@@rebeccacarlson9166 Great video. I've skirmishes with drunks, I've been blamed for dog poop when I have 1000 bags, had rvers kids next to me hang out in my spot. Was shunned at one site when I called the cops when I saw a guy beat the hell out of his Golden. SMH. I could write a book. But rolling a ball in front of a vehicle could cause them to swerve and hit someone or something. And yes, someone took my ladder last week and told me a day later. I barely know him Again, SMH, lol.
I was parked in a very spacious campground... lots of open space to walk a dog. I looked out the window & saw this man walking his dog directly, intentionally toward my coach. He allowed the dog to raise his leg & pee on my car's tire. I watched to see which coach was his. Later that night I responded in kind... even though I don't have a dog.
RV Odd Couple Yes Loyal....forgiving...flexible and go with the flow....they don’t ask for much in return...a little food water and shelter....amazing.
Evelyn Chapel They usually are Evelyn...One Grandad I hardly knew (but a lot was passed down to me from relatives)......the other Grandad I was able to spend a lot of time with marvelling how thy know and can do so much!, In later years I travelled a lot and should have spent more time with him. I travel on my Harley-Davidson Motorcycle. We were staying at a KOA and we were leaving at 4am in the morning. We actually pushed the touring bikes out to the road and once we started them up we were in gear and out of there and not revving the engines as we were leaving. Just being courteous to those around us.
The majority of your “you might be a jerk” reasons come down to two simple things COMMON SENSE and COMMON COURTESY! Sadly, many people these days just do not and or will not use them.
Keep your slide-outs within the boundaries of your RV space. I had a guy pull in beside us who felt that he was entitled to all of his RV space plus 3 feet of my space. If you want 2 spaces, then pay for 2 spaces. I told management and they made him move over 3 feet.
This is a great one to add to the list. You don't get to infringe on your neighbors "Air Space." And sometimes it's tricky because you want to be on one side to get as much of the camping side as possible, but you need to account for the slides!
Really? I heartily dislike "friendly" people. The kind that runs over before your jacks are down and start playing "20 Questions". Snooping around. Over-sharing. Trying to extract personal information. It's all I can do to keep from picking up a jack handle and beating them into a pulp. Go away!

When a family strung up a hammock on our site, near the back of our camper, (5ft) my husband used it, and fell asleep. They came back, saw him, and took it down. They were nice people, and they said they needed to move to a different site with trees. I was nervous for my husband.....but I did buy him a hammock on a frame, because he really liked it. 😉 I would feel funny being that close to someone's site, but they said it was for their kids to use. We are empty nesters, and we found that to be funny!🙄
That's so funny! The hammock must have been for community use since it wasn't up in their site. Your husband says to himself, "well don't mind if I do" and just takes a nap! That's Epic!

Live and Learn indeed. We are not perfect either. And with a baby, we get loud too. But most people such as yourself have manners and are considerate. There's a small percentage that truly doesn't care. But you my friend, are not in that category!
Your story is similar to experiences that I have had which drove me to quit RVing for ten years. I finally took it up again with the determination to seek out dispersed camping with the expressed intent to avoid fellow campers. It sounds anti social but my camping times are pure rest and relaxation.
Yup pretty much nailed it. I've owned two campgrounds over the last 30 years and imagine dealing with all these problems every week. This is why the average campground owner lasts 4 years. I'm always excited to open the campground every year but I'm also equally excited come the end of camping season to close the campground and go sit in the woods by myself and just watch wild animals that don't need me to remind them how to behave. That being said the vast majority of campers are great but there are always the few that need training on a constant basis.

Guess we really angered the people that don't read the packets? I don't know. But thank you for watching and please don't hesitate to leave us newbies feedback.
@Jess: Oh no, really? I thought truck drivers were the knights in shining armor of the highways. Sorry to hear that. I was helped several times on the road by big rig drivers who stopped to help me. Of course that was back in the late 70s. Maybe the times have changed on the road too.
@@nolanb7150 Most good park managers will move you to another available spot if you are reasonable. Most travelers I've found are polite and happy unless you are in a place where you want to stay away from or avoid and the hosts are jerks.
We actually set out orange cones to create a "property line" and have foldable "caution children at play" signs we set out by the drive path. Seems to make a difference. And others compliment the idea and have decided to do this also. But no matter where you go....sometimes you just can't fix "stupid"😂

Pfsif we have a dachshund, they bark at absolutely everything. When we take him camping we put a bark collar on him. Only takes 1 or 2 shocks to get him to stop barking. We hate having to do it, but don’t want to be hated by everyone.
I really liked this video, bec you stress some very valid points! I usually find the RV Community, a very easy going/chill/understanding Community! But in todays climate of negativity, coupled with the increase of ppl getting into RVing, more things can go “sideways” with vacationing! Cheers to your Family! 👌👍✌🏻😎
Exactly! Excellent List! Campground rules are made for a reason. We had our small dog on a leash but someone was letting their Boxer run free and he came and attacked our small dog. We almost lost her because of her injuries. People need to realize that they are not the only ones in the campground.
That,s where and when a spray bottle with ammonia comes in handy. Animals don't like ammonia sprayed in their faces and it's something that wont injure or kill anything.
YES to all of that. I'd like to add. BARKING dogs, all day long! I have 2 dogs and keep them quiet. Drives me nuts when all you hear is a dog barking. We've been that person who has pulled into a camp spot at 11pm. We felt so awful about it. Didnt have much of a choice, we had a bad day traveling. To make things worse, the site was wonky and we had such a hard time backing it in. Took us like 30 minutes. We didnt unhook or take anything out. We went to bed. Next morning we apologized profusely to our neighbor. They completely understand and we remain friends today. Thank you for the great video.
I feel bad when dogs are barking too. Poor things. We understand that no one strives to set up late. No one says, "lets set up in the dark- woohoo!" That was really kind of you to talk to the neighbor the next day.
How about those that come over at 6:30 am to talk on their phone right by your open window!!!!!! My husband wouldn't let me sqirt them with the sink sprayer. Oh I sooo wanted to soak them good.

@@Evermore2017 What you're talking about is called boondocking. And yes, RV's are fully self contained and many people use them to boondock in unimproved camping situations where there are no water, shore power or sewer hookups. But, there are many RV parks across the country where you can pay to reserve a space for your RV that has shore power, water, and sometimes even sewer and cable TV hookups. That way you're not having to drain and recharge your RV batteries and run a generator and ration your onboard water supply etc. Some people enjoy alternating between boondocking and full amenity camping.
Just to let you know about the dogs in Arley Alabama, we never heard you complain about dog poop. Sorry that that happened. We let them be the camp dogs, outside most of the day to see if their owners would come for them. So we didn’t always watch what they were doing, where they were going. Also, we weren’t truely sure we were keeping the dogs until the day after Christmas. We had taken them to a couple shelters to drop them off while we were in Arley, but never felt like it was the right thing. And we do still have them. They are great dogs.

