As an Irish Terrier owner, this is the most accurate description of ITs that I've seen so far. Most videos just copy old and outdated information from one another. Thanks for giving this fantastic breed justice!
Just rescued one from a kill shelter. 2 year old female, had to sleep on the area rug in the livingroom for the last 2 nights for her to get comfortable around me but now she is starting to cheer and open up. What a fun breed!
I am delighted to see a video about Irish terriers. I am now on my fourth in the last 20 years, and cannot contemplate having a different breed of dog. However, Irish terriers bark. Irish terriers destroy things. Irish terriers are very difficult to train. Irish terriers are willful and devious. In other words, completely wonderful.
Everything you read here about the Irish Terrior is SPOT ON! I adopted my little Lila from a shelter here in my home town and I didnt know what a great little girl i was taking home with me. I feel bad for the her previous owner. They don't know what they gave up. I love love love my little girl. She is such a special breed and I would love to have another one. Thank you Lord for giving me Lila. ❤
Thank you for your video. I am the proud owner of an Irish terrier. They are a loyal, hardworking, spirited and intelligent breed. With the right amount of training, exercise and attention they make fantastic family dogs with a keen nose and instinct to chase, track and dig. Not for everyone but those who want a daredevil in the fields, a guard dog for their home and an Irish gentleman at heart the best dog in the world! So raise your glasses for the Irish terrier. Slange!!
This woman described Irish Terriers so accurately! I actually never grew up with dogs and had allergies to dogs and cats, but decided on an IT for my first dog after doing extensive research. I had mild allergic reactions the first week with my IT and then gone! ITs are so intelligent, loving, loyal and good-natured. I never worry about my girl with other dogs or children. They love being outdoors and can handle lots of exercise. The video is incredibly accurate, my IT only barks when someone comes to the door. She gobbles up her food and is very food driven but I feed her on a schedule and she is fine. For a treat she'll do almost anything. She was easy to crate train. They're just great dogs all around. I highly recommend them.
I grew up with my first Irish terrier born the same year as I . She lived to be 14 my second one I have for 12 years and I am now 30 latter going to get a new puppy next week. A little girl from a breeder in Tenn. USA I am so excited to have her already picked out a name for her Else. After my Aunt who used to show them in Chicago, my Grandfather was a breeder and showed also. Rudolph Jensen from Chicago. He was really big in the 50s and 60s here in the states.
Great breed , you might have heard of my grandfathers dogs bred and showed under the teltown kennel , quite famous in the dog world produced many champions including one who was crowned world dog of the year in 1979 I believe,
These dogs have a great sense of humor, they are loving, and incredible athletes. I have a 5 year old IT and I only wish I would have discovered this breed earlier, so I could have more time to experience them.
*THANK YOU SO MUCH* for such a fascinating and informative insight into this wonderful breed. You’ve given me a lot of food for thought and taken me several steps closer to deciding which breed most closely typifies the qualities and attributes I’m looking for in a dog, and would also be the best match for what I can offer the dog in return... 😊🤝🐕
I've had 3 Beautiful Sweet Airedales and looking to go smaller this time around even though I love that breed. I'm in my 50's but good shape and am looking at the Irish Terrier and Welsh Terrier in the future. Also looking for a reputable breeder in the US. I treat my dogs like my kids plenty of love and fun times with training though. lol
@@alexawhite2910 I just purchased an Irish Terrier from Stonewall Farm, he should be here in a week. It's so awesome to see your comment. Makes me a bit more confident in my decision.
@@Artress357 That's where I purchased Bailey from!! Are you on the West Coast? It's been 5 years and I'm still happy with my decision. I get stopped all the time by people asking me what type of dog I have or telling me how cute Bailey is, so get prepared for the attention. :)
I have kept terriers all my life! Usually Lakeland working strain and patterdales! Even an English bull terrier! However I'm now wanting a new dog after being dog free and heartbroken due to the deaths of my last two! I now feel ready and I keep looking at the Irish! I have never known one although ive met a few! How do they compare to other terriers? Please could anyone tell me what they understand please! Thanks Jamie!
Sorry for your loss. It is very hard to live without a dog if that is what you are used to. I would recommend putting out a plea on a breed specific page to meet some. Or even visit a few breeders :)
@@NaturallyHappyDogs I have got a new Lakeland terrier puppy in December of last year he's a lovely little dog but he is a busy little fella..i can't believe how much he looks like a small Irish terrier and I am told that the Irish terrier is the oldest terrier and was used in the creation of the Lakeland terrier..
get a puppy? My friend had an old IT lady, she was a very well mannered dog who loved everyone, now I have her grand daughter and my friend has one also. The dog is a huge pet (don´t know a better word), she just loves to either have hughe activity and pull fights, or to cuddle. She has to be anywhere where you are doing anything, and has to sleep pressed to me in bed. It is really demanding as I am single, but this dog will love you forever and do whatever it sees in your eyes (just wait when it is out of puberty :D )
Whenever the dogs are outside off the leash they seem to be jumpy and unruly... Is that the breed or is it the way the dogs in this video were brought up?
I have an Irish Terrier. I would love to hear the experience of an Irish farmer who thought it was a good idea to tear the hair from their dog. We will never allow someone to tear the hair off our dog. Stripping equates to someone wanting to tear your hair out. our fella gets clipped but never stripped because we love him and we wouldn't do that to him. Anyway, if their hair grows long who says it has to be torn of them - don't get that at all
I believe stripping only removes dead hair so the dog doesn't feel anything. But to keep the hair short, you can just brush him with a steel brush, it works very well and is more enjoyable than stripping :)
@@SpikeyKactus You should check out some of the stripping videos for Irish Terriers. You can tell the dog is uncomfortable by the way his tail is curled under his bum. I brush our chap with a wire brush and trim some of the longer hair. These dogs were originally farm dogs so stripping is some crazy Kennel Club fashion and the above dog is not in his natural state.
Hi! I haven't had a dog for a few years and need a companion as well, I live on the west coast of Ireland, your dog looks very healthy, could you please sell me a pup, I would travel to England or could you give me the contact of someone who would have a nice pup from good parents.
Part of breed character lol mine would challenge only pitbulls,Rottweiler etc.He jumped on my neighbor huge cane corso it was a sight to see him going at that dog
Hi, we're very interested in this breed, but a little concerned by what we've heard of the breed's propensity for barking/yapping? Can anyone confirm or allay our concerns?
James Rice my mum had to settle with the butcher almost every week. A terrible thief and opportunistic rascal. Long live Whiskey the South Liverpool scally
We live in west TX. He loves the weather and will even go out and play in the snow. I keep a coat/sweater for when it gets super cold, though. I don't know if this is characteristic of the breed or not, but he loathes stormy weather.
