent word it is. I have to find somewhere to use it!
The term "coined" is similar to "formalised" or "popularised", others may have used it is passing, but one who coins a term brings it's existence to fruition. Words are not invented, or in the least case, this avoids petty squabblings of the progenitor's identity.
@@LaserGadgets it can be quite durable with the right process. Still, for something that gets touched all the time something chemical resistant (i.e. clear coat) is better.
@@LaserGadgets mechanically strong, chemically feeble. Like I said, the right process makes all the difference. Mechanically durable shellac needs to be a.) Mixed yourself from pellets, b.) Mixed too thin in a very volatile solvent and c.) Applied in a dozen or so thin layers and allowed to dry completely between (which is why you use a very volatile solvent, drying would take forever otherwise). My personal choice for this piece would be paste wax, rubbed in to get a satin-ish finish, but to get it that shiny clear coat was the right choice.

I hope that one day, my channel is established enough to post a knob polishing video to great the joyous reception of my subscribers. You polish a heck of a knob Uri.
Part of me is very amused by the leftover space in the delivery box, the other part is wondering if I can order something for when I buy my own camper van!!! 🤔
Love that saw you used in the beginning, did you make that or was that a purchased saw ? If you dont mind me asking, that knob came out awesome!!!!!!!!

@@frankierzucekjr Totally agree.
I was wondering where he was from, so glad to finally find out the he is from Prussia!
It also finally explained the accent.
Ah yes, in the 70s the White Hand of Sauraman still claimed an allegiance with the Eye of Motdor. Deep cut.
What a wonderful knob! Not an item, a piece of art :) As always with Uri.