YES! Park somewhere else. My wife and I were the only campers in a 40 site mountain campground one October when a family in an RV pulled into the site right beside us. My wife was actually so upset that she shouted for them to move. They actually did move...one more spot over. The day before when we pulled in, there was one other camper. To be courteous, and because we were there to get away from neighbors, we picked a spot on the opposite side of the campground. Another time we were at a lake and parked our travel trailer in a location where no one else could possibly camp next to us. Or so we thought. We went for a short drive and came back to two families in tents parked right beside us. Their kids and dogs kept running through our area. They even asked to use our kayaks. We remained friendly and even helped air up their mattresses with our powered inflator, but we just couldn't believe the lack of respect for our privacy and our things.
Those rules pretty much apply to life in general!!! You’d be amazed at how many jerks You can find just because they are not considerate of others!!! I love watching y’all!!! I love that you keep it real!!! 😁😁
Completely agree with you about eticate in campground! I live in an apartment complex and most of these would be true here too! Sigh....it's a "dog friendly" complex and poop is everywhere! So annoying and dogs off leash too, my dog is shy and doesn't appreciate dogs rushing up to her! Ugh, wish everyone had your common sense!
We are usually asleep by 10 pm. Dont drink, are quiet people. My husband is the type that will let people go on and on and wouldn't be the one to approach. Me on the other hand, I dont deal with lots of loud noise, now I deal with it all day. I dont expect people to be quiet. But if your next to us and being loud at midnight...oh I'm gonna be hell on earth. I need to learn to let it go some. But I back up my attitude. Thankfully my husband can keep me grounded. I went to a park and found a campsite. We were litterally the only ones in the park. Hrs later a couple of women parked right next to us with their tiny tent. The headlamps they wore were so annoying. But after being told that they probably felt safer near us made me not confront them.
I lived in SE Asia for many years where I learnt that one never wears one's outdoor shoes indoors..... I mean you invested many 1000s of bucks how difficult is it to flip off your outdoor shoes on entering ones RV avoiding trailing the crap from outside
Camp ground owner once told me this.... I am the mayor and have to keep the piece between everyone..... "When ever there is a fight, both campers have to leave..... I DON'T CARE!!" With that said, I agree with everything you said...... and I am glad you had the support of the camp management. Besides, this could be the same guy 6 months from now, that you have to move next to ;). Small world and life's too short....enjoy.... 30amps could work (W/out air) until you get this all straightened out with the guy at the office??? Dog Shit happens.... Flush it.... Flip flops/shoes off at the door.... Think of all the 'OTHER STUFF' your tracking into your home you can't see and/or smell! It just helps to keep your home cleaner.
Besides being the right thing to do, be nice to everyone because you may find you need their help one day and they may not be willing if you've been a jerk.
Many years ago my girlfriend and I were traveling extensively throughout North America in my VW camper van. On one occasion we pulled into a campground in a National Park around 9 a.m. There were plenty of camp spaces available. It was self check in so we marked our space # along with our vehicle license plate number, and inserted the fee in the envelope provided. We then passed the envelope through the mail slot at the ranger office as instructed. We marked our territory by placing a large table cloth on the picnic table, anchoring it in place with clips we bought for that purpose. We also placed a beach towel on the table and held it down with a large rock. We then left for the day to explore the Park. We had used this method for laying claim before without any problems. Around dinner time we returned to find our campsite occupied with 4 college age young people. There were also members of their party now occupying the 2 sites on either side of our site. All 3 sites were empty when we first arrived earlier that day. They had set up their tent and our table cloth and towel were nowhere to be seen. I explained to them that this was our site and asked them if they didn't see the tablecloth or towel we left to mark it. They claimed there were none of those items there when they arrived. (no surprise to hear that) My girlfriend and I then proceeded to the ranger station and pleaded our case. The rangers checked and confirmed that we had followed proper procedure and there was a record of our claim but nothing for the "squatters" currently in our camp site. The ranger accompanied us back to our site and told the young people they had to move. By this time of day there were no campsites left available. They had no place to go. Despite what we knew they had done we took pity on them. We told the ranger that since we were planning to sleep in the van anyway, if it was all right with the ranger my girlfriend and I were OK with letting the people stay. The ranger allowed it. I think those young people felt guilty for what they did. They thanked us profusely for letting them stay and gave us some apples. After dark everyone sat around the campfire and we entertained them with stories of our travels. As you said, sometimes it's all in how you handle the situation.
I rented a little cabin in a campground once! I never had such a negative experience, Dogs barking, kids screaming, people packed in tight, I thought this is Nature? This sucks, I felt like I was in the city and not a good section of the city either. Never did it again!
Please don't let that deter you. Every campground is different. Some are more "urban" and others are more remote. Unfortunately you can't tell until you visit.
I've been a tent camper for years. We were at a completely empty 40 site campground around a lake arriving a Tuesday. The next afternoon a camper shows up and pitched their tent "RIGHT NEXT TO US!" Unbelievable! There were 39 other sites to pick and they camped right next to us. Then they stayed up til 1am talking and laughing around their campfire. It was so inconsiderate. I hate camping around people and never camp on Friday or Saturday nights. They are the worst! Great channel guys!!!
That's so annoying. Especially because tent's aren't great sound proof. That was very inconsiderate. And we agree, camping or RVing Friday/Saturday is very different then Monday-Thursday! :-)
I once stayed in a rv park by newport harbor boy what beautiful views of the harbor and the bridge over the harbor. I never thought that this might be a good park for fisherman, about midnight two rvs pulled in on either side of us. apparently they knew each other and they hollered two each other over and around our trailer for 40 minutes while they set up. and yes fisherman get up around 4 am and holler back and forth between their trailers while there diesel pickups idle for another 40 minutes. I have learned my lesson about beautiful little harbors.
We always stay at state parks or private resort parks. There is a mom and pop park in Mississippi we stay. She allows people to lease spots, basically live there like a trailer park. We stay there one night only usually don't even unhook. Just plug in the electric 50amp. 2 years ago a shady looking guy that lived there was too interested in the contents in the bed of my truck. I asked him what he was doing and he started yelling at me. Not even sure what he said. About 3 years ago at a park in Florida a guy in a high end class A "borrowed" a water Y valve out of my hose box, the box I keep fresh water hoses. I saw him snooping around and then a few minutes later he was washing the front of his rig. Which is against the rules at that park. I checked my box and the Y valve and my sprayer were both missing. I asked him if he was using my stuff and he paused just long enough for it to get awkward. Then he laughed and said he had knocked on our door to asked if he could borrow it, which he didn't. I would hope that he was planning on returning it. He did and thanked me. I too have stepped in dog poop. We always pick up after ours. I have forgotten a bag before and marked her poop with a stick and go back and pick it up. Just a few months ago at a state park in Alabama a guy walking his dog which was as big as a pony let his dog poop right in the park road. I went out when I realized he wasn't picking it up and yelled at him. He just mumbled something back at me. Before I could get out to pick it up myself a car drove over it. Thanks for your vlog!

The worst jerk we’ve come across was a guy who was all set up in his spot when we parked in ours, and although I’m certain that he checked and saw his RV fit the spot, but when he was parking, he didn’t account for his slide outs, so their slide outs were fully hanging in our area. We reported this to the front office to deal with, but the guy was gone all day long, so our first day there, we were cramped and pissed off. When he finally came back and the ranger addressed the situation with him and told him he’d have to repark and allow for the slide outs within his space, he said, “Come on, dude! I’m all squared away here! Please tell me you’re not going to make me unhook and go thru all of that because of 3 feet!”. The Ranger responded, “Look, it’s your responsibility to make sure that your rig and all slideouts are fully within your allotted space. Now, you’ve already inconvenienced your neighbors enough today by being rude and inconsiderate, and I’m not arguing with you. Your options are either to unhook and reposition or unhook and leave. Your choice, and you’ve exactly 1 hour to make the adjustment, and I’ll be coming back to check, and if it’s not, I’m calling the police and they’ll arrest you like they did the last person who didn’t obey the rules of a State Park and impound your rig. The clock starts now.”. The guy repositioned, and although he never apologized, the rest of the time next to him, he was extremely pleasant and cordial. Hopefully, the guy learned a good lesson from it that he needed to learn. Some folks just can’t say, “I’m sorry.”.🤷🏼♀️

