    ✅ In This Video
As the saying goes, the house Always Wins! RVing in Vegas was supposed to bring luck.. Well, while sharing another embarrassing RV story, the RV Odd Couple share about Gambling gone wrong in Nevada. Camping at a Casino is a new experience, but those bright lights, flashing machines, and bells ringing got the youngest member of their family into trouble. This is a full-time family story that will bring you a good chuckle.
If you’re considering the RV Lifestyle, you got to take the good with the bad. Some of these experiences might sound ridiculous, but when you RV full time, you never know where the journey will take you. This is a judgement free zone.

What a coincidence, my wife and I were at the casino and saw you leaving, we had a good laugh. After raising 5 children of our own knew exactly what you were going through. We are fulltime Rv'ers and are staying at an RV park in Kingman AZ and frequently visit the casinos in Laughlin. I just happened to stumble upon your channel today. Have a blessed New Year !

Out of three children, two threw wild tantrums. And as an Army wife, (this is many years ago now) my husband was always deployed-so I was essentially on my own. I remember those days like they were yesterday. So while we weren’t RVing- they would often be in a new place, filled with strangers due to a recent move, watching me, some with understanding stares, some not-so-much, just as you showed us. I suffered the “slings and arrows” too, what can you do? You just get through it with the Grace of God and His strength. How kind of you to share your struggle. No less being escorted with security. I laughed until tears came to my eyes. But that is how you roll and I thank you for that. Still impatiently waiting for delivery of our Jayco Greyhawk Prestige now predicted for March/April 2021. Hope to find you in person at a meet up someday in the future when we do have our rig. In the meantime- thank you for your realness in putting it out there and may you have a blessed, safe Merry Christmas & New Year.

Mom told me about my oldest niece one day coming in from playing in the backyard (as told to her by my sister). She was 3 at the time. She got a Dixie cup, went to the fridge, and put an ice cube in it. Then, got a beer from the fridge and poured it into the cup! 😂 Her mother stopped her, and said "No way". My niece responded "Well Daddy and Papa do it after they work in the yard!" (My dad and her husband did several yard projects at their new house). Well, according to my mom, that ended the post-yard work beers at that house! 😆

LOL I love it, "I need to gamble!" That is the best melt down! Number one rule for autism melt downs, be calm but assertive redirection. If you get upset, they get more upset. A couple of years ago my daughter had a melt down in an office building. She laid down on the floor and yelled and such. I bent down and talked to her. Unfortunately a typical security guard comes over and wants to play twenty questions, thinking they are going to solve a problem. I told them the situation and told them to go away or this will not stop. It seems most people do not understand nor how to interact with autistic children. So don't worry about those stares, just make sure they stay away and mind their own business, otherwise they add to the problem. Remember, as they get older, they get stronger and being able to carry them is not an option.

    • @RVOddCouple

That's a good point. She's strong and we could not imagine trying to control her at 10. YOu're bringing to mind the importance of self care. Because if we don't take care of ourselves, we can't take care of her. Like the oxygen masks in an airplane. Thank you!

Been there. I had mine throw tantrums in parking lots and in the car. I had teachers come up to me and tell me how to handle it. I don't care how many kids they have taught, each child is different particularly with mental health issues.

I actually turn into a “Karen” when I hear someone say some ignorant BS like “if that was my kid I’d give them something to cry about” or “parents these days...” or “what a brat, they need to...” the filter between my brain and my mouth burns down so fast. No one knows the child, the parent, what they e been thru etc. I never really pay attention myself when I hear a kid having a melt down, but it’s like my BS radar picks up the criticisms 🤷🏻‍♀️ now I don’t make a scene, but I will say something like “aww remember those days? EVERYONE staring at you openly judging and they don’t even know what or why it’s happening? I always felt it was pretty rude” as I continue to walk away.

