- You may be wondering how much you need to live in the province. Our family has been here for about 2 years and we narrowed down the things we regularly spend on on a monthly basis.
Disclaimer: We DO NOT pay rent (thankfully) so this figure includes everything mentioned in the video minus that. We also included miscellaneous items such as those for health maintenance, and extracurricular activities such as taekwondo and swimming classes in the province.

Hello! We are a family of 4 building our own home in La Union Philippines. After 25+ years of living in Toronto, Canada, we decided to move back to the Philippines to start a new chapter.
We are in the initial phases of our home build. Our goal in this new chapter is to prioritize those important to us, things that add value to our lives, and master the art of simple intentional living. The real fun is about to begin!
In this channel, you will find a snippet of our province life, as well as things we learn along the way.

Were currently building a home near Vigan, Ilocos Sur but we've been living in Batac City, Ilocos Norte since we relocated here a year ago.
Your monthly budget is spot on, as ours is almost exactly the same as yours. We initially planned to have a $1200 monthly budget, but have been able to stay between $650-$800.
This depends on how often we take road trips, or how many times per month we decide to drive 1.5 hrs south to check our build site.
Visit nyo po yung thunderbird resort sa Poro Point, La Union. Santorini like resort of the Ph. Super ganda jan ☺️
Hangang hanga talaga ako sa magasawang 2, nakakatuwa ..💗💗💗
You seem much happier over there 😊
yes please put construction content dos and donts tips and things you wish you knew constructing your home.
Noted! Thanks for the comment!
Never pay the contractor the full amount....most of them(not all) would not finish the contract
You’re looking young na andyan ka sa Pinas.
You’re so lucky you have the option to move back.
Love watching your update with constructions …exciting 😊👍👏
Thank you for the updates. After watching this video and talking to my wife. We are both surprise how expensive Philippines has gotten. We will still be there in February but i would have to hold back another year or two to be officially retire. I really thought $2000 would be enough to retire and have a Okay life. We will still buy land before properties gets more expensive there. One thing I realize, I would not be able to afford family vacation to other countries which has been the plan. Our ticket that we bought six month in advance from Las Vegas to Philippines was $9k USD for the four of us. I have sibling here that i want to see here in Las Vegas. But I would not be able to afford with $2k USD amonth budget. Unless my wife want to go back to work there as a Nurse which her license is still active their in the Philippines. My wife would say no because nurse there some part of la union salary is around $350 to $450 USD a month which i heard from a person that i help to send to school. Sorry if you cannot understand what I just wrote, I’m very dyslexic.
Live in the town, there are so many nice towns in the Philippines cheaper and quieter, land are cheaper
$9K for 4 is pretty steep.. I hope at least it's a direct flight & round trip.. just be careful when you're getting ur carry on bags checked @ the PH airport, that u don't have any cash or valuable items that can be stolen; I've been finding videos on yt about these kinds of crimes..
Would love to have a vacation home in the Philippines 🇵🇭 😊
Though my situation doesn't yet allow me to make this happen, I'm hopeful that it will when the right time comes & soon, God willing 🥀
Good luck to your ventures!!
Thank you!!
To help answer Keith’s question, if in case they want to build a house, im not sure if they already got funds to build one but if they want to get a housing loan, i think 400-600usd a month payable for 10-12 yrs is not bad. Much better than renting long-term. That is already a decent house with paint, tiles, garage and all.
If they got extra lot near school/offices, they can probably build a rental place too. Boarding houses/ bed spacers are common in the ph. Could be an option for a stream of income for them too.
Your tagalog now sound more like a local. 😊 It was already good before but I just notice this time that it sounds much like a local. Time and consistency really helps. As a bisaya, tagalog is a struggle for me as well. It was only after a year of living in manila when I realize I can keep up convos already.
Thank you! 😃
Hello there, what’s the minimum cost a single person can live a ordinary life in Philippines?
Definitely what we posted in the video is too much, thats for a family of 4. The food you'd have to divide by 4, your rent for a single person will be cheaper... there's a lot of factor that makes it alot less. Transportation if your willing to take trikes and jeeps would be cheaper options. In the end it all depends in your lifestyle do you want frugal, lavish or in the middle. : )
@@oursimpleandextraordinarylife yes agree it’s depends on our lifestyle and location, provincial area with controlled cost will be good I think. Thank you and cheer up.🙏
What about average private school tuition fees?
Seems to be 100-200 USD per month avg.
In my experience most schools websites show tuition fees just look up schools in the city you want to live.
What can I afford for $5500 a month?