sometimes arriving late or after dark can't be avoided, its probably not when they wanted to arrive either. Instead of getting angry hop over with your flash light and offer to give them a hand and suggest a quick set up so they can settle down and get some rest.
Robert Iams That’s true, and we are the first to offer to help out a neighbor set-up. We just ask them to be as quiet as possible so as to not wake up our baby during quiet hours. When we pull in late we wait until the next morning to set-up. But we agree. Long travel days are the worst!
Thanks for reminding me of so many of the reasons I avoid RV campgrounds. You are not “enjoying nature” if you are staying in the middle of a town on wheels. I don’t see how that can be relaxing.
Honestly, it wasn't the guys fault that they put him in that spot. I agree that when you went in you should have parked in the 50amp spot. The park is responsible for putting both of you in the position they did.
My park is packed so tight, some slide outs are nearly touching eachother. I'm on the end, so I dont have a neighbor on that side, but there is a small patch of grass that is an unofficial dog poop area. There are area with bags provided, 20 yards away, but they can't be bothered and they don't pick it up. I ask the management if they can put a poop can and bags, since everyone uses it. They didn't so I bought a bucket and a poop scoop. That helped somewhat, but I stopped emptying the bucket. Not my job. I can't open a window on that side, so I am going to take away the bucket and let poop fill the area. The maintenance guys have to mow there. They will have to clean it , walk in shit, or provide bags. Everyone knows that is the one major responsiblity of dog ownership. AND when I moved in the rule was no dogs over 30 lbs (mine is twenty) but the place is now full of viscious pit bulls and other large dogs. I dont feel safe walking around the park,so In have to drive somewhere just so my dog can pee. Its does piss me off, but its the way it is, and nothing will be done. I pay over 1k a month. Thanks for letting me vent. It help keep resentments down.
Great points! We’ve been lucky enough to have not experienced any “jerks” . Kindness and treating others as you would like to be treated go a long way. We’re all camping to enjoy the outdoors, meet new people and relax. And you’re right you never know what has transpired in the time leading up to someone who has a “lack in judgement “ moment. Apologies and a handshake can diffuse a bad introduction.
Number 3 is a particular pet peeve for me. Here in the part of NY state I'm in, quiet time isn't until 11pm. It's crazy! Everyone knows people push it for at least an additional 30 minutes. What's wrong with the standard 10pm?
"Good fences make great neighbors." Robert Frost. I saw the post about orange safety cones and it reminded me of something I saw a lot of in European rv parks. People love to put out the tiny 8"-12" tall lightweight plastic white picket fencing along the edge of their space. Its attractive and friendly looking while at the same time marking out the boundary of your space. I like to keep the orange cones as a warning to stay away from something that is a potential hazard. As to noisy stereo and tv, if I ever get an rv that has tv or stereo, I plan to invest in wireless headphones so I can listen as loud as I want/need (lets face it, our hearing tends to get worse as we get older) without bothering the neighbors.
People who fire up their generator when all else is quiet or the guy who wants to go fishing very early in the morning and fires up his old loud PU and lets it idle for 10 minutes before he takes off. (We used to own a small "Good Sam" RV park many years ago and we saw it all).
I was in a truck stop refueling no other trucks on the other pumps. One thirty in the morning. A driver comes in and pulls up to the pump I used and pulled up to the yellow line to pay out and do my log book. He has a truck that you have to pull past the pumps and add fuel from the back of your sleeper. So he didn’t have enough room to pull past the pump. Now I am at the point where I was supposed to be after fueling. He comes up with his tire checker w/metal on the one end and hits my brand new 379 long nose peterbuilt . I opened my door and he yells. Pull up blanked blank. I come out of my truck with a payback on my mind God forgive me and being a flat bedder grab my brake bar which is all metal and a whole lot heavier than his tire checker. He takes off running around his truck as I try to catch him and he runs in the truck stop. The truck stop calls the sheriffs office and in five minutes after I was in my truck waiting for the tire checker to come out and get his insurance information to have my door repainted. The sherif asked what’s my problem. I show him what the driver did to my truck and showed him I was a foot over the line where I am supposed to be doing my log book when this crazy driver comes in with all the empty pumps and starts beating on my door calling me dirty words. So I get my bar Incase he wants to hit me with his tire knocker. Just to get his attention and he runs inside. The sharp edge of his tire metal checker chipped four big gashes in my brand new truck door. The sherif went in and the driver still had his tire checker in his hand and the sherif made him come out and give me his insurance information and arrested him for assaulting me by hitting my truck door damaging it. He made a bad choice for sure calling The sheriffs office. I am grateful I didn’t catch up to him before he got to the truck stop cashier.
the 1st one is like going in the men's bathroom when there are 25 urinals and the jerk has to walk all the way down to where you are and start a conversation.😂😂😂
Happy to have found this channel. I'm helping my elder mom set up her 5th wheel for the season, it is year round at a private site for many years. I was surprised at how from inside her trailer she has to close the windows because the unit is starting to smell like the cigarette smoke of her new neighbors. The quit hours are not enforced and there are three different types of music being heard. On weekends in the summer people act as if they are at a party, drunken/swearing on the street/river, transport bus. I no longer consider it relaxing to even visit her there and for the first time she has mentioned moving to another location or selling her 5th wheel...because of the people. Noise that goes outside of your space be it camping, sticks/bricks, vehicle/car/motorcycle is just inconsiderate. Etiquette needs to be addressed more often.
We totally agree with you about protection and proper etiquette.. Remember we gave you cookies and introduced ourselves but you had just came in and we left the next morning.... Great job getting the safety word out, and us RVrs need to stick together and be polite to one another 😉

This is probably the best advice for most of You! Not trying to be mean, but some of you sound like an "older" age group perhaps and enjoy the quiet more. I like going to campgrounds where people are having a good time! I've met alot of fun people and have ended up doing alot of fun activities away from our campsites with them and their families on our camping vac! You guys need to remember, at alot of these camp grounds, it's people on THEIR vacation! Not full timers! We are looking to get away from our busy lives and have a good time! Also, don't camp at vacation spots!? Remember, you chose this life style! You chose to live in what the vast majority use to take vacations with! I agree with most of your Jerk points! But you just have to realize where your at and understand it comes with it!
I also hate it when I go to an empty restaurant and the only other people that come in have to sit right next to you being loud. And who thinks it is ok to start blowing your nose at the table go to the restroom to do that. I carry fart spray now if they blow i blow. lol

Over Thanksgiving we had made reservations for 3 nights at a nearby lake's campgrounds. We made the reservations in July had no clue in July it was going to be raining for most of that weekend in November. So we went ahead and kept our reservation and got rained on the entire weekend. Those are the days you need the TV in the RV, we couldn't really go for walks or sit outside the wind was blowing the awning bad and had to retract it. Played cards with my wife for a while listened to some music, read a book, still glad we had some movies to enjoy.
You bring up a good point. A lot of people think they'll be outside all the time when RVing. There are plenty of times that weather forces you to be inside. When that happens, comfort is really important!
The lots are just toooo tight. Same issues for stick/brick houses. When you make developments with .10 acre lots problems will occur. People need space.
So true about poops - I even had to repeat to my husbands father to get it picked up whenever he has his dog over on lawn, we have had neighbors kids & runners running by the grass, they won’t see poop there plus it can hurt the lawn! It’s all common knowledge no brainer to do this if using other persons property. For speeding, not only for reason of toddlers and children, it also applies to deaf people and handicap who can’t just jump out of the way in a whim and all campgrounds don’t have sign that tells walkers to stay on its side, it’s not a public road for crying out loud! All campers are so close to the road, all roads there shud be considered as private land to walk thru, it’s not designed for nascar or for multiple cars! Very smart to warn others by throwing a soft ball across to alert them! They need to wake up! I high five u for that!
You (Mr.) are a lot like me, we have a short fuse, we need to have it under control, recognizing it is the first step to control it. You guys look like great people.
Nice list of Jerk offenses. I think one of the keys is after you have driven all day, you are tired, just know that you might not be sunshine to the campground staffs and neighbors. Just setup and relax and enjoy the campground. We often are our jerkiness mostly in the evening and we are tired. Resting and a cup of coffee in the morning will bring perspective.

@@RVOddCouple Yes some are better then others. I have a camper and have been in parks before. I am sure if like me, most of the parks were just a place to stay near by for day trips. I camped in a resort park where a lot owner did not like that the office rented a spot to me. My camper was not as new or expensive as his. I am sure it met the requirements of the resort. The RV next to me I am sure was older then mine. Also a few spot down a Pop up. On the way to the park I saw a camp ground right on the water in the sand. I am sure I would have been much happier there then on my concrete slab with a old snob.
The best thing you can get or do at campgrounds is friendliness. It can make all the difference. An iffy all-gravel park we stayed at in the middle of a big city turned out to be a great experience because of the nice people.
Great video!! A must learn code of ethics for RVers. Mine is having to listen to loud arguments and fights between the RV owners who either don't know or care that everyone can hear them. Number 1 tho is forced ear kidnapping by loud music or TV. Loud enough that 20 others can hear you, it's too loud!
Well said! All good points to being a good neighbor. We're totally guilty for showing up to a site at 1 am😬 Luckily we had great RV neighbors and became besties with them!
Was at site and decided to was the camper. So I took out the bucket and brush on a pole and wash it just before dinner. Completed job and put stuff by the water hookup to wash out later. Never did. Next morning I wake up to see our neighbor washing his camper with my stuff. My hose as well. I Didnt say anything right then. He put stuff back. Later on I said, “ if you need my barbecue let me know, it needs fuel!” He got the message. I think.
All great points. My two are 1. Why does no one clean up after their dog in the doggie run!!!?! I don't even use them anymore because it's one big toilet 😱 2. Running the diesel a half hour before you are even ready to hook up. Seriously, we have an old diesel and understand that it needs to be warmed up but puhleeeese get everything else done. Then fire up the old girl just before hook up. She will have plenty of time to idle while adjusting the hitch, checking the lights and removing the chocks.
Some people go camping (like myself) to get away from all of the city noise and people. I'm out there to just relax and to decompress. Others see a camping trip like an opportunity to get a big group together to have a good time eating, drinking, and singing. Many years ago while tent camping in a fairly remote area we had a group of young guys around a campfire drunk and making a ton of noise until about 3 am. No campground host or other people. So my girlfriend and I had to just sit inside our tent and deal with the situation. Finally got some sleep but it ruined our entire trip. Problem is the more secluded one is the more vulnerable you are to being helpless if a jerk arrives and wants to mess with you :(
You bring up a great point. Not everyone desires the same thing. RV parks are weird. It's like Camping in set plots of land. There's a spectrum where some people like to be isolated and others like to be more social. I think were moving closer and closer to the isolated line. :-)
As a potential future RVer I'm starting to realize why a lot of RVers like to "boondock" out in the woods by themselves! As an ex-tent camper in my youth I've experienced a lot of "camping jerks" and they're always in plentiful supply!

