- The Electronic Audio Experiments Model feT is a beloved pedal in many different circles. I have certainly enjoyed my time noodling with one. But a recent conversation with John Snyder revealed something about the pedal that I never knew and it's changed the way I look at this amazing preamp pedal. Have you ever tried the Model feT in the FX Loop?

This was one of the first pedals I wanted when I got back into them. I ended up with a longsword and halberd but this totally still reignited my gas for it... thanks Ryan! lol.
The first track is that sought after singing lead tone that remains articulate.
Well done !
I can confirm that the model feT works incredibly well straight into the effects return, and that's how I mainly use mine. Also, John of EAE, major props on your mewithoutYou shirt. I've been a gigantic fan of them for years now.
I wish they were back 😞 “I was tossed like a ball at the bottle stand”
@@maykolllopez1585 I'm so sad they're gone.
@@antipusrises Same my favorite line is “But Tiger, why sit still, as the officer climbs the hill, what stars cast down their spears, cool their fires with their tires. Gone that siren sound, it’s a silence now pours down, gone my next of kin, and all once without now lives within.“
Their lyrics was just so beautiful.
Your guitar playing is fantastic and aligns perfectly with my taste as a listener and player. Bravo and thank you!
thanks so much!
I don't have a Model feT, but a GroundFX Burning Sunn.. I have an ampless 100% board-based setup using the Burning Sunn as a preamp and a Joyo Cab Box for power amp emulation and IR loading (using the Dr. Bonkers Sunn IRs).. Sounds INCREDIBLE and just like the real thing!
I've had one for a while and knew that you could do this but never tried it out for some reason. Now it will probably be the first thing I do when I get home later.
I love my feT. But I’d did not know to run it that way. I’ll be giving it a go tomorrow.
What a fantastic "in the mix" song! Awesome
Whoa! Massive difference. I kinda don’t hate either option, but wow that sounds great as a preamp.
Just. Wow. I had no idea you could just go into the receive and bypass the preamp. I know what I’m doing this weekend. 🤘🎸
that was a stellar(!) jam/song.
Wow, so much more character!
Sounds amazing!
You’re killing my bank account. Haha.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the effects loop of the Vincent just bypass the Vinny circuit, but keep the Chimera preamp? I could have sworn Chris has said somewhere that he refuses to use traditional pre to post insert effects loops.
Either way, it still sounds awesome, and John is truly a high level wizard with ridiculously good stats.
This is true, I believe that if the Vinny dirt preamp/power amp 1w channel isn’t active, then going in the front or into the effects loop return would be the same exact signal hitting the chimera preamp which is altered by the bass and treble controls on the left side of the amp. The Vinny is only affected by the right side controls. The effects loop is really to allow you to put the Vinny dirt through the time based effects loop before hitting the most likely clean chimera 30w, and thereby getting good tube dirt at lower volumes.
You look and sound like you're having way too much fun. I am jealous.
I want one so bad
yeah, you don’t put dirt IN the loop, but you do put preamps into the return. you just don’t really want the amp’s preamp running into your dirt boxes (normally, but who decides what 😅).
🤘👍🏿
I thought this was obvious with pre-amp/amp-in-a-box pedals. I've tried placing some pre-amp pedals in front of amps but it always sounds pretty awful.
you're wiser than me!
It’s a preamp, man. You can bypass a preamp with a preamp pedal and go straight to the power amp. It’s not a dirt pedal.
thanks for clearing that up, david.
@@DemosInTheDark Anytime, Demos. Typically people are taught that only time effects go into the effects loop of your amp, and that is usually correct because the effects loop occurs between the preamp and the power amp, and you want time effects after the eq and gain. You would want to put dirt, fuzz, modulation, and things of that nature before your preamp where the EQ is, to dial in that tone. if you have a pedal with the word “preamp” on it, you can completely bypass your amp’s preamp and go straight into that Return jack to the power amp, effectively replacing one preamp with the other. Really, the only reason you might want to stick a preamp further up your signal chain is if you have a specific effect you are looking for such as using it to boost a fuzz.
Who knew? The fx return thing should be obvious. It's marketed as a preamp, so why would I run it into another preamp? Doesn't make sense.
do you make a habit of insulting people who don't know something you do?
Post rock through a model t? I think you guys missed the mark just a little bit on the type of people looking at this pedal lmao
oh cool cuz the request from john was to do something outside of the well worn path you are speaking of. can’t get anything passed you.
Kewl pedal but you will never get what makes the SUNN))) T special from a pedal... that happens at volume... incredible volume.
That's why we made it obscenely loud :) We like to say it's 90% of the Model T sound for 10% of the price.
@@electronicaudioexperiments Yeah, I usually keep the volume pretty low on mine because it gets crazy loud.
🦻WHAT?
Wow, so much more character!
