Yea the computer on the Enterprise is pretty much Siri. Siri, tell me where Commander Data is. Siri, what time is it? Siri, do these pants make my butt look to big?
Anybody else cry when in the end when data was destroyed riker was explaining this moment how the first time he met data he was whistling some tune but he just couldn't get it right? I sobbed damn that was sad
When I got into the car... and shut the door. The death of Data reminded me of the story of Optimus Prime. Both died on the big screen. Kids were comming out of the theater in tripple tears. Animators concerned about this eventually patched the end of the Transformers movie - eventually promising that he would return. And he did. In much the same way, the download to B4 was completed before he died. It opened quite a few doors - suggesting that with enough time, it could "evolve" back into Data. Two great characters with great legacies... Sadness... Story Arch... And all.
To be fair, "Datalore" hadn't been written yet, and Data was very early in development. They tried distancing both characters later on, and cover themselves with the episode "Brothers", where Soong says the main difference is "a bit of programming". Lore was already malfunctioning, working with the Crystalline Entity...but his theft of Data's emotion chip turned him fully insane. In the end, Lore was dismantled permanently...and probably destroyed when the Enterprise-D crashed on Veridian III in "Generations".
My theory is Data spoke and interacted rather candidly early on in the seasons and later became reprogrammed slightly after the incident with lore. Data always reminded me of Bishop from Aliens
@Robb Dark Riker didn't actually meet data then , he was just giving him orders, As Riker had to do a manual saucer docking procedure ordered by picard when riker first came aboard the enterprise . this was the actual first meeting and conversation
Is that a half smile on Data's face when he's marvelling at how easily humans whistle, he sounds a little envious. Where they still working on the character in the first season?
Roddenberry envisioned Data as a blank slate from the very start, eager to become more human but not knowing how. By the end, he wanted Data to be as close to human as possible, while still not. For the most part, that's exactly what Berman and the rest did after Gene's death.
love how sassy data is all the time, in season 2 with 'one is my name. the other is not.' and here with 'prejudice is very human.' i just love how he does that all the time
He doesn't have feelings and is very truth-based, so he says things as he sees them, rather than trying to protect feelings or save face. It's how more people should be: honest.
@@O1OO1O1 Of course it's good not to lie in most cases especially when it's about saving your own face. But the problem is, unlike Data, humans do have feelings and sometimes it is necessary to protect the feelings of your counterpart, also by not telling (parts of) the truth.
When I think about the time I first met a good friend of mine who passed away, I think of this scene too with riker and data and how riker recalled this moment after data died. I met my friend Mike on a little wooden bridge over a small stream of water, in a small wooded area. Very similar to this scene. Mike was a good and interesting companion for the next three years.
First, I love this story. I hope you are still strong, and understand that your friend is in a better place. Second, Just a heads up, it might be a good idea to give a spoiler warning. I kinda got spoiled. Anyway, thank you for sharing. And again, I hope you're alright my good man.
That's Evelyn Guerrero. Many remember her from playing Donna on several Cheech and Chong movies She did at least one spread for Playboy and it was awesome.
People have said that Data seems more emotional in season 1. I think he's using a sub-routine to approximate emotions. Sometime between season 1 and 2, he realised that he comes across as a bit smug and creepy so he deleted the sub-routine and became the data we know and love.
It's really interesting to see the growth of Data, all the characters actually throughout the series. I can't wait for the new Star Trek series to start.
Alone in the holodeck, simulating a nice forest and mindlessly whistling... Is it just me or Data's first appearance is not exactly what you would expect after knowing the character and rewatching his first scene again?
Absolutely! He was gorgeous and a fox!! You should see him in pictures of him when he's younger and himself out of his Data makeup, he's Absolutely gorgeous sexy as far as I'm concerned!! Just a beautiful creature!!❤💋 WE LOVE YOU BRENT SPINER!!
He's dead: in the final episode from TNG, Picard alterate the timeline making that this possible future (Deanna dead, Riker and Worf hating each other and Bervely as his ex-wife) never going to happen.
Data dying was the point of Nemesis. The four TNG movies are really about his character arc - getting his emotion chip is Generations, seduced in first Contact, rebelling Insurrection, and then finally, in one last, culminating, human act, giving his life to save his friends.
Who after watching that wants a "holodeck" of their own. I would be on the ship for the sole purpose of eating in Paris, surfing, ect. Without EVER leaving the ship!!!🚀🚀🚀👍🏻😜😝📈
I'd probably use a holodeck much like Worf did: A place to vent and exercise without fear of breaking anything AND with built in sparring partners. That'd be SWEET.

A post-feminist era.

Ensign Babyface, to be exact.

Smooth as an android's bottom.

I'd need a personal holodeck in my quarters.
I love how they referenced this scene at the end of "Nemesis", Riker sadly recalling he couldn't remember the song Data tried to mimic.

A season one SNAFU, Data smiling pre emotion chip. Very un-cannon when compared to S2 > S7.

Lore sounds like Data.
Riker mentioned this scene in Star Trek: Nemesis.

That’s what brought me here. He mentioned it at Data wake after sacrificing himself
But he couldn't remember the tune Data was trying to whistle.

@@O1OO1O1 Yeah, but too much honesty isn't always good. Data's straightforwardness often comes across as awkward or shocking to others.
Really now, Riker? You looked up his record, and completely missed the part where it would have listed Data as an Academy graduate?
He skimmed it, he has ladies to woo.
He might consider it an honorary gesture even to allow a robot to go through the Academy.
The writing in season 1 wasn't one of Star Trek's best moments. Too many comical tones and loose ends.