great video. I agree of with all of it. My beef is when people have dogs on long retractable leashes. Most parks specify 6ft and often these dogs will have enough line to cross into our space and freak out our properly restrained dog. And a dog off leash at anytime is not OK
Great topic guys! I don't think I'm a jerk (too) often, but when I am, I'm really good at it! I like it when neighbors are friendly and welcoming, but one small request that I have is to let your new incoming neighbor at least appear to be in need of help before you jump in and start hooking up their water and power etc. I lost my cool a couple of months back when these extremely nice (sincerely helpful) neighbors jumped right in and started making rv connections... literally. We'd hardly said hello. I'm probably a little (or a lot) too particular (a.k.a. anal) when it comes to set up. And I know they absolutely meant well, but I hadn't even checked to see how close to level I was. Needless to say I ended up losing my cool just a little bit - rude nonetheless- and became only the slightest bit snarky :) and they very politely backed off (whoa Nelly). So then 10 minutes later - after I cooled off - I marched my embarrassed backside over to their coach, knocked on their and apologized profusely! (My momma taught me to be respectful and apologize when warranted! ) So... moral of the story... I know I was a big fat jerk as they say, but hey... they helped me find my inner jerk really easily! In the end we had a great stay next to them and visited with them several times over the course of the week! Good topic guys! I'll go ahead and apologize to the next recipient right now.... sorry dude. Safe travels! bg
I used to get off work at 6PM and home by 6:30 PM. After driving three hours to a decent campsite it would be 9 PM or later. Stealth setup isn't a problem since we upgraded from the popup. I hand crank my stabilizers as the electric motors are noisy. The slideout motor is not an option due to Forest River making it necessary to hand crank the slideout using a socket wrench while lying under the camper. Love the videos!!!
Thank you Bob814u! Things like hand cranking stabilizers are a huge display of courtesy and kindness. We know that late set-ups sometimes can't be avoided. No one says, "Hey let's set up in the dark!- Sounds like fun" But people like you who show common-sense neighborliness, are what it's all about! And we agree, Forest River makes a great product! I remember my first RV campsite fight and it was a doozy. My wife and I were out for a walk with our 2 dogs (both on leashes). One was an 85 lb. Choc. Lab and the other was a 115 lb.Boxer (yes, he was HUGE for a Boxer). There were many people camping with their pets and all were obeying the camp rules by having their pets on leashes...except for one. There was a group camped with their 2 dogs and the dogs were not confined or on leashes...and they attacked our dogs. I am not going to hold restrict my dogs from being able to defend themselves in a fight so we released the leashes do they could defend themselves. To make a long story short, our Boxer, with a little help from the Lab., made short work of the altercation. It lasted less than 1 minute and the end result was one dead dog and one injured. Both were the dogs from the irresponsible campers. Ours were unharmed. And when it was over, they wanted US to pay for their dead dog and their vet bill? Thanks to numerous witnesses, the irresponsible campers were forced to leave the area and banned from that park. Not only that, my Boxer literally became the park hero. Everyone in the park ended up coming to our campsite to see him first hand and he dearly loved the attention. Damn, I miss that old boy. We head to put him down last year (13 yr. old).
@@RVOddCouple You have no idea. The Lab. was beautiful, just like most Chocolate Labs are (We had to put him down 3 yrs. ago), but the Boxer was super special. I am 6'1" and did not have to bend over at all to pet him. He could lay his head on the dining room table. He was white with large fawn spots, one blue eye, and as I said, weighed in at 115 lbs. And yes, he was a registered Boxer. Many mistakenly thought he was an American Bulldog due to his size and coloration. His mamma could almost walk under him. He was people and animal friendly unless I or he was attacked. Then all hell was going to break loose.
Nice video! We've been camping / RV-n for 40+ years (not full timers) and you've hit most of the major items that set me off. For me it appears common sense & civility to be getting worse rather than better. Until the past few years we never made reservations anywhere and never had an issue getting a spot. Campers appeared to be a courteous group of adventurers. Many more people out there now and maybe thats what leads to so many more issues and lack of common sense (?). When we were in a remote State CG off the beaten path, we had a very large loop of spots all to ourselves. Then at ~2:00 a.m. two mini vans with a total of 4 adults & 5 very young kids show up. Out of the 40-50 empty sites they elect to take the ones next to us; remember we are the only ones in the loop. leaving headlights and engines on they proceed to set up tents and dining flies. They talked to each other in rather loud voices as well while setting up. Kids are cranky & some crying. The capper came when they opened and closed their sliding minivan doors for about the 100th time. I finally opened our window and reminded them that it was now 2:20 a.m. and asked how many times do you need to open and slam a door in the middle of the night? They did move the next day thank goodness. And BTW... do you really need an outdoor 40-50" TV with surround sound when you're out in some of these tighter spaces like some Motorhomes are using?
Wow! 40 years rving? You must have some incredible stories. Please don't hesitate to relay some of your experience in the comments. We've had to learn a ton of things the hard way! Your experience sounds similar to ours. There was literally 15 spaces open in our situation. But There's always that 1 person. And you bring up a great point regarding the outdoor tv. We stayed at a provincial park once with no hookups and this one guy a few sites over had a really noisy construction generator running all day long! You had to yell to have a conversation outside, it was awful. We would just go out for the day after that to get away from it. At least he shut it down in the evening.
Yes #3 is my biggest pet pea with RVing and it's mostly with what I call the weekend warriors. These people that buys a new rig that isn't really built for camping it's a 4 or 5 TV stand built to look like a RV and almost all the new RVs are built this way.They set up and first thing they do is crank up there TV or music so everybody at the camp ground knows they're there.

You are so down to earth and I love how you just come right out with the truth about things. My husband and I have both retired now and we have been wanting to start Rving. We thought about selling our property but thought twice about that so we will have a homebase. We live in Charleston, S.C. and love it here but we want to see the world while we can. Wow. How true. Was staying in a first come first serve city park campground last fall in the mountains of Virginia. There were plenty of empty spots but this one happy new class A owner was not happy with what was available. I told him there was a 50 amp hook up on our pedestal and helped him park his newly acquired Class A diesel. My wife and I are very quiet at night and in the mornings. After a nice talk with these folks who offered nothing to us as they grilled steaks and had music blaring they decided to leave out early in the morning. 7 am start up to get the air going. Then a shut down. Then beating and banging to take trash to the curbside pick-up. Then another start up to get ready to pull out. Glad they left. We stayed 3 more nights without intrusion. Worst thing is helping another camper just to be annoyed at them in the end and glad they are gone. Respect folks. That's all we ask. I'm glad you wanted to leave early. But your sunrise start up to build air pressure was a bit annoying considering you were three feet from me sharing a pedestal. Safe travels "Odd Couple." Y'all are awesome.. Share weather info with the 5 person tent campers. Be quiet. We are in the woods for the peace and quiet. Your Cummins start up at sunrise was not only shocking. It was down right disrespectful. Glad you left.
Number 6 (getting in late or leaving early) isn't always under your control. But if you do show up late (or have to leave early) you should try to be as quiet as you can.
You are 100% right. Most people don't choose to set up in the dark. But like you said, we should try to be as quiet as possible. No yelling "back back, stop, to the left" :-)
I agree I work at a campground and people come in off the road very late sometimes and also leave early. As long as they are quiet and considerate this should be fine. And in a lot of sites it's impossible to stay hooked up and be anywhere near level. They paid for their site also. Being understanding and considerate goes a long way.
When we had to arrive late for whatever reason, we would drive straight into a site, not back in, and shut off the engine immediately. If not level, we will shut off the fridge. Do all the backing in and hooking up in the morning. I have had people thank me for it.