So funny story. My parents used to do junkets - trips to gaming places. I was a big kid , so I was able to stay in the casino and watch. I was about 11 and 5’7” and this was before the camera age.
Well I was watching my parents and the guy said you want to pull slot machine. I said yeah! I pulled it and he hit.... then he wouldn’t let me leave. He told my parents I was his lucky charm. My parents told him I really needed to go to bed. It was a riot. My mom talked about that for years.
Thanks for making me remember that childhood fun time

I remember those days and feel for you. My 3 yr old son had a meltdown in the middle of the mall in Cesars Palace. He was on the floor kicking and screaming and the only thing I could do was stand over him to protect him from being trampled while he wore himself out. I knew if I gave in it would be twice as bad next time. Some people looked at me with empathy and others with disapproval while he threw his tantrum. It seemed like it went on forever, but it was probably less than ten minutes. Parenting is tough! Happy Holidays. ;-)

If the kid is "normal" (not autistic or other issues) several smacks of the open palm on the diapered bottom at the start of a tantrum at home can put an end to this problem, *not* done in anger. I never threw a tantrum as a child because my parents would have worn me out, but I also now have cPTSD. For my own kids, I did as I state above; they never had tantrums with me. With their dad, we might get asked to leave the store because the kids would not behave around him. When it was just me, they behaved beautifully at home, at the store, at a restaurants, at friends' homes, anywhere. I also trained them they could ask once for something. At the grocery store: "Can we have some candy?" My response: "We'll see." It depended if there was enough money. If they asked twice, they didn't get it; if they asked only once and I had the money, I'd get them the candy. Their dad they could wear down with their whining and begging. I've seen kids throw full-fledged tantrums at the store because they wanted candy -- I've been horrified by their behavior. But I don't know if there were other issues involved.

I made this comment just once to another FT RV couple but i want to say it here because i watch your vids so much. My husband and i talked about RVing once he retired. We both have had a lot of medical issues so we thought let’s just get the retirement thing going on and do it! My husband retired Aug 27 2020 after working 35 years in Respiratory Therapy and recently with COVID 19 patients. We were close to being well on our way!
Only 60 days later in October during a CT Scan for a non-related issue, the Radiologist unexpectedly found cancer.
We have decided we will not be traveling but sticking close to family and local treatment. I am writing this because i want to say that if RVing is a dream you need to do for yourselves and your family is well prepared to make this major life decision, DO IT! We don’t know from day to day what life will bring or if you will have another opportunity to do it.

This story made me laugh. Our daughter as a 3 year old would lay down and throw a fit if she did not get her way,.....so this brought back those (fun) memories. As an awful parent, in a small community, I walked away from her and the fit. I was within a few feet but hiding from her.....needless to say a couple of people stopped and started towards her because they did not see a parent with her....I made myself available for them to see, but my daughter was still wailing.....They smiled and walked away. Our daughter after she figured out Mommy was not going to concede to her demands.... jumped up and ran in the direction of the exit. Yep it was scary for me as a mom to allow that to happen but it was a learning moment for our daughter and me. BTW she never threw a fit like that again....well at home but not in public. Yes, we all have to parent each child differently. Yes, we have to experiment with what works best for each family and situation. No she was not traumatized by the (event) she actually does not remember the actual event but she does remember she never wanted to have momma walk away from her. The hiding in the clothes' racks stopped also .....Yep, this was in the 80's so life was looked at differently. Now well the Grands....chuckles!

Every time a concern citizen decided to call police. She still throws the same tantrums like a two year old in an adult body. As usual I get cuffed and she would attack the officers who would then promptly remove the cuffs and helped me gain control. Never a dull moment!!!

We live around the corner from Laughlin, in AZ, full time. I would have been one of the adults fighting to suppress a giggle so your daughter wouldn't see us. Kids are so innocent, but the general public...not so much. My hubby carries 'pocket spiders' (little plastic spiders, bugs, and dinosaurs) for moments like yours. He approaches families with kids having melt downs, and with parental approval, distracts the littles with these trinkets. I have only seen one kiddo stubbornly refuse, but upon passing by the kid quickly craned his neck to see where we went. I wish we had been there to lend a helping hand we are in our 60's, and my hubby does Santa gigs at Christmas for fun. We only had one daughter but my hubby should have been daddy to more - so he is a kid magnet. I am glad you can look back on your adventure with a smile. Thank you for sharing. Maybe we can meet someday.