Was shunned at one site when I called the cops when I saw a guy beat the hell out of his Golden. SMH. I could write a book. But rolling a ball in front of a vehicle could cause them to swerve and hit someone or something. And yes, someone took my ladder last week and told me a day later. I barely know him Again, SMH, lol.

I was parked in a very spacious campground... lots of open space to walk a dog. I looked out the window & saw this man walking his dog directly, intentionally toward my coach. He allowed the dog to raise his leg & pee on my car's tire. I watched to see which coach was his. Later that night I responded in kind... even though I don't have a dog.

I travel on my Harley-Davidson Motorcycle. We were staying at a KOA and we were leaving at 4am in the morning. We actually pushed the touring bikes out to the road and once we started them up we were in gear and out of there and not revving the engines as we were leaving. Just being courteous to those around us.

Keep your slide-outs within the boundaries of your RV space. I had a guy pull in beside us who felt that he was entitled to all of his RV space plus 3 feet of my space. If you want 2 spaces, then pay for 2 spaces. I told management and they made him move over 3 feet.
This is a great one to add to the list. You don't get to infringe on your neighbors "Air Space." And sometimes it's tricky because you want to be on one side to get as much of the camping side as possible, but you need to account for the slides!
First mistake is to get mad ...control your emotions....no matter situation....

When a family strung up a hammock on our site, near the back of our camper, (5ft) my husband used it, and fell asleep. They came back, saw him, and took it down. They were nice people, and they said they needed to move to a different site with trees. I was nervous for my husband.....but I did buy him a hammock on a frame, because he really liked it. 😉 I would feel funny being that close to someone's site, but they said it was for their kids to use. We are empty nesters, and we found that to be funny!🙄
That's so funny! The hammock must have been for community use since it wasn't up in their site. Your husband says to himself, "well don't mind if I do" and just takes a nap! That's Epic!

Live and Learn indeed. We are not perfect either. And with a baby, we get loud too. But most people such as yourself have manners and are considerate. There's a small percentage that truly doesn't care. But you my friend, are not in that category!
Your story is similar to experiences that I have had which drove me to quit RVing for ten years. I finally took it up again with the determination to seek out dispersed camping with the expressed intent to avoid fellow campers. It sounds anti social but my camping times are pure rest and relaxation.

Yup pretty much nailed it. I've owned two campgrounds over the last 30 years and imagine dealing with all these problems every week. This is why the average campground owner lasts 4 years. I'm always excited to open the campground every year but I'm also equally excited come the end of camping season to close the campground and go sit in the woods by myself and just watch wild animals that don't need me to remind them how to behave. That being said the vast majority of campers are great but there are always the few that need training on a constant basis.

@@nolanb7150 Most good park managers will move you to another available spot if you are reasonable. Most travelers I've found are polite and happy unless you are in a place where you want to stay away from or avoid and the hosts are jerks.
We actually set out orange cones to create a "property line" and have foldable "caution children at play" signs we set out by the drive path. Seems to make a difference. And others compliment the idea and have decided to do this also. But no matter where you go....sometimes you just can't fix "stupid"😂

I avoid parks period. Boondocking... Get far away. Of course I'm in the West.
Boondocking sounds like fun. We haven't tried it yet but this experience is pushing us in that direction.

RV walls are not soundproof! Add that to the list!
Pfsif we have a dachshund, they bark at absolutely everything. When we take him camping we put a bark collar on him. Only takes 1 or 2 shocks to get him to stop barking. We hate having to do it, but don’t want to be hated by everyone.
The place we are in has a section just for dog people, very nice.
Same rule as a stick and mortar house...BRING YOUR DOG IN AT NITE AND DONT ALLOW THEM TO BARK more than 3 times.
The worst violation of all, people think other people enjoy their barking dog.
I really liked this video, bec you stress some very valid points! I usually find the RV Community, a very easy going/chill/understanding Community! Exactly! Excellent List! Campground rules are made for a reason. We had our small dog on a leash but someone was letting their Boxer run free and he came and attacked our small dog. We almost lost her because of her injuries. People need to realize that they are not the only ones in the campground.

That,s where and when a spray bottle with ammonia comes in handy. Animals don't like ammonia sprayed in their faces and it's something that wont injure or kill anything.

YES to all of that. I'd like to add. BARKING dogs, all day long! I have 2 dogs and keep them quiet. Drives me nuts when all you hear is a dog barking.
We've been that person who has pulled into a camp spot at 11pm. We felt so awful about it. Didnt have much of a choice, we had a bad day traveling. To make things worse, the site was wonky and we had such a hard time backing it in. Took us like 30 minutes. We didnt unhook or take anything out. We went to bed. Next morning we apologized profusely to our neighbor. They completely understand and we remain friends today. Thank you for the great video.

@@Evermore2017 What you're talking about is called boondocking. And yes, RV's are fully self contained and many people use them to boondock in unimproved camping situations where there are no water, shore power or sewer hookups. But, there are many RV parks across the country where you can pay to reserve a space for your RV that has shore power, water, and sometimes even sewer and cable TV hookups. That way you're not having to drain and recharge your RV batteries and run a generator and ration your onboard water supply etc. Some people enjoy alternating between boondocking and full amenity camping.
Just to let you know about the dogs in Arley Alabama, we never heard you complain about dog poop. Sorry that that happened. We let them be the camp dogs, outside most of the day to see if their owners would come for them. So we didn’t always watch what they were doing, where they were going.
Also, we weren’t truely sure we were keeping the dogs until the day after Christmas. We had taken them to a couple shelters to drop them off while we were in Arley, but never felt like it was the right thing. And we do still have them. They are great dogs.

YES! Park somewhere else. My wife and I were the only campers in a 40 site mountain campground one October when a family in an RV pulled into the site right beside us. My wife was actually so upset that she shouted for them to move. They actually did move...one more spot over.
The day before when we pulled in, there was one other camper. To be courteous, and because we were there to get away from neighbors, we picked a spot on the opposite side of the campground.
Another time we were at a lake and parked our travel trailer in a location where no one else could possibly camp next to us. Or so we thought. We went for a short drive and came back to two families in tents parked right beside us. Their kids and dogs kept running through our area. They even asked to use our kayaks. We remained friendly and even helped air up their mattresses with our powered inflator, but we just couldn't believe the lack of respect for our privacy and our things.

Completely agree with you about eticate in campground! I live in an apartment complex and most of these would be true here too! Sigh....it's a "dog friendly" complex and poop is everywhere! So annoying and dogs off leash too, my dog is shy and doesn't appreciate dogs rushing up to her! Ugh, wish everyone had your common sense!

We are usually asleep by 10 pm. Dont drink, are quiet people. My husband is the type that will let people go on and on and wouldn't be the one to approach. Me on the other hand, I dont deal with lots of loud noise, now I deal with it all day. I dont expect people to be quiet. But if your next to us and being loud at midnight...oh I'm gonna be hell on earth. I need to learn to let it go some. But I back up my attitude. Thankfully my husband can keep me grounded. I went to a park and found a campsite. We were litterally the only ones in the park. Hrs later a couple of women parked right next to us with their tiny tent. The headlamps they wore were so annoying. But after being told that they probably felt safer near us made me not confront them.

I think that's probably the biggest and number one reason people do that for, just for security reasons.

I lived in SE Asia for many years where I learnt that one never wears one's outdoor shoes indoors..... I mean you invested many 1000s of bucks how difficult is it to flip off your outdoor shoes on entering ones RV avoiding trailing the crap from outside

It’s difficult to do when you have to wear custom made orthopaedic foot ware. It can’t always just be kicked off upon entry.
Camp ground owner once told me this.... I am the mayor and have to keep the piece between everyone..... "When ever there is a fight, both campers have to leave..... I DON'T CARE!!" With that said, I agree with everything you said...... and I am glad you had the support of the camp management. Besides, this could be the same guy 6 months from now, that you have to move next to ;). Small world and life's too short....enjoy.... 30amps could work (W/out air) until you get this all straightened out with the guy at the office??? Dog Shit happens.... Flush it.... Flip flops/shoes off at the door.... Think of all the 'OTHER STUFF' your tracking into your home you can't see and/or smell! It just helps to keep your home cleaner.

Many years ago my girlfriend and I were traveling extensively throughout North America in my VW camper van. On one occasion we pulled into a campground in a National Park around 9 a.m. There were plenty of camp spaces available. It was self check in so we marked our space # along with our vehicle license plate number, and inserted the fee in the envelope provided. We then passed the envelope through the mail slot at the ranger office as instructed. We marked our territory by placing a large table cloth on the picnic table, anchoring it in place with clips we bought for that purpose. We also placed a beach towel on the table and held it down with a large rock. We then left for the day to explore the Park. We had used this method for laying claim before without any problems. Around dinner time we returned to find our campsite occupied with 4 college age young people. There were also members of their party now occupying the 2 sites on either side of our site. All 3 sites were empty when we first arrived earlier that day. They had set up their tent and our table cloth and towel were nowhere to be seen. I explained to them that this was our site and asked them if they didn't see the tablecloth or towel we left to mark it. They claimed there were none of those items there when they arrived. (no surprise to hear that) My girlfriend and I then proceeded to the ranger station and pleaded our case. The rangers checked and confirmed that we had followed proper procedure and there was a record of our claim but nothing for the "squatters" currently in our camp site. The ranger accompanied us back to our site and told the young people they had to move. By this time of day there were no campsites left available. They had no place to go. Despite what we knew they had done we took pity on them. We told the ranger that since we were planning to sleep in the van anyway, if it was all right with the ranger my girlfriend and I were OK with letting the people stay. The ranger allowed it. I think those young people felt guilty for what they did. They thanked us profusely for letting them stay and gave us some apples. After dark everyone sat around the campfire and we entertained them with stories of our travels. As you said, sometimes it's all in how you handle the situation.

I rented a little cabin in a campground once! I never had such a negative experience, Dogs barking, kids screaming, people packed in tight, I thought this is Nature? This sucks, I felt like I was in the city and not a good section of the city either. Never did it again!
Please don't let that deter you. Every campground is different. Some are more "urban" and others are more remote. Unfortunately you can't tell until you visit.
I've been a tent camper for years. We were at a completely empty 40 site campground around a lake arriving a Tuesday. The next afternoon a camper shows up and pitched their tent "RIGHT NEXT TO US!" Unbelievable! There were 39 other sites to pick and they camped right next to us. Then they stayed up til 1am talking and laughing around their campfire. It was so inconsiderate. I hate camping around people and never camp on Friday or Saturday nights. They are the worst! Great channel guys!!!
That's so annoying. Especially because tent's aren't great sound proof. That was very inconsiderate. And we agree, camping or RVing Friday/Saturday is very different then Monday-Thursday! :-)

I once stayed in a rv park by newport harbor boy what beautiful views of the harbor and the bridge over the harbor. I never thought that this might be a good park for fisherman, about midnight two rvs pulled in on either side of us. apparently they knew each other and they hollered two each other over and around our trailer for 40 minutes while they set up. and yes fisherman get up around 4 am and holler back and forth between their trailers while there diesel pickups idle for another 40 minutes. I have learned my lesson about beautiful little harbors.

We always stay at state parks or private resort parks. There is a mom and pop park in Mississippi we stay. She allows people to lease spots, basically live there like a trailer park. We stay there one night only usually don't even unhook. Just plug in the electric 50amp. 2 years ago a shady looking guy that lived there was too interested in the contents in the bed of my truck. I asked him what he was doing and he started yelling at me. Not even sure what he said. About 3 years ago at a park in Florida a guy in a high end class A "borrowed" a water Y valve out of my hose box, the box I keep fresh water hoses. I saw him snooping around and then a few minutes later he was washing the front of his rig. Which is against the rules at that park. I checked my box and the Y valve and my sprayer were both missing. I asked him if he was using my stuff and he paused just long enough for it to get awkward. Then he laughed and said he had knocked on our door to asked if he could borrow it, which he didn't. I would hope that he was planning on returning it. He did and thanked me. I too have stepped in dog poop. We always pick up after ours. I have forgotten a bag before and marked her poop with a stick and go back and pick it up. Just a few months ago at a state park in Alabama a guy walking his dog which was as big as a pony let his dog poop right in the park road. I went out when I realized he wasn't picking it up and yelled at him. He just mumbled something back at me. Before I could get out to pick it up myself a car drove over it. Thanks for your vlog!

The worst jerk we’ve come across was a guy who was all set up in his spot when we parked in ours, and although I’m certain that he checked and saw his RV fit the spot, but when he was parking, he didn’t account for his slide outs, so their slide outs were fully hanging in our area. We reported this to the front office to deal with, but the guy was gone all day long, so our first day there, we were cramped and pissed off. When he finally came back and the ranger addressed the situation with him and told him he’d have to repark and allow for the slide outs within his space, he said, “Come on, dude! I’m all squared away here! Please tell me you’re not going to make me unhook and go thru all of that because of 3 feet!”. The Ranger responded, “Look, it’s your responsibility to make sure that your rig and all slideouts are fully within your allotted space. Now, you’ve already inconvenienced your neighbors enough today by being rude and inconsiderate, and I’m not arguing with you. Your options are either to unhook and reposition or unhook and leave. Your choice, and you’ve exactly 1 hour to make the adjustment, and I’ll be coming back to check, and if it’s not, I’m calling the police and they’ll arrest you like they did the last person who didn’t obey the rules of a State Park and impound your rig. The clock starts now.”. The guy repositioned, and although he never apologized, the rest of the time next to him, he was extremely pleasant and cordial.
Hopefully, the guy learned a good lesson from it that he needed to learn. Some folks just can’t say, “I’m sorry.”.🤷🏼♀️

sometimes arriving late or after dark can't be avoided, its probably not when they wanted to arrive either. Instead of getting angry hop over with your flash light and offer to give them a hand and suggest a quick set up so they can settle down and get some rest.
Robert Iams That’s true, and we are the first to offer to help out a neighbor set-up. We just ask them to be as quiet as possible so as to not wake up our baby during quiet hours. When we pull in late we wait until the next morning to set-up. But we agree. Long travel days are the worst!
When we arrive late, we pull in, plug in then dry camp until morning. No need to even disconnected unless the truck is in the street.
Now that is a great point. Should be one of the 10 commandments.

Thanks for reminding me of so many of the reasons I avoid RV campgrounds. You are not “enjoying nature” if you are staying in the middle of a town on wheels. I don’t see how that can be relaxing.
We've found a few campgrounds that are magical but some are parking lots. It's hit or miss. We enjoy the remote ones with established trees the best.
Not everyone RVs to enjoy nature. Some just enjoy experiencing new places.
Honestly, it wasn't the guys fault that they put him in that spot. I agree that when you went in you should have parked in the 50amp spot. The park is responsible for putting both of you in the position they did.
Yes! This was our 4th park since starting out. They definitely made a mistake and we learned a valuable lesson
My park is packed so tight, some slide outs are nearly touching eachother. I'm on the end, so I dont have a neighbor on that side, but there is a small patch of grass that is an unofficial dog poop area. There are area with bags provided, 20 yards away, but they can't be bothered and they don't pick it up. I ask the management if they can put a poop can and bags, since everyone uses it. They didn't so I bought a bucket and a poop scoop. That helped somewhat, but I stopped emptying the bucket. Not my job. I can't open a window on that side, so I am going to take away the bucket and let poop fill the area. The maintenance guys have to mow there. They will have to clean it , walk in shit, or provide bags. Everyone knows that is the one major responsiblity of dog ownership. AND when I moved in the rule was no dogs over 30 lbs (mine is twenty) but the place is now full of viscious pit bulls and other large dogs. I dont feel safe walking around the park,so In have to drive somewhere just so my dog can pee. Its does piss me off, but its the way it is, and nothing will be done. I pay over 1k a month. Thanks for letting me vent. It help keep resentments down.
Great points! We’ve been lucky enough to have not experienced any “jerks” . Kindness and treating others as you would like to be treated go a long way. We’re all camping to enjoy the outdoors, meet new people and relax. And you’re right you never know what has transpired in the time leading up to someone who has a “lack in judgement “ moment. Apologies and a handshake can diffuse a bad introduction.