Had our son who was about the same age (now 17) in a stroller navigating through the games heading to the buffet. He was trying to reach and kick to get to the slots. Back in the late 80's I dated a girl who had a 8 year old brother who was Autistic and when we would play videos games on the large screen TV in the living room he would flip out (very excited) and run right up to the TV's screen about 6 inches away and start stimming by following the objects on the screen so this possibly is why Sage's reaction seemed a bit of an overreaction. And if we'd pull him away from something that he was obsessing over he would throw a fit. God Bless you guys and have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 🎉👍

Being the parents of an autistic child, that meltdown ....... wasn't all that bad, one tactic we have used is explaining to them why they can't do what ever it is ( gambling, going into a certain business) and doing it in a whisper, they can't hear you if they are yelling and most times they stop to listen, then you draw out the explanation for quite a while in whisper, sometimes this class them down enough to proceed, sometimes they forget what they want to do..... Sage is high functioning, you lucked out there. Have a very Merry Christmas......

I’m the mother of four, so I truly understand your situation.
My oldest daughter loved to throw “hissy” fits to get her way (this worked very well on her Grandmother).
However, it didn’t work on me. One day, she decided that she would throw an all out tantrum. Apparently, she forgot that Mom was home.
She was full throttle; laying on the kitchen floor carrying on, crying, screaming and stamping her feet.
I quietly walked across the kitchen, put a little cold water in a glass, and tossed it in her face. I didn’t say a word; I set the glass down in the sink and simply left the kitchen.
She was so stunned 😳 she didn’t know what to do. But she sure stopped throwing tantrums after that!

Hey, Hey! We were just in Laughlin in November. What an adventure with Sage. How funny that she locked on to your ‘you can’t gamble’ statement and went with it. As you said, you will laugh about it. Later.
One good story deserves another, though this one was no where near as harrowing as yours. When our oldest daughter was about two and a half, we were teaching her how to sit quietly in church. I made the silly (in retrospect) statement, ‘Sit still and be quiet or I will spank you.’ Of course, we were sitting on the side of the sanctuary farthest from the exit. About a third of the way through the sermon, when she failed to sit and be as quiet as I thought she should have been, I picked her up and headed for the exit. ‘Daddy! No! don’t hit me’, rang out louder than I would have imagined it could and I proceeded to complete my walk of shame (my face must have been redder than it ever had been) with our protesting daughter and a church full of folks, including the preacher, laughing merrily! I was furious until we got out of the sanctuary and the farther we walked the harder I was trying to keep from laughing. She didn’t get much of a spanking.

good one. Our young son would not behave in church after several reminders. So I took him outside in the garden area. I was not happy with his behavior and did not realize how enclosed the area really was. I gave him a swat and he screamed louder. It echoed, echoed echoed back into the sanctuary. echoed I tell ya.

    Dear John, Mercedes and Sage,
Enjoy your well deserved time off. Very WELL deserved. Have a very Merry Christmas.m and New Year if you will take that special day off too. Say prayers for a better year in 2011.
I understand the frustration of going to Vegas with a child.
Mine was 17 and we took a birthday trip to Vegas where she was not allowed to walk near the machines. We went to Circus Circus and there was an area for “kids”. We spent the night in Vegas then headed to San Diego for zoo and aquarium time.
We tried to go to the beach but dogs weren’t allowed. We tried to grab a bite to eat but dogs weren’t allowed, even in outdoor seating areas of restaurants. She was a toy poodle in a carrier for gosh sake! When went to the aquarium and zoo we decided to board her for the rest of our trip. We were able to compare Mexican food down town and eventually able to walk on the beach. She said she was the only one of 3 daughters who had never been out of the country with me so we walked to Tijuana, went through he turnstile and back out again. I said, well now you have been out of the country with me. 😂😂
That was when gas prices were starting to go above $1.99 (the first time) and I refused to pay that. We got through Phoenix and decided we had to get gas so, biting my lip, paid the 2.06, or whatever it was! She wanted to drive so I turned the keys over to her and she got her first speeding ticket going through Flagstaff. There was usually a speed trap headed E from 17 onto 40 and I forgot to warn her. Anyhow, that was a memorable trip for us. She is now 37 and we still have laughs over that ticket and mini vacation.
I always have to share my goofy stories to make you laugh, and relive fond memories from the past.
For the second year I will be spending it with my dog. This year I am looking for a food kitchen to help out for the day. We did that when the girls were young. They were surprised when some people came up to me to thank me for caring for them when they or a loved one were in the hospital having a baby. That’s what I did and loved for 30+ years.
Stay safe for the season. I hope you have some very special time. Whether it is a flight home to be with family and friends, or spending time with your traveling family of friends.
    Susan and Camo