Number 3 is a particular pet peeve for me. Here in the part of NY state I'm in, quiet time isn't until 11pm. It's crazy! Everyone knows people push it for at least an additional 30 minutes. What's wrong with the standard 10pm?

"Good fences make great neighbors." Robert Frost. I saw the post about orange safety cones and it reminded me of something I saw a lot of in European rv parks. People love to put out the tiny 8"-12" tall lightweight plastic white picket fencing along the edge of their space. Its attractive and friendly looking while at the same time marking out the boundary of your space. I like to keep the orange cones as a warning to stay away from something that is a potential hazard. As to noisy stereo and tv, if I ever get an rv that has tv or stereo, I plan to invest in wireless headphones so I can listen as loud as I want/need (lets face it, our hearing tends to get worse as we get older) without bothering the neighbors.

I was in a truck stop refueling no other trucks on the other pumps. One thirty in the morning. A driver comes in and pulls up to the pump I used and pulled up to the yellow line to pay out and do my log book. He has a truck that you have to pull past the pumps and add fuel from the back of your sleeper. So he didn’t have enough room to pull past the pump. Now I am at the point where I was supposed to be after fueling. He comes up with his tire checker w/metal on the one end and hits my brand new 379 long nose peterbuilt . I opened my door and he yells. Pull up blanked blank. I come out of my truck with a payback on my mind God forgive me and being a flat bedder grab my brake bar which is all metal and a whole lot heavier than his tire checker. He takes off running around his truck as I try to catch him and he runs in the truck stop. The truck stop calls the sheriffs office and in five minutes after I was in my truck waiting for the tire checker to come out and get his insurance information to have my door repainted. The sherif asked what’s my problem. I show him what the driver did to my truck and showed him I was a foot over the line where I am supposed to be doing my log book when this crazy driver comes in with all the empty pumps and starts beating on my door calling me dirty words. So I get my bar Incase he wants to hit me with his tire knocker. Just to get his attention and he runs inside. The sharp edge of his tire metal checker chipped four big gashes in my brand new truck door. The sherif went in and the driver still had his tire checker in his hand and the sherif made him come out and give me his insurance information and arrested him for assaulting me by hitting my truck door damaging it. He made a bad choice for sure calling The sheriffs office. I am grateful I didn’t catch up to him before he got to the truck stop cashier.

Happy to have found this channel. I'm helping my elder mom set up her 5th wheel for the season, it is year round at a private site for many years. I was surprised at how from inside her trailer she has to close the windows because the unit is starting to smell like the cigarette smoke of her new neighbors. The quit hours are not enforced and there are three different types of music being heard. On weekends in the summer people act as if they are at a party, drunken/swearing on the street/river, transport bus. I no longer consider it relaxing to even visit her there and for the first time she has mentioned moving to another location or selling her 5th wheel...because of the people. Noise that goes outside of your space be it camping, sticks/bricks, vehicle/car/motorcycle is just inconsiderate. Etiquette needs to be addressed more often.

This is probably the best advice for most of You! Not trying to be mean, but some of you sound like an "older" age group perhaps and enjoy the quiet more. I like going to campgrounds where people are having a good time! I've met alot of fun people and have ended up doing alot of fun activities away from our campsites with them and their families on our camping vac! You guys need to remember, at alot of these camp grounds, it's people on THEIR vacation! Not full timers! We are looking to get away from our busy lives and have a good time! Also, don't camp at vacation spots!? Remember, you chose this life style! You chose to live in what the vast majority use to take vacations with! I agree with most of your Jerk points! But you just have to realize where your at and understand it comes with it!
I also hate it when I go to an empty restaurant and the only other people that come in have to sit right next to you being loud. And who thinks it is ok to start blowing your nose at the table go to the restroom to do that. I carry fart spray now if they blow i blow. lol

Over Thanksgiving we had made reservations for 3 nights at a nearby lake's campgrounds. We made the reservations in July had no clue in July it was going to be raining for most of that weekend in November. So we went ahead and kept our reservation and got rained on the entire weekend. Those are the days you need the TV in the RV, we couldn't really go for walks or sit outside the wind was blowing the awning bad and had to retract it. Played cards with my wife for a while listened to some music, read a book, still glad we had some movies to enjoy.
You bring up a good point. A lot of people think they'll be outside all the time when RVing. There are plenty of times that weather forces you to be inside. When that happens, comfort is really important!
The lots are just toooo tight. Same issues for stick/brick houses. When you make developments with .10 acre

So true about poops - I even had to repeat to my husbands father to get it picked up whenever he has his dog over on lawn, we have had neighbors kids & runners running by the grass, they won’t see poop there plus it can hurt the lawn! It’s all common knowledge no brainer to do this if using other persons property. For speeding, not only for reason of toddlers and children, it also applies to deaf people and handicap who can’t just jump out of the way in a whim and all campgrounds don’t have sign that tells walkers to stay on its side, it’s not a public road for crying out loud! All campers are so close to the road, all roads there shud be considered as private land to walk thru, it’s not designed for nascar or for multiple cars! Very smart to warn others by throwing a soft ball across to alert them! They need to wake up! I high five u for that!

Nice list of Jerk offenses. I think one of the keys is after you have driven all day, you are tired, just know that you might not be sunshine to the campground staffs and neighbors. Just setup and relax and enjoy the campground. We often are our jerkiness mostly in the evening and we are tired. Resting and a cup of coffee in the morning will bring perspective.

@@RVOddCouple Yes some are better then others. I have a camper and have been in parks before. I am sure if like me, most of the parks were just a place to stay near by for day trips. I camped in a resort park where a lot owner did not like that the office rented a spot to me. My camper was not as new or expensive as his. I am sure it met the requirements of the resort. The RV next to me I am sure was older then mine. Also a few spot down a Pop up. On the way to the park I saw a camp ground right on the water in the sand. I am sure I would have been much happier there then on my concrete slab with a old snob.

The best thing you can get or do at campgrounds is friendliness. It can make all the difference. An iffy all-gravel park we stayed at in the middle of a big city turned out to be a great experience because of the nice people.

Great video!! A must learn code of ethics for RVers. Mine is having to listen to loud arguments and fights between the RV owners who either don't know or care that everyone can hear them. Number 1 tho is forced ear kidnapping by loud music or TV. Loud enough that 20 others can hear you, it's too loud!
LOL 😂People don't realize that when they fight in an RV the whole park can hear it!

A to Zufelt once I know their setting up I will go out, tell them the babies sleeping and offer my help.
Was at site and decided to was the camper. So I took out the bucket and brush on a pole and wash it just before dinner.
Completed job and put stuff by the water hookup to wash out later. Never did. Next morning I wake up to see our neighbor washing his camper with my stuff. My hose as well.
I Didnt say anything right then. He put stuff back.
Later on I said, “ if you need my barbecue let me know, it needs fuel!”
He got the message. I think.
Yikes. How Rude! 99% of the time it's not a big deal if you just ask, but assuming is rude! Lets hope he got the message!
All great points. My two are 1. Why does no one clean up after their dog in the doggie run!!!?! I don't even use them anymore because it's one big toilet 😱
2. Running the diesel a half hour before you are even ready to hook up. Seriously, we have an old diesel and understand that it needs to be warmed up but puhleeeese get everything else done. Then fire up the old girl just before hook up. She will have plenty of time to idle while adjusting the hitch, checking the lights and removing the chocks.
We should add these two to the list. And in most cases the doggie runs have bags so there's no excuse! :)
Some people go camping (like myself) to get away from all of the city noise and people. I'm out there to just relax and to decompress. Others see a camping trip like an opportunity to get a big group together to have a good time eating, drinking, and singing. Many years ago while tent camping in a fairly remote area we had a group of young guys around a campfire drunk and making a ton of noise until about 3 am. No campground host or other people. So my girlfriend and I had to just sit inside our tent and deal with the situation. Finally got some sleep but it ruined our entire trip. Problem is the more secluded one is the more vulnerable you are to being helpless if a jerk arrives and wants to mess with you :(
You bring up a great point. Not everyone desires the same thing. RV parks are weird. It's like Camping in set plots of land. There's a spectrum where some people like to be isolated and others like to be more social. I think were moving closer and closer to the isolated line. :-)

As a potential future RVer I'm starting to realize why a lot of RVers like to "boondock" out in the woods by themselves! As an ex-tent camper in my youth I've experienced a lot of "camping jerks" and they're always in plentiful supply!

great video. I agree of with all of it. My beef is when people have dogs on long retractable leashes. Most parks specify 6ft and often these dogs will have enough line to cross into our space and freak out our properly restrained dog. And a dog off leash at anytime is not OK

Great topic guys! I don't think I'm a jerk (too) often, but when I am, I'm really good at it!
I like it when neighbors are friendly and welcoming, but one small request that I have is to let your new incoming neighbor at least appear to be in need of help before you jump in and start hooking up their water and power etc.
I lost my cool a couple of months back when these extremely nice (sincerely helpful) neighbors jumped right in and started making rv connections... literally. We'd hardly said hello. I'm probably a little (or a lot) too particular (a.k.a. anal) when it comes to set up. And I know they absolutely meant well, but I hadn't even checked to see how close to level I was. Needless to say I ended up losing my cool just a little bit - rude nonetheless- and became only the slightest bit snarky :) and they very politely backed off (whoa Nelly).
So then 10 minutes later - after I cooled off - I marched my embarrassed backside over to their coach, knocked on their and apologized profusely! (My momma taught me to be respectful and apologize when warranted! )
So... moral of the story... I know I was a big fat jerk as they say, but hey... they helped me find my inner jerk really easily! In the end we had a great stay next to them and visited with them several times over the course of the week!

I used to get off work at 6PM and home by 6:30 PM. After driving three hours to a decent campsite it would be 9 PM or later. Stealth setup isn't a problem since we upgraded from the popup. I hand crank my stabilizers as the electric motors are noisy. The slideout motor is not an option due to Forest River making it necessary to hand crank the slideout using a socket wrench while lying under the camper. Love the videos!!!
Thank you Bob814u! Things like hand cranking stabilizers are a huge display of courtesy and kindness. We know that late set-ups sometimes can't be avoided. No one says, "Hey let's set up in the dark!- Sounds like fun" But people like you who show common-sense neighborliness, are what it's all about! And we agree, Forest River makes a great product! Thanks again!

I remember my first RV campsite fight and it was a doozy. My wife and I were out for a walk with our 2 dogs (both on leashes). One was an 85 lb. Choc. Lab and the other was a 115 lb.Boxer (yes, he was HUGE for a Boxer). There were many people camping with their pets and all were obeying the camp rules by having their pets on leashes...except for one. There was a group camped with their 2 dogs and the dogs were not confined or on leashes...and they attacked our dogs. I am not going to hold restrict my dogs from being able to defend themselves in a fight so we released the leashes do they could defend themselves. To make a long story short, our Boxer, with a little help from the Lab., made short work of the altercation. It lasted less than 1 minute and the end result was one dead dog and one injured. Both were the dogs from the irresponsible campers. Ours were unharmed. And when it was over, they wanted US to pay for their dead dog and their vet bill? Thanks to numerous witnesses, the irresponsible campers were forced to leave the area and banned from that park. Not only that, my Boxer literally became the park hero. Everyone in the park ended up coming to our campsite to see him first hand and he dearly loved the attention. Damn, I miss that old boy. We head to put him down last year (13 yr. old).

@@RVOddCouple You have no idea. The Lab. was beautiful, just like most Chocolate Labs are (We had to put him down 3 yrs. ago), but the Boxer was super special. I am 6'1" and did not have to bend over at all to pet him. He could lay his head on the dining room table. He was white with large fawn spots, one blue eye, and as I said, weighed in at 115 lbs. And yes, he was a registered Boxer. Many mistakenly thought he was an American Bulldog due to his size and coloration. His mamma could almost walk under him. He was people and animal friendly unless I or he was attacked. Then all hell was going to break loose.
Nice video! We've been camping / RV-n for 40+ years (not full timers) and you've hit most of the major items that set me off. For me it appears common sense & civility to be getting worse rather than better. Until the past few years we never made reservations anywhere and never had an issue getting a spot. Campers appeared to be a courteous group of adventurers. Many more people out there now and maybe thats what leads to so many more issues and lack of common sense (?). When we were in a remote State CG off the beaten path, we had a very large loop of spots all to ourselves. Then at ~2:00 a.m. two mini vans with a total of 4 adults & 5 very young kids show up. Out of the 40-50 empty sites they elect to take the ones next to us; remember we are the only ones in the loop. leaving headlights and engines on they proceed to set up tents and dining flies. They talked to each other in rather loud voices as well while setting up. Kids are cranky & some crying. The capper came when they opened and closed their sliding minivan doors for about the 100th time. I finally opened our window and reminded them that it was now 2:20 a.m. and asked how many times do you need to open and slam a door in the middle of the night? They did move the next day thank goodness. And BTW... do you really need an outdoor 40-50" TV with surround sound when you're out in some of these tighter spaces like some Motorhomes are using?
Wow! 40 years rving? You must have some incredible stories. Please don't hesitate to relay some of your experience in the comments. We've had to learn a ton of things the hard way! Your experience sounds similar to ours. There was literally 15 spaces open in our situation. But There's always that 1 person. And you bring up a great point regarding the outdoor tv. But I'm not sure we would have handled a 2 am wake up call as kindly as you did. Everyone has a breaking point. It sounds to us that you were very kind with them! Thanks for watching!

We stayed at a provincial park once with no hookups and this one guy a few sites over had a really noisy construction generator running all day long! You had to yell to have a conversation outside, it was awful. We would just go out for the day after that to get away from it. At least he shut it down in the evening.
Yes #3 is my biggest pet pea with RVing and it's mostly with what I call the weekend warriors. These people that buys a new rig that isn't really built for camping it's a 4 or 5 TV stand built to look like a RV and almost all the new RVs are built this way.They set up and first thing they do is crank up there TV or music so everybody at the camp ground knows they're there.
Some of these new RV's come with more tv's than places to sleep. 😂
I just started watching your videos literally 2 days ago and I can't get enough of the 3 of you guys or excuse me you guy and ladies. I love watching you. You are so down to earth and I love how you just come right out with the truth about things. My husband and I have both retired now and we have been wanting to start Rving. We thought about selling our property but thought twice about that so we will have a homebase. We live in Charleston, S.C. and love it here but we want to see the world while we can. Wow. How true. Was staying in a first come first serve city park campground last fall in the mountains of Virginia. There were plenty of empty spots but this one happy new class A owner was not happy with what was available. I told him there was a 50 amp hook up on our pedestal and helped him park his newly acquired Class A diesel. My wife and I are very quiet at night and in the mornings. After a nice talk with these folks who offered nothing to us as they grilled steaks and had music blaring they decided to leave out early in the morning. 7 am start up to get the air going. Then a shut down. Then beating and banging to take trash to the curbside pick-up. Then another start up to get ready to pull out. Glad they left. We stayed 3 more nights without intrusion. Worst thing is helping another camper just to be annoyed at them in the end and glad they are gone. Respect folks. That's all we ask. I'm glad you wanted to leave early. But your sunrise start up to build air pressure was a bit annoying considering you were three feet from me sharing a pedestal. Safe travels "Odd Couple." Y'all are awesome.. Share weather info with the 5 person tent campers. Be quiet. We are in the woods for the peace and quiet. Your Cummins start up at sunrise was not only shocking. It was down right disrespectful. Glad you left.
Number 6 (getting in late or leaving early) isn't always under your control. But if you do show up late (or have to leave early) you should try to be as quiet as you can.
You are 100% right. Most people don't choose to set up in the dark. But like you said, we should try to be as quiet as possible. No yelling "back back, stop, to the left" :-)
I agree I work at a campground and people come in off the road very late sometimes and also leave early. As long as they are quiet and considerate this should be fine. And in a lot of sites it's impossible to stay hooked up and be anywhere near level. They paid for their site also. Being understanding and considerate goes a long way.
When we had to arrive late for whatever reason, we would drive straight into a site, not back in, and shut off the engine immediately. If not level, we will shut off the fridge. Do all the backing in and hooking up in the morning. I have had people thank me for it.
Every single one of these reasons are why I backpack.