Merry Christmas to both of you! When I was 30 years old, I went on a one-week trip from Colorado to yellowstone. I extended it week by week until I was on the road for 3 months. I lived out of the back of my car using a timberline pup tent. Things were different back then, and you could camp just about anywhere, including at the lawn of a city hall in a small City, and the police protected you there. You just had to be gone by 8:00 a.m.
Now I am 60 years old, and will be trading in my Ford F-150 with camper shell for a Ford Transit that I can use to stealth camp all around the country. Best thing about a Transit is that if anyone is bothering you, you don't have to get out of the vehicle in order to start it up and drive away. It will be loaded with security features. As a 40-year veteran engineer, I should be able to design the inside and the security system myself.
You two have been inspirational this year as I am in the process of selling and giving away 60 years of collecting junk and am preparing to relive my traveling days and even more!
Have a great Christmas, and God bless you. Love you both!

So Keep Praying, Keep Loving and Keep Smiling and always remember God will give his biggest battles to his strongest angels, including human angels. So when the mountain seems too much at any moment...smile, surrender to peace and ask the mountain to move please and thank you. lol. hahah no wonder my daughter is so polite, well mannered and kind. Thank you for the encouragement. Most parents are encouraging us. one percent has to judge... but the solidarity and understanding means a lot to us. Merry Christmas & Happy New year!

Okay now, y’all had us cracking up with what your little baby doll was saying! Believe me I doubt if anyone was judging you, especially anyone who has had children. My kids used to embarrass me so much by some of the wacky things they would say. But there were many times when they made me quite proud too. Don’t forget to film and cherish though moments too.😊

Yes, casinos are very sensitive about minors being on the premises because their gambling licenses and alcohol licenses could be in jeopardy if the authorities state commissions are alerted. Everything is on video, so they get nervous. I don't gamble either, but they stare you down just for looking in if you don't look old enough. That was a long time ago in Atlantic City, NJ.
Just be glad you didn't win big because, you know, THEY don't like to lose money.
Now besides the birds and the bees, you'll have to explain gambling to Sage.
    😉😉😉
Merry Christmas! Happy and safe traveling in 2021!

Not only is it ridiculous... It was planned out FOR YEARS.
Somewhere along the line, folks just lost their natural power of Critical Thinking.
Truly.... We'll never be the same again.

You two are a hoot!! Love this story, laughed so hard I almost wet my pants. That video is priceless but also feel your pain. This will become a story your great grandkids will tell about Grandma Sage. My family has stories from trips that have survived generations of telling. These are priceless so cherish them.

This is so funny we have a similar story! We had to stop to sleep one night and we stopped in a casino in our area to sleep in the parking lot in the RV! We were hungry..... it was the flashing arcade that killed us! Not the casino games.. they were interested but they're a little older than Sage so they understood it was for grown-ups. But.. the arcade was not LOL you poor thing I totally understand and I would have laughed my ass off if I saw you guys with the little one dragging behind yelling I need to gamble! Hysterical!! Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Last day of pre-school 1969, I thought I was already out, and I was geared up to go on a picnic with our neighbors across the street. But I learned that I actually had one more day (that day) to go. 5 year old me didn't take the news very well. I threw a screaming crying fit and ran to my room shouting "I don't wanna go to school!" 30 seconds later, Dad stormed in and whooped me good! He also read me the riot act. But I survived the last day, and had a good time at the picnic later.
